Walleye with "frings" (French fries and onion rings)!

I'd been craving good walleye since moving back to the area after 17 years in Oklahoma where they've never heard of it. Boy did I come to the right place! Hadn't been here in decades and the exterior is still misleading for what's inside! Great service, excellent food, clean, classy atmosphere. So happy to have such a rare gem of a restaurant on the east side of Springfield. Will definitely be back! That lunch buffet looked amazing!

My fiancé and I stopped on by Mario's to use the 217 Gift Certificate I won and because we both love Italian! This was out first time here and I was shocked at how large the inside was; could easily host a 50 person party here. Our server was extremely pleasant, even with the time of our arrival near the latter part of her shift and on a slow, rain soaked Saturday. On to the food and why I am at 3*, closer to 3.5...I ordered a medium pizza, she ordered the lasagna with side salad. I am typically the one who is more critical when evaluating but shockingly tonight it was all her. She did not like the salad at all and thought it had an unclean/chemical taste and the lasagna was okay but nothing to brag about. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I loved my pizza; double olives, green peppers, pepperoni and their version of Italian sausage. I had plenty for leftovers, they were heavy on toppings and per usual, no cheese for me and the chef nailed it correctly! Overall, your average Italian/sports bar style pizza place and right off of I55.

    Meat lovers.

Had the pizza and OMG so good! We tried to finish it but nope - lunch tomorrow Very nice staff Size inside is deceiving- super big

Despite having "pizza" in its name the pies at Mario's aren't anything special.

Stepping into Mario's is like going back in time 40-50 years. Wood-paneled walls, indoor/outdoor carpet and tile floors, Naugahyde booths, wood high top bar tables, disco music, and Tombstone Pizza--the kind served in taverns where food is an afterthought to drink. If Mario's intended to create a retro attitude that would be one thing. The feeling, though, is that it just got stuck in the 70s. For a place that has pizza in its name I expected better. The thin crust pizza was no better than supermarket frozen food quality. I arrived to find a well stocked lunch buffet: three greens salads, a couple of pasta salads and soups, build your own nachos, 2 spaghetti options, garlic bread, and 4-5 pizzas besides other items. Nothing stood out and all I tried tasted like not much care had been given to the preparation. A Caesar salad had way too much dressing, tortellini soup was over seasoned with pepper, tortilla chips were fresh from the grocer's shelf. The list goes on like that. Mario's, however, did provide good service and kept the steady blue collar crowd and golfers from across the street happy.

Incredible. Simply incredible. Super friendly and attentive staff. Very relaxed and cozy…read moreatmosphere. And the food? So, freaking, good. Our party enjoyed the spaghetti with meatballs and pizza. Everything tasted amazing and fresh. The desserts were incredible, especially the tiramisu. While parking can be a hassle depending on when you go, it is well worth it. Cannot stop thinking about the food since we left and am very excited to come back soon.

Ok so, it's hard to know where to start with this place! We were greeted by a nicer middle aged man…read morethat was so helpful. He explained the menu and made some awesome suggestions. The ambiance was welcoming and made you feel like you were definitely in an Italian restaurant. It was a little loud but not to a point where it was unbearable. We started with some Itialian lemon tea and peach tea that were unbelievably tasteful. We also had to try the black cherry cane soda that was so flavorful. NEW YEARS SALAD was so good and everything in the salad seemed to be of high quality. I wish there was a little more dressing but overall the amount of dressing would prob be great for the normal person. I ordered the FUSILLI AL PESTO and it was so good. I added shrimp to it and it went well with the flavor. The bread they bring out was so soft and delicious. We could have eaten another loaf. We also ordered the pizza and it was so good. The kids ate the whole pizza and said we have to come back here again. I have to say the pizza was not like any other pizza in town. The parking can be a bit tough but absolutely worth trying to find a spot.

Let me just start with Kimberly! She is an amazing bartender, and server who was very attentive…read more She was also very, very polite! Always a plus. The place isn't much inside, but it isn't bad either. Plenty of room for partys, and you won't feel crowded at all. OK, the food. I had a side Caesar salad which was delicious! Then came the pizza. I ordered a small chicago deep dish with meatball, and green peppers. I only got through two pieces, but it was pretty good. My only issue is that there was not nearly enough meat in my pizza, but plenty of green peppers. I would suggest meat choices only to go with the tons of cheese, and sauce. I'll still be going back when I'm in the mood, because even though it isn't Lou's, or Giordano's, it's pretty scrumptious.

July 25th 2026 **Very Disappointing Experience at Nancy's…read morePizza in Springfield** I normally don't take the time to write negative reviews, but our experience with Nancy's Pizza in Springfield was extremely disappointing. We had just got done traveling a **12-hour drive day**. We stopped because we simply wanted to grab a pizza, after a long and tiring day with 2 very hungry kiddos. Unfortunately, we were given the **wrong pizza**. We didn't realize it was the wrong pizza until after we had already eaten a piece. Once we discovered the mistake, we contacted the restaurant expecting a simple solution. Kids only wanted cheese not a meat pizza., Instead, we were told that we had to **drive all the way back to the restaurant (15 minute trip 1 way) and return the pizza we had already taken home and started eating** before they would give us the correct pizza. We made the trip back, returned the pizza, and then had to wait for and pick up the replacement. What made this even more frustrating was the complete lack of concern for the situation. We tried calling and reaching out, and we didn't feel like anyone was taking responsibility for the inconvenience. We explained my mom took a piece, and kids won't eat cheese and two hungry kids, yet there was very little effort to make the situation right in a reasonable way. They eventually offered us a **free pizza for another visit**, but we don't live in the area, so that really wasn't helpful. We didn't want a free pizza another time -- **we simply wanted the pizza we had ordered that day.** there was no compensation for thier mistake, no concern for our drive back (15 minutes each way) There is also a food-safety concern with being instructed to bring back food that had already been delivered to and handled by a customer. Illinois has adopted the FDA Food Code, and Section 3-306.14 addresses returned food and states that food that has been served or sold and has been in the possession of a consumer generally cannot be offered again for human consumption. Illinois inspection guidance also specifically lists the proper disposition of returned, previously served, reconditioned and unsafe food as a food-safety requirement. ([Illinois Department of Public Health][1]) That makes it especially concerning that we were specifically instructed to bring back a pizza that had already been taken home and eaten from. Mistakes happen. We completely understand that. **What matters is how a business handles the mistake.** In our case, we were inconvenienced multiple times, had to make an unnecessary trip back, had hungry children waiting, and felt like our situation simply wasn't important to the staff. They should have given compensation for all the drive back and fourth! For us, this wasn't about getting something free. It was about receiving the correct order and having the restaurant take responsibility for its mistake. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we would not return to Nancy's Pizza Springfield.
