I want to share my honest experience so others can make an informed decision…read more A week ago, bad weather kept my usual meat delivery guy from coming, so I called Wilkes Meats. I told the owner I normally buy a month's worth of steaks at a time. He quoted me a price over the phone that was much higher than what I usually pay, so I told him I'd call back. About ten minutes later, he called me saying he was closing early because of the weather and offered me approximately 26 steaks for $445. I agreed. When I arrived, the first red flag was that there was no meat in the display cases at all. He brought out a whole cut to show me before slicing it. While cutting, he wore no gloves, which I noticed, but I figured I would wash the steaks at home anyway. That night, I cooked one steak. It had a strange smell--different from anything I've ever gotten from my usual supplier. I thought maybe it was my air fryer, even though I always cook steaks the same way. About ten minutes after eating, I had diarrhea and vomiting. The next day I still felt sick, so I only ate bread. The following day, I tried another steak. Same smell. Same reaction--immediate vomiting and diarrhea. That's when I realized the meat was the problem. I threw the rest away. I called the owner to explain what happened. As I'm telling him everything, he's quiet. Then he says, "Come up Monday and we can work something out." I told him I didn't want more meat from him--why would I risk getting sick again. His response was basically that replacing the meat was all he could offer. I told him I would dispute the charge with American Express and leave an honest review. He said "OK," so here I am. I spent $445 on steaks that made me sick twice and ended up in the trash. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this place. If you buy in bulk, be aware: in my opinion, it felt like I was given older meat they were trying to get rid of. A butcher doesn't want to throw out product, and unfortunately, I believe that's exactly what happened here. I'm not a butcher or a competitor--just a customer sharing what happened. If you can, avoid this place, especially for bulk purchases.

!!!!What a horrible and disgusting service. Horrible customer service and they give your food away…read moreto other clients!!! I placed two orders over a week ago. I get an email late last week saying that my order is going to be ready for pick up on a date but fails to provide the date. I called yesterday at 11:52 am to confirm when I can pick up. The lady on the phone said my order was in fact ready for today but because of very bizarre business hours (7-2) I asked if I can pick up on Wednesday morning instead. She said yes no problem. Today I get a phone call (1:20pm) and I called back a few minutes later (1:23pm) as I was in between patients. The lady on the phone, KAYLA, told me that my order was incomplete and had out of stock items. I whispered back, as I was in the clinic, saying I'm confused why my order was complete yesterday but not today. I followed up by saying as a customer it is concerning to me that it seems like my food is being given to other priority clients. KAYLA responded "I do not know" and I said well that's not reassuring to hear as a client. Typically, if a client is skeptical of this grave practice, they would be reassured that the ethics and values of this company does not practice this. However, it was not denied. KAYLA seemed frazzled and said I just got your paper and I said I can't be on the phone anymore please email me with update. I asked if I can still show up tomorrow for pickup and she said yes. I specifically said thank you and have a good day. Six minutes later I get a missed call with a disgustingly toned voicemail (attached below) saying "... let me just say this I do not appreciate you being rude or insulting Any one of my stuff that will not work with us...". I also receive an email regarding the out of stock items. I respond to the email as I was in clinic saying the situation and how I simply had a question and concern that my items were being given to other priority clients. I explained how I was not being rude or never ever insulted someone. I couldn't even raise my voice as I was whispering. I never even complained about the actual items being out of stock. I am appalled that I even received such voicemail. Then, instead of apologizing or offering any type of customer support, PETER was implying that he was able to hear my conversation. Which great!! Because I truly am confused since I was not rude nor insulting anyone. Additionally, how is peter able to hear my conversation if I was whispering? He also apologizes "if that is the case" that someone said my order was ready for pickup today. Why if that is the case? Why are you questioning the client??? Regardless, the concerning part is that he doesn't even apologize to me for leaving such email AND DOESNT EVEN DENY OR ADDRESS MY CONCERN OF THEM GIVING AWAY MY FOOD TO OTHER CLIENTS!! I am still waiting for an apology and for a clarification on this. But I guess no answer is an answers and confirmation that they do. I then respond to their email confirming the substitution and that I will be there tomorrow morning as planned and as per the confirmation via phone today. Then I get a response saying not to come pickup tomorrow until confirmed??? They're truly a mess and don't know what they're saying on the phone and what they're emailing either. Side note, their website advertises that they deliver to my zip code. When asked over the phone and in person, they say no?? They have disgusting customer service and to be honest it's sooooo sketchy and weird place. It's a warehouse you have to go pick up at in the middle of no where. No thank you!! Taking my business elsewhere!! Peter- per your email, if you really appreciated my business is this how you respond or treat a customer? Especially a new one?? Attached below are the proof of the emails and voicemails. Shame that a Jewish facility practices this way.

Jensen Reserve is a farm-based butcher shop and artisan food producer in Walton County, Georgia that came highly recommended by friends. It's not a large place, but offers high-quality, pasture-raised, locally sourced meats such as beef, chicken, and its own pork products from the rare Meishan pig breed. They provide Artisan food products like prosciutto, capicola and dips and spreads you can feel good about consuming. The Owner/Farmer, Laura Jensen, wants you to eat like a farmer everyday! We had the chance to meet her and she explained why she began farming after battling several health issues. It is important to her to offer meats free of chemicals and pollutants. The entire staff was lovely and we had a BLAST talking with many of the customers, some of which convinced us to purchase far more than we intended! Still, we remained conservative because we weren't sure if the hype was truly worthy. But let me offer some assurance from a former Yelp Elite member for more than 13 years... they are indeed worth the hype! [ WHAT WE PURCHASED ] We took home two steak burger patties, 5lbs of frozen chicken breasts, a Teres Major steak, a jar of peach habanero pepper jelly, a block of Havarti cheese, a loaf of cheddar jalapeno sourdough bread, and one container each of their regular chicken salad and the buffalo chicken dip. It was so surprisingly good that we ate the chicken salad and buffalo dip within 48 hours of our first bite! The steak burgers were absolutely amazing and my wife has been really enjoying the sourdough bread. We also had a great date night in our living room with a movie, club crackers, the Havarti cheese and peach habanero pepper jelly. We have yet to cook the chicken or teres major steak, but if what we've already devoured is any indicator, we will be very happy with our meal. They offer freezer packages, half hog & whole hog packages, and everything from a 1/4 of a cow to a whole cow package as well as bulk buys and weekly specials. Their "stock your frig freezer bundle" for $285 fits in most refrigerator freezers with no need for a deep freezer (according to their sign). Now that's smart advertising! [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Not gonna kid anyone, some of the steak prices are uncomfortable, but after comparing some of the organic local grocery chain prices for chicken and ground beef, Jensen meats and other products are actually great buys!
