Was having, and still am having, serious cravings for good Mexican food, or I suppose Tex-Mex? I really need to have someone explain that "food concept" to me in full detail. Ordered the stuffed Chili Relleno - a large poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and topped with "Spanish sauce" and monterey jack cheese accompanied by rice, beans, and guacamole. It was also supposed to have tortillas but those never made it to my table. To be honest the fact my food made it to the table was a sheer miracle. SO here lies my sad experience the food took near an hour to reach the table, and our server was rather MIA that whole time. The person in charge of chips and salsa for all was spot on, so spot on I think I could have just eaten those and gotten up and left satisfied, ha. By the time my meal did finally arrive I was borderline full, but what little of the food I did dive into was not noteworthy. Whatever the "Spanish sauce" is (suppose I should have asked given such a non specific name) was a no go in my book, the food overall was bland, rice was dry al dente style, and beans had a smoky flavor. Nice building; old school feel from the days when restaurants focused more on the decor. Service was prompt and friendly. But the food was meh. Chips were a bit greasy, salsa was OK but uninspired. The " fajita taco salad" was only a few slivers of overcooked fajita meat and a whole bunch of lettuce. The guacamole was creamed like gravy instead of chunky like guacamole. So I have always wanted to eat here and so after a long fun time at the Mistletoe Market being held at the Lone Star Convention Center, my daughter, brought me here for a late lunch. Was greeted warmly, quickly sat and our waiter was quick to get our drinks. He was very patient as I wasn't sure what I wanted then I'd remembered that they had a sign upfront showing that Sangria Rita's were $3.50 for a 12oz. perfect size for three in the afternoon. Enjoyed our chips the salsa wasn't my thing but I had some. Once we had our drinks the waiter was ready for our order, myself I ordered off the Lunch menu (M-Sat), it was labeled L-10 it was three tamales, a guacamole salad served with beans and rice. Tamales were delicious and the beans & rice were great however the guacamole salad was not really appetizing. My daughter ordered a Mango Rita 12oz and she seemed pleased with her drink. She also ordered the Chicken Fajita salad off the lunch menu, it looked like a good portion for a lunch menu. I taste tested the dressing for it, it had a nice flavor. The only reason I gave four stars out of five was there were tables next to ours still cluttered with dishes from people who had seemed like the had left long before us and they didn't clean them until we were just about done with our food we were there for well over an hour. Their host staff seemed like they were pretty frustrated trying to seat large groups since the tables that could work for the people they were trying to sit were parties of five or more were covered with dirty dishes. I'm glad I tried this restaurant finally but I'm a salsa girl and if the salsa doesn't grab me I usually do not frequent the same place twice. read more

Nice authentic spot but there's not a lot of parking to match the space they have inside. We went on a Friday night and there was a large group of people having a birthday party but the place is so big we were completely unbothered. The waitress was nice and attentive. Reality: Its huge inside, beautiful, great decor. Wonderful, warm inviting staff. Food is real authentic fresh food. Very tasty!!! My boys who are super picky eaters ate all thier food. I only recently discovered this little gem of a Mexican food restaurant. I wish I had discovered it a lot earlier. Located on the eastbound side of Loop 336 North a few blocks east of I-45, Margaritas serves up some of the tastiest Mexican food in Conroe. Servings are ample and always delicious. I can't think of a better Mexican food venue within Conroe city limits. I can't vouch for their margaritas because I haven't tried them (only because I have little ones in my family and I don't want them to EVER see Daddy drinking alcohol or smoking). One thing they don't have that I would really like is the complimentary green sauce that some of their competitors serve up with the complimentary tortilla chips. Hell, if it was good green sauce, I wouldn't mind paying for it. Went back on another visit to Margaritas and tried their stuffed jalapeños. If you like stuffed jalapeños, don't order them here. The stuffed jalapeños at Margaritas are as tasteless as they are enormous. Stuffed jalapeños are supposed to be spicy inside and out. These were bland from their fried outsides right down to their cheap cheese cores. Don't get me wrong, I still like Margaritas, but I hope someday they learn how to make stuffed jalapeños. Today was my first visit to margarita's in a year. They have changed much about the menu and the overall quality of service and of the food. Most definitely not for the better. My fajitas were bland and the queso dip tasted like government welfare cheese. My father enchiladas were the same. Generally passable and uninspiring. The salsa tasted like Pace brand salsa you can buy at just about any store and the chips were stale (so were the tortillas). As a previous regular of this restaurant I am disappointed in the overall decline in the quality of food and service. I am taken back to my early 20's, when money was tight and food was scarce at my apartment. The thought of stale chips was good, because the salt intake and carbs were needed for a college student. I feel like I've been transported to the 70's with the stucco walls and dark lit dining area. Alas! Flaming queso flambado (QF) comes out. The comment to us by our nice waitress, "it's hot" as the flames are about to singe her hair. As I believe I am a QF connoisseur, I do not believe QF should look like an alien on the tortilla. The pungent odor of 151 over-powered the smell and taste of everything else. Cheese enchiladas: My base line for rating a tex-mex restaurant. I mean, how hard is it to mess up cheese enchiladas, but oh Margaritas, did you just that. Hubby had NO cheese in his enchiladas. Rice and beans were a huge failure. Why, oh why did they taste identical?!?! I couldn't tell the difference, besides the texture. Service: Fast and nice, until I told the waitress about the food, then it turned into an attitude as if she made the rice herself. Then to tell the manager in front of us "Ella dice los chips 'stan viejo y los platos 'tan malo"... yes hunny, I understand the Spanish and a little less attitude would be appreciated. This is the only place I miss from Conroe. Lots of great memories here. Including sitting at the bar and watching the Astros go to the World Series. My partner and I use to go do a ton of laundry at the laudromat next door and sip on margaritas and eat chips and queso for hours. The best thing about their margaritas is that they are cheap and WOW do they pack a kick! I could only do 1 1/2 before I would have to have someone else drive. And now moving to Chicago, have realized that these delicious and afforable things don't exist up north! The "best" margaritas here don't even compare. the servers in the bar are great! If you get to know them you get some good deals and "special cherries" (soaked in vodka). Yum. They love to flirt with us and cracked us up! The food was just that typical Mexican food that's been cooked quickly and cheaply. I opted for the fajita salad a lot which wasn't really a healthy salad considering I used guacomole for a dressing. Queso is bland, you definitely have to add the salsa (which is great) to it to get any type of flavor. Probably wouldn't get it again. Service is great. I would recommend they take another look at their salsa. It's time to incorporate some more authentic tasting options. At the very least add a tomatillo based one. So many restaurants are moving this direction and the salsa at margaritas tastes like canned tomatoes.
