Incredible. Simply incredible. Super friendly and attentive staff. Very relaxed and cozy atmosphere. And the food? So, freaking, good. Our party enjoyed the spaghetti with meatballs and pizza. Everything tasted amazing and fresh. The desserts were incredible, especially the tiramisu. While parking can be a hassle depending on when you go, it is well worth it. Ok so, it's hard to know where to start with this place! We were greeted by a nicer middle aged man that was so helpful. He explained the menu and made some awesome suggestions. The ambiance was welcoming and made you feel like you were definitely in an Italian restaurant. It was a little loud but not to a point where it was unbearable. We started with some Itialian lemon tea and peach tea that were unbelievably tasteful. We also had to try the black cherry cane soda that was so flavorful. NEW YEARS SALAD was so good and everything in the salad seemed to be of high quality. I wish there was a little more dressing but overall the amount of dressing would prob be great for the normal person. I ordered the FUSILLI AL PESTO and it was so good. I added shrimp to it and it went well with the flavor. The bread they bring out was so soft and delicious. We could have eaten another loaf. We also ordered the pizza and it was so good. The kids ate the whole pizza and said we have to come back here again. I have to say the pizza was not like any other pizza in town. Definitely worth a visit. After finishing my meal I was already thinking I can't wait to enjoy a meal here again. The guy who took my order and met me at the front seems to be the owner. He was super friendly and welcoming. You order at the counter, get a number and then they bring the food to your table. No frills which I appreciate. The pizza crust is nice and thin and crispy when it first comes out. And you can tell they know flavors. But honestly as other reviewers said, that berry salad is SPECIAL! We also shared a prosciutto and fig pizza which was full of toppings and had excellent flavors. Food = great Service = ok Ambiance = very nice. I wasn't a huge fan of ordering when you walk in, then go to your table (ok). The food, abd waiter service was good though. Ambiance was comfortable, not too loud, and it actually isn't a huge place upon first glance. But they have extra seating, including outside. The food... Delicious hot & crusty bread with mozzarella cheese! The oil for dipping was lightly spiced. The marinara sauce for dipping was hot & tasty. We shared a 16 inch pepperoni & ham pizza sitting at a table for 2 along the window. This allowed a close look at the passing people and the busy-ness of the street. The pizza was really good! One of the better choices downtown, and they have better weekend hours than other restaurants. Kind of minimalist service, you order in the front and then they bring the food out. Pizza and pasta are good, as others have noted the portion sizes are a little modest, but the prices are commensurate. And let me tell you that we got pizza, some of the best pizza that I've probably ever had. Loved the window seat right inside the door, it was big enough to store our stroller under and the candles on the tables were a nice touch. The service was quick and servers friendly, and the food was delicious. My only complaint is the cheese bites cost. They were $11.50 which is on par with the entrees and the entrees were bigger and more filling. That being said, the cheese bites were delicious and the dipping sauce was great! Love this restaurant. Great for a date night. The pizzas are delicious. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I practically eat an entire pizza myself. They have an artisan feel and some unique combinations. They also have a limited beer and wine selection- so you can enjoy a nice glass of red with your pizza. The dinner hours are currently primarily on the weekend. Wow! What a hidden gem! The lasagna here reminded me exactly of the one we had in Florence, Italy, 34 years ago, which is still my favorite to date! Very light, yet super flavorful & filling. The flavors blended together just beautifully. It literally melted in my mouth! I also had the side salad with olive oil as my dressing and they had a huge selection of really yummy olive oils to choose from! We also ordered the pepperoni & sausage pizza & that was so very good, too! The crust was very soft & so homemade tasting. Also, enjoyed a delicious decaf coffee! I was meeting friends here for dinner. We were asked to order before we were sat down and joined our party. I ordered the carbonara and side salad. I wanted blue cheese dressing for my salad and it wasn't a available and the young lady at the register recommended the house made Italian. After ordering we were directed to the restaurant recently opened private dining room which we were able to experience. It's cute but still a work in progress. The tin ceilings really fits in. The carbonara was really good and yolky with plenty of bacon with green onion for a pop of freshness. The pasta was toothsome and not mushy. The side salad wasn't stunning. It was just lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and red onion. And to my surprise a slice of avocado really didn't add anything. The Italian dressing was just okay. The price for the carbonara made this place a bargain, even if the portion was smaller than what I'm used too. It was filling but I still would have loved a slightly larger portion. Seems to be one of the few restaurants in downtown Springfield that opens for Sunday lunch lol? I ordered a Lasagna entrée and Arugula salad. The salad was May special. It's size was too small even if considering I ordered half. The lasagna was not bad, especially the meat sauce was quite rich and savory. Also it came with some fresh baked bread. There was not much service. You need to order at the counter. The restaurant was not very clean. I truly didn't know what to expect from La Piazza but I was impressed. I stumbled upon the restaurant when I was looking for a quick and affordable lunch. Luckily for me that La Piazza has a lunch special that allows you to pick two items for the cost of roughly $10. The inside of the restaurant was larger than expected. I sat on the smaller side which was the only side open at the time but they had a few tables. The restaurant was empty so I was able to order my food and get my food quickly. The employee at the counter was very friendly throughout my visit. He also was very nice when I realized I left my phone in the restaurant and came back to retrieve it. The food itself was delicious. I ordered the chicken fettuccine and a seasonal salad they offered. My order came with a piece of fresh bread and oil with parmesan shredded cheese. The pasta dish was tasty. You could tell they make their pasta fresh or get it from a traditional Italian pasta maker. The salad was fresh and a decent size. Overall, a bad experience with palatable food. What they got wrong: -the ordering process is like a fast-casual place, but with