This establishment focuses on farm to table ingredients so their menu changes from time to time. They are only open a short time a day for dinner 5-9pm, which I think I should make a reservation to have dinner on my last day in town. Parking lot has limited space but told that you can park around the vicinity of the resturant: the village market, the hardware store or the Clerk's office in the back are all good parking. Saturday night in June, a rainy day, the resturant is not as full as excepted. We arrived at 6:50 and our table was ready for us. For our appetizer, we ordered the salmon patties, Mac and cheese, and the tuna ahi. Salmon patties were salty. The tuna ahi were good. Mac and cheese was the highlight. It was creamy and not salty. For our main entrees, very dish have the same sauces, veal demi glace, the brown sauce on the satueed beef, the pork chops, and the meatloaf. All taste the same. For my dish, the scallops were super salty. $30 I have to share them with my family. The best was the grilled pork chops. Cooked perfectly and very moist. While I fell for the concept of the restaurant, farm to table, the food was really just ok. For the price point, my hopes were up for better tasty food. Beautiful space and very friendly welcoming staff. We split a burrata which was very good fresh heirloom tomatoes had good texture. For entrees we both got the burger meal. The bread couldn't support the burger properly and was splitting and falling apart. Aside from that I personally found the burger lacked flavor. It was good just not for $19 in my opinion. What a gem! Came here for the first time on a Friday night for dinner, I highly suggest to make reservations, this place gets packed! 5/5: The decor is super cute! You walk in and you feel like you are at home! Seating is outside, inside and near the bar. 5/5: Waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. 4/5: I wanted to try everything! My husband and I ended up getting to share the bowl of mussels that came with bread. I love the juices that they made with the mussels, it goes really well with the bread! I ended up getting the Maple Soul Cajun Shrimp & Grits ($26). The bowl was massive and I couldn't finish it all (easily shared by 2). I really enjoyed the flavors, not too overwhelming or overpowering. My husband had the pasta with fish and shrimp. Sadly, he didn't enjoy his dish as much as I enjoyed mine. The shrimp was a bit overcooked and somehow the fish was undercooked. They serve wine and beer only. The beer list is pretty extensive! I really enjoyed the Cab I got. What a cute little gem of a restaurant centered in the quaint VT town of Rochester. My boyfriend and I went for dinner Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We started with the beet salad and cornbread for appetizers. I will be dreaming about that cornbread until we are able to have it again. It was SO delicious. It seemed to be pan seared to perfection, toasty edges and served in yummy local honey. I had the ricotta gnocchi with Cajun shrimp and it was tremendous. When Jen welcomes you in to Maple Soul, you know you are going to have a wonderful experience. Olivia, like Colleen, is a fantastic server -- attentive without being intrusive! But seriously, if Jim served the food cafeteria style on metal trays we had to eat in our car, this place would STILL blow your mind. Not sure how he does it, but the hush puppies are even MORE delicious than ever. And the gnocchi .... Fantastic. Topping the pillows of yum with Cajun shrimp provides a great counterpoint to the velvety cream sauce. The desserts never disappoint either. The waitress was top notch. She gave her recommendations at our request and we were not disappointed. The food (Cajun Shrimp & Grits and Baby back Ribs) came to us fresh and hot! The meal was very disappointing. Based on the other reviews we expected so much more. Perhaps we went there on an off night. - We ordered beef tips. They were rubbery, chewy, and flavorless. "One of the worst meals I've ever had," my spouse said. - I eat Cabot cheddar almost every day so I expected the Cabot cheddar mac & cheese to be just as good as my daily obsession. The cheese sauce was a great consistency and the noodles were cooked well, but the the star ingredient did not hit the mark. I was astounded by how little flavor there was. Adding salt and pepper at the table did not help enough to salvage this dish. - We ordered two salads, a side green salad and a caesar salad. The side salad was decent; it had lots of veggies and met expectations. The caesar salad was boring. Didn't know the dressing was on the bottom of each bowl until we had already noshed on bare leaves. The caesar dressing was very thick (mayonnaise consistency) and tasted overwhelmingly like roasted garlic. - We also had a gnocchi dish with chicken, arugula, mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes. The gnocchi looked homemade. Overall, this was a good dish. - We had a mussels appetizer served in a broth with focaccia on the side. This was the best dish on the table. The bread had great texture and was nicely grilled. Our complaint with the mussels was how it was served. It came to the table in a bowl but we were given appetizer plates to eat it on. A dish with broth can not be enjoyed on a plate with a fork and knife! It should have been served with a bowl and spoons. Apps Fried green tomatoes - outstanding. Must try. So flavorful and delicate. Heirloom burrata - the tomatoes were shining on their own but the burrata was a knock out. Main Rack of ribs (half rack is sufficient if you get an app but if you have a hearty appetite you can prob polish off an entire rack) Chicken was tender with a fine crisp to the skin. This place shocked me on a hiking trip I took to Vermont this time. Very low key and definitely small town in atmosphere, with the farm to table look and feel. But get ready.. We were passing through town and decided to stop. Boy are we glad we did! Believe the hype. I'll be honest I was getting a little antsy waiting 10-14 minutes but it was worth the wait. We got take out, brought it to our AirBnB farm cottage a few miles away, enjoyed a nice Pinot Noir with our grilled cornbread appetizer, house salad, and the main course of smoked delicate squash, mushrooms and pecan farro. Absolutely incredible! We were visiting and knew we had to visit because it was farm to table and we ended up back for a second night. It was busy and we didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar with Jen who was lovely and attentive. We are very picky with where we eat and we were beyond impressed. The ribs were some of the best we have ever had but we forgot to take pictures. The gnocchi is a must have, a complete flavor bomb with the goat cheese. Literally everything including the chocolate cake is perfect. I will be back to Rochester specifically to dine here again. It's a true gem and made the yelp top 100 in the country ranked at 47. Updating my review from last year. Since last year, we have dined at Maple Soul multiple times whenever we are in town for dinner and the food has always been on point and delicious. Make reservations beforehand as it is a small / medium sized restaurant and there aren't many tables for larger groups. Best for groups of 2 or 4. There is a nice large table that sits larger groups that overlooks the kitchen which is always fun to watch. A few suggestions but the menu choices changes with season. 1. Must order the appetizer dishes - our favorites have been fresh tomatoes, chili wings, beets, and the hush puppies. 2. Entrees sizes are very filling and if you could share a few entrees do so as many of the dishes are amazing. Our favorites are the Roasted Chicken, Marinated Beef Tips, Gnocchi, Wild King Salmon . 3. Order the seasonal Desserts as they sell out fast. 4. Order a craft beer. We are huge beer geeks and this place has a great variety of craft beers locally and nearby as well. Some of the favorites that have come up recently included beers from Wunderkammer and Red Clover. If you enjoy wine, the wine bottles are reasonably priced although we do enjoy beer when we dine in. If you have a kid like I do, they do a kid's size of the mac and cheese which is delicious and creamy. Even the kid size was too big for our almost 5 year old as we find ourselves helping ourselves to her dish since she can't finish it. We have thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and it's not just the food. We had a chance to chat with the Chef and the servers. Some even got to know my name or recognize me! it builds a nice community and we look forward to dining here in the future and trying out some more new dishes the restaurant puts out. Came here with some friends the other night for a late dinner, make sure you call early for a reservation because they will run out of some food options. This is an adorable little farm to table restaurant, with friendly staff, and a great craft beer/wine list. Eating here is like eating at a neighbors house, so homey/relaxed. Their menu is always changing, so they make sure to keep things exciting. The food is fantastic, presentation is flawless and they are really quick with getting you your food. We started with some apps, wings and poutine fries. Both were elevated bar food, the wings crispy with a great Asian sticky sauce. The fries were lightly tossed in a gravy with tons of stringy locally sourced cheese curds. For the main dish I got the wagyu meatloaf which was wrapped in bacon. Smokey, tender, fall apart texture so good. It was served with a side of fluffy mashed potatoes which cut the richness of the meatloaf Lastly I got the scrumptious key lime pie topped with maple whipped cream, which was great. read more

My wife ordered gnocchi, which was a generous portion and wonderful. I asked Jen her recommendation for an entree to which she suggested the half rack of ribs, which is what they're known for. They were the perfect consistency with a not overpowering sauce. I finished off the meal with an apple pie served chilled with a good amount of fresh whipped cream, delicious as well. My husband and I were staying in Rochester This last 4th week and were bummed at how Pitcher in had changed and lamented at how the Woodstock Inn's food was meh. New Yorkers through and through, we felt boxed in. We had already cooked in more than 3 times. My husband said let's try Maple Soul. I was not enthusiastic. It's newish, a few places have failed in this very location and I feared it may be cursed, as NY restaurants can sometimes be. It came down to no choice but Maple Soul and so by default we drove only a minute into town and took the big food risk. Can I just say, I was humbled, surprised and beyond happy at this mighty little gem along the White River. True