Tried Marigold Kitchen while downtown and had a great experience overall. I sat outside on a beautiful day, which made for such a nice breakfast café atmosphere. The service was absolutely great, and the restaurant has a lively, charming vibe. It does tend to get busy, so I'd recommend arriving at a reasonable time. I ordered the French toast, which was clearly their own elevated take on the classic. The flavors were good, but the texture was a little different than I expected and threw me off slightly. It felt more like a chic, creative version of French toast rather than the traditional style, which is the only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five. Everything else was fantastic, though, and I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu. Worth checking out if you're in the area.
We were visiting Madison recently and found this restaurant through Yelp. It was a Wed. Morning I liked the vibe right when I entered. Bright cheerful charming decor. I was skeptical when I realized we had to order our food at the counter vs. being seated and served. I didn't like having to pay gratuity prior to being provided any service. We ordered Chilaquiles and the French Toast. The chilaquiles was not authentic but we really liked it! Would definitely recommend. Same for the French toast! Yummy. The fruit was so sweet and fresh. The almonds were a nice touch. 5 Stars for the food. I liked that the water was self service. I liked that take out boxes were readily available. I didn't have to ask or wait in either case. I think the only negative of our visit was having to find parking.
Perfect time to go is on a Thursday morning!!! As always the food is delicious and farm to table! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is so relaxing! Grab a table. The corner and enjoy life!
This place just gets better with time. It was nearly a decade later for my second visit and I was so grateful to find a restaurant that offers nutritional and fun recipes for breakfast. My sister and I popped in on a Saturday morning and we're greeted by the friendly staff. I ordered the Tempeh grain bowl with roasted vegetables and it did not disappoint. I wish more restaurants would get creative with using ingredients like tempeh and tofu to make eating out and finding healthy food, a little easier. This spot is bustling with good energy, colorful decor, and a menu that makes it hard to choose just one dish. So, I didn't choose just one dish... I ended up ordering the buckwheat pancakes with lemon ricotta as a treat to enjoy later. We ended up being too full to have them with our actual meal. Anytime I see buckwheat pancakes on the menu (they're harder to find), I order them! I highly recommend paying Marigold Kitchen a visit if you find yourself in the downtown Madison area. The spot is just a stone throw from the main square.
This place is a very cute brunch spot and has pretty quick service! You get in line when you come in, order at the counter, and then sit down and they'll bring it out. The atmosphere is very nice with cute decor and a decent amount of seating. I ordered the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte, which was pretty tasty! The breakfast burrito was also good, it had a little too much sweet potato and not enough of the delicious cream sauce, but otherwise it was delicious and super filling! It was so big I could definitely have split it with someone. They also have a nice selection of pastries and everything on the menu looks delicious.
The restaurant is small but with plenty of seating. Very modern decor inside. I love the outside seating area. It's actually neat concept order and then find your seat. So service went by really quick! I wish they offered turkey meats as well. The braised chicken and pancakes were amazing. The coffee could have a better presentation, especially using fancy names. Overall very good can not wait to try again
Marigold Kitchen is hands down one of the most special breakfast spots in Madison. The line often stretches out the door, and it's easy to see why--everything about this place feels joyful and well-crafted. The food, the atmosphere, the staff--it all comes together perfectly. Their pancake specials are always my favorite. They rotate frequently, so there's always something new and exciting to try, but they are consistently fluffy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Last time I visited, it was for my birthday--and honestly, it was my only request. They made the morning feel so special, and it was the perfect way to celebrate. The staff deserves a shoutout. They are friendly, attentive, and genuinely make you feel welcome, even when the place is buzzing. The energy inside is bright, happy, and full of that downtown Madison charm. Pro tip: if you can, go on a weekday when you have off work. The wait is shorter, but the experience is just as amazing. Marigold Kitchen is one of those spots you remember long after you leave. Every visit feels like a celebration, and it has quickly become my go-to for a perfect breakfast in Madison. Truly a five-star experience every time!
Marigold Kitchen is situated in the heart of downtown Madison and is a stellar local spot that clearly has the heart of Madison and for good reason. I will say that it took me a few trips to Madison before I popped into Marigold Kitchen, and the reason it took so long is because the line to get into Marigold gets real deep real quick...and I never had time! But now, I will be sure to make time. With that being said, do not get discouraged when you see the line of folks circling the block...yes, the line is long...but they are efficient and keep things moving...plus it is worth the wait. The way things work here is a first come first serve situation at the door. There are no dedicated servers, you wait in line until there is space, then you head up to the counter where you order and then find your table. Once the food is ready, they bring it out and you enjoy. So, it is a combination of casual/counter service and sit-down dining...and it works. We got lucky enough to grab a few seats at the bar, which was convenient and also gave us a front row seat to all the action behind the counter and in the kitchen. The menu is a healthy mix of all varieties of dishes, but all with the essence of a fresh and local flare. We came in shortly after opening, so went with breakfast. I went classic pancakes sided with breakfast potatoes and sausage links. My buddy went with the breakfast sandwich and field greens. To wash things down we both went with a cold brew, one to enjoy during and one to go! Both our meals were delicious, simple, yet complex...and prepared well! Their menu is dominated by breakfast and brunch, but they do offer a small selection of lunch style plates and even a few cocktails. Service was stellar from the hostess to the counter associate to the food runners. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The space is bright, welcoming and laid out well. They utilized every inch of the place, so it can get a bit tight, but again, it is laid out well. Overall, Marigold Kitchen is a solid spot in downtown Madison, and is easily worth the wait!
The best place for breakfast in Madison! Get here early so you don't have a wait. It's an order at the counter, take a number situation. The food comes out in a good amount of time. Everything is so delicious! On a recent trip I had the skillet and it was incredible. Their drinks are great too. The matcha is my favorite!
This place is amazing. Super popular. Long line but moved quickly. Helps to have smaller party and request to seat outside on patio. Great location but challenging to find parking. Prices not bad. Food served quickly and complete. Not far from University of Wisconsin and downtown. Worth visiting!
Decent portion of french toast. Very nice sweet treat for brunch! The cafe is an order before seating format. The place has a pretty bright pastel theme. Food service is quick! But mostly self serve for everything else.
Discovered this spot while my little sister was in town visiting and now have already been back with plans to keep returning. I've ordered the same thing both times because I loved it so much- the Three Grain & Tempeh Bowl. It's so fresh and delicious, filling without making you feel over-full and gross. She had the Mushroom & Gouda Omelette and also very much enjoyed. The seating space is small so you can definitely run into a wait during busy times, but service moves fast! You'll order at the counter and be handed a number to take to your table, where the food will be delivered. During busy times I've seen them try to help coordinate seating arrangements but it is otherwise largely a seat yourself sort of place. Next on my list are the lemon ricotta pancakes which are reportedly famous and a turmeric cookie I spotted in the bakery section :)
Cute place, the staff is awesome. Food hasn't blown me away. Scone was just okay. Breakfast sandwich was so wet that the bacon wasnt crispy. Eggs cooked over easy had lots of uncooked whites.
I have been eating at Marigold for 20 years. Whenever I am in town I DEFINITELY pop in for breakfast. On a recent visit I wondered how this place has maintained over the years such high quality as the food is just as fantastic as the day it opened. Everything in the menu is certain to be good, though I lean toward the omelettes which are perfectly cooked and seasoned. My only rule is that whatever I order must come with a side of potatoes, which are crispy and spicy. Yum! As an added treat, I recommend the coconut macaroons, dipped in dark chocolate. I wish I had one right now! read more

