This is the best full service butcher in the area. For Christmas Eve we got a 10lb 4 bone-in standing rib roast. The meat was beautiful. The preparation was incredible. Perfect trimming of the fat. The bones were cut away from the meat and tied back together. It was incredible!!! For Christmas we got a 7lb beef tenderloin. Incredible. It was prepared with a thin layer of fat around the meat. Here's the thing Hey Glenview you have choices there are a few other places in the area where you can go get some prime beef. I want you to consider this My New York strip had a thin piece of fat on the back like it should unlike some other places locally who cut it thicker so it weighs more but you don't get as much meat. Growing up in the area, I missed out on Reagan meats. This is 100 percent my fault. But I'm willing to make up for it, just on the first day of trying the meat from here. I drove back a second time to get more meat for dinner. First off, thank you fellow Yelpers! The main reason we went her was based on your reviews. Now lets get down to business: The service is second to none. The two different people who helped us, were willing to explain things and give ideas. Which is great! So far my favorite is the marinated skirt steak. We tried all three kinds of kabob and a marinated top sirloin steak, and a beer can chicken all in one day. This coming up weekend I will be trying more meats from here, and will do a second review! read more

Reagan Meats is a fantastic meat shop. There's nothing fancy going on here. Just fresh amazing quality meat which you can buy either fresh or frozen. Reagan's sells only Prime beef dry-aged for 21 days (the best!). Like many meat shops, they also sell frozen tins of lasagna, meatballs, mac 'n cheese and other prepared dishes. Not only is the meat always outstanding, so is the service!!! Not only the beef tenderloin, but I get my turkeys & hams @ Reagan's and my guests tell me they have never had better. We've been coming here for years, every Thanksgiving, just for the Mrs. Cohen's beef brisket. It is excellent. Very tasty, tender to a fault, just a delight to serve on turkey day. It is a must if you live near, and well worth going out of your way, if not. read more

Got the aged Cowboy Steak (ribeye). It is high end steak restaurant quality, just superb. Smoked it for about 25 minutes @250 until the internal temp read 110 degrees. Then got the grill super hot and put the steak directly over the charcoals for 2 minutes a side searing/charing the outside. Pull it off the grill, temperature read 120. Covered it with foil for 5 minutes (should have waited another 5 minutes, it was still dripping wet) and cut into the most perfect medium rare steak I have ever grilled. read more

Elegance in Meats in Northbrook recently closed so I am in the process of finding a new butcher. Reagan Meats is the first place I have tried and it was very good. The store isn't particularly large, but they have a good selection of prepared dishes and fresh meats. The frozen section was quite large with many different options. I bought three whole chickens and the quality was excellent, cooked well and tasted great. Although I haven't gotten anything else, it was my first visit, the quality for all items appears to be high. As expected, the prices were higher than at a grocery store, but the quality is superior. Added bonus, if you want the meat cut/prepared in a certain way they will do it for you. I got my chickens spatchcocked at no additional charge. Going to check out some other butchers, but will come back to Raegan Meats. read more

