Their customer service has improved. However, their prices for an old car and a perfect driving record are still very high. I have all of the available deductions, and yet my insurance premium for the year is one third of my car's value!! My car is eight years old! I have a perfect driving record. This is crazy! Would rate this company lower, if possible. A Commerce Insurance auto client ran into the back of my car, no doubt who was at fault. They sent a claims adjuster who determined the cost to my vehicle was $1500. He authorized me to get the car fixed. In fact, the body shop found additional damage and the adjuster visited their shop and authorized the additional expense. Commerce Insurance has refused to pay the claim saying the boiler plate on the back of the form say the adjuster's approval is not authorizing the fix. Since the insured was driving a rental car, even though she refused additional coverage, Commerce say the rental company should pay. Caught in the middle, the body shop is asking me to pay. MAPFRE is another of those companies only concerned about how much they can squeeze from you, and are masters of customer disservice!! Calls to Customer service, now referred to as "customer disservice" are routed somewhere outside the US and connections are horrible and the people barely speak English. There are no supervisors and they provide no customer service they only want you to pay everything before they can discuss why you wouldn't pay because of their customer disservice. Then I was lied to, in e-mails, when they said they tried to call me but were unsuccessful. I told them there were no calls and asked for a screen shot of the alleged calls to me, there were no missed calls, no messages and never a response to my request for the screen shot. I honestly have not looked at my policy in years because I have no accidents except for a rear ending 4 years ago that I was told did not change my insurance. My driving record for 14 years is otherwise completely clean, and I just realized that I was paying $1,200 per year for my insurance. Called Geico, got the same coverage for $660/ year. The sad part is that on my policy statement for Commerce, it says "Loyalty member 11 years." I don't think there are any rewards for being a customer for 11 years at that rate. read more

Completely shady company. One of their insured crossed the middle line and I had to swerve to avoid direct impact. She took the mirror off my car. They sent a small check with no explanation after I made my claim. Husband called and they said, "Yeah, you'll get the rest when the mirror gets fixed." Tried to call THREE times (left messages on the day it was getting fixed to let them know) NO return call. Now they won't pay the rest.....crooks. I was reviewing my coverage selection page before my renewal and noticed a few errors...1) My motorcycle annual mileage was listed as 999,999 miles per year. ?? 2) my auto was listed as having a "lien" (was paid off 3 years ago)... also 3) my motorcycle was being valued at $17,430 still , even though it is 16 years old.?? The corporate office says these changes have to be made by the "agent" who wrote the policy, so I call my agent- the phone doesn't even ring..it beeps and hangs up. I have recieved some good customer service through this agency, however, the claims department for property damage and injury need a major cleanup of their employees. After many bad experiences with my claim representative, in tears I asked to be transferred to her supervisor. She said he would be out of the office until a certain date, BUT that he felt the same way she did and I wouldn't be told anything different. Then I asked to speak with someone else, and she told me that she would tell everyone in the office to not entertain my request and transfer me back to her. This employee is the rudest person I have ever encountered and has no sympathy, which is sad because she deals in injury claims. She dismisses any issue and will not restate anything for clarification. She has in a round about way called me a liar and is just so rude. I have had many issues in getting anyone to reach out to me and return my phone calls. I was told this might get some attention, so I hope that is true. This is absurd and I am amazed that this person is allowed to work for this agency while treating their customers so poor. With employees like this, no wonder the overall rating is so low! read more

