As of today this is the first store I have been in without lines to keep the number of people in the store small and spread out. The registers and deli area are really the only places with 6ft rules, and only to protect employees. Who cares about the shoppers right? There were easily 100 people in this store, all on top of each other in the usual areas. I am disgusted by the lack of concern as a whole. I hated this store since it got here, slowly dropping the quality of food over time and leaving rotting/moldy fruit out but this is the last time I'll be caught here. This is my local Mariano's by me. It's a nice layout, easy access in and out of the parking lot. They keep the place clean. It's a fairly new location. I have tried their hot bar and salad bar. The salad bar is more well stocked than the hot bar. When we arrive around 5pm the food seemed a bit out of stock or dried out a bit maybe from sitting around past lunch hours? I think that's typical in all grocery hot bars, sad to see though. I wish they would monitor or mix the food around so it looks more pleasing to the eyes. In the hot bar, I do like their original Mac and cheese, broasted fried chicken, mash potatoes, clam chowder soup, deep fried shrimp, and their steamed mix vegetables. I would come after work to have dinner at their eating area sometimes. The eating area has a large long community table and other smaller tables by the windows which is nice. They have 2 flat screen TVs to watch. They have soft music in the back ground too. I also like their bbq ribs and brisket, fresh sushi tempura maki, but didn't care much of their poke bowls. The grocery products are fresh and the isles are well stocked and organized. Once in awhile I would order a fresh steak to be grilled to bring home. You can have other meats and seafood grilled as well while you shop. You have to pay that first before they give you the grilled item and show your paid receipt. They have a friendly staff you can even ask to sample deli items at the deli section. Overall, it's a nice place that I would come back. read more

Pros: - Cleanliness is on point - Carts are clean - Overall look of the store is so much cleaner than other Marianos' - Employees are helpful - Shelves are stocked full - Meat & Fish dept. know their shit - The person at the grill is always grilling stuff. This location is by far the worst Mariano's that I have ever been to. They always run out of sale items. And the worst and most frustrating thing about this store is the deli section. I always waste so much time here waiting to be helped. There is always only one or two people working the deli section. However if you look over to the meat section, there are always like 5 guys just standing around doing nothing! Also the weekend manager is a joke! He is not helpful at all and couldn't care less about the customers! Oh and if you try to buy deli on Sunday night around 7, forget it. They close the deli section early to clean the machines even though there is no sign posted. Go somewhere else! read more

I LOVE Mariano's. It's all the beauty and healthy finds of Whole Foods with prices comparable to Jewel and Aldi (depending on what you buy). All of the workers are friendly and helpful, they have "car carts" for kids, free samples of gelato, and a hot food bar with the best chicken tenders our family has ever eaten. Not to mention their baked goods...amazing. Love this place! Also, I transferred two prescriptions to their pharmacy, and we received two $25 off coupons. Three strikes and you won't get any of my hard earned money! Third time in on a Saturday and not even half the registers staffed at least four filled carts deep at each. I dropped my items, 3 items, and left. I'm not spending 20 minutes trying to checkout. No express checkout? WTH! Third time looking for the chocolate covered strawberries for my wife. Sold out. Always sold out! Employee said you have to get them early after they open. Apparently only make a selection and that's it. Once gone, Tough! Do you want to make money? Perhaps keeping a strong selling item in stock will help the bottom line. Today I left with out purchasing anything. Previous visit I spent a little better than $30. First time I went we spent over $200. See the rate of diminishing returns? I realize I'm just one person however, get a few dozen more like me and your profitability goes down. I haven't had this bad of experiences at other Marianos. This one is close and the other grocery stores in Des Plaines are, well, kinda despicable to be honest. Really a big disappointment. This store has a convenient location. I always go here regularly, and it is not so busy. There are a lot of people who also shop inside, but not to the point that the store is crowded. I really like that it is not always busy, which also means that I would be able to shop freely without minding anything, and, of course, the checkout would be fast. I also like how clean and organized the whole store is each time I shop. It feels like the store does not get dirty considering that the aisles are always spotless and shiny. The majority of the products inside are literally always either fully stocked or well stocked, and there are only a few products that are out of stock. Not only are the prices excellent, but so is the product quality. I've been shopping in this store for quite a while now, and I cannot think of any negative experiences I've had when it comes to the quality and freshness of the products. Prices are also fair and reasonable. I mostly got a lot of great deals, including the most recent one I saw, which has a 15% discount on the wines, which is another great deal for me. read more

I have been waiting forever for Mariano's to open, and so happy it's finally here! The employees are really friendly. Some of the cashiers seemed inexperienced, but it takes time to learn everything. So that is understandable. My first walk through was very intimidating, since it's huge. The coolest things were the make your own trail mix, and popcorn mix. Most of the ready made food items are expensive, so I only chose a couple things. They were pretty good. You can find lot of good deals here at Mariano's. Their place is so decent, clean, and huge. You can buy anything you want and need here. Such an outstanding grocery store! Quality items from canned goods, frozen food, meats, veggies, fruits, breads, dairies, and others. Their staff here are so helpful, friendly, and decent. They all know how to treat and guide all of their customers so well. No wonder why lot of their old customers can easily know their names because all of them are so attentive and such professional employees. Really love shopping here. The prices of their items here are so fair and reasonable. Perfect for big families. Their location is so easy to find, you can go there anytime you want, but I suggest to go visit there earlier if you can to avoid long lines at their cashiers. I got myself into a little bit of trouble in the self checkout line. I don't know how it happened, because this is how I check out every time I visit this location. I think the machine was screwing up. It was embarrassing because it was a Sunday afternoon and there was a long line behind me. Jim was very helpful and made it no big deal. When I apologized for the mishap, Jim told me that he valued his customers and wanted me to leave happy. It was so nice to find kindness in the supermarket line. Thanks again, Jim! read more

