One of the best spots in Marfa!!! It's not at all overrated, the hype is REAL! There's nothing fancy about the place, it's a classic hole in the wall, with a decent amount of outdoor seating (no indoor seating due to Covid, or maybe never, not sure). Get any of the burritos, seriously any of them, you won't regret it! Homemade tortillas are out of this world good! Of course get their hot sauce, but I'm warning you it's SPICY (in a good way, in my opinion). If you only have one place to go in Marfa, this should probably be it!! read more

During our trip to Big Bend, we had to make our way to Marfa and try this place. Since we were driving there on a Saturday, I knew that there would be a bit of a line and wait. Honestly, the wait wasn't too bad (about 30 minutes at 11AM). Most people in line kept their social distance and wore a mask, which made waiting more comfortable. The line makes its way into the restaurant, which looks like a converted home. When you make it inside, aside from the mouth-watering aroma, you'll notice the celebrity photos. Many of the celebrities who visited had more than one photo hanging, telling me of this place's loyal customer devotion. When you get up to the counter, there's a whiteboard of the burrito types and drink offerings. We went with a bean and cheese and an Asado (pork with a red sauce). Both were huge and very flavorful. We thought the homemade tortilla was just as much of a star as the fillings. It was great to see the staff making the tortillas behind the counter. The green salsa added some great heat and taste that just added to the perfection. If we lived closer to Marfa, this would most certainly become a weekly stop for us. Highly recommended. read more

Probably the best darn gosh burrito we've ever had. We ordered the asada burrito and el cunado burrito. The place looks like a home. You walk in and there's an ordering window. There's seating in the back yard area. The side green salsa that came with our burritos had a really good spice to it. We love spicy and it was spicy! The meat in the asada was marinated with lots of flavor. I'd suggest dipping the burrito in the green sauce and I added it to the inside of the burrito and the green sauce seemed to lose its bite being mixed in with the asada sauce. You can leave your mark on the fence surrounding the back area as well. They provide markers to write/draw whatever your hearts desire in their fence. Such a neat little spot. Such amazing burritos. We are staying nearby at El Cosmico nearby and Marfa Burrito was one of the few places open on a Tuesday morning. Thank goodness! There were plenty of parking spaces available out front when we arrived. Inside, there is a small window where you order from. You can see the women making handmade tortillas as you wait. The menu is pretty limited, but helps you order quickly. We both ordered the Primo and it was delicious! It is pretty large- about the length of an arm. Definitely more filling than it may look! The burritos come with green salsa and you can grab silverware/napkins/water on the table inside. There are plenty of seating choices available both inside and outside. It's cash only, with each of the 5-6 burrito choices on the menu being $10, it's cheap eats. Order and pay at the window and the food comes out very quickly. The place sits in a pretty divey trailer house with graffiti all over walls and plenty of duct tape on the floor. You can tell it's a favorite with the locals. Wow. This was our favorite stop during our few days in Marfa. From the order window you can see the amazing ladies in the back making the tortillas fresh to order from scratch. The tortilla was perfect! I got the carne burrito and it was a fantastic, no frills burrito with tons of flavor. The meat was seasoned so well and it wasn't overwhelmingly greasy. My boyfriend got the Cuñado burrito which had a fresh addition of pico to it that definitely boosted the flavor over all. The restaurant workers were so friendly and were working hard to get burritos out as quickly as possible. Marfa Burrito would absolutely be one of the top reasons for a return trip to Marfa. We originally came here because of the famous names on the walls - Anthony Bourdain, Matthew McConaughey, etc. We stayed for the unique food experience and the love that goes into the burritos. They were unabashedly what they were: burritos, and they didn't try to be anything else. There are both pros and cons to that. We got the Primo and the Asado. One thing that I really liked was that the tortillas were handmade (totally worth the wait). It had a pretty unique depth to the tortilla flavor, as if it carried the heart and soul of a recipe that's been passed down for generations. The Asado was VERY good. The meat was well-seasoned, relatively juicy, and had good browning on it. It also held its structural integrity relatively well (and if you have good technique, it definitely helps as well). However, I would've liked more depth of flavor to the burrito as a whole. For example, I can see that adding more greens/acidity to balance out the meatiness of the burrito would do wonders for it. Despite both ingredients being excellent, it was just that: tortilla and meat. Nothing else. The Primo was very good as well, but I believe it was a little under-seasoned for me. Try adding additional salt and/or adding the variety of hot sauces they had for us. I think the green sauce worked well with the Asado because the sauce was mild and complemented the meats well. The red sauce definitely packs more of a punch and therefore goes really well with the mild Primo burrito. Overall, it was a decent experience. (We added hot cheetos to the primo to add more flavor. The wait was crazy. About an hour on a Monday morning (Labor Day) at 11. There weren't even that many ppl there, but they have you order and then wait at the counter for food. All assembled fresh to order. But glad I made the trip. The menu is very simple with like 5 options or so. I got the Carne and egg/chorizo. The portions are huge for the price. My favorite part of the experience was the house made tortilla and the verde salsa. It had a nice little kick to it, which I loved. The meat in the carne was pretty well seasoned. I get through this tiny hamlet once a year. Part old West Texas town, part trending and gentrifying art community. Too much of the latter going on here so thank heavens there's still some authentic food culture like this little roadhouse burrito joint with and emphasis on joint! And then some. But wait, darn fine burritos made by hand by two Hispanic women. An entire table dedicated to various hot sauces--we opted for the green one that looked locally made, and was. A good decision. Lots of flavor, plenty of tolerable heat. We split the most expensive one which was loaded with a bit of everything, and good decision because no way one of those was going in this stomach. Big, and then some. On the way out I hand one of the ladies a $10 for the $6.50 burrito, they speak in Spanish and she hands me back a $5. I point out the error, they shrug and say "no change, don't worry about it." So on the table the $5 went as a tip, and I didn't worry a bit. Good idea :) Yea, I love this kind of place. Would I return here again? In a heartbeat, next time I'm driving like a madman from El Paso to Big Bend National Park to hike. So far, appears this place being in Tony Bourdain's last episode hasn't ruined it. The money is pouring into town with the tourism though so enjoy these little joints while you can. Either you *want* to love the place that Matthew McConaughey loves, or you *want* to hate it. We rushed here before our reservation for the Chinati Foundation. There was a line, so while waiting with our masks on we used a sharpie to memorialize our trip on the famous walls where everyone leaves notes. We looked at our watches. We were going to be late to the Chinati Foundation but we smelled the chorizo. We decided to stay. We waited some more. IT WAS WORTH IT. Cash only. 5 egg and chorizo burritos later, we were convinced that this was the right decision. This was art, too, we told ourselves. We went back to ask for extra tomatillo green sauce. Some of us were cute and thought we could have "shared" a burrito because they were so large. No, you will want to eat the WHOLE THING. Put it in your mouth. The whole thing. I found the place no problem, just down from the Marfa Visitor center and the old USO building. Was a little confusing on which door to go in, but I suppose they both get you where you need to be. The burritos were huge! No complaints from anyone on the flavors. I personally had the Asado which is pork with red sauce and thought it was a solid burrito.