Good food, just not for me. We visited on a Saturday at 12 and had to wait outside for about 15 minutes. When we got inside, we waited in a little alcove until the hostess told us it was our turn to order. Then we went to the counter and placed our order. They gave us our drinks and a number and told us what table was ours. The water is self serve, they have a station set up with glasses and water. I'm a big beverage person. I like my water and I like a few refills on my coffee. There's no server going around with a pot for refills. I also like to relax during my meal, but this place is REALLY LOUD and everybody is sitting on top of each other. Some people like that, but not me. I got the tofu scrambler, which was hot and fresh. It came with some salad greens which had dressing on it. It couldn't taste any flavor on it. My scrambler had LOTS of tofu in it with potatoes and black beans and was very tasty. There were a few tortilla chips, too. Hubby was a bit disappointed with his duck confit hash. It had a lot of potatoes, but not much duck. He also had some salad greens with the flavorless dressing. There were plenty of people here who were really enjoying themselves, and I'm glad to see a successful place, but it's just not for me. read more

Came here with a group from work while we were in Madison for a conference. Everyone who worked there was so kind and so attentive. The food was amazing and fresh. We were all very happy with our food. The churro latte was also delicious! They had indoor and outdoor space to dine which we loved. We would definitely come back! read more

Walking up to the restaurant on a cold Saturday morning, there was a line out the door and the small interior was packed. They had a free coffee stand outside to keep customers warm, which I appreciated. When it was our turn to dine, we first waited in a short line to order our food at the counter. I found this a bit odd. Our seat was at a small table for 2 (which was fine), but we had to squeeze between about 12 inches or so because customers were seated back to back. Once seated, we realized we had to get up to serve ourselves water so once again, I had to squeeze between those 2 tables of people, which felt very awkward. We were served the food in a timely manner. I ordered the grain & tempeh bowl, which presented well and tasted okay, although I would have loved more tempeh cubes. The housemade chai tea latte was way too spicey for my taste, and I think there may have been a pinch of cayenne in it. When we finished our meal, we had to wait about 10 minutes to catch someone's eye so we could get a carry-out container. I'm not sure why this place is so popular. I do want to say, however, that the staff was friendly. read more

