I've been an at least yearly customer to Maria's since they were located on State Street in Media,PA and I've been coming to this location they moved to over 20 years ago equally as often. Honestly, since the formerly great unnamed bakery in the middle of Delaware County that I used to frequent has slid downhill I have become a more frequent visitor to Maria's Prime Time bakery. Donuts are always fresh. Cookies too and both are great. The breads I've tried reminded me of my great grandmother's homemade West Philly breads. I've had their cakes, Both layer and various sized sheetcakes for parties. All have been tasty, sweet and satisfying. The premises are clean and there are always enough staff to help. And that's a good thing because this place can get mobbed at times because it's good. Don't hesitate to place your trust in Maria's in ordering bakery items for that special event. You will be happy. I've driven by this place many times and finally decided to stop in. I'm glad I did, the girl working out front was very helpful and patient with me. The inside isn't much to look at, but what they have in the cases looked great! There were a lot of goodies to choose from, but I kept it simple. I went with double chocolate, chocolate chip and Reese's pieces cookies, brownies, peanut butter brownies, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and a large Bavarian pretzel shaped treat that tasted like black cherry chocolate heaven. Everything was delicious. The chocolate chip cookies were amazing, if you like the mini Entenmann's soft chocolate chip cookies you'll devour these. The pretzel shaped treat was soft, flaky and had great flavors. The brownie was very rich, chocolaty and soft, the PB brownie was a little dry, but had decent flavors. The doughnut selection was pretty much gone by 1pm, but the girl said if you call a day before they can make an order for you to pick up the next day. I decided to try Maria's Prime Time Bakery instead of going to Traub's like I usually do and I came out highly disappointed. I placed an order over the phone at 7am on October 17, 2022 for a triple chocolate cake with happy birthday mike written on it to pick up on November 4, 2022 (his birthday). I was told they need a deposit and prefer it in cash, so I went the same day as I placed the order around 4pm to give a cash deposit and I wound up just paying in full for the cake. Fast forward to today, November 4, my pick up date. I get there and give them my name and they can not find my cake or my order form. They take about 20 minutes to look for my order and cake, asked my name about 3 times and asked if it could be under another name. After about a half hour, they say they can't find my cake or order form. They offer me a chocolate on chocolate cake that was sitting in the refrigerator for another customer to pick up tomorrow. I said this is okay because I don't want to go home on his birthday empty handed, they quickly write happy birthday mike on it in sloppy, ugly, thick letters and do not decorate it after i ordered it decorated AND ordered a triple chocolate cake not chocolate on chocolate. They asked to see my receipt as they are looking to see who rung up the order on their register. As they're looking at the receipt, they mention that I was overcharged and are not sure where the cashier got the number from. So not only is my cake that I ordered not there, I was also highly overcharged for the cake I ordered. Well the icing on the cake (pun intended) is they then charged me FULL PRICE for the cake that they just took from another customer to give me after LOSING my order. I ended up paying the difference between the other customers cake that I was given and the cake that I order and was LOST. To me, that is horrible customer service that I was not offered a discount for my time, trouble and going home with a completely different cake that I hope he even likes with sloppy writing. In my opinion, the cake should've been free as you LOST MY ORDER and gave me a cake that was sitting in the fridge for a pick up tomorrow and didn't even match what I ordered. I will stick to going to Traub's and some advice for the business is you don't keep customers by just apologizing for losing their order and giving them a cake made for someone else that doesn't match their order, the cake really should've been free. read more

It is always hit or miss with Maria's. Cakes are a 50/50 proposition and so are the majority of baked goods. You are just as likely to bring home dry cupcakes and pastries as fresh one. The exception would be the donuts, which are always on point because they make so few of them in relation to demand. I appreciate the counter staff, who try their best to be pleasant in tight quarters. They bump into each other frequently on busy mornings while working in a narrow galley. Some are still masking and the store has a policy of three customers max inside the store. I respect their choice but it seems to irritate a lot of their clientele. I have been a customer since the Cake Box days but can't say I' will be back unless I'm in a bind. I will miss the donuts but now that they are $24 a dozen, there is no way to justify the calories. read more

After living in South Philly most of my life, I thought I would have been disappointed with the bakeries in Delaware County. When I first went to Maria's, they were immediately friendly and outgoing. Everything I ever ordered from Maria's bakery was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly. The food is good and you always get a friendly service with a smile. I am so glad that I live down the street from the bakery especially when I am entertaining at my house and I need dessert. read more

