I used the Maple Valley KinderCare for several years. The people at KinderCare care about the kids and work very hard. The care provided was good. Other reviewers are right - there are few options in Maple Valley for childcare. I believe that I was treated rudely, dismissively, and condescendingly by KinderCare management on a daily basis, over a period of several years, because the location director has a low opinion of divorced single fathers. I believe that the location director empathized with my ex wife who also used their services for our child as part of joint custody. Bottom line: Your kid will be well taken care of. Divorced single fathers may need to endure an abrasive provider for the sake of their child. read more

Unfortunately, this is a small town. The options for daycares with transportation to school from before/after programs is narrow and limited. So, after having our son enrolled in another daycare due to being misled to what school he would go to-we had to switch over to this care center quickly. Well I have to say, this has been incredibly disappointing. The enrollment process is daunting and unclear in many ways. I found that the floor plan for this location which is basically an open floor concept, creates distracting limitations for the kiddos. My husband and I also have taken note that the staff seem to be overwhelmed and sort of in slow motion-not very appealing when you have a youngster with big energy. I wonder if there will be backlash for writing this as most people write reviews after an experience has passed but I'm not one to decide on expressing myself based on fear. I'm incredibly disappointed in the start up of my sons enrollment regarding costs, too. We were told as our son was starting the first week with only 3 days due to the Labor Day holiday and the day off on Friday (so that we could take him/pick him up from his first day in Kindergarten)-that our payment for the first week would be for 3 days only. Moving forward of course, his tuition would be for full time care. This was executed in a conversation as well as on paper. Pretty straightforward. It should be mentioned as it was in that conversation that, if full tuition would be due for the first week than we would have started his enrollment the following week but were prompted by the director to get our son "acclimated" to the new daycare. Unfortunately, I am now in an email thread going back and forth with the Director who seems very confused and going back on what she quoted us just last week. We are in a bind because this is the only daycare that we can find that provides transport to our sons school and both my husband and I work FT. I cannot stress how badly Maple Valley really needs to expand on childcare options for families with kiddos in school. The limited availability is putting families in compromising positions. The center Ezrah spent his first years in was amazing-The Giving Tree (writing a review next). Ezrah is now expressing how much he misses them, misses his friends and doesn't want go to the new daycare. Sometimes you feel like you fail your children and with this all adding up, I do feel like I have failed him. Darla seems to be (for a childcare provider), cold and all business. It's unnerving. If you do not HAVE to enroll your kiddo here, I wouldn't. Up the street there is a fantastic center called "Kid Country" and while Ezrah was only there for a month-I can tell you it was fantastic and the staff there are warm and loving. read more

I moved to this state with my two young kids and left a daycare I loved that we had used for 4 years and both kids. I selected another daycare and pulled my kids after a day for one and a week for the other. I started them here and it is great! They have low turnover which is a top priority for me. My first went here until she started kindergarten. My second has been here for 2 years and my new baby is about to start. I have another daycare center across the street from my house, but I drive across town to bring my kids here. read more

I took my daughter here today only second time attending (her second day) my husband is deployed for a year. We go through a military assistance program for financial help during his deployment. It is a great resource through child care aware of America. However only on the second day dropping her and unaware of the amount I owed the center (12.75 to be exact) after being confronted by Darla the director and told that I couldn't drop my daughter off until I paid them! I never got the amount needed to pay from them at anytime from the day before to the "second" day ever attending this center but she made sure she belittled and chastised me in front of my almost 6 year old daughter asking me to drive back to Enumclaw to get my checkbook! She humiliated me and was the most unprofessional human I've ever had any contact with. This is the proper attitude and behavior to display around children? I felt as if I was walking into a cold uninvited environment. I'm so beside myself I do not want to go back but until I get alternate care I'm stuck for a month Single mom basically while my husband serves his country and this is how I get treated At a loss for words read more

My toddler has been here for a year now and I can say I am very happy with the daycare. They're curriculum's are wonderful my child has learned so much and quickly every month I can definitely tell what he's learning each month because all the sudden he'll know all of his colors or numbers or animals. The teacher's are great I am thankful to have them always communicating with me on his progress or issues that need to be worked on as well as the manager's they're always in communication with me and are always willing to work with me on everything. Not a place to take your toddler. I addressed concerns about my child with them many times and nothing ever got resolved. My child got such bad rashes that she had blisters and I had to keep her home until they cleared up. They were only changing her diaper 2 or 3 times during her 9 hours there. The teachers clearly cannot handle the amount of kids that they have to take care of. Nice people, but I am not happy with the care that was recieved. After a month of going there, my daughter still screamed everytime I dropped her off because she hated it so much. read more

