Staff were scattered, no one seemed to have a job as they bounced around from host stand, bar to table service up and downstairs. We ordered drinks with our food and they came after the entree was served. Our empty plates sat there until they brought over our mains. Then the waiter seemed perplexed that he couldn't put them down because there was no room. Complete lack of management makes this a poor dining choice. Not to mention the ambiance was dead. Saturday at lunchtime should be fun and even given the busy crowd, it felt like a lifeless cafeteria.

We turned up with our 'two courses for £15' vouchers we'd collected from the newspaper. The waiter did have a vaguely snooty expression on his face when we asked about it, but not to worry - he still had to serve us. To add insult to injury, the 'special' menus were printed on the brightest yellow paper you've ever seen, so everyone in the place could determine the cheapskates (skates - geddit??!) I think this probably says more about my own insecurities and snobbishness than about the actual restuarant, which is traditionally smart, dark wood panels and curtains all round, with some subtley romantic lighting (take note, fellas). Wipe your drool off the wine menu and begin - they'll recommend the perfect bottle so as not to overpower the delicate I had seabass resting on a bed of tangy mustard mash (speckled with mustard seeds) served with sauteed spring greens. Simple, yes, easy to get right, no. Fishers got it better than right. Flaky, meaty flesh versus creamy mash and juicy veg. I'm in an underwater heaven. The main was so filling and zingy, I can barely remember desert. I believe it involved chocolate and cream and was value for moulah, but that ain't very useful to you. What you need to know is that people come here for the fish, and stay here for the fish (and langoustine, and prawns, and lobster, and oysters, and mussels and clams). Dive deep into your pockets and head for Fishers, it's a swimmingly good place to dine.

If you get seated by 7 pm you can get 3 courses for £13.95 or 2 courses for £11.95. You get a set menu to choose from and there were quite a few options so it was well worth it. I opted for the 3-course and had the Butternut Squash Soup with crème fraiche and granary bread, Beetroot Risotto with goat's cheese and horseradish butter and the Passion Fruit And Vanilla Cheesecake to polish it all off. You can also choose a complimentary side and I got the Twice-Cooked British Potato Chips! *smile* The presentation of the food was perfect -- five stars for that. Now onto the taste -- my soup was excellent - mildly tempered, delicate and still flavorful. I wasn't too impressed with the risotto - not sure beet lends it self naturally to a risotto like asparagus does. What it lacked in flavor, it made up for in butter & that was the overwhelming taste I was left it. However it was the only vegetarian option for the mains on the set menu and in the end with the soup and chips on the side I was more than full. I loved my desert - the tangy passion fruit sorbet was very refreshing. The husband had the Seasonal Whole Fish which was the Mackerel served broiled and commented that even though it was a skinny fish with not much flesh on it, it was really fresh and seasoned well. He got the Seasonal Mixed Vegetables as the side. Our friends enjoyed their Scottish Rope-Grown Mussels and Clam Linguine. Another stand out item on the set menu which some from the group sampled was the Cullen Skink -- smoked haddock chowder with granary bread. The husband loved it and said it was rich, creamy and perfect for a cold evening. All in all, we had a great time here. Loch Fyne is a chain in the UK, but still has an air of intimacy to it. The decor of this newly renovated location was airy and the tables were well spaced out. The staff was warm and the service really efficient. Highly recommend this location if you're in the vicinity and are looking for a hearty meal.

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. This is one of those places that reminds you how small we used to be - I'm only 5ft 7 and I stoop through the worn wooden doors. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

And a beautiful spot for a picture that will include a thatched roof and hanging baskets.

I love the decor- very mythical fishermen with posters for movies and wanted signs. They have an extensive menu, including alcohol and their cider comes in 500ml bottles. We visited the Rick Stein restaurant on a short stay in Malborough, as my partner loves seafood…read more (Although I am vegetarian, there were options available, including on the set menu.) There are dining rooms both upstairs and down, the latter behind the small bar area. You enter through the shop: the decor - despite this being an 18th century heritage building - is fresh and modern, with dark wood and pale walls, and selected modern art on the walls. We chose the set menu, 3 courses for £26.95. Our starters were the steamed mussels in cider with spring onion and spinach, and roasted red pepper soup; mains were salmon fishcakes with watercress and the chickpea curry (plus a side of hispi cabbage); and we both had the sunken chocolate cake with clotted cream for pudding. (NB the Welsh rarebit isn't veggie - it's made with anchovies.) My starter and main (soup and curry) were perfectly good - the soup especially so - but not exceptional. It didn't surprise me as Rick Stein - both the chef and restaurant - are really all about seafood. My partner found the mussels superb - fresh, sweet, with just the right amount of sauce. Likewise, the fishcakes were excellent and, although they looked small on arrival, they were actually quite filling, and generous on the salmon. The hispi cabbage proved the perfect accompaniment to both mains. The chocolate cake was smooth and velvety, but not too sweet (think a brownie sort of texture) - and perfect if you like dark chocolate. We chose a 250ml glass each of one of the recommended Sauvignon blancs, which also proved a good choice. Service was excellent throughout, and the young server was very skilled at making us feel at home. Including service, the bill came to £95 for two, which for a fine dining experience was pretty good value. Others certainly think so, as on a wet mid-week evening it was packed (so booking definitely advised). There's parking along the main street outside - not a problem in the evening, but potentially a bit more challenging at lunchtime.

The dinner started with a bread course - 3 types of bread. Butter was good, just the right amount of saltiness. Also served with taramasalata, which tasted like a cross between roe and smoked salmon. The sourdough was my fave of the breads. Moving on to the amuse bouche - a really large serving! This was trout sashimi and was super delicious. I think it also had beets and another vegetable served with it. The next 2 courses were also seafood - halibut and lobster. The halibut had this really good cucumber sorbet served with it - maybe just a tad to much for the serving, but it was tasty either way. The lobster - I forgot to take a picture it was so good! The final main course was lamb. Normally, I don't really like lamb all that much, but I really liked this dish. The lamb wasn't too gamey in either the steak style or brisket style lamb. There was also sweetbreads served on the side which was perfectly fried. On to the desserts - there was a cheesecake, a chocolate dish, and petit fours to finish. These were all good, but I honestly would have preferred one more savory dish and one less sweet one. Wine pairings were on point for all the dishes. Standout for me was the British wine that was served with the trout I think? The pours were all very generous as well. Overall, great service, great food, great little restaurant. Highly recommended.

It all tasted so nice, we had the sea bass and chicken and for dessert chocolate mousse with ice cream. The ice cream was quite a unique taste so we asked what it was and even the ice cream was actually homemade! The menu deal was quite reasonable price for around £18 for 3 courses. Overall this was a really nice surprise and a restaurant with some amazing food.