First, I would like to say this place looks really nice. The smells of the food was amazing. The customer service was super friendly and the pastry display made me wanna buy one of everything. I went in wanting a breakfast burrito and I had my typical breakfast burrito expectations but when I read the ingredients I noticed that they had sweet potato fries in this breakfast burrito. I'm not a fan of sweet potato fries, so I asked to substitute with regular fries. The cashier lady told me they don't do substitutions because they can't figure out the math on how to substitute certain items, so they just don't do substitutions. That was a disappointment for me because it's not that hard to swap out sweet potato fries for regular french fries, in a breakfast item, either way I ask for the breakfast burrito without sweet potato fries. I also asked about the cranberry scone, which looked amazing and she told me it was so I did. so long story short I ordered our items to go and the scone was amazing. That was the first thing I got as for the breakfast burrito I was not a fan. As you can see my images, the breakfast burrito looks super sloppy the beans sauce was dripping, which overpowered the eggs. The red peppers were nice and I'm not sure if it was nuts or the beans, but there was a crunchy item that just did not work for me. The cabbage green salad was not appetizing at all wasn't a fan of it smelled funny and I tried. It just wasn't for me. This was a very sloppy breakfast burrito and it felt lacking and I wouldn't order this again. But would I come back? Yes I would. I just won't be so adventurous with picking a breakfast dish and just pick a basic breakfast item. read more

Though there was a ~30 minute wait (for Saturday lunch), it was well worth it! The menu options all looked good, but I decided to go with Three Grain & Tempeh bowl. I've never had tempeh before, but it was warm, hearty, and perfect for a cold day. It was also very reasonably priced at $15.50 (before tax & tip). Though it was really busy, the inside was very warm & cozy. Overall, highly recommend! read more

Will definitely come back! This is an order and pay at the register, but they will come bring you your food. We ordered the following: Drinks: brown sugar macchiato, iced chai latte, margarita, drip coffee Food: grilled cheese, French toast Everything was absolutely delicious! The table was silent as everyone was enjoying their food! Icing on top of it all was one of the waitresses Natalie (blonde hair with pigtails this day!) Noticed my birthday glasses and surprises me with this little delicious dessert with a candle!!! The dessert was fantastic and it made my day! This place is a great quick stop and super tasty too :) read more
Margold Kitchen, just off the square; there's a reason there's a line out-the-door and down the street. This is a great breakfast spot at Pickney and Doty. The food is fast and fresh; and the place is bustling. Was in Madison for the weekend and it was so good, we went two days in a row. The service is fast and friendly, and the staff is (and has to be) on their toes. I recommend getting there early to avoid the wait. read more

First visit and loved it all! The service was great and the food was quick. Food was fresh tasting and not boring standard things I could make at home. The chilaquiles and guevos rancheros were our tables fav. My daughter had the avocado toast and she said it was yummy. We also split a jelly and peanut butter sugar cookie which I wish I would of gotten more. read more
Came back this month to this place and it didn't disappoint! It was a busy Sunday afternoon and had to wait like 5 mins to get a table. While waiting, I saw they have a brunch special so I tried that and it was absolutely delicious! Perfect portion. I wasn't expecting too much from the blackberry sage matcha latte but to my surprise, it was a nice, refreshing flavor. read more

Came on a weekend morning and it was packed! Service is to order at the counter and then find seating. I ended up getting the Guajillo Chicken which was packed with flavor and veggies. Friend ended up with the duck confit hash which needed slightly more salt but delicious flavor nonetheless. The mimosa was delicious and loved how they have small and large options. Will be back to try their baked goods and coffee! read more
One of the best brunch spots in Madison. I've never had a bad experience and the customer service is top notch. We ended up sitting outside right after it rained and one of the servers came out and offered to wipe everything down for us! Much appreciated. This was a perfect way to stave off a hangover! The hazelnut mocha was super creamy and delish! It could've been hotter for my liking but so pretty I did T want to drink it! Hue is rancheros were delicious and the omelet was so light and fluffy. So much to eat, we brought back half of the food to our AIRBNB for a later snack. Love the clean and bright atmosphere. First time here so I wasn't sure if the ordering process-- first come seating and place your order (pay ahead) at the counter. read more

