Back in the day it used to be good, but last visit i was disappointed with the taste. The rainbow cookies were dry and the fruit filling was really tart. The mini cupcakes were ok, but as pretty as they were frosted, the glisten look was from the straight butter, not mixed with enough sugar that the shine was from. The frosting tasted like eating a stick of butter. Handicap accessibility is not that great. Mario's is simply the finest Italian Bakery I've experienced in my 6 1/2 years living on Long Island. When my wife and I were planning our wedding, we took terrible advice from our event planner and looked at several "chic/boutique" bakeries that wanted upwards of $600 for a 125 serving cake! Mario's gave us exactly what we wanted for under $200 and everyone commented on how wonderful the butter creamed cake was. Definitely recommend! read more

First I'll start off by saying that I have been a part if the Mario's family for the past 15 years! I've never been disappointed until this past Saturday. Every business can make a mistake but it's how it's handled that makes a customer feel appreciated or not. I placed an order for a dulce de le he cake got 45-50 people in white with rose gold beads to match the decor of the event. Upon picking up the cake the decor was pink and silver beads instead of rose gold. I told them and the person who took the order said it was their version of rose gold. I told her there is only one version. Secondly, the cake was waaay too big! I served 45 people and still had three quarters of the bottom cake left over. It makes me feel like I was oversold on the size of the cake so I can be charged more. I then went to Mario's to complain, the manager listened and told me he would report it to Lou (owner). No apology or any type of ownership as I purchased another cake. He gave me a $5 discount after I asked if I get a discount for their mistake on a $225 cake. Though the cake was delicious their handling of the situation will cause me to explore other bakeries in the future. read more

I grew up on Mario's bakery - I had their Italian bread practically every day of the first 17 years of my life. When I go to visit my parents we still go here, and I must say, the bread is not as good as I thought it was when I was a kid, (it doesn't get that crusty outside, chewy inside - it's more uniformly dense throughout) but it's definitely fresh and better than supermarket bread. Instead of the bread, I much prefer the pastries/cakes/cookies here, which I think are excellent, and just the way you remember them. Tops, by far, are the rainbow cookies, which are wonderful, but also very good are the black & white cookies, cheesecake, apple turnovers (the version with icing), and the brownies, rich and walnut-y. I always pick up some rainbow cookies when I'm visiting the folks, and I'm kinda craving them right now... read more

I am adding an additional review as I have become very disillusioned about this place. I have been purchasing birthday cakes here for years but I needed a gluten free one for my niece who has celiac and must be gluten free. I was told in no uncertain terms that they only did a chocolate cake and I have had that cake before and it is horrible. A bakery should be able to bake a gluten free cake of a different flavor because if they do one they can do another. Yes I will be making the cake myself as they suggested and will not be patronizing this establishment in the future. read more

Update from my previous review. Unfortunately I took 2 stars away. I ordered a cake for my son's birthday party, this past weekend. Though I was satisfied with it's appearance, after pointing out that they put a U instead of an O in my son's name. Which I had to wait an extra 5 mins to get fixed. And the the captain American symbol was much smaller then we discussed. But I took the cake and rushed to the party. Everyone commented on how cute the cake was. My very tired son was as happy as he could be when he seen it. Later when he was more lively he told me how much he loves it. Then I walked by some of the mothers of his classmates, whipping their teeth and lips! They were trying to rub off the deeply blue stains that the icing caused. Of coarse I know that colored icing is dyed. But I hate the fact that the icing not only leave ur teeth colored, but Also has to have such a strong taste of dye. There just as to be another way to get the perfect color without these flaws!!! read more

Bought cannoli's, black & white cake, almond horn, chocolate cigars and napoleons. Cake was delicious and my mom said the almond horn was so good. However the napoleons and chocolate cigars were stale and the cream tasted horrible. The cannoli were soggy and not crunchy. Not sure why they are pre filling the cannoli instead of when ordering? Please don't say bc you are very busy and lines are long. Only 1 person was in the store with me at the time. The staff are friendly and sweet. Bakery items should taste fresh not stale or soggy. read more

So I have made my final trip to Mario's. I have bought my ITALIAN bread there a number of times and specifically ask for SEMOLINA.....the bread I am given is white and dry.....NO WAY Semolina.......it's happened a couple of times in the past and I overlooked it cause I like the owner Lou. Last week I go and buy a small box of Italian cookies to bring to my aunt in the Meadowbrook Care Center in Freeport. I pick out 3 k8nds and also pick out THREE Pignole cookies to add to the box....and a few sarviordi cookies. I got to see my aunt and told her to keep the cookies for her company later in the day. I saw her the next day and said " how were the cookies"......she said......"HORRIBLE".....hard as rocks. Now.....the straw that broke the back........today I go in and ask for a Semolina loaf....kid says.....we have three left. I bring it home and slice it.........NO WAY SEMOLINA.....see photo..... Sorry to say here is my new routine..........For Italian Bread I will drive 5 miles away to Roma Rays in Valley Stream for THE BEST SEMOLINA BREAD around.....beautiful, crisp, and GOLDEN yellow! AND THE BEST ITALIAN COOKIES....BEST EVER Bakery in Massapequa Park!!.......thanks Mario's for making me mess with the carbon footprint and burn all that gas for my Semolina and Italian Cookies!!! read more

What happened to this bakery? This was my go to spent a lot of money over the years and since the owners have changed it is just not the same. The inflated prices are ridiculous I just couldn't get over how expensive everything was and is I walked out and to be honest the last couple of things I got from there weren't that great I got cannolis they were soggy I got a black and white cake it was so dry. I'm just really disappointed the owner doesn't seem to care or he just doesn't seem to care what people think I should say I like to think while owners care about their business but I believe this new owner just doesn't care what people think of his food anymore. Anyway I'll be finding a new place to go read more

