She offered coffee or water and only had me as a customer so I didn't feel like she was too busy to get to know me. She is a super nice person and has a very interesting life! I love my trim from Mari! Making an appointment was super easy and I was able to make it within 2 days. I was heading out of town so I wanted to make sure to get my hair cut prior to leaving. Mari was super awesome and got me in the schedule. She was friendly and also started the appointment on time. I've had so many appointments where stylists book back to back and run late. This wasn't the case and we were able to start and end promptly. I was looking for a simple trim. I have long hair and wanted to keep it that way. Just an inch or two to cut off the dead ends and to clean it up a little bit. Most stylists end up cutting off way more than I would like so I end up dreading trims. The Yelp reviews don't lie. Mari is awesome, I am so glad I found her from Groupon. she is super caring and asks lots of questions to ensure she understands your needs. I like that she double/triple checks her work to make sure it's just right and she listens if you have a particular change that you would like. I have OCD about symmetry and she was super patient with me about the tweaks. :) Just so you know, while Mari is classically trained, her style of cutting is intuitive and she "feels" your hair and gives a customized, not standard cut. I just went to Mari for the first time after reading the great Yelp reviews and could not be happier! She took my one-length "hippie hair" and did a beautiful job layering it and adding gorgeous highlights. It feels so much lighter and has great movement. She really is a hair artist the way she approaches your hair. I was nervous because I have waist length hair and other stylists always want to chop it off. i wanted to keep the length but it was so boring. She completely listened to what I wanted and it's beautiful! I will definitely be a regular! Update; Mari did my cut and highlights again last week before my son's wedding. She did a beautiful job. Mari is an excellent hairstylist. She takes the time to really understand what you want and what works with your lifestyle and personality. She examines your hair and gives suggestions and feedback but ultimately provides you with what you want - a flattering fabulous haircut. Her space is located inside the Nail Garden. It's separated by glass and is a stylish area. I highly recommend her! On a side note - I was extremely disappointed with the Nail Garden itself. I had been with my previous hair stylist for years, but over time she kept moving further and further away... until the drive to see her got so ridiculous that I had to find someone new. Which is always scary. I've definitely heard the horror stories. And unfortunately experienced one first hand. Got my hair cut with someone new and it was AWFUL. One side was 1 inch longer than the other, and she chopped a thick, single layer in the back that looked more like a step than layers. Super hideous. I considered going back to my original stylist, but then I found Mari at Maximus. She had really positive reviews on Yelp so I decided to give her a try. And I'm so glad I did... I LOVE my hair and have been getting so many compliments on it! Even from guys in my office who I didn't even think noticed things like that. My fiancée who I DEFINITELY didn't think noticed these things said "Did you do something different to your hair?" and I said "I got it cut!" and he said my hair looked like it should be in a Pantene commercial. Amazing!!! I signed up for Yelp just to leave this review. Mari did such a great job on my highlights, exactly what I asked for, subtle and natural, that a couple months out, my roots still look blended. The highlights have not turned brassy or faded out, but have remained bright and beachy. I first heard of Mari through my co-worker, who also has fine, dark blonde hair. It took me months to figure out if her highlights were natural or not, that's how good Mari is with color. Mari also charged me a great price for the amount of time she spent with me. She went out of her way to accomodate my schedule and was able to squeeze me in on a Saturday. I have been driving to Long Beach since moving to the Southbay in fear of not being able to find someone who I trust with my hair. I have long hair and I'm always afraid of a stylist cutting it too short. Mari listened to exactly what I wanted and did an excellent job on my cut. Mari is amazing. I had been box dying my hair for years but I have now sworn off of box dye forever thanks to her. She took my grungy orange tinted hair and made it blonde again. I hadn't gotten a hair cut in two years because stylist always butcher my curly hair but she knew exactly what to do, got rid of the split ends, and kept from cutting too much. She also gave me a ton of advice on products to use and didn't force any of the pricey items on me as most stylists do.
