Was in the area and stumbled upon this awesome home-bakery! This Mexican & Guatemalan inspired bakery was such a perfect treat for the day! Aesthetics & Ambiance: 8/10 the ambiance is quiet and low key and the aesthetic feels like you walked into your childhood bakery. Service: 9/10 everyone was so kind, and walked me through each item so I knew what the flavors were. They also brought complimentary chips and dip with was a nice touch. I'm not entirely sure the name of each item, but... The sugar & vanilla cream bread: 7.5/10 was a bit sweet but the vanilla cream was perfect! The bread topped with cream and sugar: 6.5/10 it was good, but the bread being so tall with it only on one side left the bread a bit dry. The strawberry & cream pastry: 7/10 was really good, the bread does get a little tough. Get it warmed up before and it's amazing!! They have many other amazing pastries to try!

Came here on a Saturday around 4pm. Parking lot available. Plenty seating inside. Friendly service they had some music playing. Ordered the pupusas revueltas they were big and flavorful. The jugo de papaya and mango were freshly done. The pickled onions topping was really good. Only thing the table could've been cleaned a bit more throughly. And metal utensils. All in all good for price to taste was worth it!

Panadería plus a restaurant all in one. They also have natural juices, smoothies, aguas frescas and coffee beverages. They have a pupusas special on Wednesday: 6 pupusas for $19.99. They offer menudo daily and lots of yummy desert options too. They have a fairly large seating/dining with AC with clean restrooms and lots of front parking. (That can be an issue with a lot of LBC establishments and super inconvenient when you want to go to eat but can't find parking). Definitely recommend and would come back!

The food is 100% authentic Mexican and Guatemalteco food. Everything is full of flavor and portions are full filling. Service is fast and attentive. Ambiance's is great everyone is so friendly! Would recommend and return with the whole family to try everything on the menu!

This Marilu's location (versus the OG one down a few blocks on Cherry) was less panaderia and more little cafe with an amalgamation of home-style Guatemalan, Salvadorian, and Mexican fare. My husband and teen ordered pupusas, which were piping hot and freshly made, with a generous amounts of filling (especially the frijoles). Their curtido was tangy and they had this awesome chile to spice it up along with the standard salsa roja. I ordered the molletes, fresh bolillo split and slathered with beans and a healthy sprinkling of white cheese melted on top. It was simple, delicious, and super filling. We got my toddler a licuado de platano. They must have known it was going to be for him because they mixed in some choco milk powder in too. It was SO much for the cost. I'd go back just for that.

I had an amazing experience here! The revuelta and chicharrón con queso pupusas were absolutely delicious--soft, flavorful, and packed generously with filling. You can really taste the quality and care in each bite. The curtido (pickled cabbage salad) and salsa that come on the side were just as impressive--fresh, tangy, and served so you can top your pupusas just the way you like them. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted with a complimentary soup and warm bread, which was such a comforting and thoughtful touch. The entire meal felt like home. To top it off, the cashier/waitress was incredibly friendly, sweet, and polite. She made sure we had everything we needed, was very accommodating, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and relaxed. Highly recommend this place especially for pupusa Tuesday where each one is 3.25!--authentic flavors, great service, and generous portions. I'll definitely be coming back for $21!

Honestly, this location has the best pupusas ever! Whether you're dining in or taking your order to go, the quality is always great. One of the perks of eating in is that you get to enjoy their complimentary veggie soup. The ambiance is nice, and the staff are very attentive. I do recommend ordering ahead if you're picking up especially on Tuesdays!

The chilaquiles plate looked too big so I ordered a torta version. I asked if it was spicy and the lady said a little. She was right. It was just spicy enough for me. The griddled torta bread was super fresh. The chips were lightly sauced and placed on the bread with black bean spread, mayo, and crumbled fresh cheese. Before it arrived someone popped out and asked if I wanted onion on it and I said yes but no onions were in the sandwich so I blame my poor Spanish. The red sauce on the chips was pretty basic with a strange bitter aftertaste. Maybe it's more Guatemalan or Salvadorean than Mexican. I'm used to richer warm red sauces. All in all I like the place and people and want to try other dishes but wouldn't order this torta again.

