Odered takeout and had to wait 15 minutes past the pick up time. "THE Gladiator" was a complete mess. The bottom was very soggy, which is a first.

Okay so if you're used to NYC or NJ pizza, this isn't it. Get that out of the way first and foremost. Now that you've done that...this place is really good. On this trip we got the loaded cheese sticks, cheesesteak pizza, and the taste of Italy pizza The cheese sticks were good. Basically like a smaller pizza unsauced topped with cheese, bacon, and jalapeno with sauce on the side. It was a nice combo and they were crispy. The cheesesteak pizza was very good. Huge pie and even though the dough is not like the city at all, I still really enjoy it. It's not like the difference between NYC pizza to Chicago or anything that drastic...it's just different. A ton of cheesesteak meat and other toppings. The Tasty of Italy also had really good flavor. There were A LOT of sun dried tomatoes on this one. I know many people who would be thrilled about that, I took probably half of them off. Still a very good pie. We have been back since, i'll write an update soon. Got some different things that time around.

I've never eaten indoors because we always pass as we're on our way elsewhere. My brother often orders pizzas and these pepperoni roll things. They're pretty good! I don't recall the pizza much but the pepperoni roll (pictured) I enjoyed! $17 for 2 of them. I would like to stop by and dine in one day to see what it's like. They tell us 25 minute wait for our to go order but was there in less than 15 minutes and picked our order up right away.

Alright guys, this is the pizza I have been dreaming about ever since... and no I am never this dramatic about pizza haha it was just that good! This is from Mariano's pizza in Luling and it certainly is worth the stop if you are around. This is the Florenza pizza with alfredo sauce, spinach, artichoke hearts, and feta with added shrimp! And boy was it filling! The crust was, in my opinion, perfectly cooked and loaded with topping and garlicky buttery shrimp Enough about the pizza I also got a dirty martini which was very strong! According to the people at the bar, all their drinks are strong lol. The eggplant medallion was a great appetizer but the eggplant were tough. Ohh and all this was $26!! Yea it was a great meal. Will be back!

This place was pretty amazing...from service to food they hit every angle. The flavors are bold and the servings are large. I was extremely happy with everything. I'll come back again while I'm in town. Definitely recommend.

Right off hwy 90 is this jewel of a restaurant! On our visit there was plenty of parking, no wait getting a table and we were able to order within minutes of being seated. We started with the Meatball Bake & Stuffed Mushroom Appetizers. Both were delivered to the table piping hot and were delicious and savory in every way! For entrees we shared the Chicken Parmesan Calzone and a Shrimp Florentine Wrap. Both were also brought to us smoking hot from the oven! The wrap was actually two wraps which made it perfect for sharing and the Calzone was huge.. All the food here was surprisingly authored Italian with large portions that left us satisfied. I highly recommend Mariano's Italian Eatery! Oh forgot to mention, they have two big picnic tables for outside seating!

And the cannolis... WOW. Fresh, homemade, and the BEST we've ever had. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and on point all night. Service was top notch from start to finish. The atmosphere has a cool speakeasy vibe, and they even have a beautiful upstairs space for weddings, parties, and events. 5 We've eaten a lot of the menu here and have NEVER had a bad meal. GENDUSA'S is our GO-TO for the best Italian food around! If you love Italian food... GO. You'll thank me later.