Was looking for a place that didn't just order pre-cut meats from somewhere else. Called and went to a few places to look for picanha, but no one carried it or they wouldn't "order" it. Called Reagan Meats and they knew exactly what I wanted and told me they would cut it and have it ready for me the following day. Sure enough it was ready and I was finally able to cook it last night. Absolutely delicious. The gentleman at the counter was very helpful and they have all kinds of meat on hand along with ingredients to help you prepare them. Will definitely be buying from them again. Got a 40 day aged ribeye steak and it was by far the best steak I ever ate! I cooked it on the grill over hickey chips on the slow roll and wow is all I can say! Every bite was tender and juicy!! I was gonna save some for tomorrow but it never happened I couldn't stop eating it! It even tasted good cold.I will be returning for more most definitely!!! The unassuming store front sits along busy Waukegan road neighboring other tiny stores in the strip. If you do not watch carefully you may miss the drive into the parking lot. The place itself is small but the aromas and delicious scents are huge and inviting. The tantalizing meats roasting behind the doors makes your mouth water upon first entering. You know someone is busy cooking back there and can easily recall a past memory of mom in her apron at home. I had been a fan of this place even before I set foot into the B&M store. Previous hosts and hostesses have served me a plate of the the famous brisket. I had heard similar stories of the brisket being fork tender after roasting in the oven for hours. The brisket comes in a disposable tin, already seasoned and spiced with directions on how to cook and how long to cook depending on weight of the meat. I decided to put my own apron on and serve the brisket at a family party. Took a tip from the young butcher/apprentice (?) to add some veggies in the last hour of roasting and.... 'Voila...Christmas (add on) dinner entree.' You had to get it while it was hot because seconds for this dish were a no go unless you wanted to have at it with the roasted veggies that were left. A couple tips: The meat is frozen when buying (so for some meat aficianados this may not fly...but taste and quality were not hastened). I called first to make sure I did not have to preorder and the polite staff told me to come on in. I reduced the sauce that the meat cooks in before serving and added a wee bit more salt. I may also roast the veggies on their own next time. Meat prices ranged $45 - $55 dollars for each Brisket pan. Enjoy! read more

I had a hamburger from Reagan at the Glenview Sidewalk Sale/Summer festival, whatever it is called now. It was probably the best hamburger I have ever had. On December 23rd I stopped into the store to purchase Prime Beef Tenderloin for $22/lb. I called and verified the store still had this available and the man who answered said there was plenty. When I arrived the young man behind the counter said I had to purchase 5 pounds and there was no way to cut it. I only wanted 2 -2 1/2 pounds. I asked to see the beef in the case and he showed me the cuts where I discovered a 2 1/2 pound piece. Nowhere in their ad, or on the phone when I called, was I informed of the 5 pound minimum. 1. I feel the sales person was trying to cheat me because clearly there were smaller pieces. Since when can a butcher not cut meat. 2. The store was engulfed in cigarette smoke which I find offensive in this day and age. I was at the butcher not a singles bar in the 80's. I am saddened by these two facts. I hope this is not the new generation of Reagan Meats. read more

I have purchased the marinated steaks, skirt steak and sausages at Reagan Meats and have never had a bad meal. If your grandma has a special family recipe for sausages, you can bring it in and special order your sausages made with grandma's recipe. Also, their sausages have way less fat than the sausages you get at the regular grocery stores. read more

First off the place isn't cheap so you expect a great cut of meat. Nope that's not the case with this place. The prime rib was loaded with fat all around it and not including the eye. Also we had several nerves running thru the entire cut. Which made the meat hard for slicing and even worse for chewing. Seriously I've had prime and this was not prime! Also you would think the roast would of have some uniform shape for even cooking. The butcher had it cut one side big and the other side small. Never again! read more

i saw this shop on the way to North Brook whole foods, and I stopped in to give it a try. I was lucky that I did. They have knowledgeable and very friendly owners and employees, excellent quality meats especially for the price, and they have everything from the traditional stuff (ribeyes, filets, etc.) to USDA prime skirt steaks to whole 20 lb. ribeyes to boneless duck breasts (with or without the skin!). i came in looking for a whole uncut ribeye (~20 lb. that i wanted to dry age) and duck breasts on another occasion. they had all of it and i couldn't find it anywhere else. the marbling on the meats were excellent, and on average the prices are ~$3/lb cheaper than at whole foods for the same cut. definitely a one stop shop for any kind of meat or poultry or even smoked salmon which I saw them doing in the back. You can also call in for a special cut if you want one. read more

I've lived a block away for 2 years, and finally walked into Reagan Meats. It's definitely unassuming, but reminds of the butcher shops I used to go to with my father when I was a kid. I first had the honey glazed ham for Easter, which had a great flavor and I've been coming back regularly ever since. Highly recommended. We've been going to Reagan Meats for over 15 years. When we moved from Glenview to Buffalo Grove in 2003 we tried the local butcher shop here a few times. The quality could not even come close to that of Reagan and we've never waste our money there again. Since then, we drive all the way back to Glenview every few weeks and stock up at Reagan.
