Very clean, wide aisles, and fast checkout. Loved the deli meats and variety of seasonings. A staple for the Polish community and more.

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. You can find all kinds of things for the house or to gift someone whether it's food, a cookie jar, something imported from Italy, or a homemade meal. You'll find something for everyone.

The selection of shelved goods, many many many imported, is delightful and I really love shopping there. We've used them for premade trays of pasta dishes and more that have graced our entertainment table. Always Delish!! I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

The woman behind the counter was so rude answering my questions about the sausages and the pork. My questions were as simple as are they garlicky or ready to eat, instead of if I have to cook it first. so rude to a point she threw the sausages and meat on the counter, not at me. ( All of this were in their surveillance cameras). I was pissed to say the least so I told the cashier that she was acting like a bitch to me. He is a young man understand English perfectly what I was saying but the older guy came to the front the back and tried to intimidate be and telling me "be careful" over and over v Maybe a language problem, but I took it as a threat so I asked the cashier what is the guy meant by "be careful" to me. The casher didn't answer me but they were speaking to each other in polish and something like they called the police. So I have no choice but to protect my self, I had to stay there until the police came. I had to called 911 too to make sure my side is explained. NOW is MORE of my problem/dilemmas. Two police officers who last name Ki or ski showed up and I explained my side to one of them and they said I was angry and need to bring it down a notch. They took down my ID and put down their story at their discretion. One talked to me in English and the other one talk to the people inside and claimed to watched the video. I don't want you to read into anything like they read in to and perceives me as a problem because I was pissed of the woman and being told "be careful " But if you read into their last names like they read into me, you can imagine how they communicated in the languages they spoke and which side of the story they obviously took despite the establishment's surveillance video. For a 24 years US Navy veteran like me with 16 years civil service for 40 years total National Service, its almost like no whistle/no foul. But I felt this establishment is a total f-you for any Americans. To two police officers who were also polish and not being transparent to me is a sad state of affairs for city of Niles and America. The Niles motto used to be "where people counts". Not so much now. I don't even know if there was a police report or if I would be trespassed. Either way, be warned to visit this place unless you are polish. I could return the merchandise and ask for refunds but I didn't want to go back in and deal with them once the police were called.

In a world where most spots are jacking up prices while lowering quality, this place is sticking to the New York gold standard. The line is a total marathon. You're going to wait, and it's going to be a while--but that's the tax you pay for food that actually has a soul. Don't let the deli line distract you. It's white noise. Stay focused on the bagels, the bialys, and the accoutrements. The breakfast sandwich is, hands down, the best in town. Period. It's simple, inexpensive, and lacks any of that "cheap filler" logic you see at other breakfast joints. It's just a masterclass in doing the basics with real care. If you have the patience to survive the wait, you won't find a better return on your investment.
