I have been to Jin Hu several times and ordered takeout DOZENS of times. Every single time the food is *perfect.* They are so good at what they do, and are such an important part of Perham's dining/restaurant community. I went for lunch and ordered General Tso's Chicken with Hot Sour soup. The soup and my drink were delivered expeditiously. The soup was hot and delicious with chunks of pork and tasty veggies. My entrée came out before I could hit the bottom of my soup bowl. It was hot and delicious with plenty of sauce. The spring roll that came with it was crispy on the outside and filled with delicious cabbage, carrots and whatever else was in it. I found the entire experience to be very satisfying. Was there to 9/19/2024 and ordered $ 42.70 of food then asked for the free egg rolls with a $40.00 order we were told the lunch special doesn't count. No where on the cover of the take out menu does it state that. It says with a 40.00 purchase you get two free egg rolls. The woman at the window said lunch doesn't count. No matter what I said she was not getting it. She just kept coming up with more excuses. This is the only game in town to get Chinese food so they make any rule they want!! And she is always rude!! Accept it for what it is--Chinese food in an old Hardee's location in rural Minnesota. I'm surprised to see comments expecting a Michelin worthy experience. I ordered Bourbon chicken and chicken lo mein. Both were disgusting. The Bourbon "chicken" didn't even look like chicken. The texture was strange and there was a lot of fat on it. The Bourbon sauce was acidic and pale brown. The noodles were thick and mushy. The "chicken" was a soft, rubbery pale color mass. The egg rolls that came with the orders were mushy on the inside and the outside was a thick white shell. The fortune cookies were the only edible items in the bag. With COVA19 taking place passing thru the area on a Saturday night and looking for something better than the Golden Arches we came across the little gem. We both had the generals chicken and was filled with great cuts of chicken not small pieces of fat. Flavor could have been a little more spicy for GSC. This is a small town. I drove through a few times and each time I have stopped here. I ordered the Szechuan chicken and a bowl of egg drop soup as well. The taste was quite good. Ran across this place while doing a Google search for Chinese food in Detroit Lakes. Had good reviews there - so we decided to try it out. This place is located conveniently off of Highway 10. Restaurant is in a building that was formerly some sort of fast food joint. Food was delicious. We had the flat noodles with beef - and they were absolutely delish. The Spring rolls were pretty awesome too. They do have some lunch/dinner deals (usual combo of soup/roll/etc) but we did not get to try that. Highly recommend this place if you are traveling along Highway 10 or are in the Perham area. Now, if we can get the owner to smile and be a little more friendly - this place would be even more awesome! read more

I was in town for work and two different people recommended this place. From the outside it is nothing special, just a converted fast food place, but as always don't judge a book by it's cover. The interior can only be described as "tired". The carpet was very old and stained, paint and fixtures were well worn, the place really needed a renovation, but it was all quite clean which is the most important part. On to the food- the menu was surprisingly large with a nice variety. The lunch specials all cost $6.25 and came with an egg roll, pork fried rice and choice of soup, you could choose from a very large range of entrees. (Seems like most places only give you a handful of lunch special choices, this place had well over a dozen). I ordered the Sesame chicken with hot and sour soup. Service was fast considering it was during lunch hour. The hot and sour soup was quite tasty, definitely both hot and sour. I enjoyed it. The fried rice on the other hand was a disappointment. It tasted stale. The sesame chicken was covered in a heavy, sticky sauce. It wasn't bad but the sauce was a bit overpowering. The egg roll was your average egg roll, Not bad. The portion was a nice size and for $6.25 it was a decent lunch. A much better value than the McDonalds next door. The staff was friendly and they were hard at work. The place is obviously a local favorite judging by the crowd in there. All in all, not a bad lunch. Not spectacular but not horrible either. I'd have rated higher if the fried rice had tasted better. I'd be willing to go back and try some of the other dishes. I probably will next time I'm in town. read more

I love this place. I know the decor leaves a great deal to be desired, but I don't go there for the atmosphere. To tell the truth, we've always done take-out. The food is GREAT, it's inexpensive, portions are generous, and the service is FAST. You can walk in and place an order, and walk out with it only ten minutes later, despite the extensive menu. While I was waiting for an order one night, I saw one waiter actually *running* to speed service to the tables. Some reviewers have complained about the language skills, but I don't need the staff to speak great English; in fact, I think it's just fine if they don't. These people work hard and give fantastic value, and I'm really glad to have them in the Perham area. FAR better service than, say, Pizza Ranch. read more

We were in town for a bit and decided to give the local Chinese joint a try. Not a good idea. Our expectations were low. We just wanted a quick and tasty bite. The staff was pleasant. The food was fast. The price for lunch was very reasonable. HOWEVER, the wanton soup had a strange canned taste to it that made me a little nauseated. THEN, the food arrived; the canned taste was also on the fried rice. MORE canned greasy taste accompanied the sweet and sour chicken. Before we left, that canned taste had turned my bowels into an explosive medley of nauseating gas and stomach cramps only relieved (twice) on thee olde porcelain throne. I had to race my guest for the one seat suite at the risk of her running next door to McD's to dump and dash.
