One of Crosslake's Best-Kept Secrets!…read more If you haven't tried Mad Rabbits in Crosslake, you're missing out on one of those little hidden gems that deserves a lot more attention! The food is fresh, hearty, flavorful, and just plain GOOD. They have some great comfort-food dishes that feel homemade but still have that little something extra. I had the Jambalaya Pasta, and WOW. Absolutely delicious! Full of flavor, hearty enough to fill you up, and definitely something I would order again. Mad Rabbits sits just off the main strip near the Town Square, so it can be easy to drive right past without realizing what you're missing. In my opinion, it's one of Crosslake's best-kept secrets. The restaurant itself is also adorable. You can tell a lot of thought went into the decor, the atmosphere is inviting, and the seating is actually comfortable -- which I appreciate! Service can occasionally be a little slower, but this is a family-run business, and I'll gladly give a little grace to a local family putting out genuinely good, fresh food. I could easily see a restaurant like this thriving in a much bigger city. So if you're in Crosslake and trying to decide where to have dinner, get off the main strip and give Mad Rabbits a try. Grab a comfortable seat, order something hearty, and definitely give that Jambalaya Pasta a shot! Supporting a great local family business AND getting a delicious dinner? That's a win in my book.

What a FABULOUS little place! Outside it's nondescript. Inside it's a gem!…read more Service was sensational. The drinks and food were too. The highlights were the lobster cerviche lettuce wraps and the beef stroganoff (my hubby said it was ok - he's spoiled by mine - but everyone else raved about it!). I had the Blueberry Pecan Chicken Salad and it was one of the best salads I've had. Our visit was part of an annual friend-cabin-weekend thing and we will DEFINITELY go back! ‍

Red Pine Cookhouse is getting all the buzz north of MN 210, and for good reason! The proprietors…read moreare serving up authentic modern Vietnamese and Thai dishes, alongside standard up north favorites like burgers and fish and chips. Two of us had the Pad Thai, one had steak and potatoes, and the other Szechuan tofu. The Pad Thai stands up to any version I've had anywhere, a strong and solid offering with the tanginess of tamarind balanced with fresh chopped cilantro. The traditional beef and potatoes dish can be hit and miss, but this one balanced potatoes with crispy edges and pillowy starchiness with quality strips of steak, all stir fried together in just enough brown sauce to bring it together. The tofu and snap peas in a spicy Szechuan sauce were flavorful and hearty enough after appetizers. We didn't get pictures of the egg rolls, which are as good as you'll find in these parts and the spring rolls, which were slightly less authentic than we'd hoped. We finished off with lemon bar ice cream, Vietnamese flan, and a toffee Bundt cake. Red Pine Cookhouse is a visually impressive log building with plenty of natural light flowing in through the many windows and a curved staircase leading up to a game room for the kids. We enjoyed the evening on the patio. We were thrilled to have been introduced to this gem of a restaurant, and look forward to our next trip back!
