We started visiting Rutland regularly two years ago from NYC metro area, and are so glad we found West St Grille! We have frequented since, and can say confidently that this neighborhood restaurant cares immensely about the people they serve and the food they make. The menu is a wonderful mix of familiar comfort food and innovative new specials, all very well executed. Our favorites are the dry rubbed wings, their collection of fresh salads, and many of their creative tacos! We most recently also tried their blackened shrimp risotto special, and were impressed by the dish - large shrimps, perfectly made risotto, with a healthy dash of spinach...absolutely delicious. The staff is always kind and attentive, the drink selection is extensive, and the atmosphere/decor is delightfully eclectic. My 4 and 7 year olds also loves coming to WSG, because of their fun kids menus that offer a variety of kids entrees...they ask to come back even though I make them eat extra vegetables every time. One thing to note, the restaurant does get packed with people and reservations during some events and ski season, so make a reservation online to avoid being stuck waiting a long time! P.S. Great food, service and atmosphere. I recommend the burger and potato skins. They are a little pricey but the quality food is worth it.

The last time I ate at WSG was a little over two years ago, so I can hardly call myself a regular. But I might just become one. Nothing has been lost in those two years. The food remains good to excellent. It's a relaxed pub atmosphere, with friendly but not intrusive wait staff. The prices range from pub fare to two star restaurant pricing. The prices are fair for the offerings. This time my partner had the burger which he liked a lot (though he regretted not ordering the turkey dip, which is being dropped from the menu for the summer menu.) I had the pork osso buco. I have always made osso buco with veal, so I was intrigued. I'm also in the middle of oral surgery that makes chewing...shall we say challenging? But no worries. The meat literally fell off the bone and the sauce was delicious, a rich, tomato-based affair. The photo is from their website, but mine came with what was described as a parmesan risotto and some nicely prepared, halved butter carrots spears and what appeared to be deep-fried tortilla strips. They were a nice texture contrast. I thought the risotto was just rice. Good rice -- I liked it -- but I didn't find it to be particularly parmesanish. I really think it's a mistake not to do a true risotto. This needed to be creamier. But I nitpick. The kitchen is good, and turns out solid, delicious dishes. I enjoyed a nice banter from the waiter that was never too much. He even comped our dessert when they were out of our first choice. I will absolutely return. read more

West Street Grille opened in December 2022 in the former Little Harry's Restaurant in Downtown Rutland. This bar and restaurant serves up an interesting variety of small plates, large plates, salads, soups, chowder, and desserts. Some of their offerings include tuna poke & wontons, roasted beet & burrata salad, New England clam chowder, chicken cordon bleu eggrolls, wings, crab cakes, enchiladas, pork osso bucco, ravioli diablo, scirocco burger (short rib patty), NY strip steak, bone-in pork loin, stuffed chicken with linguine, and others. The bar offers 3 beers on tap including Foley Brothers (brewed locally in Brandon), mixed drinks, and cocktails. There is a TV over the bar and another TV with a Bruce Lee and Bob Marley posters on each side on the back wall. There are lots of mini liquor bottles decorated on the top of the bar area. I stopped by West St Grille recently for a light dinner. I was asked if I had a reservation when I got here, which didn't seem to make sense since the dining areas with a few tables and plenty of high tops was not crazy busy. I proceeded to the bar and took a seat there with 4. Couples were arriving here and they were offered high top tables only since three regular tables had diners. The bartender promptly took my drink order while I decided what to eat. I went with the Cubano ($18 plus tax) which came out to me in under 10 minutes. The good sized Cubano had lean pork loin, carved ham, melted Swiss cheese, pickles, and a spicy mustard on a toasted French baguette bread (crisp on the outside/soft bread texture inside). The semi thick fries were hot and crispy, salted too. The Cubano sandwich was very good and not greasy like at most other places. I finished my food quickly since I was hungry from the long drive. The check was $19.80 with tax (cash price) or $20.35 (credit price) before tip. I definitely paid cash and all good! read more

Had a lovely meal here about a week ago. Restaurant had a few tables full and people at the bar. Our waitress, Melissa, was a 10+. She was knowledgeable and engaging. Attempted to go back a week ago. Walked in to an empty restaurant- one table had people and 1/2 bar was empty. Were told that 17 people had reservations in 20 minutes and that we couldn't be seated for 2 1/2 hours. Seriously- that's likely 4 tables, leaving more than 1/2 restaurant empty and 1/2 bar empty. We were a party of 2 and were told that sitting at bar or a high top was not available. So if you don't call for a reservation- good chance they will turn you away. Fresco Taco happily offered seats at the bar or a table in a mostly full restaurant and service was outstanding. West St Grille won't last. read more

Opened only a few months... I have dined there a few times. First couple of times they offered a "Happy Hour" whereby items from their small plate section was 1/2 off. This was advertised on the Facebook page. I went for the 3rd time beginning of May and was told happy hour was only during April. Interesting nothing was posted on their Facebook page or on their website that happy hour was just a trial in hopes to get folks in....but that ownership decided to discontinue it. I would have thought it would have been something they would have kept since nobody really offers happy hour in Rutland....but be that as it may West Street Grill discontinued a good thing. Also in April well spirits were one price, and in May another. When I asked about that, both owners said nothing. Anyway, while the clientele and owners are personable...prices are too high for what you get. read more

We stayed in Rutland for a ski weekend in Vermont and found this gem of a restaurant within walking distance to our rental. The staff is very friendly, drinks are strong and delicious and the food was exceptional. The burger is one of the best we've ever had. On night 2, 5 out of 7 of our crew got it and all raved about it. Looking forward to returning!! read more

With limited places to go to eat in Rutland a friend and I went to the West St Grill. The place was sparsely populated so I thought that at least the food would come out in a timely manner. Not the case. Our server was great. Good personality, however the bartender moved at glacial speed and the drink pours are frugal at best. The menu is limited in terms of options possibly due to a small kitchen. I had the potato skins as an app and steak and cheese as a dinner. The skins were under cooked and the steak and cheese was borderline steakumm (look it up). I typically give any restaurant a few chances. They are down to one more. read more

Really wanted to like this place, but this is the second time we have had a meh meal. There were four of us and we ordered tomato soup to start, only to be told that there were only two of them, but they did have corn chowder. So, we ordered two tomato, two corn chowder. Moments later the waitress came out and said that the chef was still making the chowder and there was no soup except for the last two bowls of the tomato. Huh? 6pm on a Saturday night? So, two of us ordered the Caesar salad while two of us ordered the tomato. Now, in my many years of dining out, and years of cooking on my own I can attest that a traditional Caesar salad does not have proscuitto. It does have anchovies and croutons and parmesan cheese and no vinegar in the dressing. Edible, but certainly a disappointment. Two of us got the burger. Giant-sized and nothing to complain about. I don't recall what the other diners with us ordered, but no one was impressed. The entrees were just okay. Dessert, two brownies with ice cream and two slices of cheesecake took more than 20 minutes to arrive. There were very few diners in the establishment, and I can't imagine the chef was still making these! Glad we were not in a hurry because it wasn't happening. Really wanted to like this place, but I can see why it's not crowded. Seems like it's geared more towards a bar than fine dining. Little Harry's was superb, and I so hoped that West Street Grill would compare, but sadly this second visit will be our last. For the meal we got, it seemed pricey, but you may feel differently. read more

Visited from out of state and was unsure whether to enter seeing the front entrance. Cracked glass, door needs painting, filthy rug. Inside appears to be a "local pub." Service was great and so was the food. So fear not-enter and enjoy. read more
