My wife and I ordered beef taco's. 7 of them 3 for her and 4 for me. Originally $45.expensive, but expected from DoorDash. But then I get an email after the fact saying that due to my special instructions they are adding$25 to my order. What was this crazy request? "Just lettuce and cheese". An additional $3.50 per taco. The original price was $3.89 per taco. A small amount of lettuce and cheese costs nearly as much as a tortilla and 2 oz of ground beef?!? Well you got me! Good job. Wife and I walked in excited to try a new spot for us. Concerned that it was a Friday night and only 3 tables were taken (they have 15 tables I believe) We stayed nonetheless as reviews were great. We were greeted by who I think was a FOH manager or something like that, but our server did not greet us and just hit us with what can I get you to drink. Ok fine no time for pleasantries and straight to the point cool no problem. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks to get to us (this whole time there is maybe 3-4 tables taken, still empty) pre bottled drinks- a soda and a beer. We then waited another 15-20 minutes for our food (we ordered it at the same time as our drinks) while people who got in after us got served theirs first even after ordering after us. We get our food after an hour of getting there and it's cold...... Servers act like we're inconveniencing them. We didn't complain, we didn't throw a fit. didnt even drink my beer, asked for boxes, paid my tab (yes I tipped, I'm not a COMPLETE ahole) and left. Not coming back. Not recommending. read more

I've been to Maria's over several years. Food has always been good. Service is good as well. But recently something has changed and they quit serving alcohol. Was charged $161 for six tacos, then when tried to return it was charged again $161 for a total of $323. Called when realized then told not a good time to call. Waited over 10 minutes to get charged again while my food is getting cold. No hay we won't charge you for your order, just we are going to screw your bank account for a week. I have gone here a couple of times every time something is completely wrong. Will never go here again and I suggest you stay away. The star rating would not let me give it negative stars. They still owe me a large rice from last time they screwed up. read more

We got takeout from here for the first time and received excellent service !! The lady working was extremely nice and helpful. We got steak tacos and al pastor tacos. Along with a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were your average Mexican restaurant style and very good. Al pastor tacos were amazing !! Had a lot of crisp and flavor. The meat was Tiny bit dry though. Still were great. Steak tacos were ok. Lacking flavor and didn't have any char. More soft beef ? They just seemed off. Dyn. A. Mite! We've visited four times and the food has always been mouth wateringly good. The shrimp burrito dinner is heaven on a plate, and HUGE! Booth seats are not very comfortable, but frankly the food is so good that you don't even notice once it starts coming (and they're good for your posture!). Chips and salsa are complimentary. Drinks are good. There's a small gaming area to the side of the dining room for those inclined. My wife likes the machines and won around $400 dollars there (net), so they seem programmed generously. This is obviously a family enterprise staffed by Mom and kids as well as others. Prices are reasonable for this economy, no better or worse than others. Can't recommend it enough. I hope they're there until way past the day I die. read more

We have been to Maria's Mexican Restaurant a couple of times. The food is really good. The times we have been there, my wife always has the 3 taco dinner. She says they are always really good. I however will mix it up. I have had the Chilies Rellenos, and I have also had the Shrimp A La Diabla, and the last time we were there I had the Steak Burrito. All three dishes were awesome! We went here for the first time last night with some friends. I ordered the Taco Tuesday (2 tacos, rice and beans for $8.30) special. I ordered the seasoned pork tacos. Those were the best pork tacos I have EVER had! Nice tender pieces of pork that were generously seasoned. Rice and beans were good too, kinda hard to screw that up :) Margarita's were also good and our server was also good (didn't get his name). Everyone in our group seemed to like their food (steak tacos, chicken tacos and a burrito). We will definitely be going back here again. The decor of the place was great. read more

