A Chicago gem. No one has better poultry than Harrison's, no one. My family have been buying chickens, turkeys and ducks from these fine people for decades and it won't end soon. Long live Harrison's! read more

Harrison's is a great place. Spring fever is in the air here in the Chicago area. What better way to celebrate a rainy day then "beer can" chiken. After looking for a place to by some free range birds I stopped in this weekend for a chicken. Jim who was behind the counter took the time to go into the back room to get me just the chicken I was after. While he was wrapping up my chicken I looked around. Harrison's has a wide array of items: Local honey, rabbit, quail, Schmeisser patties, as well as a whole wall of rice and spices. I had my chicken on the grill within 30 minutes of Jim wrapping it up for me. Thanks to the spice house in Evanston and their Greektown "Billygoat" seasoning, two lemons, and some olive oil and a cleaned out diet coke can I made short work of smoking the bird with some hickory. About an hour later I was ready to eat. The meat was tender and tasty. I know where I'll be going for my poultry needs! read more

Unbelievable how organized & efficient everyone was today to pick up turkeys. It's always good, but with these COVID restrictions I thought I would be there forever. As usual plenty of helpful & pleasant staff members. I was in & out in no time. Great place & the best poultry read more

I have been going to Harrisons for 32 years. We are officially "chicken snobs" because of it! They have the VERY best quality poultry. The owners are wonderful people and all of the employees are very professional! It is pristine and many of the pre prepared meals are excellent as well. LOVE this place!!! read more

On Jan. 12, 2019 my wife and I went there to buy a goose. She wants to create her own dishes and asked for: fresh, no feathers (but all intestines in) goose. They had shown us a frozen, plastic cover goose. She said no and repeated: I want fresh, no feathers only (all intestines in) goose. We were told it will be there on Monday. Monday - silence. On Tuesday: "it is in". I went over there and.......was shown a frozen, plastic covered goose. I asked 2 guys: is it fresh, no feathers only (all intestines in) goose? 2 guys answered: YES! It was probably the very same goose I've seen 3 days before... I gave up, paid $77 and left vowing never to come back. It is enough....because: In Dec. 2015 I purchased there "a fresh capon". Same story: "do you have a fresh capon? YES!" At home we found in a capon, the castrated rooster, some small eggs.... read more

I have to agree with Donna O. They're AWESOME! I've never been here before (but have seen it as I passed by the area many times through the years, and I have had their chicken before when Dragon Inn North still existed as they used Harrison's chicken for their dishes and it was really good chicken). I have been to their website a few times and looked over the online "menu" for items I might be interested in, but never got up the courage to actually call them up to order anything. Then I saw a few weeks ago on their website that they were taking orders for turkeys for Thanksgiving. I called them up and asked some questions, such as do I have to order a full turkey, or can I just get one of the turkey breasts. They told me I can just do a turkey breast, and I can even get one of the marinated and stuffed ones, so that's what I did! I ordered the mushroom and wild rice stuffed turkey breast as I'm alone this year (thanks Covid) and don't need a whole turkey. I showed up yesterday (Wednesday) to pick up my turkey and found the whole process interesting but efficient, and was rather surprised more people weren't there to pick stuff up (I guess I'm just one of the few who wanted to wait and pick up everything the night before); not that it wasn't busy. There were people constantly coming and going, even at 4 in the afternoon. They had a special tent up outside with those movie rope/tape things and two very nice young ladies to check your name off the list, and take your temperature before letting you inside. Once inside, I was greeted by a very nice young man (OK, I should just say that EVERYONE working there is just wonderful!) who took the little piece of paper with my order on it, and before he disappeared to go get it for me, I asked if it was possible to get some extra stuffing because the apple cranberry stuffing sounded good and well, it's Thanksgiving and that sounded like something I should have as part of my meal. He went to check to see if they had any and they did, so they put some in a bag for me, and loaded my order up, and I added a couple of things they had on the metal shelves at the front of the store. I asked some additional questions (like how to cook the turkey breast. This is all new to me. I don't really cook. I'm used to either doing frozen meals, takeout, or sandwiches, and maybe once in a while making soup or spaghetti sauce. But things such as cooking chicken or turkey or fish? Nope. I've tried before and it doesn't seem to go well), and started to leave the store. Then turned right back around and went back inside to ask one more question; how do I heat up the stuffing? Yep, no idea how to do that one either. I've never really eaten stuffing before. But once again they were very nice and VERY patient with me, and so I am very grateful to EVERYONE there for making my pre-Thanksgiving totally awesome! Now, if my Turkey Day gets screwed up, I only have myself to blame. Harrison's did everything they could except cook it for me (and I was very tempted to ask!). Thank you Harrison's! You all are AWESOME and I will be coming back in the future for more turkey (assuming this one cooks properly and I don't mess it up), chicken, etc.! Happy Thanksgiving!!! read more

