This place has very poor customer service. I went there yesterday and bought a couple of pastries. My total came to about $12 and some change. The employee who helped me was not only very distracted while serving me, but when it was time to charge my card, instead of charging me around $12, they accidentally charged me over $72. To make matters worse, the employee walked into the back of the store with my credit card in hand to look for the manager, then came back and explained what had happened. The manager simply said, "Sorry," and that was it. Now I have to wait almost five days for the money to be refunded to my card. This was a very frustrating experience and could have been handled much more professionally. read more

It's ok. 3.5 stars. It's been hit or miss with their cakes. Bought a small fruit tart cake for $25, but they used seeded grapes and I bit into one very annoyed and embarrassed I had to tell my guests to watch bc the grapes had seeds. They should use the seedless or leave them off. Same for the strawberries--they should slice them with the stems off so you don't need to do work to eat a slice of the cake. Located in Saddle Brook , I came to this local establishment for some Italian bread. To avoid the long lines and thanks to the owner, Maria, I had pre-ordered and pre-paid a couple of days ago. Upon arrival at the designated time, there were some patrons ordering their goods as it opened an hour earlier at 7am. Recently purchased a 10" round custom cake from Maria's with vanilla sponge cake, chocolate pudding and chocolate mousse with requested reeses pieces on top and a cross they beautifully did in flowers. This bakery's "old school" mentality is hard to find anymore and may not offer all of the modern fancy amenities newer businesses can but you can absolutely taste the love and care they put into their craft. Maria's has had quite the revamping over the past couple of years. It's now twice the size and offers small cafe tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a pastry and coffee I cannot say I have tasted every item in this bakery and can vouch for its freshness but the standards have always been fresh for me Their Italian cookies, lobster tails, cupcakes, napoleons have all been delicious and fresh. Have not purchased a cake here in a long time As far as their service, I have never had an issue with the sales people. They have always been courteous. You'll find this bakery has quite long hours and is open many holidays which makes it convenient My favorite here is the French cream lobster tail. HORRIBLE SERVICE !! I went into the bakery with my elderly and disabled mother so she could purchase some pastries. There were FIVE young ladies behind the counter. There were NO patrons in front of us. Not one of the employees acknowledged us. One was texting on her phone. One was leaning against the counter. The remaining three were engrossed in a conversation. After about a minute I said, "excuse me, is anyone going to help us?" They ALL looked at us like we were inconveniencing them. Finally, an older woman came out of the back and said, "sorry, I tell them all the time to be attentive". So management knows the employees are NOT doing as they were instructed to do. Got 3 individual tiramisu pieces. Terrible! Never expected this Coming from an Italian bakery. Firstly, tiramisu is supposed to be soaked in espresso. Cake is dry and dense, not soaked and there isn't any espresso flavor coming thru. Thus, this isn't tiramisu. Second, even just the cake was so eggy tasting and dense, not airy and sponges. We have been to this bakery 3 times. Our experience has always been below average. I read a lot of reviews about poor customer service but my experience with the staff was normal. The first time i got a strawberry shortcake and sadly it was not fresh and absolutely no taste. Got a cup cake, tamirasu, strawberry shortcake and a walnut danish. I have to agree with the other reviews, freshly made pastries were good but the days old Danish was ok bit you had to hear it up to get full flavor. Cupcake was ok but a little on the dry side. I walked in around 2 PM and the place was STACKED with baked goods, but it's the usual Italian pastries, as well as a few cakes. Nothing entirely special in my opinion, and not one of my favorites. I just grabbed a few of their mini Italian pastries to bring back to work.
