DO NOT GO HERE. My family stopped here thinking that it would be a nice restaurant to have breakfast at on Saturday morning. Walking in they would not seat us till every member of the family was in the restaurant. We were seated and it took them 20 min to get us water and coffee. The waitress was a very rude and seemed annoyed by us. After ordering food we waited another 45 min. Food was ok but services was terrible. read more

If you want a typical Midwest diner for breakfast and lunch with decent, rib-sticking food, not fancy but homey atmosphere and friendly service, then stop at Betty's when you are near Ottertail Lake. We stopped on a hellaciously rainy Monday in June, so we're seated right away and our food came within 5 minutes. We had the special of the day roast beef manhattan sandwich with perfectly soft white bread and mashed potatoes. A tad salty but beef was tender and nice thick slices. The chicken salad with grapes and dill sauce with toasted cranberry wild rice bread (not sweet) was excellent. Finished it off with not-to-be missed pies: strawberry rhubarb and county fair (a chocolate chip toll house like concoction with butterscotch chips; very rich but tasty. Food is good with very fair prices. Little has changed at Betty's since we first discovered it 20+ years ago. Many options on the menu, we particularly like breakfast. Open daily in the summer months. The wait staff is excellent, and service is quick. I stopped in for lunch while taking a break from fishing . There were a total of 3 people in the diner and the service was terrible. I ordered the monster burger and fries I figured it's hard to mess up a burger. I was wrong the meat had a bad taste to it and my fries were mushy and undercooked. I would have complained but I didn't see the surly waitress again until she brought my check without a thank you or how was your food ( uneaten ). So thankful we found this gem of a breakfast place, just wished we would have found it sooner, we would have gone there each day we were up in the area. I was up there with my family for a golf weekend; we had a party of 8 which could have been a long wait but we got lucky that there was a table available. The waitress we had was absolutely wonderful; talked to everyone even the kids which they appreciated. She was genuinely excited about the menu and her recommendations did not disappoint! We shared a ginormous caramel roll and all I have to say about that was WOW! Totally recommend that! The many flavors of French toast were the big hit of the table. Updating my review after 2nd visit. Less than stellar experience. Waited an hour for food and got the most unfriendly service. We were sat in a corner and couldn't even move our chairs with tables all around us. Very claustrophobic. Was met with a harsh stare when I asked how big the biscuits were in response to being asked how many I wanted. Everything was perfect! We were seated immediately, and got our coffee right away. Our server was very pleasant as well! We had 5 for breakfast, 3 ordered the Awesome Breakfast, and the other 2 had one egg, hash browns and toast. The food was awesome. Everything came out at the same time, hot and delicious. Family owned and operated for multiple generations. This local diner is a must when visiting the Ottertail Lake area. The food is very good, service is efficient and kind, and prices are more than reasonable. Many have said the potato pancakes are the best, but i have not tried them. Make sure to bring cash or a check book as they do not accept debit or credit cards. read more

I gave Betty's a second shot this morning and I was just as disappointed. Three weeks ago I stopped by with some of my family and ordered the eggs Benedict. It was just ok. The coffee was watered down and disgusting. All in all not terribly impressed for my first visit in three years. Today our waitress was rather rude and snippy. The kitchen doesn't take requests (I like my hashbrowns extra crunchy) and our waitress just said "they are only fried one one side" then turned and left. The coffee was still watered down and disgusting. The place was packed and we waited quite a while for our omelets. The hasbrowns and omelet tasted pretty good but it doesn't really make up for the rest. Next time I head to the lake I won't be stopping back. read more

Betty's Pantry in Ottertail is a wonderful surprise! Good food and unbelievable prices. An old-fashioned eatery that one rarely finds amidst all the chains. Friendly help, a family atmosphere, homemade baked goods. A real gem in Minnesota's glacial lakes region. Should be on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