Great Italian food but not so great pizza…read more Gendusa's is pretty solidly dependable (very) local Italian restaurant in downtown Kenner. It's right on Williams in Rivertown, so there's plenty of parking. It's a popular place, so expect to wait 15-30 minutes most nights. Inside it's a gaudy mess that takes its theming from mafia movies. Hokey and tacky but you're not there for the interior design, so it's fine. It's very family friendly but sometimes too much so in that there are often kids running around playing next to your table, doing splits on the floor, or just banging on stuff and acting up, and since there don't seem to be managers around ever, no one tells the bad kids' bad parents to act right or leave. Food wise it's typical southern Italian food. Good flavor and well cooked. Portions are decent and not out of line with the pricing. A better value than most Italian restaurants for sure. Where Gendusa's repeatedly falls flat though is with their pizza. They try. You can tell they do because they're using high quality ingredients and they don't skimp on toppings. The crust could be better but it's not bad. The sauce has a good flavor but they barely put any of it on the pizza. Even if you ask for heavy sauce the only place you can see any of it is right near the perimeter. Without enough sauce and with a not so flavorful crust, the taste of the pizza is pretty much just that of the toppings. The toppings, though, is where their pizzas really fail. As mentioned above, they do use high quality toppings and they give you lots of them. But, the toppings are never cooked right! They're either all basically raw / uncooked, or if you're lucky, the toppings at the very top will be nicely cooked on the very top surface, but nothing below that very top surface bit of oven exposure is ever done. In fact, every time I've gotten a pizza there, most every topping has been still room temperature even when the rest of the pizza is too hot to eat. Gendusa's clearly know how to cook, but they don't seem to know how to cook pizza. They know how to make a pizza. They just don't know to cook that pizza. My guess is they need to cook their pizzas at a lower temperature for a much longer time...long enough so that every single topping at every level gets fully cooked all the way through...and only then maybe move the pizza over to higher heat to give the crust and such a good finish. Check out the photos below. You can see how the sausage on the very top got nice and done as did the edges of the ham, but the pepperoni and such below is cool to the touch and entirely uncooked. If Gendusa's can fix this, they'll have some solid pizza to go with their great Italian food. I hope they troubleshoot and make improvements.

The burrata comes out: dreadful, awful, call the Vatican levels of bad. The pesto was the culprit, I know store bought vs house made pesto and this store bought stuff needs to be banished from the establishment. Tasted soapy and overpowered any flavor from the burrata. Then the entrees: the Italian flatbread was pretty good, after I panicked making sure pesto wasn't on it (it wasn't) I really enjoyed the charcuterie characters of this. Then my date tried her chicken parm and said "you have to try this". I take a bite expecting horror; I'm proven wildly wrong. That chicken Parmesan is the greatest in the city limits. I may not hear from the date again, but Sophie's heard from me again. I got their chicken parm once again less than a week later and they proved that lightning can strike twice. So let's unpack Sophie's. And Italian/seafood joint - their specialty? THEY KNOW HOW TO FRY. Their red gravy is pretty solid too. I think they should sway one way or the other, focus on what they are experts at, and make a massive name for themselves perfecting these dishes they are already great at. And please, throw out the pesto. Sophie's SQUEAKS by into 4 star with a 7.95/10. TAKE WHAT YALL ARE GOOD AT AND IMPROVE. I've been back already, I'll be back again. Cheers!

Even at 6:00 on a Thursday evening it was nice to see quite a few tables occupied but it wasn't packed thankfully. The bar seats were mostly occupied with what looked like regulars so that's always a good sign too. We were seated at a table near the bar and so the bartender was also our waitress. She was also waiting on other tables in the area and for that reason I think she was a bit overextended. She was attentive but always rushing and really no personal service to speak of. We never did get bread plates and didn't have an opportunity to ask for any unfortunately. The breadsticks were brought out first, way before the meal, and weren't anything special. We each ate half of one and no more. My dinner came with a salad so that came out first. Tasty and fresh, and just an everyday side salad. Our meals arrived and at first glance, there just wasn't anything special about them. I'm not sure what I was expecting really, except with the price point I thought there would be a nicer presentation. The eggplant parmesan was cooked nicely but we were never offered any cheese and for lack of a better description, it was like something I would throw together at home, not a restaurant meal. My friend's food did not look appetizing on the plate, again, like a home cooked meal and not restaurant quality. The potato had been in the warming oven for a while it seemed, not fluffy any longer and the salmon was way overcooked and dry. I won't be giving this spot another go. Some folks here seem to like it but it's just not the quality I look for when dining out.
