The Boondocks Cafe is somewhere that I want to go eat every day when I'm older. The vibe is calm and relaxing, but also spirited. The attention given to the regulars was heartwarming and I could feel the community. The food was great and at a really good price too. Highly recommend getting the pie if you have room or taking some to go. I'm not a huge sweets person but I loved it. read more

The food is amazing . The service is something to be said. The two girls working do not clean tables, been here for 35 minutes and people have come and gone and no one cleans the tables. They stand and talk. Out of 15 spots to eat 9 are filled with dirty dishes. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to the Minnesota state fair. As we walked in, a large table of friends enjoying their breakfast told us to seat ourselves anywhere (we looked like tourists, lol). Our server couldn't have been friendlier, and our food came out fast, hot, and delicious. The bacon was my favorite - thick, crispy, and yummy. My friend especially enjoyed the caramel roll, which came out of the oven just before we got there. To top it all off, some generous anonymous diner paid for our breakfast in full! Boondocks is small town dining at its best. read more

Service and coffee are excellant, get to the restaurant early if you want homemade carmel or cinnamon roll. Everything is homemade from scratch and to order. Dont expect your meal in 5 especially on weekends. Their moto is: A great meal takes time, your order will be ready in a few minutes. Order #1 for breakfast. read more

The food at boondocks is where you would expect at an All-American diner. Roast beef turkey ham and chicken are your main topics. That is not to be off-putting as the food tastes really good. Most of the waiting staff has been there for years and the owners and the owner's children all work there. If you ever get your food and it's not done how you would like they bring it back and correct it. You can't ask for much more from a service point of view. My family goes and eats at boondocks about two times a month and perhaps three on a good month. Now comes the waiting staff review. You better bring your laughing bone and your talking Bone because they are definitely willing to make you laugh, hear a good joke, or talk with you about just about anything. Whenever my son has a new joke to tell he tells it to the waitresses. We moved here in 2022 and boondock is our main eating place read more

Love the atmosphere of a bustling cafe, awesome breakfasts and baked goods. Limited lunch menu. Delicious food.

Bad service. Bad food. I came here years ago when staying here and the was a wonderful place. They don't serve breakfast on Sunday. Lunch options are sad. It's too bad. Maybe covid made it go down hill. read more

For the local farmers (and most farmers in the U.S.) who grow soybeans, corn and wheat, etc., breakfast starts at 6 am, lunch is around 10 am, dinner is around 1 pm, and supper is at 6 pm. Non farmer locals generally follow suit. We were here for breakfast and ordered biscuits and gravy, a carmel roll, the denver skillet, and scrambled eggs with sausage with hash browns. Both came with your choice of toast. Everything was very good, coffee excellent. Lots of tables, friendly staff. Open 6 am to 3 pm. Should hit -20 tonight, with more snow. Current ground snow about 12 inches. We'll be doing some ice fishing on Otter Tail Lake today for walleyes and perch. My ice fishing gear is ready as is my Vexilar and I checked the blades on my auger. The northern lights can create quite a stunning show in this area. I hope to see them. A few years ago the bright green, blue, and red wavy lights circled the family residence for about 30 minutes during the evening. read more

Stopped by, on our way to the Twin Cities, after reading the mostly good reviews on Yelp. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. Serving sizes are humongous and tasty. Hash browns are "handshreaded" as the menu says. If you are in a hurry, not what you should order as it takes 15 minutes for those to be cooked. Certainly worth the wait. We had the Denver skillet and a Sausage skillet, and it was filling. If driving through again, and looking for a good meal, we'd certainly stop by. read more

We stopped for breakfast, and found the food to be above average, and the prices extremely reasonable, I fed my 3 kids (6yrs & under) my wife & I for $17.02. That included a cinnamon roll & blueberry muffin. We left stuffed :) read more

I had the French toast and eggs and it was as good as usual. I'm also amazed that the watreses can rember what I have to drink since I don't usually come here. They also open early and the kitchen stops taking orders at 2:45pm. read more

Food was good, service was so-so. They sat us at a dirty table while there was clean ones available. The waitress threw kid menus on the table and stormed away when I asked if they had kid menus after waiting 5 mins for her to come back after wiping the table. Would give it another try as I know we all have bad days. read more

Easy to give the restaurant five stars. A café like this every community needs to have. The breakfast was great! Some of the best biscuits n' gravy I've ever had! The side order of hash browns I requested was huge! A lot of food for a low price. And good coffee too. Plenty of seating. The place was clean. As it's not a greasy spoon restaurant. To top it off. The service was fantastic! The waitress was friendly. Always checking to see if we needed anything. My only regret is we never came back for lunch. read more

It's 10:35am and my family and I go in for breakfast. The waitress immediately asks if we are eating breakfast. We say yes and she shakes her head and sighs. She asks us right as we sit down "what are you having?" We kindly ask for a few minutes to look over the menu. 3 minutes later she comes back. I didn't have enough time so I was pressured to order 1 piece of French toast, coffee, and a glass of water. She brings the water with her fingers around the rim of the glass, no big deal I don't drink the water, it's flu season. I then saw an older gentleman sit down across the room. It's 10:50am he asks for breakfast, she straight up tells him no and he leaves. I hope the old silver haired ogre reads this. My family was finally together after almost a year and all we wanted was a nice breakfast and you ruined it. read more

Stopped by Boondocks Cafe for an early breakfast while we were driving to Canada for a fishing trip. All I can say is this place is AWESOME! Their hash browns are hand shredded onto the grill and are 10 times better than your standard fare frozen ones that most places serve. The homemade Carmel rolls are possibly the best I have ever eaten. If you have a chance, do stop by . . . You won't be disappointed. By the way, say Hi to Mary . . . She was an excellent waitress read more

Good coffee, good food, great cinnamon rolls and fun, friendly service!!! A must! So glad we tried it.

Great for breakfast but unless your fine with the standard menu (no modifications to your dish) expect some attitude.

Food is fine, service not so much; not a local. Server seemed more interested in talking with coworkers and friends than doing her job. Went there first day in town and avoided thereafter. Might be off day or might be an employee in need of counciling but my impression is in. read more

Great home town cafe. Monday about 11:30 AM, the place is three quarters full (I would guess mostly locals - which tells you a lot), and our service was great. Many meals are home made. Great food and service! Good portions and all around awesome, we would definitely go back!

This is a good place to sit down to have breakfast. Excellent service with great food.

We happened on the Boondocks during vacation. Our waitress was energetic and friendly. Plenty of locals and friendly banter about the place. Roast Beef was a classic commercial. Dessert was a homemade tast that puts it over chain restaurants. Fiinally, the coffee. Whatever water they are using, it makes excellent coffee...fresh, not muddy, not too strong, read more

Amazing! Don't miss this one. We stopped for lunch and are so glad we did. The food was wonderful and prices beyond fair. Observing the daily routine was worth the price of a ticket. The servers knew the regular customers; called them by name, knew what desert they wanted without being asked, and there was nonstop clever comments as the customers and servers went at each other -- all friendly and even loving. I had the meat loaf dinner - locals told us when entering it was a hit and it was. My wife had the soup and sandwich special, also great. We each had pie which was clearly homemade and worth every penny! I wish we lived closer to this restaurant as we would become one of the abundant regulars there for lunch. We were also impressed that this restaurant provides a special to senior citizens who are part of their "club". If the senior orders a healthy meal, they get a complimentary desert. Oh, could other restaurants take a number of lessons from this jem in downtown Wadena. read more