I have used this bakery in the past but never again!!! If you want to deal with a friendly owner, then DON'T come here! Customers should be treated with respect and kindness! The male owner is a very nasty guy who has an attitude when you want to confirm the cake details over the phone or when you want to see the cake upon delivery, before he drives off. Maybe he needs some classes on manners! The cake doesn't even taste great and the words on the cake were not even centered. Will not come back here again or even recommend this place! I give this place 0 stars, but unfortunately, I was required to give it at least a 1 in order to post the review. read more

The ONLY reason I continue to come to this bakery is strictly for convenience. The cakes are so dryyyyyyy-I ordered a tres leches and received a ZERO leches-It was dry crumbly and disgusting. The owner is also extremely rude and crass! Also seems to be the same way with his employees from all the yelling at them that I heard. Do yourselves all a HUGE favor and go to Dortoni's. It's worth the trip-I know I will from now on. read more

Amazing cake call milk so recommend it I'm gonna pick up another one on Sunday thank you Mario for making such an amazing cake

Not only was the food not fresh, but the service was some of the worst I've experienced in my life. The two women helping out the customers were snotty and rude to everyone who walked in while I waited for my order. My recommendation is google something else nearby. I know there's better options and whenever you see the snotty employees, it likely means that the higher ups are even worse. read more

I am updating my review based on more recent customer service experiences- Every time I've gone back to Mario's I have had positive experiences with the staff who work there! And the desserts at Mario's are excellent. There is a cream pie with strawberries and peaches on top that I love to get for family get togethers. It is light and just the right amount of sweet. It's especially great during the summer but I'm sure will taste just as good in the fall/winter! read more

Disappointed with a chocolate mousse cake that was recently purchased. It was still moist but had a stale "refrigerator" taste.

I came late in the afternoon on a Sat. The brownies were excellent. The cookies were all so hard and stale that I could not eat them.

In a word-disgusting. We paid $50 for two cakes; a strawberry shortcake and a carrot cake. One was worse than the other. Both cakes were dry, stale and crumbly. I'll wait on line at Front Street in Rockville Centre for hours rather than buy an overpriced pile of stale sugar from Mario's. read more

During Covid-haven't visited Marios for my favorite black & white cookies! Today put on the mask & gloves and went to marios to get my cookies-needless to say the 2 -$2.50 ea cookies were thrown in a bag on top of each other with no tissue inbetween-the cookies were stuck to each other and icing stuck to bag-ugly outcome......I live 4 blocks away so they weren't in a heated car and since I went right home-I now wondered how the girl placed them in the bag -usually they lift them with waxed tissue-now the scarey thought-since I couldn't see this in action-they had the counter blocked-did she handle them with bare hands? She took customer before me -his cash-no gloves-now got my cookies????????????? This is serious/not only in covid but is this their covid procedure-Awful in all ways...shame on you marios-no regard for anything! read more

Mario's was one of my favorite bakery's - what happened? I stopped there today and bought a variety of pastries and chocolate moose with what looked like whipped cream, it was some type of hydrogenated disgusting icing. They got our "special order" wrong! Came in to place an order. First of all, I was left waiting for 20 minutes. To the point that a line started mounting behind for specialty cake orders. At no point did they workers make eye contact or let me know that they would be with me. Instead I had to walk up to them and ask if I could be helped. By the time they finally came over to help, the girls was short and rushing my order due to the line that had now formed behind me. She took my order in like a minute and didn't ask questions, didn't confirm the order, gave me 1 word answers to my questions and done. . . One thing I am certain of is that I asked for 3 things in that minute 1) "50 person cake", 2) Doc McStuffin design and 3) French Cream. When I came in to pickup my cake, the order was WRONG. As you can imagine I was now even more frustrated because of how I got treated upon ordering. The "50 person cake" became a cake for maybe 30. The worse part is that the manager, tried to tell me that I got what I had ordered, a "half-sheet cake". I don't even know what the heck "Half-sheet" even means as I am not a baker, much less order a "half-sheet" cake. I specifically asked for a 50 person cake". Reasons I got the 50 person cake is because it was to be the center piece of our birthday table, and a 50 person cake though lower in profile was supposed to be a lot larger (wider). How did I know that? I came in with my wife to inquire in to pricing and physical dimensions of cakes (not "sheets"). Instead the girl entered a order for a taller but extremely tiny cake. Secondly the cake I should have received would have pink writing a white frosted cake. Instead, and inexplicably so, the cake I received had pink writing on same colored pink frosting Result, writing made almost invisible. The manager tried to make it right but the damage had already been done. Unless they could produce a 50 person Doc Mcstuffin cake with French Cream in 10 minutes (impossible), there was nothing he was going to be able to do to satisfy my original order which is all we wanted from the start. A special order cake is not a pair sneakers where if someone orders you the wrong color or size, no biggie store has other colors and sizes in stock. A special ordered cake is unique and specific to one's need! As the old adage goes ""Sorry" doesn't fix the lamp". In summary, Mario's makes good tasting cake. But if I come in to order a cake that is going to cost me $80-$100 dollars, it would have been nice if the young lady taking my order spent 80-100 seconds on said order! Had she at least confirmed my order back to me, we would have gotten it right and I would have walked away a happy customer. Side note: As I was coming in to pickup my cake, there was another lady who was visibly upset because she had been given the wrong cake altogether, and had to come back. Thus, we do not appear to be an anomaly. read more
