Homestead Meats is one of our favorite butcher shops. We first visited Homestead Meats last year. We noticed that they carried beef bacon, so we thought we would pick up some while we were in town. Turns out that was the best beef bacon that we have ever had. So when we knew we would be back in town, we thought we would place an order for some more beef bacon. I called and spoke to Ehran who is also the owner. I was hoping to order about 10 pounds of beef bacon. Ehran explained that they work with small batches with products from local farms and while he could prepare an order that size, he would need more time. So we settled on having a few pounds put aside. When we arrived at Homestead Meats, they had our bacon ready. It was vacuum sealed and ready for us to take home. Even though they were running low on product due to the holidays, they still had some beef bacon in their case. So we decided to pick up another pound of bacon, some sausages, and beef jerky. Everything looked really good and there are several options to select from including cheeses, stocks and cooking essentials. We loaded up our cooler and look forward to doing that again next time we are in town.

I really like Homestead Meats. I used to go inside, but now I call in my order and do curbside pickup. They are very helpful and knowledgeable and willing to order anything I want. It feels good to support a local shop.

I almost did not want to write this... I don't want it to get overrun! From the few times I have been here I have been delighted with the quality of the meats, authenticity of the prepared products, preparations, and the owner. I took home a slice of the the Country Pate. It was replete, with boiled egg centered inside each slice and the flavor was sublime... how you want a pate to taste... simple yet complex. And there was the Merguez Lamb Sausage with it's hints of spice (cumin, paprika?, garlic, etc)... all the flavors were spot-on and in balance. I picked up some Bacon as well. They offered a rosemary and a smoked, I got both. They are simply some of the best bacon I have ever had. Yes, its bacon and any bacon is good... No, this is the real thing and is leagues better than anything else I have had. They also have a Guanciale that I will be going back to try... The owner is really nice and seems to be dedicated to delivering small scale, locally sourced (from farm to shop), and honest ingredients. He spoke of knowing the farmers and how they raise the animals... What more can you ask from a butcher/deli? Too much to say about their philosophy and all that, you can check out their Facebook page for more details and you can Google about their former "E & P Meats" history. Okay... you get the point, awesome place!

I've been making brisket forever and the one I bought from them was the best one ever. Excellent quality.

I checked Yelp and ordered from Hofherr Meat based on the stellar reviews. I often peek into Hofherr Meat when walking into Shred415 so was excited to finally try it! About 2 days before I was telling a friend where i got my turkey and she asked me how i plan to cook it. Cook it?? It literally had not occurred to me that my turkey would be raw. If it's not obvious from this review and ALL my restaurant reviews the kitchen is not where I shine. I called Hofherr to ask if they could cook my turkey and while apparently they do that it was too late to put in the request. Good to know for next time. Wednesday morning I joined the rest of the North Shore to pick up my raw turkey. I ran into a friend while waiting for it who is more of an expert when it comes to making turkeys and she asked them to give me gravy, a turkey bag (apparently easier and lessy messy to cook in a bag) and some directions. The next day I followed their directions along with some help from my bestie chatgpt. I stuck it in the oven and crossed my fingers we wouldn't be going without a turkey this thanksgsiving. We had a little mishap when the thermometer melted into the turkey (oops), but besides that it really wasn't too difficult of a process. And while I had trouble eating a turkey after seeing it raw my family was thrilled that it was perfectly moist and praised my turkey making skills. I did have a few bites and did think it was pretty good- and i dont even like turkey. I would definitely get my turkey from here again, although next time i'll be ordering a cooked turkey out of convenience. But for those of you who like to cook a turkey I recommend them!

Ellengee Market has been here it seems forever. Nestled next to the Metra tracks just north of the car wash. I've purchased 5 products over the past 7 months from Ellengee Market;Hot Dogs,Burgers,Gyros,Meatballs and Cheddar Jalapeno Beef brats. The hot dogs are the Eisenberg brand;skinless all beef, 8/1(8 to a pound) These are quite tasty, they remind me of David Berg yet a 10# box will be $10 cheaper than Vienna Beef. Or you can get a 5# bag;40 hot dogs enclosed. Next up was the burgers. Frozen;4/1 cooks without shrinking with a little fat which is needed when cooking burgers. And tasty as well. And for beef a very good price. If you want to make gyros at home purchase the 5# box of pre-sliced gyros meat. About 120 slices in the box and 4-5 slices will be enough to make your gyros with. The Fontanini cooked italian meatballs are quite good. I purchased the 5# 1 &1/2" ones that are perfect for sandwiches or pasta. All that's needed is a little sauce to cook them in. Made with pork and beef. Lastly the Jalapeno cheddar beef brats. Large and good by themselves or with mustard. And there are many other products as well. Each week the price list is updated which can be found on their website. Credit cards or Cash. If you want to pay wholesale prices without a membership give Ellengee Market a try. https://ellengeemarket.com/