My little one has been going here for about 5 months and we are very happy. The staff, the facility, everything. My little one loves her teachers and I don't worry about her during the day. The parking lot was a concern for me at first but it's rarely totally full. They have been flexible with our summer schedule and we are very appreciative. The staff are all very nice and friendly. There are not many options for childcare in Maple Valley, especially with transportation. My son attended Kids Country for a couple years. After learning that they could not transport him to and from school, we found Maple Valley KinderCare. After signing up with them as a last resort, I lost my job. Not knowing what position I would land I paid them to hold his sport for I believe a couple months. During this time, I received a call saying they could no longer hold his spot even though I was paying. I didn't understand this since I was paying them for a service I was not using. The Director got on the phone and then said well as long as you keep paying. This put a bad taste in my mouth. After all this, I got a position that would be a work from home job. I used the service for a week and a half during training and no longer needed it. I let the Director know on Wednesday vs. Monday, she said I still needed to pay for the next week because I was not giving them a week notice. I was two days late. I asked for her to apply 1 of the 2 weeks vacation and she still replied with half of the week is due or they will send me to collections because I didn't give them a weeks notice for that either. They don't seem to care about the families. The facility has a smell to it and my son said every night "when I can be done going to that place". If you have the option, GO TO KIDS COUNTRY in Maple Valley. They are 100 times better than this place. read more

This is an AWESOME daycare. Staff turnover is very low, child care education is supported, and this is a career for most staff, not just a job. The teachers are loving, personable, and keep you updated on your child's development and the memorable moments you missed while at work. My 4 year old has attended for 2 years and my 4 month old for 2 months. IF my son cries upon drop off, he is IMMEDIATELY scooped up and comforted. But most days he is excited to go to "play" school and often talks of his teacher and friends before falling asleep at night. Bottom line - they CARE about your kids. I would rate it 5 stars, if better food was provided (organic, free range, grass fed, etc). Rick S.'s experience is unfortunate, but getting sick is par for the course at any daycare or public place - especially if your toddler is in the "explore everything with my mouth" phase. They disinfect toys, tables, etc every night, if not multiple times per day. My infant has not been sick once since he started. And they discount tuition, if you notify in advance that you will be absent for 5 consecutive days. They charge you when you don't show up because the awesome teachers still show up and deserve to get paid. Furthermore, their cost of tuition is far more reasonable than the other daycare we attended. I am so happy our neighbor recommended this daycare. It is one of Maple Valley's best kept secrets. read more

Best preschool/daycare ever! I should've brought my son here when he was 3yrs old. We went through couple of schools since my child was 3yrs old. All of the ladies & teachers here are just so great and nurturing with the kids. My son just loves Ms Julia. She's so loving and supports learning to each child's personality. I researched many preschools and daycares, and let this review save you the worries like I had. Also, if your kid has special dietary needs, they will accommodate. Stay away from this place if you want to keep you kid healthy! My Daughter was sick for over 4 weeks after going here 3 times. On top of that they charge you if you kid doesn't show up. What a racket! We stop going because my kid is too sick, then they say they have a two week cancellation policy. This center is a business, first and foremost. It's a corporation that preys on parents' concerns and love for their children by promising a multitude of seemingly heart-felt, child-focused care. Most of the time, they are so understaffed that they are able to offer only the most minimal level of curriculum requirements. Your children do not receive the instructional care that the manipulative pamphlets and brochures claim to provide. Teachers are not paid a living wage, and are expected to make most of the curriculum's teacher made materials on their own time at home. Unfortunately, there is high turnover. The pay is awful and the physical and emotional demands are great. Despite exhorbitant tuition rates, most KinderCare centers receive free food from the government. Be sure to inquire about the quality of meals and snacks provided. While technically nutritional and meeting of federal standards the food is often processed and bland, and certainly not organic, etc. The Maple Valley center director is a business person who is working to keep a full center. Their are dollar signs floating above every child's head, and they can turn on the charm to recruit another family to meet their quotas. When calling about infant care, they will always say that they have a rare opening, that is only available for a limited time. Do your research if considering this center. Ask about meals, about the consistency of staff and curriculum, about child-teacher ratios, meals and snacks (do they have kitchen staff, or do they borrow staff from classrooms?), and stop by unnanounced to ask about childcare. You are more likely to see a true exhibit of the general character of the staff and center overall. Be wary of the director. They are salespeople, and will make a lot of money if you sign your child up. In-home care is much more flexible, is held accountable by the state, and often offers a more genuinely loving and consistent environment for your little one. read more

I'm a service member deployed away from my entire family for a whole year. We were able to get child care assistance for our youngest daughter and I left knowing everything was set prior to my deployment. Then I get a frantic call from my wife who stated that the KinderCare Director, first name: Darla, was so unprofessional and rude that she belittled her in front of our daughter! She also gave my wife false information regarding the child care assistance and demanded money upfront without properly checking the paperwork. This childcare provider has demonstrated to our family (and hopefully others) that if they hire unprofessional directors who care only for money and not care for the children, must be reported. I will be filing a formal report with the Washington Department of Human and Health Services (HHS) to ensure they audit that KinderCare location to ensure our children receive only the best care and professionals who run them. I highly warn people to do your research and if possible think about where you want your child(ren) to be watched and more importantly who is watching running those facilities. read more