Our go to for a turkey and we are never disappointed. Truly delicious tasting and fresh cut meats. They also carry some of the spices from Spice House which was a nice surprise. read more

I go for their fresh Cornish hens which they nicely spatchcock for me. We like to grill these and they are meaty and delicious.

This place saved our Thanksgiving!! A last-minute change of plans meant we had to pull together Turkey day for ourselves. I remembered M.A.'s rave and came here the day before. It was crazy, and they were sold out of turkeys. But I wound up getting an awesome roaster chicken ($2/lb. - very reasonable for free range chicken) and it was the moistest, tastiest one I've had in years. I also got eggs, and made the freshest deviled eggs ever. Everyone complimented the bird. I'm coming back for more -- including other delicacies like duck, quail and, I believe, guinea. What a great place. Thanks M.A.! read more

It took me 7 years of living in Glenview before I tried this place and I don't know what I was waiting for. The chicken here is absolutely delicious. I haven't been able to mess up a single grilled chicken breast since I started shopping here - they are always juicy and cook up just right. Even when left over, the chicken tastes great, as opposed to grocery store chicken, which often tastes funny on day 2. Curt's rating below isn't fair, if you ask me. Yes, the store is small - it's a specialty store. Yes, it stinks in there, but it's clean. He didn't even buy any chicken. read more

A North Shore institution that provides many of the area restaurants with their poultry also has this retail store in Glenview. There are many great items to choose from at Harrison's with everything from Chicken and Turkey, to fresh eggs and even special requests. They also have pre-made items such as diced frozen chicken, pre-seasoned chicken and also non-fried,pre-seasoned tenders. Many pre-packaged items that complement poultry are also available. They have at least 20 kinds of BBQ sauce, pasta, numerous kinds of stuffing and too many other items to mention. They also many, many other retail items. Simply put if you are having a BBQ or just a special event and want to cook simply, Harrison's is an awesome place to go. read more

I've been getting free range poultry from these folks for years. the prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. If you are looking for a bird for thanksgiving, be sure to order it in advance. read more

The meat it's old and changed in color. And the smell it's very heavy. It's just waist of money. Sorry!!

Great fresh poultry. I've been patronizing this family-owned business for decades and rarely buy chicken or turkey anywhere else. Staff will cut, skin, or bone to your order. Call ahead and place an order to safe a possible wait if you go on a Saturday. Fresh eggs are available too. Broad selection of condiments and seasonings too. Check it out. read more

Made a special trip for " the best fresh chicken." I have to admit, I was very excited to make my way to Harrison's. My father has raved about this place, and I read the reviews. However, I was VERY disappointed with the end results. To this day, friends and family have raved about my chicken both on the grill and in the oven. Tonight was the first time there has been more leftovers than consumed. The chicken was rubbery and tuff. I was completely embarrassed at the dinner table. I take extra care and pride in my cooking skills, and was especially attentive towards this particular meal. Everyone was commenting on how good this chicken looked as it was plated. I was very pleased with its appearance as well, however, as we dug into our plates I witnessed a decline in appetite. As I panicked, I quickly bit into a great disappointment. I have had better chicken from all major grocery stores, including Walmart, and for much less money. I'm sorry for this review, as I wanted it to be a very positive one. Even my father who raved about the quality couldn't muster up anything positive. Hopefully this was an isolated insistent, and I just got a bad batch. Although I gave the chicken a two star rating, the service I received was exceptional. The employees have a great work ethic, and fantastic customer service. They receive a five star rating. read more

