Buckeye Bakery - It should be illegal to make food this good, and here they are walking free among us

Buckeye Bakery - The Sweetest Shark Attack in Mansfield…read more Wandered into Buckeye Bakery on a mission for donuts... and walked out like a sugary Santa Claus. I picked up a dozen-mix of joy: Long Johns, glazed classics, cinnamon rolls (the kind that whisper "just like Mom used to make"), and pecan rolls that should come with a warning label: "May cause spontaneous joy." Dropped them off with friends and boom--gone in two days, like a Netflix binge with frosting. High praise was given. Teeth were thanked. Waistbands were stretched. But I didn't stop there. Oh no. I went full dessert diplomat and made a fast-follow with peanut butter cookies and some shark cookies, because hey--it's Shark Week, and nothing says "celebrating apex predators" like chomping into one made of sugar and love. Verdict: Donuts: Fluffy, fresh, and clearly baked by folks who take their carbs seriously. Cookies: Delicious and festive--like eating a holiday. Vibe: Old-school bakery charm with new-school treat game. Next time I'm in Mansfield, I'm diving back in. Sharks beware. I bite back.

My. Lord. First off, I'm not from here and took the Yelp…read morereviews to mean good breakfast and man, were they correct. I showed up, told the wonderful women behind the counter that I'm not from here (TX here on a 6 month job), that I have zero idea what anything is in their display case because nothing in Dallas looks this good and just pick me 6 of the best things they have. 3 of the 6 never made it back to my jobsite that's 10 minutes away. The raspberry Danish, the deep fried glazed ball of heaven and the chop suey never stood a chance in the truck with me. When I did make it back, my local subcontractor looked at the box, KNEW I went to Buckeye Bakery and said "You did good". Overall, they're about to make me gain 20 pounds and lose all my money. Thanks, I guess.

Johnsville Bakery - Cinnamon rolls with maple(my favorite) icing. Nice and light, very fresh.

This is a local bakery that I found out about because someone knows I like bakeries and heard about…read moreit from word of mouth. There is no website and no telephone. I suspect it is cash only because it is operated out of an Amish residence. The goodies are appropriately labeled "home produced". They are only open Friday and Saturday until 5. When do they open? Who knows. Maybe 9 is a safe time. My friend arrived around 11. My friend got us a package of 4 maple cinnamon buns for $4 and a small apple pie for $3.50. The cinnamon rolls were light and fluffy to eat even though the package was heavy. Hubby and I split a roll but we arent big eaters. Store bought ones are denser. I liked these better. The apple pie, well you are now up against my mom who was Hungarian. My family had apple trees with several kinds of pie apples. No one ever could make a better apple pie than mom although Costco, with its crunchy apples, comes the closest. Still not everyone likes crunchy apples and this pie was nicely presented....just not Mom's. So many are looking for a good amish bakery and amish goodies. It is hard to find these places when you rely on word of mouth. I heard they have good doughnuts and lemon bars but again there is no website or phone. So bring cash and be flexible. And and only open Friday and Saturday!
