Good, straightforward chippy. The fish is excellent and the chips are a high standard.

Be it the Sunday roast, the fry up or the catch - the fish and chips. Large cod for a fiver is the going price for said tradition now that we have fished the blighters to further than seventy miles off shore. They also have haddock on the menu for the more environmentally conscious as well as crab and mixed fish cakes. More importantly however is their selling of pickled eggs for 40p and mushy peas. They don't wrap it up in newspaper unfortunately but they do have the, how does one say, charm (?) of a chippy's. Somewhat ironically they also have a poster of edible fish types next to a fish tank of seemingly depressed goldfish. Can't imagine what's got them down.

Despite my will of iron I have sampled the chips here and I would say there were above average in taste and quality for a fish and chip shop. I have never had the fish, though it does always look tasty and fresh. Of an evening they get quite a good turnover so you're unlikely to get fish and/or chips that have been left out too long.

I love the decor- very mythical fishermen with posters for movies and wanted signs. They have an extensive menu, including alcohol and their cider comes in 500ml bottles. I've been told it's quite expensive in local standards but for the atmosphere it's worth it. I'd like to give a shoutout to one of the chefs. We had shown up here and the hostess had said they were not taking any one without a reservation. But there were open tables. Disappointed, we walked out. Standing in front of the restaurant, trying to figure out what to do, the cook comes out and says they will make room for us. Absolutely the sweetest. We were so stoked to eat at this place again. He even brought out tasty food out to us himself!

The local chippy may have won some awards, but the takeaway vibe isn't so enticing. So when you want a bit more of a dining experience this is a modest cafe style setting that's nicely decorated in the centre of town. We parked in the back streets on a meter. My haddock and chips and Sam's cod and chips were freshly made and really good. Our waitrees gave us friendly service and was attentive. We went in the early evening in early Jan and it was pretty empty.

Im not all out of faith though with my old chip shop The Westbourne Chippy. Its just that its a Tuesday and it was inconveniently shut. And now im affraid to say I think ive cheated on them with another chipper. Its not my fault I was hungry and I had no choice. The Star Fish Bar was a good choice though ! And a by chance one at that! I have just enjoyed a fantastic cod and chips. Freshly cooked and with so many chips I have had to undo the top button on my shorts for fear of popping it off. I have to say the cod is on a par with the best of anything I've ever had. The chips are also lovely. But its the curry sauce thats going to bring me back. Its blooming superb. They also have a selection of burgers and keebabs but I didnt pay to much attention to them. And they also sell oi oi Savaloys what ever they are, some sort of sausage maybe ? They're very competitively priced. We both stuffed ourselves silly for tenner. And the service was very prompt and with a smile ! I shall be returning. But maybe I'll interchange with my other lover.

I don't usually buy chips though - the portion size is way too much for me, so it's largely a waste of money. Can't understand why you can't buy just a small portion of chips at a reduced price. One scoop of chips at say, £1 which is something I would like to see.
