I'm not sure why it's taking me this long to put a Yelp review for Harrison's however I've been shopping at Harrison's for over three decades now and this place is an institution. If you're new to the suburbs are new to the area this is where you go to get your poultry chicken, turkey, etc. type needs. It is so popular that during Thanksgiving, for example and all the holidays you can expect to see Glenview police helping to direct traffic into their tiny parking lot. What's great though about them is that you can call them and put in your orders ahead of time by actually speaking to a human being who takes your order and then come in and actually pick up your order from a real human being. This type of traditional business is something I really love and glad it still exists here in Glenview. Everything they sell here is top quality poultry, and this is the go to. They have everything you could possibly think of and will just about customize and meet any of your required needs. I hope they stay around for another hundred years or more because this is the way meat buying should be. read more

Not only is their chicken yummy their eggs are special. First of all, they are golden orangish yellow and taste better than any eggs I've bought at any grocery store. I bought regular eggs after I bought Harrison's eggs, and was disappointed. Harrison's is the best place to shop for chicken as well. They have chicken tenders up to whole chickens. And lots of good frozen goods. Try their t frozen turkey gravy. It's so good I use like gravy on rice, potatoes, and noodles. So yummy!!!! read more

I'm only sad I waited so long to come here. A true poultry butcher. I buy my chickens whole, but they can provide specific cuts or parts (I went with my neighbor who wanted backs & necks for soup). They also sell eggs and some dairy (butter, cheese), as well as food items from local restaurants. And you can place online orders for pickup too. read more

Went there today to buy frozen items. Waited at the counter several minutes with my items. I was the only one waiting. A woman came in and lined up behind me. Then a young man came in and took a number. The man behind the counter knew I was the only one waiting for a while, but called 72 and the young man came up. Then to make matters worse, the woman behind me grabbed 73 knowing full well I was there before her. I calmly took 74, put my items on the counter with number 74 on top of them and left. I'm sure their business will do just fine without me, but I will not go back. read more

Quality is great, but this place is expensive. 2nd time here and I got 2lbs of chicken breast. Skinless, boneless 2lbs was $22. They said they weigh with the bone and skin to get the price, then de skin and debone to get the cutt I want. Which I get but $22 for 2lbs is too much in my opinion. read more

This is the second thanksgiving we've gotten our turkey here. Yeah, you'll pay more than the crappy turkey you'll find in the supermarket. But it is worth it! Free range, antibiotic free and delicious! A ton of people come here for their birds and the lines can be long, but the staff have it down to a science and you won't wait as long as you think. Besides turkeys, they have all kinds of other meats, spices, sauces and other fun things to try. This will be our go-to turkey place for years to come. read more

Poor service. We've been saying for years we need to try this place. We arrived 7:30 AM the day before Thanksgiving to get a turkey we ordered weeks before, a 16-20#. The next choice on the website was 20-24#. They brought out a 16# and girl at the counter kept saying they weren't allowed to give us the larger 20#. Mom and I tried to explain the website wouldn't let us specifically select 20# and we had 8 people coming. The girl just stood smugly and said repeatedly they weren't allowed to give us a larger turkey. One of the 15 others behind the counter who were loudly taking selfies overhead us and volunteered to go in the back and find a larger turkey. He hardly spoke English but was kinder than the robot girl who couldn't care less. 5 minutes later he came out with a 19 1/2#. The high costing turkey didn't taste any better than a butterball. But it's the poor service that wont bring us back. read more

We needed a rooster. Bf was on a mission to create Coq au vin and against my plea to use a hen, rooster aka capon, it was - for recipe authenticity of course. After much yelp research to find "the" best poultry farm, Harrison's looked like the clear winner. We phoned first to inquire on the rooster. Was it fresh and how many lbs. Yes, the chickens offered are fresh contrary to some reviews. All questions were nicely answered. We arrived into a spacious, nicely organized and very clean store. Although I found the smell to be off putting, sort of like walking into a dog kennel (best way I can describe it). I had to lift my blouse to my nose - but I may be more sensitive to odors than others as bf said he had no issue with it and commented that it was a 'clean' scent. He's been around farms more than I have, clearly. Really nice guys behind the counter and helpful. We asked for the smallest one and on average capons are 7-8 lbs. We weren't gonna find anything smaller. We asked him to cut it and for around $22, we happily left. I think that's a fair price. Harrison's offers to cook your choice of meat for you, if you don't feel like it. They offer FRESH chickens, duck, turkey, cornish hens, ribs, sausage, duck bacon, pork, beef, eggs and butter. Various house made stuffings for your bird. Marinated meats ready for your pan or grill. A small selection of seasonings, sauces and sides. Sizeable frozen offerings such as duck and pheasant, soups, gravies and prepared meals. The quality of our bird was beyond our expectations. My first time having a male bird - I'll say it was slightly gamey which was expected. Wish I would've picked up some eggs, but I'm already planning another trip. Looking forward to trying their turkey this year.. Highly recommend these guys. Great shop. read more