This place was recommended to me for a trip to Madison. As soon as I got to the city I happened to walk by and saw the insanely long line outside. We had other things planned at the time and decided to come back later in hopes of a shorter line. Mission accomplished, we came back about an hour before closing to no line and went right up to the counter to order. I had the special of the day which was a red sauce chilaquiles. I always get my eggs over hard, hence the giant egg blanket in the picture hiding all the goodness underneath. This dish was phenomenal. Bursting with so much flavor and it had a kick of spice. I would come back in a heartbeat. The entire menu looks delicious. At the time I went, you order at the counter, pick a seat and a server comes out with your food when it's ready. The place was kept clean and bright. read more

They're back open finally!!! The decor is a bit updated, but it's still cute n cozy. For those who don't know, you order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. All the favorites are still in the menu (breakfast sammies, omelets, chilaquiles) and don't sleep on the specials board for fun features. Always a very solid breakfast/brunch/lunch choice-- and I LOVE that they serve breakfast all day. Happy this madtown staple is still here! read more

This was a really big disappointment for me! The space, vibe, staff are all very cool! But I'm here to eat a meal and hopefully get a good value. I ordered wrong, and I don't really feel that the burden should ever be on the customer to order "right". The restaurant should have the "right" dishes on the menu. Chili poached eggs is what I went with. I couldn't believe this tiny little appetizer sized dish, not even an actual plate, that came out. I was like really? That's it? I was so surprised. For 2 eggs, 1 piece of toast, a slice of (really chewy) prosciutto, and a teaspoon of machego cheese, it was $10. Seems like a $1.50 ingredient cost, not that I know for sure. Is it wrong to expect to leave feeling satisfied when paying someone to feed you? In my opinion this dish should be edited. There's probably other good stuff in the menu, I'm guessing, but unlikely I'll be back before leaving the area to discover it. My time being limited, there's other places I'd hit up. Also, the alcohol options Yelp predetermines we choose from don't describe the situation here. Yes, they serve alcohol, but not wine or beer, not a full bar. They had: Bloody Mary, mimosa, and screwdriver as the only options. read more
Marigold is a nice brunch spot to take your family and friends. Their menu is very unique with specialty seasonal items which changes things up! I enjoyed the ambiance which was quiet and bright. The rosemary toast and marigold potatoes steal the show. We came on Saturday from the farmers market and even though the line was long it moved so fast! We got 4 dishes (2 savory, 2 short stack pancakes) across 3 people which was the perfect amount of food. I LOVED the Citrus Ricotta Buckwheat Pancakes, but the Tart Cherry was a big hit with my friends. The Scrambler and Chilaquiles were also really good, but don't forget to order it with Rosemary Toast and Potatoes!! read more

Happy to come across this place. There's a lot of good things to say about it, including the breakfast (check out my photos). Things to improve on are: mention that the juice is not done in-house; loading dock in/out from the neighbours and the interference with the patio. read more

Marigold has always been a super consistently fantastic spot. I've missed it during COVID and finally made it back for a weekday breakfast. The reopened restaurant did not disappoint! I got the pumpkin cinnamon roll pancakes (on special) - WOW! Super soft, fluffy pancakes with a good level of pumpkin and cinnamon. I would have personally taken even more cream cheese topping, but that is me the sweet tooth! Bacon on the side was crispy and tasty, and the coffee hot and flavorful. It's a more pricey breakfast than some, but so so so good. I do think they took an item off the menu that I'll miss, which had prosciutto and spiced eggs...maybe that will make a reappearance? Miggy's Bakes available for a quick baked good, although I will also note I miss the old scones (I used to stop every day on the walk to work just to check whether the orange chocolate chip ones were available). Always a good atmosphere. It can get pretty loud and bustling especially on busy days, but they have good service to warm up your coffee and generally make one feel treated. read more
I can't believe I've lived in Madison for 3 years and have yet to come across this amazing gem!!! My best friend and I came here for my birthday brunch and have nothing but amazing things to say. We sat outside which was first come first serve and ordered our meal inside. They bring your food out to you and they have condiments at the table with a beautiful flower. The goat cheese omelet was so amazing. If you're a goat cheese fan this menu item is a must for you! The potato's were so well seasoned and flavorful. The breakfast burrito was also equally as good and came with a crunchy refreshing slaw. The wait staff also put lit candles on a stack of pancakes for me for my birthday which was so so sweet. I can't wait to come back! read more

This place is like a gem. I love the quiet to not so loud, ambiance and little cafe shop type. This is similar. It's not too big but not too small. It's clean and a good place to study. The food is so good, I'd come here for brunch with family and friends. I got the scrambler that comes with eggs, sausage, cheese, good stuff. You will love it as much as me. The buttermilk pancakes is *chef kiss*. They also have a self serve drink station, where you can get your own water and cup/s. Customer service is good and was treated well. read more