We got an apple pie here, and when I say it was nothing like I've ever had before, I truly mean it. Upon opening the box and sniffing the pie, I could identify, VERY STRONGLY, the scent of donuts. Yes, donuts. The pie smelled like a vanilla cream donut, but it was packed with apples. It was really delicious, but I have to deduct one star simply because I could absolutely feel myself getting fatter and fatter and fatter with every bite. In order to make this stuff so good they must have to put pounds of lard and butter and sugar into their recipes. Unfortunately I will never spend another single penny of my hard earned money in this local buisness since they have decided to force customers to wear a mask, although other businesses are not at this time. I had a very interesting experience with the staff this Easter weekend picking up an order my girlfriend placed and pre paid this week. If it was my order I would have taken a refund went on my way. Upon pulling in the parking lot I noticed about 10 people standing outside waiting to enter. The line was formed due to their rule of only allowing 3 customers at a time to enter. This was stated on the door along with another sign that stated that masks were mandatory with no exceptions. There was also a third posting of a note to the customers from the owner stating that this is what they are doing at this time, and if your children are under 5 they are permitted to enter & they do not have to wear a face covering. The children under 5 is what got me. During my at least 20min wait there were at least 3 children permitted in. None wearing masks. I have nothing at all against children. I have kids & spoil my nieces and nephews. If you want to require masks then EVERYONE "remember no exceptions" should be wearing one. The problem I see is discrimination against people who can not or choose not to wear a face mask for whatever reason that is not anyone else's buisness other than their own period. When my time came to enter I was swiftly greeted with a do you have a face mask. I responded that I did in my vehicle, and a second employee chimed in to offer me a mask from their supply.  I swiftly declined. I told them I not going to wear a face mask. I was picking up an order for my girlfriend, & I would like to add to it as well. I was told without the face covering I would have to do buisness outside. I decided to decline on spending a penny more than we already did at this point, gave them the name on the order, & told them I would wait outside for what was paid for & I would spend my hard earned money elsewhere. I manage a local small buisness that has been open every day for the last 2 years & I refuse to treat my customers this way. I work hard for my money, so does my girlfriend, as does everyone else. With that being said I would hope that with 2 years into this mess of covid that people would have the common sense and knowledge of what to do and how to do it. I did receive our bread. I was respectfully vocal in my decision. I politely wished everyone inside & outside a Happy Easter & let everyone know I was going to try Traubs to see if I was going to be forced to wear a face covering to enter. I even got a thumbs up from a older couple at the back of the line along with happy holiday wishes from everyone Because of your decision to force anyone over the age of 5 to wear a mask, Traubs who is Smile Friendly and Polite as always, got my buisness. I Support local businesses that do not discriminate & force you to wear a mask to enter and do buisness. Shout out to the thumbs up gentlemen and his wife that followed me to Traubs! read more

The butter cake, strawberry shortcakes (we got a mini size for $4.25 in the refrigerated case) and cookies are all delicious. The service from the 2 young ladies was great, too. Very unpleasant experience. We were recommended to our wedding venue to check out this bakery( it was one of the bakeries we could choose from for our wedding cake). We made the appointment 3 MONTHS ahead of time ( in November) and when I called THEM the day before ( in February) because I had not heard from them, I called to confirm( we lived over an hour from our wedding venue). After being shifted to various people on the phone because they didn't remember the appointment , I was told they would call me back. When the owner or wedding baker called me back, she was extremely rude and after the way she spoke with me, it was obvious that this is NOT someone who is willing to make sure we have a great wedding experience. I've tried multiple bakeries in Delco and this one is my fav. The split cream donuts are some of the best I've ever had and their other pastries are always on point. I was so disappointed after stopping in the bakery today. The prices were high, choices were very basic, I could tell they are not moving product. One chocolate pie, some eclairs, cut up strawberry shortcake slices in the frig. The cookies were very odd looking, different sizes and shapes, the ones for $10 bucks per pound looked like a hot mess, jelly everywhere! The cupcakes I bought were dry and they ranged in sizes. Some were simply overbaked with a little icing and some smaller with more icing. They were "decorated" so haphazardly I would think a teenager made them. This is not the first time I was really unhappy and shocked at what used to be a great bakery. I thought the new owner needed some time...but time is not helping. There is little product to choose from, that is decorated in a messy way, and the prices are ridiculous for what your getting. read more

I stopped in to Maria's to get some chocolaty goodness for my boyfriend's birthday. I have to say that I really appreciate a bakery that's open later in the day so I can go after work (open until 8 pm Monday - Saturday). The woman who helped me was extremely helpful and friendly, especially because I wanted chocolate things that were nut-free due to an allergy. I ended up with a some cannolis, two cupcakes, and a pastry shell that was filled with some sort of chocolate cake. Everything I got was tasty and extremely reasonable in price. Most definitely a FAN of the Apple fritters. I'm a Old-fashioned APPLE dessert fanatic, and I got turned on to Maria's one day while working at this Health Insurance Co. in the city. The supervisor brought them in along w/ other pastries (white powdered donuts w/ cream, etc) and at first I wasn't going to try them.....generally I don't do pastries for morning snack ;-) Then she yelled out, "Make sure you try the Apple fritters before they are all gone".....my mouth watered, and I said "Oooh apple fritters" LOL. So she got me and so did the apple fritter, soft and moist w/ a touch of glaze covering it w/ small apple bits inside. I'm quivering inside, it was SOOOO good!!! Glad I tried it, and I had to ask her where she got them from and she turned me on. YAY!!! So now I share w/ large groups of friends, in my Dance and Nursing community and they LOVE me for it. Maria's doughnuts are hands down the best. The cream doughnuts are addicting and the jelly doughnuts use real jelly not the pasty fake junk. They are always fresh and reasonably priced (cheaper than those fake DD doughnuts). I would 100% recommend this bakery for doughnuts. I would also recommend their chocolate chocolate cake.