Well, 3 years later and only getting worse. Now they've gotten rid of the smaller carts and the baskets - even though both were popular. Pharmacy closes at 2 p.m. every day because not enough staff to cover lunches. Produce OK but only OK, and often they'll be out of staples like green beans or red peppers. This store is really close to my house but we drive across town to Jewel. A real shame and so unnecessary. It was packed when it opened and now it's going the way of Dominick's. We need a good grocery here. I can only hope someone will buy it when it goes under but they'll probably blame the location, when that's not it at all. read more

If you are looking to pick up a hot meal after work from Des Plaines location and walk in at 5:30, you will see some of the hot food selections have already been broken down. I am not talking about the food being empty, I am talking about the buffet workers removing full chaffing dishes and bringing them back to the kitchen and not replenishing. This happens time and again. Why would you begin removing food this early? For dinner, most people are just getting there then. This store also doesn't offer as many food selections as other nearby locations, so the 5:30 break down does not help any. read more

They friggen' let you buy wine or beer at the bar & walk around the store with it! And they have Happy Hour!!! Also an awesome amount of fresh produce, most likely better quality than Jewel (sorry, Jewel.) The gelato, cafe, trail mix bar, oyster bar, sushi bar, poke station, hot food bar (love the mac' & cheese! & basically everything there), meat/deli with delicious meat pinwheels & stuffed peppers, it goes on & on. The floral dept. is totally spot on, too; it's gorgeous. I like their pre-made salads (and I am seriously not a salad person.) I also like this vanilla boxed/bottled coffee they have in a yellow package by the brand of Gevalia; I haven't seen it anywhere else. Prices are fair or decent. They also have a rewards card that basically lets you receive the sale price, not sure if it does anything else. Overall, I would definitely choose this grocery store over any other unless I needed something specific they don't have, which is a slim chance. read more

This year we decided to pre-order 5 lobsters for $10 each. When my wife went to pick them up, they said our order was not found. Instead they gave my wife lobster tails, and I expected the full lobster, not the tail. When my wife came home, we called the manager. She explained they ran out then she says we can return the tails for a refund. What a let down! We were very disappointed as the family was looking forward to the lobsters. I was hoping this Marianos would be better than the Arl Hts store. It's different, but not better. The employees are either untrained or indifferent or both. And management is BAD. Plus this store is more expensive than Arl Hts, which makes no sense since the demographic in 60005 is surely wealthier than 60016. The Marianos card is a scam as far as I am concerned. They want your personal information to get the sales price effective 5/18/17. Why? Every other store did away with that. I'm buying groceries, not a new car. Why do you need my personal info? I KNOW WHY. Because you want to market me, and likely sell my info, and buying habits, to your "affiliates" so Kroger can make more money. I asked at the service desk to speak to the mgr about the new Mariano's card policy, since I really don't want to give my personal information to them, but he told the front desk clerk to tell me "there was nothing he could do". HE DIDN'T EVEN COME UP FRONT. I've tried a bunch of Mariano's stores, unfortunately in my experience the two worst managed ones are near me (Arl Hts, Des Plaines). So, most likely, I'll be switching my shopping habits back to where they were before Mariano's opened in Arlington Hts. Back to Jewel, back to the independent grocers. I'll surely save a lot at the independents as I was spending a lot of money at Mariano's. Cart I grabbed came complete with someone's leftover garbage and cups. Store looked unkempt-it was 8 p.m. Sale items gone and lots of empty spaces. I wanted to love Mariano's because it is sooooo close, however, they are sorely lacking in humanely raised meat (pasture raised or grass fed) and a good year round selection of organic produce. For petes sake, even Jewel has butter from pasture raised cows and a decent selection of organic produce now. (Unfortunately the produce is lacking in quality though ). I expected Mariano's to be better. So I'm back to the long commute to Whole Foods. They don't disappoint and the new Amazon deals are pretty impressive. I was a big fan of this Mariano's when it openned. ...but that has changed as the quality has continued to slide & availability of brands I like are becoming more difficult to find. Produce quality has slipped. Recent carton of eggs had several cracked. The change in management/ownership is erroding the store quality. Mariano's raised the quality-bar when they moved into the area - now, it seems that they're milking-dry all the good will they built as they follow the downward path that Dominick's took. read more

I normally don't rate grocery stores but I just had a fantastic experience at this Mariano's. The staff we worked with were very helpful, friendly, and approachable. The food, especially desserts, were delicious. We got takeaways of ribs and prime rib. The flowers were cheerful and neatly arranged to sell and Mary Kate was helpful in picking a bouquet. This has been one of the bigger Mariano's stores that I've been to. One of my favorite parts about it is it's wide variety of food choices. They have a "Poke Bowl Bar" so instead of having to pick up a pre-made one from earlier in the day, you can have it fresh made, and it is also PACKED with more fish! Win! A year ago I gave them four stars, but after giving them over a year to improve on the lack of an adequate amount of cashiers no matter what time of day it is, they are still greatly understaffed in this department. The Arlington Heights store seems to have better management when it comes to accommodating their customers at checkout. The deli staff is great, but the meat department could use more friendly and more available staff also. This place is a destination! They have everything you can imagine...a cafe, sandwiches, prepped food, hot dinners (Italian goodies), a meat counter, butcher, soups, sushi, fresh fruit.