to it's word, farm to table was the order of the night, even the lettuce seemed picked that day and extra EXTRA good. That was just the lettuce! Sounds ridiculous, but there was just this palpable difference. We ordered the local Burrata and roasted tomato salad, and a jazzier version of Caesar with bacon and anchovy's. Both were delicious, although Chef Jim, the artist in the open kitchen could lighten up on the garlic. It was still on my tongue the next morning. Then my husband ordered the Monk Fish with Jasmine rice in a spicy curry that was subtle but had a kick to it. This dish as well as the burrata were blessed by flecks of the day's fresh picked flowers and were visions to behold. I ordered the Tail Feather Farm Beef sirloin. This was cooked to perfection and served with portobello mushrooms with a veal reduction sauce. Parts were tender, parts were less so but I forgave the sirloin. The buttery wine and presentation as well as the enthusiastic Chef Jim, just made it okay. Olivia, our adorable and knowledgeable waitress then inquired if desert would be on order. Well, I adore apple crisp and they had a bourbon apple crisp so I was got a bit excited here BUT, what is the topping made of. Flour and sugar is my favorite and how may grandma always made it. NOT with healthy oats. Yuck. Olivia reported back that indeed, it was flour and brown sugar. May I take a moment to absolutely gush over this apparent town favorite. The locals love it so much they demanded it remain on the menu all year round, not just winter fare. Boy am I happy they did! Just a real wowie! All in all, I'm giving this a 5 star rating as the best kept secret in the White River Valley. I hope for less garlic in a salad and less chew in my meat but let's not be NY snobs about this. If you ever find yourself around Rochester, VT you MUST stop in at Maple Soul. My friends and I were in town for a weekend of snowboarding but dinner at Maple Soul was the highlight of our trip. A little out of the way from Killington/Pico but well worth the 30 min drive. Hell, I'd drive from Long Island 5 hours just to come back here. Maple Soul has a charming country interior in this home turned restaurant. It's a small place with big heart. There's a dinning area and bar when you first walk in with a great beer and wine menu. We enjoyed our appetizer by the bar while we waited for a table. We had the poutine (delish!) and the fried calamari that was prepared in a Vermont maple syrup and was one of the best things I've ever had. Towards the back they have a central room with an open kitchen concept where you can watch the chef work his magic. And work his magic he does. It's farm to table in the most literal sense. All key ingredients are locally sourced from the poultry, beef, dairy, and even the flour. The menu changes daily and all creations are the brain child of Chef Jim. On the menu that evening was a pistachio crusted lamb chop sourced from our waitress's family farm, a grass fed black angus burger sourced from a single cow, and Vermont grown baby back ribs. My crew enjoyed the black angus burger baked with blu cheese, the baby back ribs smothered in homemade bbq sauce, VT sharp cheddar Mac and cheese with collared greens on top, shrimp and grits and the fish and chips. We're still talking about our dinners the next day. AND THE PICKLES! You guys... I'm not even a pickle fanatic but these pickles were off the hook. I want to love this place because I believe in supporting local businesses. First time there was a month or so ago and the food was fantastic, however, our $$ steaks sat waiting to be delivered to our table until the rest of the food for our party was ready for 5 minutes (our table was 1 yard from the food window) and by the time it was set before us, medium was medium well and potatoes and steak were cold. They willingly offered to redo our entrees however we didn't want to do that our party of 6. They comp'd our entrees. Last night, just my husband I went. This time we sat for 45 min after ordering our apps and entrees with no food when the waitress finally came over to apologize that there was a glitch with the computers (though everyone around us was getting their food) and we reordered our food. The apps arrived shortly thereafter and were delicious (my husbands scallops were piping hot but the purée they sat on was luke warm). Then our entrees arrived and instead of serving me gnocchi with Cajun shrimp, the waitress brought me shrimp and grits. They looked good but not what I ordered. So, while my husband enjoyed his steak frites I had to wait for them to remake my order. Gnocchi arrived piping hot but alas - there was no shrimp. They did comp my entree and gave us a dessert (we took one dessert to go) but it spoiled the experience having all these debacles. I've now had two experiences and two entrees compd. We still tipped 20 percent because wait staff have to make a living and everyone is struggling a bit these days. However, I'm reluctant to try this place again with two experiences like that in a row. Everyone makes mistakes and they were very apologetic. The waitress should have checked in with us sooner than 45 min after we placed our order. After getting my entree wrong once, it should have been perfect the second time around. Please train your waitstaff to be more attentive and invest in a food warmer lamp. A bit disappointing. read more