I just grilled chicken from Harrison's for dinner and my husband said it was the best chicken that he had ever eaten. I had been buying organic chicken from Whole Foods but never again - the difference in quality is tremendous. I used a Greek marinade that Kyle recommended and it was incredibly delicious. The customer service was great and the prices were very reasonable. I am so glad I discovered this hidden gem! read more

We get our Thanksgiving turkey here every year. Also, pick up chicken throughout the year. Doesn't get any fresher then this! Others complain about the smell, what does it smell like in a butcher shop? Meat...well it smells like poultry here. read more

ok the quality of the chicken they provide is same or above the quality of most expensive farm raised, free range, organic,so on and on..which costs $20 up. period! I really can take the stubbornness of some workers and smell. read more

Best breast of chicken I ate. Moist, tender and flavorful. It doesn't dry out from cooking. Awesome chicken and eggs.

What a great store! Terrific turkey and other poultry. We always get a fresh turkey from Harrison's for Thanksgiving and guests always rave about them. They do a great job of managing the pre-Thanksgiving crowd. You always think it will take for-freaking-ever for your number to be called, but it's amazing how quickly they serve the throngs of pre-holiday shoppers. And, the Harrison's staff is beyond helpful. They're happy to answer questions from occasional cooks intimidated by the prospect of roasting the big bird for the whole family. They'll give you useful tips for other kinds of cooking, too. read more

The best place to get fresh poultry. I use their capons for my chicken soup, and you can taste the difference. Beware holiday shoppers at Thanksgiving and Christmas. You'll never find a place in the lot, and the lines are long and slow. read more

We just enjoyed a 20lb thanksgiving turkey from Harrison's Poultry Farm. Everyone raved about the taste of the turkey. Carving the turkey was extremely easy as the meat just fell off the bones -- we didn't do anything special to cook it, we just seasoned it and left it alone in the oven for 4 hours. More expensive than a grocery store frozen bird but well worth every penny. read more

Very rude employee. I tried to stop by, employee not only closed the store early but was down right hostile. I can't comment on the quality of the product as I didn't even get a chance to look around. I would suggest simply going to Whole Foods. read more

As to the quality of the products and the service, Harrison's deserves 10 stars! I particularly like the fact that I can get capons there, not just roasters, fryers, etc. and I can get duck (which I have cut into 8 pieces, just like I have them cut the chickens) and, in season, goose. I've also ordered my Thanksgiving turkeys there for the past 30 years and, although they're more expensive than the supermarket brands, they're well worth the extra money. read more

I accidentally discovered this poultry gem about 1 year ago. Since then, we have been getting all of our chicken from here. The chicken breasts we make with the foreman grill are absolutely amazing. You don't really have to do much of anything else to them other than season them. The farm-fresh eggs are also very good. My mom loves to get their rabbit meat here to make in her slow cooker. read more

Have been here many times. The poultry is always good and fresh however yesterday was the last time I will be going there. Yesterday and the last time I was there I purchased the frozen duck legs. Both times the posted price per pound as posted on their chalk board wa not honored. Both times the reply given was the price had gone up. Yesterday's excuse was beyond belief. The response was the price went up last week! So why was the price written in chalk not updated when the price supposedly went up days ago? Shouldn't a business honor their advertised prices? Needless to say I will not be back. read more

My family has been in Glenview for over 45 years and we have been shopping at Harrison's since we first moved here. We have always been satisfied with the products and services provided by Harrison. We shop at Harrison's for our holiday meals AND more importantly for our every day meals. Once you start eating these high quality products you will never be satisfied with poultry from a large retail grocery store. I wholeheartedly recommend Harrison's Poultry. read more

I can always count on Harrison's Poultry for perfect meat. My family has been going there for well over 40 years. It is a family owned business, and the current owner is doing a wonderful job living up to the "Poultry King" ...his father, Don Zimmerman. I got two turkeys and wanted 15 lbs. each but at the time could only order in the range from 10-15 lbs. I got one 12 and one 14 lb and was really afraid it wouldn't be enough. To be honest I don't eat anything that used to run, walk, swim or fly, but I went into Harrison's today to pick up a capon for a friend. While it was very clean and the men behind the counter were very nice, I couldn't believe how horrendous the place smelled. I grew up in Glenview and this is where we went for chicken and eggs. It is still just as good and I plan buying chicken for my family until I am in the burbs.