A game to get as much money out of you as they can! Mapfre insurance started out good until I bought a car and changed the coverage to full coverage. It all went downhill within the agent and the customer service. I felt like it was all a game. I called the agent to cancel my old car for my new car. Was charged one-hundred for that. Next month I called the customer service company complaining about why I was charged that extra one-hundred, from which I was unaware that would go to the agent (not the service). So I asked the customer representative "if I was to call you and not the agent would I have been charged one-hundred?" she said "no". (I was at disbelief and distrust towards agents, I felt betrayed and the worst thing was that I could not get those one-hundred.) I stayed with the mapfre, as it would be easier than looking around (Biggest mistake) and the representative was pleasing. My monthly premium payments began under two-hundred, I was not to concern. Then the next 6-month renewal came and the price went up by about fifty dollars more. Yes, I called my agent to ask them why I was being charged more. They put me on hold stating that they needed to check the system and paperwork and that it would take a few minutes. Thus, I stayed on hold for a five minutes hang-up and call the Mapfre customer service directly. (Guess what they said) they immediately answered and asked me to call my agent as my agent has those answers. I explained that they could check on my policy documents and so they answered my question and said: "not sure but it might be a new policy within California that cause the fees to go up." Frustrated I went back to my old policies read every single document and found nothing regarding increase due to state restrictions (Oh but I found out I was gendered as a MALE, not a FEMALE). I felt dumbfounded and again betrayed and stupid. I waited for that month to be over cancel my insurance policy. Well, that cancelation never went through to them, apparently, my agent never sent the cancellations. So I asked the agent, what can be done because I will not pay the following months fees. She told me to speak to the agent, (Why would I do that if she couldn't do anything anymore...dumb) and she was nice enough to inform me that if I didn't get another insurance to request my cancelation I would have to pay the next months fees. And to my disbelief, the agents that helped me get no bad reviews or write-ups. And to top off the bad experience: the company registered me as a 'male' in case you didn't know males get charged more than females! I am angry, upset and discontent. I had to constantly call the agent and the customer service who both had different answers. (They should be able to complement each other, not make me feel like a therapist trying to organize both their instructions.) I got into an accident 3 weeks ago and have had nothing but bad experiences with MAPFRE. I wasn't informed of any process and any time I called to find out information, I was spoken to with attitude and the woman I spoke with was very passive aggressive. I wish I took down her name. Could've been Megan. The agent that was assigned to me, Patrick, never returned my calls, so I had to continue to speak to the rude woman. They never forwarded the video of the accident that proved I wasn't liable to the other insurer, Amica, prolonging the whole ordeal and meanwhile not knowing if I'd have to pay for this rental. I only found out I wasn't liable through the auto body shop, or else I never would've known. Keep in mind, I pay them and they've done nothing to "fight my case". On the other hand, Amica had the best costumer service and I was not even their client! I was the one they wanted to prove liable. I will be switching to Amica. MAPFRE, do better!! The leads who think they're the boss act like they own the place. The biggest issue is management. The couple managers I've had should definitely NOT be managers. You can't ask a single question or you get spoken to!! What crazy hell is that?! Everything is so backwards it's crazy! Everyone always talks smack behind everyone's back about each other and they'll smile right to your face. It's a very toxic place to work at. I'm seriously disgusted with this insurance company. I rate it -5 stars. Thankfully I documented almost all of my calls with notes and recording the whole thing. This is a very dishonest company. On 11/15/2017 one of their drivers rear ended me. The case is cut and dry that they are liable. I've been without my car for almost 3 weeks and late last week, I was offered an ultimatum, and neither of them were good. Either $1900 to buy off my car, in which case, I can't replace my car in this economy, or 1700 to keep the car and they bail out of the repairs that THEY'RE liable for. If I keep my car I have to file for a salvageable title with the state AND fix the car myself out of pocket! As of now, I STILL don't have my car. The appraiser they called was rude and did his thing without my presence and DECLINED MORE EVIDENCE when I offered him more. They're refusing to pay punitive damages for the psychological impact this whole thing has had on me and claim that they only restore the car to it's previous condition from before the accident which now they're refusing to do. The adjuster didn't call me and sent me to voicemail everytime I called and when I DID get her, I got her on tape LYING that she never got my call in which case I left 2 voicemails within 24 hours. She denied getting my voicemails. The ONLY reason I got her all times I called her was because I blocked my caller ID. I'm now seeking a lawyer to sue them and I'll be calling the FTC. I WILL be going to the newspaper AND will contact a media person. I will drown this lying company and once again, I recorded them so they can't lie their way out of it. I was recently denied for my total loss claim!! I had full coverage for my vehicle. My loss accrued on Jan 4th they barely gave me a decision yesterday. I had to send in my phone records, bank statements and consent to run my credit!. An investigator came to my home to take my recorded statement. They made me feel like a suspect rather than the victim smh. They said they denied my claim because their investigation shows that my car hadn't been driven in a "long while" before the fire accured, which is total BS!! My car was my only means of transportation for me and my kids. I have evidence supporting my argument. So i will be taking them to court. I promised a wonderful Mapfre employee named Pam Dion, that if she managed to light a fire under the a sses of recalcitrant Gilbert, Arizona Mapfre paper-pushers and got the settlement I won in arbitration moving along, I wound change my previous 1-STAR YELP into a little better position. Now it is 4 YELP STARS. Praise God that He did not forget about me. In May 2016, coming home from church, (!) a bleary-eyed pill-popper who lived at Loma Palisades drove his truck up a hill but did not manage to make the turn. He smacked straight into the side of my little VW Beetle convertible that my son had just bought me 2 weeks prior. I was not hurt because I managed, at the last minute, to swerve towards the sidewalk but my poor baby car took a direct hit on the back panel. My frame ended up being bent and my electronics were all out of whack. But at the scene, this doofus had to explain to the lady cop why he tried to run and move his car from the scene after neighbors started to come out to gawk at the accident, He said he was "afraid" that they would attack him after what he had done to me. The opiate-addicted commercial driver ADMITTED FAULT! The lady cop said for me not to worry, that "his insurance company would have to pay since he admitted fault at the scene." NOT SO! This is Mapfre after all. The bane of every decent driver who has had to deal with them. The Gilbert, Arizona office played games and strung me along. Eventually, I learned that there driver turned this all around after he found out no police report was written since no one got hurt. He now was denying culpability and was saying I HIT HIM! He also went into hiding and would not answer his cell phone. Eventually, my claim against the Mapfre driver was denied by Mapfre & Icould not afford to carry collision insurance on my own. I took this hard because it meant that I had to ride my bike everywhere and then rent a car on the weekends to go to church. Googling the under-the-influence driver found me his hot dog cart business and I sued him (& his business) in small claims court. I also asked the court to subpoena the police lady to confirm Mr. High as a Kite's confession of guilt. This proved to be too much for the lizard as he had his girlfriend send me an excuse to delay court due to his "having to enter a medical facility for a 2-month treatment program." (aka REHAB.) I changed the date to accommodate his "treatment" and then a few weeks ago, Geico, out of the blue, called my son and told him Mapfre had done subrogation and submitted the case to an independent arbitration judge to review. GUESS WHAT? I won in arbitration that heinous Mapfre set up and the judge claimed the pictures show the truck hit my VW and that the pill-popper did admit to be liable! I was so surprised. I thought I would have another battle on my hands in March at Small Claims Court to go after this dirty dog and then I would have to attach liens against his hot dog cart, when I won. I now understand why this accident had to happen. God wanted me to get this dangerous dope off the road, which I did, before he hurt OR KILLED more people. But that did not salve my bleeding bank account or broken down car. After a month of waiting to hear if Mapfre would FINALLY make me whole, I got tired or waiting and started calling around the Massachusetts office. Kerri Mullen told me she had passed my case file onto Pam Dion and I got Pam's phone number. This wonderful woman answered the phone & heard my tale of woe. She actually HAD COMPASSION! The first person ever at Mapfre to show that trait to me. She promised that she would expedite my file and send an emergency request to Gilbert, Arizona to get things moving. By finding helpful Pam, I was able to avoid having to go through the Calif. Dept. of Insurance to force Mapfre to pay me. I got a phone call the next day from Danette who started processing payment where I could FINALLY be made whole and able to fix my car, that now has a salvaged title. The point is, as BAD as it can be to deal with insurance companies KEEP TRYING. Keep calling around and maybe you will get lucky like I did and find a beating heart and warm blood on the other end of the line. It is a long shot and probably almost an impossibility but Praise God I now have the ability to get my car into the shop & restore it to good running order. And Pam Dion, Thank you for all that you did to help make this happen! read more

