Honestly the only thing I come here for are the donuts. I'm sure everything is great, but I don't live locally anymore so I don't concern myself with shopping here. Came here as a child to get donuts and still stop by as an adult when I'm in town. The bakery ladies are always super nice and a great selection. The grocery store itself is outfitted with a Bigby coffee as well which is nice if you want a drink while you shop or eat your pastries. read more

Bring cash and be hungry. These are some of the best raised donuts you will ever have. Come early because they sell out. I love the maple ones. Ambiance wise...it's a grocery store....but the parking is easy. The staff is all business and the selection isn't creative. But you don't need to when you nail the basics. read more

If we're being honest, Hawkins is more of a "I need this and they happen to be open" grocery & market than a "I can't wait to shop here" sort of place. I feel like I'm betraying something inherently "Ashland" by critiquing what is essentially the town's grocery establishment, but they've slipped a lot in the last decade. Or, perhaps it's simply that they've remained the same while the likes of Buehler's shook things up by introducing the town to Whole Foods-lite shopping (or something vaguely reminiscent of it). My beef is not with service (they still have folks who bag your groceries and take it to your car, along with a decent bakery that opens early for your before-sunrise donut needs), but rather, with pricing and selection. It may seem like I'm waving the Buehlers flag again, but if I'm going to pay the same amount for food at either place, I'd rather shop at the place with a better meat, seafood, vegetable, fruit, dairy, baked goods, wine, and beer selection, and Hawkins isn't it. In fact, they don't even stock the last two items at all. read more

I'm with Adam B. If I lived in Ashland this would not be my go-to grocery. I find selection limited with the exception of the bakery. A long time ago, I had an addiction to cream sticks and Hawkins was the place to get them. They are baked fresh daily and are delicious. If I recall correctly they even have a Buckeye flavor - you just can't beat the chocolate & peanut butter combination. Hawkins is great for a quick stop. Their prices are reasonable. They carry all the basics. However, if you are looking for a store with a huge selection and variety, this store will probably not fit the bill. read more

It's a nice place to go if you need something you forgot. I think the prices are totally crazy. My limited budget doesn't allow me to pay those ridiculous prices. On the plus side, I do like the dollar aisle. read more

I love Hawkins, yes it's a grocery store but it's still amazing. What blows other grocery stores out of the water is the bakery. I have yet to find better cookies or doughnuts anywhere. They are baked fresh daily and are always amazing. They have a great deli counter and all the cashiers are always friendly. Hawkins is part of a dying breed when it comes to grocery stores. They have bag boys who help you out to your car and load up your groceries. Even though I lived in Ashland for 20 some odd years going back after just a few years removed it still weirds me out because I've just become accustomed to carrying out my own stuff. I hope Hawkins survives and I think it will. Don't let the Wal-Marts of the world kill such an Ashland staple. read more

As far as grocery stores goes, this is one of my favorites for a few reasons: 1. They still do carry out 2. It's local 3. The meat is great! Butcher quality. 4. The most important, the bakery. Some of the best cookies, doughnuts, and cakes. Even their wedding cakes are not only super good, but beautiful and elegant. read more

Prices are not that great. Service is good. Bakery is AWESOME!!! I respect the fact that they don't carry booze. If you want booze, go to the Beer Barrel. As far as Buelors goes, they're expensive!!! read more

I love the fruit baskets the produce department prepares to your custom-order. They are great value for the money. You can order for any $$ amount and they do a great job without much instruction. I give these fruit baskets to friends for special occasions and at work to administrative assistants to show my appreciation. They are healthier and so much more convenient than almost any other material gift. Scott - the manager of the produce section, is absolutely a delight to work with. My friends and assistants say great things about the fruit in these baskets. read more
