This is sort of a hip little place in small town America and they are becoming more common as I make my way around rural America. The place has a clean uncluttered look and very clean. The waitress was pleasant and she provided decent customer service. I ordered the Rachel ( a Reuben but with turkey breast ) and it was very good with heaping helpings of turkey breast. Wadena MN is an old school town, wide streets,concentrated downtown. Picked The Uptown on Yelp, it was a good choice. One room was closed due to the virus, but the open room included distanced tables, a bar with great beers, and a $6 lunch menu. A recent trip into Wadena for an errand landed me here for lunch during week of July 9, 2019. I understand that this place has been serving diners for many years. I got a seat at a booth and a friendly server greeted me. Seeing as they had Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy on tap, I ordered one and also the chicken nacho appetizer. The beer was refreshing, and those nachos were so tasty and the perfect amount for me for a "lighter meal" since I'd eaten a pancake and bacon breakfast just 2 hours prior. Best thing on the menu is the stir-fry salad. Just don't substitute the peanut sauce. The service is always good. They top off your drink as long as you sit and visit. They don't keep the music too loud and it's always clean. No sticky table like at certain restaurants around that have fruits and bugs in their name. read more

This is the second time in a year we have come to this place and both times out of Alfredo sauce and noodles. Ordered a drink that requires cream and looked like cottage cheese in it. Ended up getting walleye dinner and it was so water logged when you cut into it the water poured out and fish was cooked but slimy. The vegetables tasted like they were cooked in a stale pan. My daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger and she said it tasted like the school's burgers. The owner/waitress was ignorant to the food being terrible she argued that their food was good and Noone else had complaints. We will never return. read more

The Uptown is more upscale than you usually see in small community restaurants. Yet I only paid twenty-five dollars and change for two people. The food was phenomenal! I have no idea what kind of seasoning was used for my potatoes? But it was fantastic! The catfish I had was equally as good! And rave reviews for the coleslaw! Two thumbs up for the friendly service. Coming here for lunch, spending just a little more cash, was well worth it! read more

We stopped in here on our travels though Minnesota and we are glad! The food was super tasty, hot and fresh. The menu has a large variety and it was hard to choose. I had the Triple B Burger, burger, beef, and bourbon with Swiss on a pretzel bun and sweet potato waffle fries. My wife had the Rachel like a rueben but with turkey and garlic baby potatoes. Both were great, they came hot and delicious! Service was friendly and helpful and the place was casual cute! I would def recommend! read more

Ate there 3 different times. The food was always really good. Had a burger, calimari, boneless wings, and a Cobb salad. The Cobb salad was beautifully presented and very fresh. I posted a picture of it. The decor is really plain and they need different lighting but THE BAR! The BAR is laser etched with different athletes and is one of the coolest I've seen. The uptown has changed management quite a few times within the past 10 years. I want to say 3 or 4 different owners... The most recent is a group of brothers from town who have experience with the Green Mill. They have kept the menu selection pretty basic, however everything I have ate there has been very good. I've gone 4+ times and really enjoy their calamari, burgers and wings. Their calamari is so good there is only one other place I have ate a nice meaty but soft calamari that has the perfect amount of coating and that was at a Claim Jumpers in Arizona. I put this restaurant near the top within a 45 mile radius. That would include bigger cities like Brainerd, Alexandria and Detroit Lakes. If you are looking for your classic American meals cooked right with a slight twist, this is the place. read more

I was compelled to write a review based on the Chicken Marsala alone. My job requires a substantial amount of travel . Because of the travel I eat at a lot of different restaurants all over the US.