I've been a customer for at least 13 years, according to their paperwork. I haven't had an accident or anything in nearly 20, so in all that time I've never needed them for anything. That all changed when someone ran a red light and smashed into me. I called them that night and all seemed well. They asked some questions, took the information about what was going on, and I was told someone would contact me the next day with next steps and to go over what the process would be. I hear nothing. Days go by and still nothing. I needed a rental at that point so I called them to find out, and after much time waiting got an answer as to what I needed to do. It's not until 9 days after the accident that I get an email regarding the appraisal, some PDFs that were made up using a free trial of PDF software of all things. I still get no call, so I call back in, again, to find out the process of getting my car moved to the repair shop I've chosen. Pull some teeth, get the information again and then I make those arrangements and hope that finally some progress is getting made on getting my vehicle fixed. We now fast forward through 11 days of what I now know to be the usual silence. I finally see some communication in the form of emails. I'm at first hopeful but when I open the emails I find that they're nothing but surveys asking how my experience was with the claim experience and the repair shop. (?!) Does this mean my car is fixed? I call the repair shop to find out the details at which point they, AND NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANY THAT I PAID FOR 13+ YEARS TO BE HERE FOR ME WHEN THESE THINGS HAPPEN, informed me that a supplemental appraisal had to be done and that the insurance company had deemed my vehicle a Total Loss. Not a word of communication, not a call, voicemail, or email letting me know any of this. I send an email to the claim rep I'd heard from once to find out what's going on on 12/19. I'm told THEN about the total loss, and that I would hear from the total loss team member who my claim had been reassigned to by end of day on 12/21. 12/21 comes and goes and, you guessed it, nothing. Nothing over the weekend and then 12/24 comes and, you guessed it, nothing then too. When I got home from work on Christmas Eve however I did have a letter in the mail from them letting me know that as of 12/21 (so I get the letter informing me of this 3 days after it happened) that they're no longer paying for storage fees at the body shop and I would be responsible for paying anything after that. WELL MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME, since the next day was in fact Christmas, there's at least 4 days I'm now responsible for paying. I still, for the record, have not had communication of any sort from my new claim rep. The day after Christmas I now have to take time away to call in again, as is now usual, to try and get in touch with this claim rep to find out what the hell. She actually answers the phone, presumably by accident at this point, offers me a much-to-low payment, oh, and drops the awesome nugget that in 2 days they're no longer paying for the rental. Now I have 2 days during the holidays and end of the year to what try to find a new vehicle while at the same time negotiate a reasonable payment for all my goddamn trouble? I send a follow up email on 12/27 to get details on how the payment offer was reached. Should be a fairly easy to answer question. Want to guess when I got a reply to that? If you guessed January 3rd, a full week of rental fees later, you'd be correct! The saga continues on. I know there's been a lot of riddles in this review, but one last one. Do you want to guess who will not be my insurance provider ever again? You guessed it, MAPFRE/Commerce Insurance. Needed insurance for an apartment building. Get a good rate from MAFRE Insurance. Buy it. Couple months later after they inspected the property, they "Recommended that we change out all the electrical panels in the units". I take it for what they say "Recommended". 2 months later, our agent calls and says we MUST change out all the electrical panels. I explain that they said "Recommended". 1 month later after responding, am told change out the units or the insurance would immediately be cancelled. They seem to have a problem with the English language. "Recommended" is not "Must Change". Needless to say, but am looking for a new insurance company that understand the language. Yes. We changed the panels because we upgrade our units anyway. Just hate BS!! read more

