Man, this was the first pizza place on the east coast I went to when I got to Delaware. Now I'm ruined for pizza when I get back to west coast. They make a damn good pie. I know, i know I'm normally the Mexican food nacho guy, who am I to comment on pizza...I'm fat...that's my credentials. And I got fat on pizza long before I discovered my love of nachos. Their menu is huge. Pizzas, sandwiches, Stromboli, salads, burgers. If you're craving something they make it. And they deliver to. But they're not open Sundays. They have a great speed of service, and the prices are so affordable. A real value for the portions. And the staff are quite nice. Legit NY Style pizza. Is it AS good? No, but it's pretty damn close! The place itself is definitely legit NY style pizza place. It's Clean with older wood tables & chairs with pizzas being cranked out constantly. Thats a genuine NY pizza joint! As a native NY'er I love the Brooklyn bridge & twin tower silhouette art on the wall. Counter service was friendly and super fast! Best variety of specialty slices I've seen outside of NY, fresh and ready to go into oven! We had a few and loved them all: Grandma, regular and Hawaiian. Vegetarian with us had a ceasar salad and it was tremendous! Crowds don't lie. There was constant flow of people coming in for lunch on a weekday. I'm from NY and have pizza pretty much weekly at home. This is as close as you're gonna get around here! Sauce is good, crust is good, perfect amount of cheese and wide variety of excellent choices. Well, as you know, I have many Mario's reviews on here since 2010, and this is another 16 inch pizza review. First of all it was delivered by DoorDash this time, and it was delivered very fast and quick, and it came undamaged and looking delicious! Second of all, it cost me about $30, but I got a lot of toppings. You guys know that nowadays a pizza that cost $18, about 7 years ago, now it's gonna cost you about $26 or more? So anyway let's talk about the pizza. The pizza was topped with mozzarella cheese obviously, pepperoni, imported ham, which is like a boiled ham, raw onions, fresh spinach, and mushrooms..... so when it got here, I had already eaten some thing, so I didn't touch the pizza for at least three hours, and by this time it was cooled down and not hot and fresh anymore, and that's my fault? So I cut a slice, because you know when you get a fresh pizza and it's 16 inches, it's so big in the box it's hard for the pizza cutter to get all the edges cut perfectly - where it doesn't kind of melt back together again with all the toppings by the time you eat it an hour later? And you know some of those pizza cutters at the pizzerias don't always cut it as well as they could, mostly because they are in a hurry or don't wanna mess up the pizza, not because they're lazy? So I can live with getting my pizza cutter out and cutting a little edge to make sure it comes out nice and clean without taking 17 toppings off the slice next to it. L O L , ha ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! That's enough with the stand up comedy! So after I let it cool down and got back to it about three hours later, I took a slice and warmed it up in the microwave for about 30 seconds, and it was heaven in my mouth. Meaning to say the taste was , a 10 out of 10, like Mario's always is, and all the toppings were just so fresh, and the crust had that chewy Italian yeasty crust, like it always has, and you could only find this crust type at the very best pizzeria's in Philadelphia or New York City! * Yummy slice! Now I usually just get pepperoni and onions and ham and mushrooms, but this time I added spinach to get a little bit of that acidic layer of flavor because my usual is Rich tasting, and I will tell you that I probably made a mistake with the spinach? The reason I made a mistake is because the spinach does have that small little tart or sour flavor, and it's not real strong, but it's there. The spinach, if I'm being honest, kind of took over the overall flavor of the toppings a little, and it took away some of the richness and butteriness and smooth, rich delicious taste of the four topping pizza, I usually get, by adding this fifth topping ?! But don't feel sorry for me, because this did not ruin the pizza, and it was still very tasty. I ate every slice and shared with no one. One of the things that was really nice about getting the spinach topping, is it Scared away my children, and they wouldn't touch it, and that's a good day! That's a very good thing, because I get the whole pie to myself. So if you want a whole pizza to yourself, you'll have to order it with a topping that scares most people away like maybe Anchovies!? Lol ... Just remember if you want a authentic Italian pizza pie, with good quality toppings, even though I think they could use a little higher quality pepperoni at this location in Newark Delaware, " then - you have to try Mario's Pizza". I'm lucky enough to live right next to the pizzeria! I will want to tell you one thing about this pizzeria, if you want me to be perfectly honest about this place, the one thing they do Right and very Well here is pizza, but almost everything else they do at this place is not the best like cheesesteaks and french fries and chicken wings! I don't know why, but they just don't have the same high quality and perfection of other Italian or pizzeria goodies? When you order from Mario's, get a pizza and stick to the pizza, and you'll be VERY satisfied , every time! I love Mario's , and there's nobody better in New Castle County!! read more

I'm picky about pizza. I try it from tons of different places & feel like I'm always left not filling that delicious pizza craving that I'll get every 3-4 weeks. Mario's has for sure met that craving. Once I have a love for something, I sadly will only order that one item BUT it ends up working out when you love it anyway! For me, the Drunken Grandma at Mario's is just *chefs kiss*. I love grandma pizza. And I love vodka sauce. So I am all for a grandma style with vodka sauce. It's so red and orangey and greasy, you'll be burping it up for days. There's so many pieces, you can have it for lunch AND dinner the next 2-3 days. It's great. Is it healthy? Absolutely not. I really enjoy the stuff shells too which come with some bread and a salad. Never order a small pie. I notice the dough so thick which ruined the experience but I'm guessing they use the same amount of dough ball for all sizes and you're just getting more dough.
