Since the shop changed its name the level of customer service has changed as well. I actually told the front desk two weeks ago that I was there because of my loyalty to the doctor. This afternoon when I went to pick up my order my glasses were given to me in a case that people used to use in the 1960's. Where are the nice cases that the doctor used to give us to protect our glasses? Most importantly, my glasses were handed in to me without making any adjustments to the new frame. The clerk gave me the new glasses in a new pouch and walked back to his computer to look at some houses. Even though I have been going to Visual Aspects now called Benjamin Optical for twenty years I value customer service, therefore I will find a new shop wherein I feel appreciated.

Dr. Rappaport is very caring and uses modern technology to examine his patuents. The facility is clean and very professional. He takes his time to get it right. As a hobby, Dr. Rappaport is a comedian and a very talented singer / actor who donates his talent to children with special needs in the community. His light comedic touches really appreciated and help to remove some of discomforts that can take place during an exam. (Bright lights...Kensington shifting, etc.) The gentleman who fits the glasses is equally professional and patient. I can't phantom why someone would use one of those "glasses-in-an-hour" places. Those can't be precise and crafted with care. I also wouldn't use an in line facility because they can't fit you. I cam clearly see (pun intended) why I will be a patient here for life.

I've never received the level of personalized care and friendly service that I get at Mirkin…read moreVision. Dr. Mirkin is the first optometrist to ever show me the damage I was causing to my inner eyelids by sleeping with my extended wear contacts. All the other doctors I'd been to in the past simply said don't do it but he actually flipped my lids inside out (sounds more uncomfortable than it is) and showed me the microscopic calluses that formed as a result of REM sleep and frequent use. I did listen and now I'm better :) Their optician Dave is wonderful as well. He really understands what works for you based on your face shape, age and preferences and never tries to give a hard sell. He's also great at repairs and adjustments! And finally there's the staff, Leslie and Eileen. There's nothing like pleasant, friendly service and these ladies always make you feel welcome and that you are valued as a customer and patient. Not sure if it's still running, but they had a promotion that offered free regular eyeglasses and a substantial discount off more expensive designer frames in light of the Hurricane Sandy disaster. What a wonderful way to give back to a community that's trying to rebuild...especially because they suffered damage as well. So glad to have found them on Yelp to give them a review! I hope their business continues to flourish.

The place has a quaint, bed-and-breakfast feel. Mirkin has all the right equipment including 3D imaging of your eyeball. Just don't expect a 5-star client experience. You feel like his bedside manner is part of a process to cross-sell you on frames and supplements. The front desk staff is immature and unprofessional for a "medical/health services" type business. They gossip while you wait. Turnover is regular. Every time I go there are new people. You can drive there and pay for street parking but there are a lot of police cars sitting and waiting to give you a ticket. Municipal parking and an MTA train station are across the street. Bottomline: Good to get a quick eye exam and prescriptions. Would probably do much better if hired friendly staff and aligned the bed-in-breakfast feel with the client experience. The feel of the place does not match the drive-through experience. There's no relationship building between the service provider and client which makes you feel like you can get the same service anywhere. Mirkin is a good optician though and will get the job done for you.