I am giving Mapfre 3 stars only because I have had several claims (my house is partially rental) over 15+ years. The first 2 claims went fine - the deductibles were cumulative (so much off because it is water, so much off because of something else, etc) but this was explained and the claims paid. This is the way insurance should work. My recent claim is not going so well. My rental unit was vandalized to the tune of over $70,000 (the tenant removed walls, ceilings, flooring, doors, etc in a 2 day period when I wasn't home, then moved out). I submitted the claim, the pictures, etc. The adjuster viewed the damages and he stated that he would not recommend paying the electrician (even though the now non-existing wall and ceiling clearly showed hanging electrical wires), and he judged the damages at around $20,000 to $25,000. He stated that he would submit his report to the claims office. Please note that I reported this in March 2021 and the property was viewed in May - this delay was NOT the fault of Mapfre. I was informed that the claim would be paid once the work was completed (in other words - come up with the money to do the work and then the bill will be paid up to the amount the adjuster decided the damages were). It took almost a year (yeh, Covid) before the work was completed, since I had to come up with the money to pay the contractor before he would continue the job. The work was substantially completed in the summer of 2022 and I so informed the adjuster. I noted that under my policy I was also entitled to lost rent. The adjuster stated that she needed to refer this part to someone else (this was in January 2023). I have called her and e-mailed her numerous times since, asking that at least she pay the damages so I can complete the minor items that still need to be done. I also want the name of the person she gave the claim to in January to determine lost rent. She has not paid any part of the claim, nor has she ever responded to my phone calls or e-mails. It is now July and this claim has been ongoing for 2 years with no end in sight. My next step is to contact the Division of Insurance and let someone from there handle it. read more

