This Mariano's is always a nightmare. Today, the Monday before Thanksgiving was no exception. The store was crowded (4:00-5:00), and there were only 2 checkout lines open, so the lines to checkout stretched far down the aisles. The shelves are a mess, the frozen food section was in such disarray, I was unable ascertain prices. But the worst part was a man pushing a poor sickly, shaking dog in a shopping cart around the store. The thought of getting that shopping cart will definitely keep us from ever returning to this horribly mismanaged store. read more

I haven't visited this location much since it opened but I was especially craving sushi so I said what the heck and decided to try it since I had recently seen an advertisement for their platters. Needless to say I love the sushi options! They're a little on the expensive side but the chef present at the time, Rodolfo, was able to help me choose a roll (I got the rainbow roll and another which I forgot the name but was so good! Smoked something). Super super helpful and very talented at his craft. However Mariano's customer service is really lacking on the front end during checkout. I had some unattentive teenager more interested in talking to his coworker than actually ringing me up... I literally could have just walked out. He couldn't pay attention to me long enough to even wait for my receipt to print before TURNING his back on me to speak to coworkers. And when asked for a bag he opened it for me and tossed my food in. Stop hiring 17 year olds who can barely do the job they're hired for. Waste of time and looks bad for the company. read more

My husband kept telling me that the salad bar and hot food bar at this location is better than at our Skokie store, and tonight he took me there to see for myself. He was right! The salad bar was freshly stocked and clean. Ours is always messy and not well maintained. In fact someone was wiping the sides down when we got there. As far as the hot food bar, First if all this location has 2! Why? We only have 1, and when items are gone, they're generally gone. Here, everything was well stocked and looked great, whereas ours always looks nasty. If you go past 6 or 7 pm, you can forget it. Everything is picked over and the little food that remains looks dried out and unappetizing. There's clearly a difference in the management! We actually met the store director and the hot food bar manager and we gave them our feedback. Both were very nice and appreciative. This store also has a larger bakery selection and the seafood looked awesome! The rest of the store looked neat and tidy like ours does, but if we're wanting hot, prepared foods, it'll definitely be worth the drive out here. read more

Let me start by saying that this is my store and these are my people. I shop here regularly, use the salad bar, eat sushi, use the electronic coupons and purchase some delicious power juices once in a while. Today (04.11.19) however, caught me off-guard. There was a line at the deli - not unusual, but only one person working - very unusual. A man in a orange jacket was rubbing his face/nose and then opening the window compartments, reaching in, and touching various items inside. The deli employee allowed this behavior on (at least) three occasions! I know almost all of the deli folks, but not this one. The gentleman next to me was so disgusted he said he would mention this to management. I decided, for the time ever, to forgo my deli purchase as well. At check-out, with a sparse amount of items, I asked for a manager and two ladies said they would relay any concerns I had to the MOD. I explained the situation, with great concern for cross-contamination, and was told another person also made a complaint. Then I was told that someone was going over to the deli department to "talk with her". That's it. No changing out of products. No concerns about cross-contamination. Lastly, I was told by an employee that they "cutting back on employees", hence the reason of only one employee on duty at the counter. read more

This store is awful in every way. Deli counter is a joke, not enough staff, low quality produce that has very little shelf life left. The worst part is that today they only had two cashiers and there we 5-6 people lined up for each line down the isles and everyone jammed in trying to use the self check out wobbly no distancing. Speaking of distancing, there is none in the entire store and the staff is the worst. Never did this before but I left my cart which was completely full and I walked out because it was not safe! read more

I just moved to the north shore and was told Mariano's was the "go to" market for high end products and organic products. I tried calling 6 times and was put on hold each time with NEVER a response. Honestly? I can't wait to come back again! In fact, I'm so happy with this location I am actually going to register my Mariano's card (and I never register my store cards). I'm a huge Mariano's fan. I've shopped their Vernon Hills and Northfield locations, and I'll say this one is my new favorite and most like the one in Vernon Hills IMO. But, it's brand spanking new and ginormous, and with the stupid walking boot on my foot, I didn't feel crowded or claustrophobic making my way around the store. Roomy aisles with something I wanted to buy in each one, the large cheese section was my favorite stop, and this is where I learned about the 200lb. cheese rounds from the cheese guy. Upon walking in the store, the entire place smelled like bacon. They must have known I was coming on an empty stomach, and they did a great job of getting me over to the hot food bar where I was enticed by the fried chicken. I grabbed a bunch for us to take home, and it ended up being light and flaky crispy with a seasoning so good I actually got my kiddos to eat everything! The hot food bar, even after normal dinner hours, was fresh and well-stocked. It seemed far superior to another one I typically go to that just doesn't stay fresh after regular dinner hours. The produce section didn't seem as large as the other locations, but maybe it's because the store is just so large that it seemed small. Yes, there is only a small organic section as mentioned in the other reviews, but we brought home strawberries, blueberries and grapes that were all tasty and fresh for a bargain. The meat section is mind-blowing in size. I cut out beef awhile ago and have only cheated a couple of times, but after seeing the fresh steaks, I think even a vegetarian might be tempted. Extensive beer selection with a self-serve walk in cooler was a nice unexpected surprise. Heck, just get here... there is so much! It's huge but not sparse, and we bought a ton of food for $65! read more

