Great pizza. One of the top pies in Springfield. I am partial to their sauce and the crust is always crispy and easy to chew.

Place is always a great idea for good pizza. It might be difficult to get thru the phone lines, because it is always busy, but definitely worth it. It is carry out only and they will gladly walk it out to your car when you show up. The pizza crust has a "soda pop" flavor to it that I do adore. I always get mine well done and it is perfect! Our patient was craving pizza and really loves Joe's pizza, so we did curbside pickup on our way back to the hospital. When I was there a couple months back they were only offering curbside pickup from 4-9 Thursday-Sunday. We ordered a large with sausage, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. They still serve their to-go pizzas in a paper bag instead of a box. There are only a few places left in SPI that still do this. Sure makes clean up easier! My family has been customers of Joe's for 15+ years. It's always been a family favorite, but over the years their recipe has changed. The crust and layer of cheese are both thinner. I also think they use less toppings. Although, it is still good, it's definitely not the same as it was when they won our hearts and stomachs over years ago. I will note I don't think their prices have increased in years (at least not significantly) so they may have made other changes to keep up with inflation. All I can say is WOW horrific customer service. That old woman will run that business down to the ground. I order there every couple of weeks and today when I was trying to order it was continuously busy and then it said I was blocked. That's weird so I had my boyfriend try and he got the busy line non stop but no message saying he was blocked. So, he went to the store and tried to just order a Togo since he couldn't get through to anyone and the young kid took the order and said it was going to be an hour. I showed up an hour later to pick up the pizza and the old woman came out and said she didn't have the pizza that he placed because they don't do that it was only curbside ordering and we needed to call the number. I then explained that I couldn't get through to order and he tried but mine said it was blocked and then she had the AUdacity to say that they blocked me for a reason either I didn't pick up a pizza or someone was being an idiot. She had no clue why I was blocked, called me an idiot indirectly, did not care to resolve any issue and didn't know of an issue. I would say that if she was smart that she would have a separate line for people to call orders in and then have a separate line for people to call to pick up the pizzas curbside so that people can get through the lines without continually being busy and if she was smart she would not assume and she would know why someone was blocked if someone went to the extent of blocking someone. I am so appalled by her, such an awful person. I will let everyone know about this experience. I have never felt so attacked by nothing that was done wrong. read more

I cannot rate the pizza because I never got the pizza. I didn't even get to order. It's a Friday evening, a busy time for any pizza joint. I call and I get a busy signal. I call 12 more times over the course of 15-20 minutes and keep getting a busy signal. "OK," I thought, "I'll drive over there and give my order in person." It's still curbside service only, and in a cruel twist, it says "call when you arrive" or something like that. I tried. Busy ... again. A woman came out and I said "Ma'am, I think your phone might be off the hook." She said, "No, we're busy" without stopping for me to ask how long the wait may be or if I could place an order with her. I mean, I drove there to make this effort. Clearly I want to try your pizza. The next time she came out, I did ask about placing an order and she said I'd need to call. Then I asked if she knew an estimate on a wait. "No, I don't" then walked inside. So, I decided to do what anyone in this town does when they want good pizza, I called Gabatoni's. Guess what? They answered my first call. read more

This is an interesting review because my rating started out very high. When we arrived the service started out great and my side salad was delicious. As we waited for the main meal I need to mention there was not an open table in the place and only one waitress (always a bad sign)...as we had to walk up to the main counter to get refills. Again, this is not the end all to how I rate a restaurant, I understand being busy and short staffed, but more times than not this becomes a precursor to a bad experience. My fiancee ordered the Alfredo as her main dish and was overly pleased but the order of garlic bread she said was average as it was over buttered and under toasted. At this point though, I am still hoping to salvage the experience with the pride and joy of Joe's; the pizza! Unfortunately, the pizza was bland, undercooked on the bread, too few toppings and a general taste of forgetfulness. I obviously understand that because I order all my foods without cheese/dairy that certain meals require a bit of help from who I am eating with to be fair in my ratings. We ordered half the pizza with cheese and my fiancee said the exact same thing (cheese doesn't make the pizza in my opinion, although it can enhance), more accurately I believe solid sauce with fresh toppings and perfectly cooked crust is enough to spark a high review for any pizza; Joe's simply came up way short for both of us. read more