Their fresh turkeys (never frozen) definitely saved our Thanksgiving. It's juicy (doesn't hurt to still brine it) and if you overcook it (based on real testimony!), it'd still come out very moist and delicious. During Covid, they follow all guidelines for social distancing and we felt very safe picking our turkey up for Thanksgiving. Decided to get my 2021 Thanksgiving turkey from Harrison's since I always have trouble finding one small enough at the chain stores. They didn't disappoint. Other than the long line on Tuesday (I got my turkey in 30 minutes), everything turned out great. I used the Traeger orange brine and turkey rub kit from the ACE down the street. This combo cooked in my Pit Barrel Cooker with a few chunks of cherry wood yielded one of the best turkeys I have ever made or eaten, period. Thanks, Harrison's! read more

My mom loves coming here and getting chicken. She often buys extra for me or sometimes asks me to get some for her if I am in the area. I have to agree with her the chicken here is really good. Our favorite are little ready to bake in the oven poultry dishes such as Stuffed Chicken lean breast with sage stuffing. So easy to make for dinner. I do not particularly like the smell of the store. It smells like blood and bleach but it is a poultry store....Ok if I think too much about it I will become a vegetarian. My new go-to place for my Thanksgiving turkey and other fresh poultry. This is actually the second year in a row I got my turkey here. Last year's turkey was outstanding. Apparently, lots of other people think so too. I learned, from last year, to get to the shop early and avoid the crowds. Glad I did this year. I arrived 15 minutes before they were scheduled to open, and it was still busy. Fortunately, they opened early and accommodated me, and the other customers, quickly. I was out the door with my pre-ordered 15 lb. bird in less than 10 minutes. I also bought some necks and wings to make stock. The shop is clean, well-stocked with all kinds of flying, edible creatures, and there are some really friendly, helpful people behind the counter. Highly recommend! read more

If you want fresh, free-range poultry, this is the way to go! It is more expensive but the creatures had better lives and the food is far more natural than your average grocery store meats. The only downside is that the smell is off-putting (very fresh/stuffy smell) but that's part of the price you pay. I have always wanted to try brining a turkey, but you need to buy a bird that is not pre-basted, broth-injected, or kosher (all of these options already have salt added). That leaves out almost every turkey available from Dominick's or Jewel. I had been to Harrison's in the past, for such things as eggs and pheasant, so I was sure they would have a fresh, natural turkey. Ordering on the phone was a little terrifying - the guy who answered just said "Size?" "Name?" and basically hung up. For the 10 days until Thanksgiving I wondered and worried if I would arrive and they would say "Order? What order?" And when I did arrive on Wednesday it was a madhouse there, of course. People were clamoring and hollering and carrying out giant orders. Luckily, as I walked in, an employee just happened to be right there and so said "need help?" and lo and behold my turkey was there! It worked out to be about $2.29/lb which is a little steep, but I figured I was getting a far higher quality of bird than a Butterball or Jennie-O. But IMO brining made a HUGE difference in the look and taste at the end. I would definitely recommend getting a fresh turkey, there is none of that irritating defrosting and no preservatives or chemicals added. Plus, if you can deal with the sort of no nonsense way about this place, you can also get a lot of hard to find items such as quail or squab. read more

A word of warning: once you try Harrison's chicken you can NEVER eat grocery store chicken again. The chicken is always fresh and tender. I came to Harrison's a few years back as the chicken breasts in the store were ginormous and not very tasty. Also, the individually wrapped frozen chicken breasts quite often "rubbery" and difficult to chew. I learned that this is due to the manufacture's slicing the ginormous breasts the wrong way (apparently they try to make two normal size breasts out of one ginormous breast). At Harrison's the breasts are average size and even the color is richer than those in the grocery. The staff is friendly and the store sells locally made sauces, marinades, honey, ect. read more

What an amazing Thanksgiving with the perfect 23 pound turkey at the center! I'm not a cook so I followed the Harrison's recipe and it was a huge hit. Moist and just delicious. I panicked on Thursday morning when I couldn't find the giblets and the neck was frozen. I wrote to Harrison's through their website (Thanksgiving morning) and they answered immediately! Found out the birds need to be stored at 27 degrees but don't freeze and that the giblets are under the skin at the front of the bird. Lessons learned! This place rocks. The best fresh poultry I have ever had. Chicken, turkey, yes, so good. They're so good in fact, every year we set several reminders to make sure we get our Thanksgiving fresh turkey order placed in healthy advance. We do not want to miss out. It's a small shop and a wee funky smelling inside but don't let either of those deter you. You must get your poultry here. Fresh eggs, they have butter, seasonings, a frozen section with gravy and schmaltz....a one stop bird shop. Best of all is their customer service. Came back to Harrison Farms since we stopped buying from them for a while (tried going vegan) and must say was greatly dissatisfied. Chicken is the same poor quality as any other in the supermarket! I remember superior chicken quality, but the capon we got was previously frozen, but more than that it had a funky smell and bones that turned black and you can just press the meat a bit with a finger and it will freely go through the meat with no resistance! Not worth a higher price in my opinion. read more

Great place to get any type of poultry. There is a good combination of fresh poultry that is cut to order, large selection of prepared frozen dishes and a decent amount of sauces and marinades. My g-ma comes here often, its a little out of the way for me but totally worth it. The folks behind the counter are always very patient (even though you can tell they're super busy) with my indecisiveness (legs or thigh? bone in or not?). The chicken is far superior than anything you can get at the store, juicy with lots of flavor, even after its frozen.