O M G. The deli is a nightmare. Today as expected there were huge crowds due to an impending storms. Guess how many working deli? Between 1 and 2 workers. Moving very slowly. I pulled a 66 and they were on 42 and it took every bit of 40 minutes of waiting. There is no excuse for this. A few times when I have had to call there it has taken 15 minutes to get a person on a line with an answer. I am going to have to go back to the one I first started with. Elston Avenue. read more

What a grocery store! It took me a while to visit a Marianos store when I first move to Chicago area... I was used to go to Walmart and that was what I kept doing for a while. But thanks God I decided to give this store a chance and since than I never went back to Walmart. They may be a little bit more expensive but the quality, environment and employees worth it. The best fruit and vegetables you will find here! Including organics and always fresh. Meats and seafood is also another high point here, they are always fresh and with a huge variety. Employees are always willing to help you anytime you need assistance. You can also enroll for the Marianos program and have discount on several selected products (it changes every week but you can check and load the promotions into your account thorough their website). read more

Wow, I thought that my home-base Mariano's in Ravenswood was large, but this new location is even more palatial. Cavernous. Commodious. Colossal. The main advantage of enormity, of course, is breadth and depth of selection. This Mariano's is so monumental that it has TWO "Tastes of the World" aisles! In addition, take note of the profusion of beer: both the prepackaged and the make-your-own-sixpack offerings exceed even some Binny's. I've found beers here that I've never seen anywhere else. Actually, not every section seems super-sized. For example, the produce area seems normal-sized, not noticeably large. However, they managed to fit in a trail mix bar which is kind of a gimmick but still kind of sweet too. Other unique elements include an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting station (eye roll) and a long half-aisle of large-scale goods such as cereal, packaged snacks, cocoa mix, Nutella, and paper products. That is actually a nice feature if you happen to find something for which you desire a large quantity; there are good deals to be had in that aisle. Another feather in the cap here is the hot food bar: not only are all options clearly labelled, but they are also kept freshly stocked throughout the dinner period. Frustratingly, neither of those standards is typically upheld at other Mariano's. The hot food quality is hit or miss, but I've tried several soups and most are very good, most notably the potato bacon and the tuscan white bean & kale. In the morning I sometimes dash in for a smoothie. They have several delicious options under 150 calories. This is a great lazy person's method of getting a few servings of fruits and vegetables. I've never had to wait for more than one customer in front of me (~7:45); sometimes, I practically have the entire store and parking lot to myself. The one drawback to this location is the evening crowd. At Ravenswood, it can get pretty busy at peak times, but there are nothing but well behaved yuppies as far as the eye can see. Here, the 5 o'clock hour is a mad rush and there are many--que horror!--children and old people who swing my pet-peeve needle rapidly back and forth between manic chaos-making and insensate traffic-blocking. Don't they understand that when I come to Mariano's after work, it's to pick up a few things QUICKLY and then get the hell out?? Actually, sometimes it's to pick up a few things quickly, and sometimes it's to wander the store for half an hour, trying to decide among all of the numerous fresh and tasty options for that evening's dinner, and the next day's lunch, and weekend breakfasts...and so on. read more

I love this Mariano's store. This is the first time that I brought my kids here since it opened and they loved it as much as I did. We each had a gelato(pistachio, ferrero, banana nut flavors) and we ate them while browsing and shopping. They have a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, candies, wines, beers, cheese, and just almost everything! The aisles are wide enough to push our cart around, the items are well stocked, organized and labeled. Overall, the store is clean, complete and organized! read more