I got into a car accident one month ago and nothing has be taking car of as of yet. My rental expires in 2 days and no paperwork has been completed. I've never been in a car accident before and this experience has been the worse. The claims adjuster and total loss adjuster have not been helpful at all during this process... I feel like they just want to fuck me over. My car was hit twice in one accident by the same person and they are considering it two accidents... what kind of shit is that?!? Would like to give them 0 stars if I could. They made an error on my policy that they claim was a "systems error" and dropped my collision coverage and never notified me of this change, but claim that they sent a letter and apparently they even made another error when they sent out my coverage letter in the mail and put the dropped collision coverage under a glass coverage so that I didn't see it. Was then wacked with a 600 dollar bill in the mail for "backdated" coverage. Said they can't do anything about this bill because apparently it is my fault that I didn't call to check and see that they were doing their job. So I have called both mapfre and american commerce and nothing they can do. Well gee where is the customer service? Where is the communication? I have got to be charged on something I didn't know about. The supervisor I talked too was rude and clearly tried to say well we already discounted you on your Bill cause we couldn't backdate it more. Wow lady thanks for doing me a favor! This insurance company is the worst I have ever delt with and will never deal with them again for as long as I live. New customer not even a couple months in, just started doing business with them , someone at fault hit me, I contacted them and had car appraised at address I was staying at for that day , now instead of helping me process my claim with what should be an easy process, they've now placed a hold on it for a fake trumped up garaging issue now created by them to try and raise my premium to city costs as opposed to focusing on the claim at hand and working on my behalf to resolve the inconvenience and are refusing to help me out. All this because I chose to have it appraised where I was at for that day as opposed to my garaged address on file. Insurance payers beware, claim adjuster Justin Woods won't even return my calls and dis-connected me , even after leaving messages and sending emails there's been no correspondence on his end to help me resolve the accident that happened where someone else was at fault. They're not even the ones paying the claim in the the end smh. You think these insurance companies have you you're back but all they're really focused on is how they can gain to profit from your loss , they're not looking out for you or your best interests at all just themselves especially this company. People need to be made aware, may not fix the issue but it's a start. After resolution one way or another I will be looking to take my business elsewhere at this point. Want to pay people who work for you not against you, this place is something else. read more

Be careful if you own an old house or own dogs they can come out and cancel you and you will be left looking for new insurance. They have a list of dogs they won't allow . After 15 years of no claims they decided my house was too old and when I fixed then they noticed the dog rule. One more year then they will break up with me. New rates to keep for a year were about 4 times as high as before. read more

I enjoyed my time with Commerce/MAPFRE for several years, until I had to use their services. Bad luck struck in 2013 when I backed up and found another car in my blindspot. No damage to my solid SUV but the other car's fender crumbled like tin foil. The claim was paid. About 16 months later I was parked next to one of those "yellow poles of death" outside the post office. I never left the car and forgot that the short cement pole was hiding just outside my door. When I backed up the pole easily removed my headlight and much of the fender. My fault, but a common accident, I've since found out. Prior to these two incidents I had not had an accident in over 20 years. In any case, the claim was paid, but then MAPFRE chose to double my premium. I simply got new insurance elsewhere. I guess MAPFRE no longer considered me a good risk. Too bad. By the way... what the hell does MAPFRE mean?? It's really a terrible name for the company. read more