The staff here is always friendly and although my Spanish is terrible they always try their best to help me. Everything I have eaten here has always been tasty and fresh. I keep coming back because I like it so much. What makes it better is its a mix of countries foods so you can get a wider variety of items. The bakery and the cooked food are equally good. The coffee is not bad here for your basic cup of joe. read more

After calling 12 different bakeries trying to find a place that could make a Snoopy themed 3 Leches cake for 40 teenagers, I was frustrated & ready to give up because NONE of the 12 places could fill my order! UNTIL I tried one last place...MARILU"S BAKERY!! I spoke with Yashira & she was SO friendly, Profesional & accommodating! I never heard so many "YES, WE CAN DO THAT! NO PROBLEM!!" In my life!! Those words were music to my ears! Then I found out that Marilu's Bakery in Long Beach also provides food catering services!! So I sat down in their restaurant section to try a plate off the menu. I ordered the Birria Plate w/black beans (beans are prepared in several ways. It is your choice) & wht/yellow rice w/small veggies. AND Comes w/HANDMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS!! Plus all the toppings (onion, cilantro, freshly cut limes & a separate side bowl of the Birria soup/consomate. I ordered 4 pizzas from a popular pizza place just in case some of the guests did not like the Birria. No one took not one slice of the pizzas. Everyone preferred Marilu's Birria! Marilu's even wrapped the handmade tortillas individually in 3's and neatly laid them in rows so the guests could easily help themselves. $$PRICES$$? MARILU'S PRICES WERE UNBEATABLE! I GIVE THEM 5 STARS FOR SERVICE (they delivered, on time, smart packaging, provided extra everything & kept great communication at all times). 5 stars for delicious quality food, 5 stars for cleanliness they even hand carried all the food as well as the cake into the party & placed neatly on the buffet table. CAKE - The cake was made custom EXACTLY as my daughter described each detail to Yashira. The most fresh, soft & delicious cake, decorated beautifully with all the detail and colors we wanted! THANK YOU MARILU'S BAKERY! I will definitely hire you for our next event and have already recommended you to others. I forgot to mention their wide variety of fresh juices, healthy veggie/fruit mixes, smoothies made of fresh fruit & the Horchata is a MUST TRY!! Really awesome bakery. Very nostalgic and they had guatemalan tamales so that makes me happy. The prices are really good too! Like back in the day when youd buy bread and it would last you for 2 or 3 days and you didnt spend more than 5 or 10 bucks lol. The champurrado wasn't sweet champurrado but it was still warm and sigh made my morning happy. The tres leches dessert was yummy and disappeared. The tamales disappeared and the bread will probably disappear for lunch or dinner lol. I highly recommend this place :) read more

Too live for!!! Wife and I stopped by based on reviews while visiting MOLAA for Day Of the Dead exhibit. We ordered champurado and torta ala mexicana along with menudo and various sweet bread. It was my first time here today with my gf and OMG Nadia was seriously the most sweetest person ever! She gave amazing reccomendations, was so patient with us ordering and made us feel so comfortable.. She came to our table multiple times to ask us if we needed anything else! My fiance absolutely loves the small conchas and all other pan dulce from here! She got me hooked! This is definitely our go to pan dulce spot now. Their bolios are a bit small but very soft and delicious. The staff there is always so friendly too. I recommend this place! read more

It had been a while since I've moved from this neighborhood and was really happy to see that this bakery has successfully grown into a thriving business. My husband and I loved their atole de elote and our tortas de tamal. Unfortunately didn't take any pictures of our breakfast but I can really tell you that it was delicious . Today we went back to try their menudo which was really good and their handmade tortillas oh yes we also shared a torta de chilaquiles with eggs, another favorite. We'll definitely be back soon!! They also have very tasty sweet bread, cakes, natural juices and hot drinks. Again I'm very happy to support small businesses like Marilu's bakery. read more

Been in the area for a few years now and typically came in for their torta de tamal or some times just for bolillo. The cashiers are always generous and recommending other items (great saleswoman). As of late they just became a FULL BLOWN GUATEMALAN restaurant and man was I in awe at how good the food was. Had their pupusa revuelta and one with Chicharon. Really locals come out and support this amazing new spot! Burritos, pupusas, platos de pollo. And a banana smoothie that's to die for! read more

The drinks are seasonal and workers are open to notes if you have any changes you want to make to your drink. I ordered the Tiramisu coffee in a medium ($6.80 w/ tax) and no changes needed to be made. It was perfect. Their coffee is elevated without breaking that $7 mark that so many coffee shops hold as the standard nowadays. Will definitely be coming back.

I stopped in for a coffee and a side of bacon, and my total was almost $20. For such a simple order, that's hard to justify. I understand food costs have increased, but the pricing feels excessive compared to other local restaurants that serve quality food at much more reasonable prices. My biggest concern, however, is the impact the business has had on our neighborhood. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead.

The menudo was one of my favorite dishes here. Also tried the chilaquiles here and was surprised that they caught up quickly and seems like the recipes are on point.