I am very happy with Mariano's, so happy that I thought I'd write a review based on my recent experience purchasing a cake in their bakery. I purchased a half sheet cake, which I pre-ordered 48 hours in advance, for my daughter's birthday. The baker followed my directions wonderfully and the cake was so delicious. The buttercream was delicious to the point that I had multiple pieces, and I don't even like cake. The cake cost $38 (1/2 sheet) and was the perfect size for the party that I held, which was for about 20 people. Please note that Mariano's website suggests that the 1/4 sheet cake would be enough for 20 people, but the 1/4 sheet was very small. Additionally, I love the place for everything they have to offer. We eat there for dinner quite often and get their ice cream at the gelato stand, as well. I would highly recommend the Caprese pizza, which they bake right then and there for you in about 10 minutes. It has balsamic sauce on it and is incredible. I eat the whole thing on my own. Usually there is a deal for a small pizza and a Coke for about five dollars. The ice cream is good, two and you can usually get it for about $3.50 for a small dish (two scoops). I get the peanut butter cup flavor, which is so good and peanut buttery. The ice cream is so light and tasty and perfect for any occasion. The store is so nice and clean and user-friendly. I feel like they have more selection, especially since I am a vegetarian and have trouble finding some of the more unique MorningStar products. Mariano's has a lot of vegetarian frozen entrées and entrées for people who go gluten-free, more so than Target or Jewel. Overall, five stars. read more

Marianos has the quality and selection of Whole Foods, without emptying your wallet! Outstanding! Marianos is rapidly expanding in the Chicago area, and for good reason. The owners and management have hit upon an ideal formula and have figured out how to run a grocery store and make their customers excited to shop there. Where to begin? How about the piano music at the front entrance? Puts one in the mood to shop. How about a large produce department, stocked with a huge variety of fresh fruits and veggies? A meat department unparalleled in variety and quality. I was pleasantly surprised to see buffalo meat. I was shocked, in a good way, that they had venison. And alligator? Wow! The frozen food department is outrageous! Just about every kind of frozen food is represented, and many top notch brands are available too! Don't feel like cooking? No worries. There's a tremendous selection of prepared foods waiting in the deli department. Cheese? Yes, please! A selection that rivals many local stand alone delicatessens! Wine with your cheese? Top notch selection of imported and domestic varieties right around the corner. Pharmacy, cleaning supplies, imported foods, bakery...it's as if a Farmers Market merged with a Walgreens, a Binny's, a couple of international specialty grocers, a food court, a Trader Joe's, and a Jewel. (Jewel, by the way, should be very concerned about Marianos. VERY concerned.) Prices are reasonable for the myriad of products available. The in-store brand, Roundy's, is reasonably priced and comparable to the major brands. The staff is friendly and helpful. Shelves are frequently restocked. The store layout is efficient. Aisles are wide. The store is impeccably clean. The downside is that I don't live close to any of their locations, but that's only temporary. Another location is under construction and by mid summer it will be practically walking distance from my home. Can't wait! Bravo, Marianos! Bravo! read more

A weird layout to the store with all the food service area on one side of the store. At the bakery you can wait 5 minutes with no one else needing service but you and 5 people behind the counter and not one asks if you need help. I ALWAYS have to say excuse me, can I get help? The butcher area somewhat like that but with crabby men working there. I do have to say that their sushi area is fabulous and fresh and helpful. That's what keeps me coming back to this store. Otherwise I'd go elsewhere. Even their fruits and vegetables aren't as fresh as they use to be Now as of January 9,2019 I couldn't be more spot on with this review. I told the manager their grapes were mushy, cherries wrinkled and cantaloupes soft. Got none of the fruit I wanted and again at the bakery with 5 people around I had to say excuse me. Only the sushi is worth going there. Better than any other Mariano's read more

They have a decent selection but my main reason for the loss of stars is their fresh food bar. At least half of the time something I put in my box to eat for lunch is stale to the point of fermenting! For example, right now I am eating a salad with baby corn. The baby corn tastes so sour I can put it to my nose and smell the rot! They should have someone test everything they put out because putting rotten food out for consumption is not only disgusting but it's probably illegal as well. read more

I'm a big fan of this location! The staff are all friendly, nice options and service is great. I was especially impressed today when my husband and I decided to grab a quick bite for lunch. I couldn't decide what I wanted and I meandered over to the sushi area and found a King Crab Maki! It was a surprise to see a roll like this at Mariano's, but an even better surprise was how good the King Crab Maki tasted. Yumm! The roll has bits of seared tuna and green peppers (or jalepeno with no seeds because it wasn't hot) inside with king crab on top, roe and a sweet soy sauce. Kudos to the sushi chef! read more