Want good customer service? MAPFRE is not the place to go. My claim adjuster, Erica G., who's supposed to be on my side barely even talked to me, I left voicemails to call me back and even emailed her. No responses, had to call and have to luck for her to answer. All the Call Center employees are rude and wouldn't give us answers just the run around. It took MAPFRE 1 month to even make a decision on my claim. After my car was fixed, the collision shop who MAPFRE recommended... had a accident with MY car. It's been over two months now and I now understand why insurance companies get bad reputations. MAPFRE do better. read more

I have had a couple of small claims over the last 3 years (windshield and then bumper damage in a parking lot) and have received outstanding service and customer support. They were efficient and very timely in their responses to both me and the body shop. I have had them as my auto (2) insurers for many years and have nothing but praise for their coverage and service. read more

If you are looking for a company to take your money, this is the company for you! As far as representing you after an accident, complete waste of time. Someone drove into my parking lot at work, destroyed my jeep, and left me without a vehicle. Now, as someone who has been paying for insurance for years, I unfortunately didn't have any experience with filing claims. Over a week of my time wasted dealing with mapfre, only to find out I needed to deal directly with state farm ( the driver's insurance company and my new one) because they never contacted them. They did consider my jeep totaled and take posession of it for a salvage auction, (for more money they could keep for doing absolutely nothing for me), and to top it off, continued to take money out of my account...for a vehicle I didn't have. Only advice to someone who needs an actual insurance company, find someone else! read more

Got hit from behind while at a dead stop at a red light, and they managed to find a way to work it out with the other driver's insurance company as a no-fault accident. I couldn't get the damages covered (~$2000) without taking a massive premium increase. It was cheaper just to pay out of pocket. Promptly cancelled my policy. They decided to turn off my electronic payment before my last bill was due, so I couldn't pay the last month. Rather than just let me pay it online, they decided to send out a collections agency. Why make us all go through all this trouble? Why not just let me pay it online? I had the same experience as nearly every other reviewer - everyone I talked to from this company has been rude, unresponsive, and annoyed that I was calling them. My parents began this policy for me when I was in high school, and I was too lazy to put in my due diligence and switch to a better company before it was too late. Never again. Literally the worst insurance. I had someone hit my car that had this insurance. They totaled my car while it was parked. The guy tried to hit and run but his car was totaled as well so he got maybe 20 feet before it died. MAPFRE tried to act like it was my fault and it took 3 months for them to finally pay out. They claimed my insurance company was to blame. They lied, dodged calls, and by the time it was all over I had probably spoken to their entire team because each person that took over the case was apparently unqualified. read more

My car was taken in to a body shop but I wanted to get it fixed at the bmw dealer since this is not a cheap car plus it is an engine issue. After they towed to bmw dealer, we just can'tget hold of anyone!!!!!!!! They are just dragging time and saying that the dealer never sent them an estimate but they are saying that they will not pay more than whay they (their 3rd party) estimated at the bodyshop earlier!?!? Well the reason I pay these premiums every month is for you guys to deal these situation and get my car back to the good condition. I don't care how much the other party estimated becuase im not going to put an used engine on my car and I have the rights to choose the place to get my car fixed!!!! read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would. It is literally the worst insurance company ever. I would never be insured by this place but unfortunately, the woman who hit me is. Terrible customer service (no returned calls, emails went unanswered, rude adjusters). Outright lies ("We'll tell the appraisal company to call you before they do the appraisal" and called back a few days later to find that an appraisal had been done without my knowledge). Supervisors who are completely unhelpful. I got a supervisor on the phone one time, explained my situation, and asked if he could help me and he said "No, I was just told to take this call". My "borderline repairable car" is still in progress. We'll see what happens but I can guarantee you it won't be good things. read more