Tucked away in a strip mall, this is one little gem of a place! We were pleasantly surprised how varied the menu was, even though we were just looking to get tacos. We were fortunate they had a 3 taco plate with beans and rice as a special that day so we ordered 2 plates to go. It smelled delicious all the way home! The tacos were just FABULOUS (as were the beans and rice)! We look forward to going back to try their other dishes and will be making this our go to place for anything Mexican. Our complimentary chip basket came primarily filled with dry, broken chips, making us wonder whether our basket had just been dumped from an older basket into ours. They were definitely not fresh-cooked tortilla chips. While the service was friendly, she was the only one there and appeared to be a bit overworked, forcing my wife to get up and retrieve the salsa we'd asked for earlier. Their lengua taco was fantastic. Unfortunately, after eating it, I recall wishing I'd ordered the lengua burrito instead of the steak chimichanga, because the steak chimichanga was limp, seriously skimpy and incredibly salty. Was I paying so much for the tortilla shell and ranchero sauce? Not the worst Mexican food I've had, but I don't see us going back. read more

Under new ownership and Maria's is not what it used to be. Both the steak and chicken chimichanga's were dry, margaritas are out of a bottle and they did not have non-alcoholic beer, even though it is on the menu. (Doubt they need to 86 non-alcoholic beer!) Service was scattered and very inefficient and server did not know what club soda was, not to mention the order was incorrect. Menu needs updating and not just using Maria's old menu. Terrible customer service. Forgot half of our order. ($50 worth) Called them to let them know of the mistake. Woman we spoke to never apologized or even acknowledged the mistake. First said they didn't have any drivers so we'd have to come pick up the missing items. (We ordered in since the weather was bad) Then she said they tried to call us. No missed calls, not sure why she was saying they were trying to call. She kept saying they tried to call, when asked why she didn't give a response, asked for the number they called, she then changed her story again. Then she said we could call back Monday and resolve it?? (This was a Saturday) never received the missing items or a refund or even an acknowledgment of their mistake. In fox lake there are a few decent Mexican places near by, but this place just made it to the top of my go-to list. - super Friendly service! - The chips are not made in house and nothing special, but the salsa was really tasty. - Sample Appetizer was great. Perfect variety. - Steak and beef tacos were on point. Double corn tortillas. - Verde Pork - O.M.G. SO tender, TONS of sauce and just the right amount of heat. Delicious! - They use REAL queso, people! - They do offer liquor now, for anyone who was unsure. The only downfall for me is the chips, and in my opinion thats not worth losing a star over. I cannot confirm nor deny the previous two reviews because I did not order those dishes. Having said that, my husband and I tend to go for more authentic, and this restaurant has that. Homemade horchata, sopes, mole, etc. You get the idea. I am eating the tortilla soup, and it has chayote in it, and plenty of flavor. Authentic, despite the red and green tortillas in it. Haha I must admit I might be rating it higher because I'm happy to have a decent Mexican restaurant in our small little town. I want to see this family operated business survive, and it would not based on the previous two reviews. So if you come, dig deeper into the menu then just nachos or burritos. read more

I don't know what happened over night to Maria's. Was very disappointed today not only with the food but also the very poor service. Ordered to go same order as always the girl on the phone was very rude, and immature. We were told they don't make, and have never made a cheese quesadilla on corn tortilla, she was new. Also refused to ask the cooks and educate herself because they do in fact make them and they're usually amazing. She then wrote all over the containers with permanent marker which was also very weird. The food was bland today at best. Must be new management? Let me first tell you about my boyfriend: imagine Scrooge in 99 degree heat with a thorn stick in the middle of his flat foot. Nice, right?! Now let me tell you that he is also impressed by NOTHING. He could literally be served a perfectly cooked filet mignon (on the house) and would still find something wrong with it. Pleasant to take out in public, to say the, most fictitious, least. Anyways. He ordered take out from here, the carne asada, and legit tried to pimp me out to stop here to just kiss the chef as it was the most heavenly thing he's ever had. My boyfriend said this! What?! He texted: "That was the best carne asada I ever ate in my life" and then called and went on and on about it. The food here is pretty decent and service was good. It was a slow Sunday night, and there were about three other tables being used in the restaurant. The chips are not house made, but the salsa was yummy. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the portion was good, maybe a little big, but it tasted good, nothing to really rave about, but it wasn't horrible either. The small sides of guac, cheese and beans were fresh. I ordered a side of grilled jalepenos. That was delicious, perfectly salted and set my mouth en fuego!! My hubby got the enchiladas and all but licked the plate clean. If we were passing through, I would come again. Fresh delicious warm homemade chips would totally be a game changer. read more