I have traveled the country for many years and in all that time, I've never forgot my home favorite of Joe's Pizza!! I've eaten there for 30 years and I can't ever remember coming in when there wasn't a wait out the door! I came in on a Saturday at 6:30pm and they had maybe three tables occupied. The salads were nothing but iceberg lettuce and two slices of tomato. The pizza sauce has lost its garlic flavor, the sauce does not reach the crust, the cheese is thinner, and there was maybe ten pieces of sausage and pepperoni across the whole pizza. Years ago, the sausage was thick! Even their crust seems drier and less flavorful. We called and the lady said without any concern, very matter of fact, "the pizza hasn't changed." I explained the Internet reviews disagree. Then we told her that maybe a little empathy would help, she blew us off. Never again! The pizza is very good. Their customer service is lacking. They are abrupt and cranky. I do have to say they are enforcing COVID-19 procedures and they bring the pizza to your car, curbside only. Their sign in the window says: REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE. No please. No thank you. And that's kind of how they are, just not friendly, on the verge of rude. Hadn't eaten at Joe's in years because I did so when I worked evenings downtown. The inside has been updated and looks great. The food was ordered to go and as good as ever, I ordered 2 baked mostaccioli with meat sauce, 2 side salads, garlic bread and 2 brownies. Portion size was perfect, cheese was browned just right, salad crisp and oh the brownie, wish now I had purchased 4 instead of 2. Worst pizza I've ever had. I believe it is a frozen pizza heated up. Cheese had a very strange flavor and texture.

Joe's pizza is great, the girl that is always the server is also great, she has a lot of patience, especially dealing with mr. grumpy cat cashier dude (guy with bieber hair). Pizza is amazing, meat sauce for spaghetti, wow.. so good, heck, even the water is good. After carefully tasting the cheese on the pizza, I concluded that they're using a mixture of fresh and hard mozzarella. That thing is just too good.. maybe some provolone in there. Head over to Gabitonis. you'll thank me, You can get in to Joes?? Sit down and get ready. Let me lay it out for you. This place is bare bones. One TV in the corner and theres probably a Cub game on. No booze. Let me repeat . No booze. This isnt about you and your cool friends having craft beers and cracking wise about the other customers. talking about all the fantastic stuff you do on a regular basis. Let that go. Stop being a tool and try to get your head around this pizza. Order a large thin crust. Thin is only available in large and thats what you want. thin. If you can't handle the fact that you may have to take some home then hit the salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays. Large thin , I recommend the Joes special. Because , well it is special. There is enough cheese on there for two pizzas and its hard to stop eating it. Hands down, the best pizza in town. Founded years ago by a charming Italian immigrant, and then loving tended for years by a wonderful couple who took over when the original owner returned to Italy. The couple retired, and turned Joe's over to the young man who had been manning the pizza oven for years and years. He has continued the tradition of authentic Italian pasta dishes and fantastic pizza. The crust is thin but not paper-thin, and a bit more doughy than cracker-crisp. It's kind of a nifty blend between crispy thin and doughy thick crusts. I also like that there is just a bit of sweetness to the dough. Fresh ingredients, and a lavish amount of cheese, all presented at a good price. Joe's is one of the best values in town, much appreciated by the family crowd. Dining in and you'll be met with a no-frills interior - it's about the food not the atmosphere! So why not 5 stars? It's the service. The attitude is predominantly indifferent; you'll rarely get a smile, a hello, or a thank you from anyone. The worst, though, is the wife of the new owner - surly and rude, this is not someone who should interact with customers in any fashion. I did not have the pizza. A friend had told me about the meatball sandwich. I have traveled a lot and am originally from Chicago. I have had some meatballs. I would give these 8.45-9.0. They were good . The decor is not much more than a snack bar. The price is the big news here. There is one place in town with meatballs that are a little better BUT at twice the price. We just went in on April 22nd, 2017. We also have been customers for over 30 years. Six of us came in for a sit down dinner. We ordered 2 large Cheese, Sausage, Mushroom pizzas. We were really disappointed how the pizza had changed. I had 4 slices, not one piece contained any sausage. The cheese was marginal. They used to load it up with cheese, mozarella,sausage and mushrooms. The only mushroom I saw was on my sisters piece. It was not crowded and there was hardly anyone in for pick up, like in the past. So we knew that were not super busy. I asked my father what he thought, who is 93 and he said...it's just not the same as it has been the last 30 years. We were all pretty disappointed. read more

It has become my quest to find the best pizza in Springfield. Joe's puts together a solid pie and probably has the best crust. It tastes fresh, is light, just the right balance of crisp and chewy and yeasty. The sauce was also good, but not as bright or tomatoey as Luca, which I like slightly better. Have never been so disappointed in pizza. Had heard quite a lot of good things about their pizza. They could not have been more wrong. You can definitely tell that they buy some crappy pizza crust instead of making their own. Flour, water, salt, yeast and oil are all very cheap ingredients. They would save money and have a better product if they would make the change to fresh dough. The sauce, cheese and toppings are all irrelevant if they are put on cardboard.
