Love the salad bar and our food was delicious...I had the special which was the grilled sea bass with mushroom Marsala...one of the best sauces I've ever eaten. Every time I think about Natchitoches, home to my many of my ancestors, I think about Mariner's. I've been going to Mariner's with my family since I was a child and we've always had a deep appreciation for the fresh seafood, nice ambiance, and river views from the restaurant. Whenever I can make my way back to Natchitoches with a little spare time, I always try to stop to where I feel it all began with my love for dining. I've never had a bad experience here. Yes, it's pricey, but you're getting exactly what you pay for here. Large portions, fresh food, and a country/fine dining experience. I say this because they are perfectly fine with anyone coming in as casual or fancy as what floats your boat. I've had just about everything here, but my heart always rests upon the Crawfish Etoufee, Louisiana Crawfish Tails, or the Crawfish Combo that has both fried tails and etouffee. I always tell friends that whenever driving through Natchitoches, to take a stop at Mariner's. On a perfect sunny Sunday, there's nothing better than sitting on the patio. But, as long as you're at a window, the view of the country can't be beat. read more

Mariner's is the "fancy" restaurant in Natchitoches. They have steaks, chicken dishes, salads, etc. All food is served with a bit of a Cajun flare, which makes it stand out slightly from other similar restaurants you'd find elsewhere. The Sunday noon buffet was my Dad's favorite when he came to NSU to visit. It is a pretty nice spread and is worth mentioning if you are visiting Natchitoches. Also, the view of Sibley Lake is great! The Cove Bar & Grill at Mariner's is often a good time and a lot of locals go there. If you are looking for a dinner/drinks/dancing-type night, go to the Cove. read more

Mariner's is a great little restaurant located on the shores of Lake Sibley in Natchitoches. I arrived with some work associates this evening just as the sun was setting. Our table by the window was perfectly situated to catch the incredible aurora and beauty of the sun reflecting on the lake as it set... really spectacular. I was also impressed with the cuisine. I ordered the crabmeat au gratin special and a small salad. The salad is served from a salad bar (I LOVE salad bars!) and the au gratin was deliciously creamy and well prepared. Visiting from Houston. Very disappointed in the freshness of the food and prices. Ordered the special....pan fried snapper ($27). Small fillet soaking in a sauce. Fish tasted and looked like it had been frozen for awhile. Did I mention over salted? Wife got the stuffed flounder.....better but still overly seasoned and reliant on over powering stuffing. The hamburger on the kids menu was huge and tasty. Ended up eating half of my daughter's. Conclusion: nice location on the water, mediocre food at best, prices extreme for the quality.....better off going to a chain. read more

I came here on at night, but it looks like it would be a great place to dine is the summer. It has a huge deck on the river. The inside is also big, a bit dated but with good 'maritime vibes'. My only problem is the price of the entrees. I got some basic chicken fettuccini (I think chicken lefouche?) and it was $24. The menu description made it sound like it had some kind of flare. My friend got stuffed chicken, which he said was terrible, also for $24. I would only recommend for the bar area and some apps/drinks or a lunchtime sandwich. read more

Went to celebrate mother in laws birthday. Reservations were at 8:30 but most of us got there before 8, which was supposedly fine. We joined the table (where the rest of the party was already seated) and it took 15 minutes before the server came and took our drink orders and even then, it took another 10 for her to bring it. Mother in laws drink was forgotten and it took another 10 minutes for her to bring her drink. Another 30-45 before food orders were taken. By the time food even made it to the table one of us wasn't able to even order dessert because the kitchen was already closing down. One party member ordered a bisque and by the time food was coming out to us they were out of it. We finally ended up leaving after 10 o'clock. And on top of that still had the audacity to charge gratuity. Definitely will not be back-- let alone bringing a 13 top to dine here again. read more

We had been traveling hard and stopped here at the end of a long day. The hotel clerk recommended Mariners. So I checked the Yelp reviews, which were spotty. We were welcomed, offered drinks and had the specials explained. Page ordered a cup of gumbo and side saled bar, and I had the grouper special. Gumbo was good- Page wanted to compare it to her own, and it compared very well. The salad bar was fresh and complete. Perfect. The grouper was spectacular. Nice sauce with crabmeat to boot. Went for Sunday Brunch at 2:00. Bloody Mary's were AWESOME but went down hill from there. Service not great, no one knew who had our table so no one came for quiet awhile. We got the fried chicken with deviled eggs, bbq shrimp and Jalepeno grits and the fried fish platter. Shrimp and grits and fried chicken and deviled eggs were so so, and shrimp and grits were barely warm. Fried fish platter was cold with cold French fries and a funny taste to it. I'm always upset when family dining means I've got to eat at Mariner's. To be honest, I've never had a positive experience here. The waiters are typically snobby to those who aren't dressed like they're about to play a round of golf. The food is generic southern fried food, yet you are expected to pay a premium for it. Their steaks can be good, but will never be above the type you get at a place like Logan's Roadhouse or a similar "peanut shell on the floor" place. Just save your money. Go elsewhere. read more