This is a new location so I expected some kinks to be worked out and some problems to arise. I have been to this location 5 times since it opened. Random times for random things, but always to the deli and meat/seafood counter. I love the Arlington Heights store. I go there all the time on the weekends so I'm spoiled by the stellar service from this location. The Glenview one opened and I was excited! It's on my way home so I can just run in, get last minute things, get home quickly, and make dinner for the family. Awesome right? If you want to spend 45 minutes grocery shopping for 5 things, this is your location! I park and get out of my car at 4:52. Deli - the people behind the counter need retraining. They can't remember your order, can't get it right, and call numbers so softly you'll miss it if you blink causing eye rolls and dirty looks from the staff and other customers waiting. I order one pound of Krakus Ham, thin sliced. The person slicing my order takes a bit to find the ham. Starts slicing and weighs it. 1/4 lb. How much do you want? One pound. 1/3 lb. How much do you want? One pound still. You want it thick cut right (as the scale says .80 lbs)? At this point I just want to leave the area. Slice, slice, slice ... Now it weighs 1.26 lbs. It's a little over and proceeds to remove ham, one slice at a time, until it says 1.03 lbs. Phew! I head to Meat/Seafood and wait. A bearded man in a full beard net calls my number. I hold up my ticket saying here. He is standing by the sausage area. He waves me over to him. I wave him over to me. He waves me to him. Kind of a bad game since I'm standing in front of the steaks and veal. I wouldn't even begin to be able to describe what I need from the sausage area since I need steaks. He finally walks to me, sighs, and says "what did you need?" I point to the $9.99/lb boneless ribeye steaks and tell him I need 4. He gets 4 of the $17.99/lb ribeyes. I tell him "sorry, it's the ones on sale please." He asks me "Are you sure?" Ummm... I'm thinking unless I'm getting those for $9.99/lb, I am 1,000% sure! Instead I say "yes, I'm sure." Now I'm done with waiting. Off to self serve areas - baking potatoes, shredded cheese, and eggs. Head to check out and back in the car at 5:38. So much for a quick run in for a few items. I will not be back at this location for a while unless I have time to kill or just want aggravation because I miss it. I'm sticking to the AH location. read more

They hit you with the wow factor as soon as you walk in the door and most is within eye shot - gelato/smoothie bar, sushi bar, chocolate/popcorn bar, and it goes on and on. Not a very productive place to come to hungry. The rest of it is pretty much Walmart-like. Huge and crowded, everybody getting their feed on. This was a nice addition to the neighborhood and the apartments next door went up REALLY fast. I am especially intrigued to monitor because I suspect the exact same is going up in my neck of the woods in Northbrook. In the same space I noted the addition of a brand new Go Roma location, that was a surprise. Also noted that they had a good price on Bulleit $27, it is normally 31/32. Cheers! read more

I don't think Mariano's grill station people in glenview understand the word customer service. I go up to the grill station and ask, "so how does this work?" there was a guy standing about five feet behind the counter. He completely ignored me!!!! Then a woman came over. I thought she was going to answer my question. NO! She came over to turn the piece of meat on the grill. Didn't say a word to me!!!! I will go back in about four to five hours. Hopefully there will be a shift change. Hopefully if there is a shift change the new employees will be much better at customer service. read more

Watch Prices! Each trip to the store results in pricing issues in Produce. Signs don't match what will ring at the register. Just Yesterday, I found an error and went to the desk, waited and then got the difference. When I got home I found 2 bags of lettuce rang too high. I missed it, and I know to be on top of this issue. Don't get their cornbread ever. I went to get soup and bought their cornbread as well, and as we were eating I found that there was mold growing on the lid where the top of the cornbread was had stuck on the lid. Please don't ever get their cornbread. In the photo, it's the white specks on the lid. More than the customer service (no apology), this is a health risk, so I thought that people should be aware. Love Mariano's and this location! Customer service has always been on point, and I'm not shy asking questions! Produce is fresh, well-presented, and there's a great variety. There have been a few times they've been out of something, such as cubed and bagged sweet potatoes, and when I've inquired, someone always happily looks in the back for me. Usually if they aren't out front they are out of stock, and the last time I was there the gentleman working in produce the laced an order for the exact kind of potatoes I was looking for and told me when they'd be back in stock. I have ordered cakes for the past two family occasions and have received so many compliments that I think this will be our new go-to bakery! Great place! read more

This review is specifically for the 6-inch CHOCOLATE EXPLOSION cake ($11.99) at the Mariano's on Golf and Waukegan in Glenview. The people behind the counter claim this to be their best seller. Mariano's was the ultimate grocery store a few years back. Now it's about the same a Jewel and a notch above Walmart. Produce section is absolutely awful. Rotten produce and empty shelves. Center aisles are now filled with shippers customers run into or have to navigate around. Deli section may just be the worst in the entire country. Manager of this section avoids customers like the plague. She actually fills the to go deli section as customers wait to be served. Restrooms are dirty and they no longer fill the disinfectant soap outside the restroom doors. Express lanes are rarely open as the company almost forces customers to use self checkout. So sad to see my favorite grocery store of all time turn into this average place to shop. read more

