We arrived a half hour before closing on a Friday evening. In spite of the late arrival, there were two extremely friendly and highly qualified staff available. They were extremely patient and brought out ten pairs of shoes for my wife to try to ensure she found the right ones. A mother and her six year old son with pain in his feet came in while we were there. Although the store doesn't selk youth shoes and knew they would not be able to make a sale, a salesperson took the time to ask a bunch of questions and gave them helpful advice. My feet have changed as I've aged (58) and when I went into Runner's Alley the first thing they told me was to take off my shoes and socks and roll my pant legs up past my calves. I then had to walk away from and towards the woman who was fitting me, several times. I then tried on 4 pairs of shoes and repeated the walking (and also running), and tried them side by side in different combinations, all while being scrutinized for my gait, etc. I picked the Mizuno Waveknit R2. When I went home and read the reviews of this shoe I really felt like she picked the perfect shoe for me. It felt great in the store, and the reviews confirmed that it's the right shoe for me. These are good people and they deserve your business. Also, I have no connection to these people at all besides both my wife and I each buying a pair of running shoes from them. Update... These shoes still feel like the best running/training shoes I've ever worn. When I was a more serious runner I always liked the Mizuno Wave Riders. Mizunos have always fit me well, but these are still the best. I'm not a runner anymore, but I'm on the treadmill three times a week. I can't evaluate them from a runner's perspective, but 10 months later, for what I do I feel they've fit me with the perfect shoe. read more

After getting my foot measured with cool new technology the sales person showed me 1 option at a time and brought out a different shoe with each piece of feedback I gave. This is my 10th pair of running shoes, bought over several years. I started in Keene, then moved to Boston. In both areas, I recieved the same general treatment: I was handed a pair or shoes, rung up, and sent on my way. For someone without a lot of experience, this seemed normal. In training for my first 1/2 marathon, and now that the runs are starting to increase, I began to notice far more pain. In talking with a relative, it became clear that there was a great deal of abnormal wear on my shoes, I had developed a clear bunion on one foot, and I decided I needed to go find a better place to get shoes. Yesterday, I walked in. Within the first minute it was clear the staff knew what they were doing, from "if you have wide feet, why are you in Nikes?" to taking the time to watch me run and diagnose a problem with over-pronation. Within 20 minutes I had the most comfortable pair of shoes I've owned. I can't say how impressed I was by both the service and the knowledge. I'm moving to Michigan, but already know I'll happily fly back to Manchester to make sure I continue to purchase from this store, and I'll certainly be telling everyone I know. read more

On 5/13, I went to buy an "end of the season" gift for a coach. Before buying the gift, I tried to return an unworn, still in the package, pair of compression stockings (that I bought as a mother's day gift); was advised that the 30 day return window expired on 5/9. No return allowed. A WHOPPING 4 days late!! Save the hassle of parking downtown and don't waste your time and money. read more

Runners alley has some good running gear and the staff was friendly, but I would have given it five stars if they had some simple accessories. I needed to find a stop watch ...(I was a P.A. for Current TV for the NH primaries) and they were two doors down from our set on 52 Hanover. I thought a running store would carry stopwatches....but they didn't carry any so I had to go all the way to target in Bedford, NH. Overall the Runners Alley is good for running supplies but it would be five stars if it could carry more running accessories. Just a little suggestion for the manager. I just started running again recently, and knew I needed new shoes. The staff here is amazing and be sure you're ready to run, when you need a new pair of shoes from there. They actually pay attention to how you run, and what they think would be best for you. The woman was helpful, and she found me a great shoe, that fit amazingly, and it wasn't as expensive as I thought. If you're ever in the need for anything regarding running I would suggest here rather than anywhere else. It's worth paying for parking, because you know they're doing the right thing for you. These people know runners! I had gone in for a pair of my favorite brand of shoes (On Cloud), which are only sold in a couple of top notch running stores. I had recently lost my shoes (and other belongings) as a medical student who was in the path of Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean. Upon hearing this, Runner's Alley employees supplied me with a bunch of running and fitness gear as well as helping me find the perfect size & style shoes and other gear. Very disappointed -- I always love to find local businesses that allow me to shop with folks in the community but this isn't going to be one of those places. I wanted to stock up on some energy gel for my ~40 miles of weekly runs - and instead of shopping on the net I called this location to confirm that they offered a case (24 unit ) discount which I had heard about while purchasing some items at the Nashua location. The lady on the phone told me they did have a discount and also had the two product flavors that I wanted in stock. Yippee! So I saddled up the motorcycle and rode up there to purchase 2 cases of product - and after being presented with the bill - with no discount, asked about it. Both the cashier and another employee who were standing at the register professed ignorance of any case discount. I told them that I had called earlier and confirmed a 10% discount - and had also been told of the discount at the Nashua location. In spite of this they reiterated there was no discount. I took my (overpriced) purchase and left shaking my head. Of note - I don't blame the sales staff for ignorance of product pricing details since they utilize a computerized point of sale system which SHOULD have automatically priced the product correctly based on quantity of a particular SKU. What I blame them for is poor customer service - they should have said "oh, let me check with the manager", or "do you know who you talked with, perhaps I can check with her". Nothing but blank stares like I had three heads. This is surprising since this is a niche market where I would have expected stellar service since there are only so many runners that want to take the time to visit a store in the central business district where parking can be problematic. Anyone coming in to buy a couple of cases of a recurring need item (like energy gel) would have stars above their head if it was my sales staff. Great opportunity to engender loyalty to the service and product selection. Missed on both counts. I won't be back. Next time I will order on-line from Eastern Mountain Sports and pay 30% less for a 2-case order. Shipping will be free and I'll save a few dollars on gas and aggravation expense. read more

I'm running the Boston Marathon for the first time in April and earlier this year came in to buy some good running shoes. The people there knew what they were talking about, let me freely try on and test shoes and more importantly were PATIENT with me. I love my shoes and like the fact that I am doing business locally. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because there were boxes of discounted shoes that weren't presented as an option and I love a bahh-gain (but they did discount because I am running the marathon). They watch you run and make suggestions as to what shoes they think would work best for you. Their prices are competitive and depending on what health insurance you have, they can offer you a slight discount as well. They know customer service and they do it well. I am from Florida, I emailed the manager explaining I was flying in from Florida and wanting to get new running sneakers, she stated thats what they do and come on in while in NH. As I am new to running I wanted the right fit, right size and right running shoe for my feet since I run on the balls of my feet and always get blisters.