This is the BEST food I have eaten in a while. Since they have reopened they are amazing. There is not a single thing on the menu that I wouldn't recommend. However if I were to make a recommendation it would be to get the lamb pops as an appetizer then the pan seared duck for my entree. And the bread budding for dessert, definitely a must have. The ribeye is another favorite of mine and I do not even enjoy ribeyes that much but Mariners definitely knows what they are doing. Staff is amazing. Mariners is located on Sibley Lake right outside downtown Natchitoches. Over the years, we've eaten here many times. It is consistently good and we've always had a good experience. I've eaten the Fried Shrimp and the Stuffed Shrimp is really good, also. My husband likes the Stuffed Cajun Catfish. The salad bar is stuffed full with different salads..cheeses....breads.....all sorts of yummy starters! We haven't tried the dessert.....but, last time we were there, we asked the guy next to us what he ordered.....he was splitting "The Banana Carmel Xango" thing with his wife......Gooooood Lord.....it looked amazing! ..... I thought this place was very good, and other than being a tad expensive for what you get, it would have received 5 stars. I had the Shrimp and Crab Oscar, which was asparagus, stuffed shrimp, lump crab meat and hollandaise sauce on top of an English muffin. I would definitely eat it again, as it was well flavored. The one option I would have gone with if I had it over again though was the soup... it looked delicious compared to the salad bar, and the night we were there, it was crawfish and corn bisque. read more

Due to Mariner's amazing location with a breathtaking view on Sibley Lake, my family and I were very excited to dine here to celebrate my sister's graduation. We made reservations months ahead of time, as restaurant variety is something that Natchitoches lacks and we wanted to make sure we would be able to have a nice meal that evening. When we arrived, it was very busy, and nearly every table was full. Unfortunately, the tables were all very close together, so this made me feel very claustrophobic after a few minutes of sitting down. I looked through the menu, and I was a bit surprised by some of the high prices, but I didn't mind too much considering that I wasn't the one paying and that the meal options were all a bit classier anyways. We ordered lots of appetizers, and I ordered the Pasta Alfredo and added grilled chicken to it for an additional charge of $3.99. Honestly, I don't quite remember what appetizers we ordered, but they were all pretty good. However, it was a lengthy wait for them, and they came out sporadically. The wait for our food was even longer. We arrived at 5:30, yet it was about 7:00 before most of our meals arrived. Meanwhile, my food itself wasn't overly amazing. The chicken tasted way too smokey, and the alfredo sauce was just average. By this point, after sitting in a crammed setting for nearly two hours, I was incredibly antsy and ready to go. Unfortunately, though, two people at my table had to wait an additional ten or twenty minutes or so before they got their food, which was incredibly disappointing. There's a saying that God does not give with both hands, and I think that saying can also be applied to the restaurant industry in the case of Mariner's. Mariner's, though equipped with a beautiful view and a lack of competition, disappoints with its slow service and average food. read more

My husband and I came to Natchitoches for the Christmas lights. It is a three hour drive from our house and we are already planning on coming back soon just to visit Mariner's again. We showed up 10 minutes after they opened and it was already filling up! We were promptly greeted and sat by a very friendly woman who seemed to be the owner or manager. She made sure we were satisfied with our seats and let us know our server would be with us soon. As promised, Matthew came to our table almost immediately. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with everything. We never felt rushed. We ordered bloody marys. Now let me start by saying we spent the night before in Shreveport and hit up several spots and ordered bloody marys at each spot. The Mariner had it going on! Just the right amount of alcohol, fresh ground pepper, and pickled green beans, green olives and a lemon and lime wedge were in with the drink. Amazing! We ordered oysters on the half shell and they were so good, we ordered another dozen. Then we ordered our meals. I ordered the Bourbon Street, which is grilled tilapia, lump crab meat, and grilled shrimp topped with hollendaise sauce. I had the salad bar (more to come about this later) and a stuffed potato. Holy smokes! Everything was perfectly cooked! The flavors all together were amazing! My husband order the tilapia morney. It was a battered fried tilapia with lump crab meat, pan seared shrimp and a light cheese sauce. He also had the salad bar and stuffed potato. He said the fish was flaky, delicious and perfect! He gives it a 10 out of 10! Now for the potato it was essentially a twice baked potato. Very good. The salad bar. At the front of the bar they had a crispy french bread slice with melted cheese that was awesome! Along with two types of salad mix, iceburg and ceasar. The had chopped boiled eggs, green olives, cole slaw, broccoli salad, seafood salad, pickled okra, green tomatoes, cherry peppers, sweet gherkins, shredded parmesean, black olives, multiple dressings, baby carrots, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, and I know I'm missing some things. They also had a cheddar cheese block at the end. Between the amazing service from Matthew and the rest of the staff, the cleanliness of the restaurant and bathroom, the view, and of course the food, we were very pleased with our entired experience. Wonderful place to dine. Whether inside the main restaurant, or ouside in the docks area, the foid, service, and view are great. I don't normally eat salads, but I do enjoy the self serve salad bar here. There is a lot more than just greenery on this salad bar. It keeps me busy while my meal is prepared. I love getting the seafood or captain's platter blackened and broiled instead of fried. Their twice backed potato is a must try. This place is always clean and geared more toward quiet dining. Growing up this was 'the place' to eat in Natchitoches. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with our recent experience. The food was mediocre at best. I had a glass of Merlot that was not very good at all - although my partner had a white wine that he said was ok. I had the crawfish combo, which was okay but certainly nothing that I would make special trip to get again. We had the calamari and it was in a sea of sweet chili sauce (straight from SYSCO). My partner had fried catfish that tasted a bit bland. The entrees do come with a full salad bar, bu the items on the bar are somewhat limited for the prices paid. $80 later I was having regrets for having chosen Mariner's. I hope that they can reclaim the 'glory days' of when this was 'the place, but that won't happen until the quality of the food improves. Very disappointing return to a once outstanding restaurant. Even with a reservation it took 30 minutes to be seated because "your table is not ready" even though there were numerous tables available. The food was underwhelming to say the least (ex. Ordered rare steak and received a cold, well-done version) and the waiter was very unattentive (ex. had to ask twice for an extra plate). Also, the parking lot at night is very poorly lit making for an unsafe customer environment. I gave the Mariner 1 Star but if I could I would give it a -5 Stars. read more