Couldn't agree more with some of the other reviews. Prices are frequently different at the register than advertised and employees seem annoyed when you point it out. Frequently out of stock on items. Today they had no fried chicken legs, no pulled pork, and no cherries (on sale) and that was three of the four things I went in to purchase. Food stations are frequently unmanned or I stand there waiting to get noticed. Act like they are doing me a favor by waiting on me. I use to enjoy shopping at Mariano's now you mine as well as turn it into a Kroger. read more

Sometimes they have everything on my list but a lot of the times they are "out" of something and still get charged and still get the item, got told sternly most of my items were out of stock today and orders need to be over $35 for curbside... nothing in their app says anything anything about an order needing to be over that amount and had a friend go to the same store an hour after and said they had all the items. Do not do curbside/drive up if you actually want what you order or only have a small list even if you want to limit your covid exposure. read more

This is a review of Marianos in Glenview, IL at Golf and Waukegan Rd. We watch these Six things, so should you: 1) Overcharged in every single shopping trip. Usually produce....the computer does not match the price on the sign. Every trip, we wind up at the manager's desk. Every. Single. Trip. 2) The baggers: No joke, some of these guys laugh as they drop canned goods and heavy items on top of your bread or bananas. Who places bread at the bottom of a paper bag, then drops 1/2 gallons of milk on top? Marianos in Glenview does! 3) The cashiers: Some of them enter in random codes for products because they just don't know or care. One time we were overcharged $32 because they entered in a code for some exotic spice rather than for cashews. Cashews! "Uh, what is this?" It's a dragon fruit... 4) Out of date merchandise. Don't believe me? Look at the SELL BY dates on the Chobani yogurt. Some are a month out of date. 5) Pastry/Bake shop....about 1 out of every 3 times I walk past, some employee is chowing down on something! They eat fast- shoving cookies, cakes, bread slices or what have you into their mouths. Disgusting. 6) Their pizza uses the most acidic pizza sauce on earth. Frozen pizza tastes better. And there is a real grumpy guy who works pizza- sometimes he is at the BBQ station. I think he hates saying "No- can't do that." Then he runs away, not to be seen for a couple minutes. I actually feel badly for him. Despite all this- this is WAY better than the Marionos in Skokie at Touhy and McCormick. The meat department staff at the Glenview location are fast, friendly, and smart. So are the produce guys. (The staff at the Skokie location should be attacked by pit bulls.) Oh yeah, and "Have a good one." is not an acceptable substitute for "Thanks." read more

First the pleasant: Went to Customer Service, and Abby helped me in a flash. Needed a refund as I was charged three times for a fairly bulky expensive item, of which I had only bought 2. Abby listened to my explanation, looked at the receipt, and corrected the transaction on the spot. Now, the gripe: Had two of the same, larger, fairly expensive items in my cart. Left one at the bottom of the cart in the section where you slide in bulkier boxes. Put the other on the belt. My cashier, Sandra, was basically finished with the customer ahead of me. As we were waiting for the gentleman in front of me to position the last of his bags in his cart, I caught Sandra's eye, and mentioned that I have two of the items. Up goes her hand, palm outwards, and I get a "Wait. I have to concentrate on the customer in front of you." Sandra rings up my other purchases on the belt, and gets to the last item, one of the two items described previously. She tells me that of course she would have noticed I had another in my cart. Why did I have to tell her?? (All in "jest" from her side of course). After getting home I review my receipt, which in turn necessitates me returning to the store for Gabby to help me at Customer Service. I was charged for three of the items, of which I only had 2. This after I tried to politely make sure Sandra was aware that I had 2. Lovely. read more

I'm done with this location. As mush as I try to avoid going to our nearest Mariano's, sometimes it still happens and I regret it instantly. Besides the fact that their produce isn't the freshest and more often than not I bring home half rotten tomatoes or mold covered strawberries, the thing that frustrates me the most Is the forgetfulness of the cashiers and the people who assist with bagging. Today someone "forgot" to put in my cart a whole 4lbs chicken. And I asked if I can bag my own groceries in my own reusable bags. No, they offered to help , and then the line was moving too quickly, they had people coming to check ID, the area got crowded and I left with bunch of wrong items and without my chicken. That poor orphan must have been so excited to leave the cooler and finally go home with someone , and now they will have to strip her naked and bring back on the shelf. I'm specifically writing this review based on my interaction with the pharmacy. I scheduled a Covid booster, arrived early, was helped early, and the pharmacist, Sunny, was so nice.