tipping -do we grab our own utensils? we still have no idea -they brought out bread as an appetizer. was it hotdog bread? -they brought out 2 of our ordered appetizers. smallest calamari order we've ever witnessed -they brought out 2 of the ordered dinners immediately thereafter -after some confusion by the clerk we were apparently charged for a different table -and they got our order wrong -20 minutes later after the first 2 dinners were delivered, the final 2 dinners were delivered The food was mostly delicious. The best part of my meal was using the spicy oil on my food. We tip 20%. But you make it really hard to tip, when we didn't put it on our card on the front end of the service, and have to wait behind 3 families ordering from the clerk to break up a large bill for tipping purposes. Rant: This is the type of experience that has helped solidify my newfound hatred for dining-out since covid-19 ended. Why can't I just sit down at a table, have a single point of contact with the restaurant (our waiter/waitress), whom is then responsible for our experience? We dined here this past weekend and oh my word - we will definitely be back. We live an hour away and would drive back just to eat here. The food is so fresh and flavorful. Very impressed with this local Italian spot in Springfield, IL. It definitely exceed my expectations. Several of my previously favored spots in town have experienced a decline serving frozen vegetables and boxed pastas so I wasn't expecting much. The food here was pretty exceptional. The only thing I didn't care for was the order at the counter system. Personally I think if you're spending a certain amount, the experience should be through a server. Everything we had though was fresh and homemade quality. The marinara sauce with the meatballs was a standout. I got the ravioli which was very delightful. This place has been consistently good since it opened. I haven't had anything I didn't like, my order is always correct and they are consistent. My favorites are the Margherita & Vesuvio pizzas but I recently had the Linguine Alfredo with chicken and it might be a new favorite! I think this is only place in Springfield that knows how to properly cook pasta al dente. The chicken was a good add on, but the star was the pasta and the sauce. Even my husband said he would order this without meat and that is seriously saying something. Also, I cannot say enough about how much I like the workers here. I can't remember his name, but the guy who's always at the counter is just the absolute friendliest person and he always seems so happy to be there. FOR VERY GOOD REASONS: It's within walking distance of The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, and just around the corner from the old Illinois Statehouse. The menu is extensive and prices are quite reasonable. In addition to indoor seating, La Piazza offers outdoor seating in very pleasant surroundings. The staff is friendly and attentive. First off, I was excited to run into this place, hungry, while walking though downtown Springfield, IL after perusing the farmer's market along Adams Sf and having a pretty tasty pale ale at Buzz Bomb Brewery. The entrance is inviting with Sicilian and Italian flags, as well as nicely cared for flower pots. Outdoor seating is available but it was 90 degrees out so no thanks. The inside is nothing special but comfortable with plenty of seating and some nice benches looking out the window into the street. The guy behind the counter taking my order was pleasant and it was nice to talk with him about the restaurant: they've been around four years, somehow survived government mandated lockdowns and the current American I don't want to work flu. The chef is apparently Sicilian, for what it's worth. The food: despite my having only order and app and salad, they brought me a small loaf of warm, soft and tasty bread with parm and red pepper flakes (in little plastic containers). The utensils are plastic, which is unfortunate for many reasons, not the least of which is that the fork broke under the weight of cutting my soft meatball (more on that in a moment). First the Caprese salad, which was delicious and more of an arugula salad (I love arugula) with cherry tomato halves and mozzarella balls. I admire them for not overdressing the salad with balsamic, which most seem to do but really could have used more tomatoes. For most it's all about the cheese and I suspect they would want more of it on this salad. The salad was not terribly flavorful but mostly because it was arugula dominated with tomatoes in relative short supply, a seemingly common problem in my experience. Meatballs were small and pretty good. I appreciate that they don't just offer giant balls of meat baked in the oven and missing any firmness whatsoever but these meatballs, smaller as they were, didn't stand up to cutting without crumbling. The sauce was nice and balanced though and the dish was served with crumbled ricotta, which was a nice touch. Next time, I'll try the pizza but was trying to eat light. The menus is enticing - could use more summer pasta dishes but that seems a common complaint. I had a nice local lager made by Anvil Forge called Keller Clown (don't know what it is with kids and morbidity these days), which was pretty tasty and refreshing. I'd go back but, based upon my experience this one time, would manage my expectations. read more

My first visit but not my last. I ordered a Margarita pizza to go. I was told it would be ready at 6:30 but didn't get it until 6:45. Not a huge issue except I was double parked. Unfortunately pizza was cold when I got it home just 10 minutes away. Taking that into consideration, the pizza itself had a great flavor. I found the crust very thin as a margarita pizza should be but I usually prefer it more crispy. This crust was flimsy and chewy. I probably could have given this review 3 but I am giving La Piazza the benefit of doubt and round up. The restaurant is unique and quaint. Desserts in the display case looked great and it appeared they had a good selection of wine. I'm willing to give them another chance, but I'll dine in next time and make my final judgement then. We went here because it was the highest rated pizza place in Springfield, and now I know why! It was also near our ghost tour start. WOW! I overheard the manager say the woman responsible for the food quality was from Sicily. Wow! So delicious! The boyfriend and I each ordered our own pizzas, I ordered the one with the pesto sauce, goat cheese, balsamic drizzle.... So good! This was a cozy local place that was perfect for a quiet date night feel. The pizza we ate was delicious - there were several more pizzas on their menu I want to return to try. And who doesn't enjoy tiramisu to finish up a lovely dinner. I would prefer ordering from the table instead of a counter before you are seated, and parking was not as convenient. It's close to the underground lot but that closes at 7:00 so not available. The street parking we found was more than a block away.
