They might be a good insurance company for the people that have car insurance through them but they are horrible for people who have been hit in an accident by one of their insured!!!! I have a renters policy with MAPFRE for personal property stored off premise. The furniture has been in storage since June 2020. In March 2022 my furniture was damaged from water coming through the roof. I was told if MAPFRE even accepted the claim they only pay 10% of declared value less deductible. I was never told this when I bought a MAPFRE renters policy and cancelled the storage units insurance in June 2021. Now MAPFRE says they dont cover water damage from leaky roofs. REALLY! . My Truck has been in the shop for 30 Days now. That is 30 days that I have been paying Commerce an Insurance Premium on a vehicle that is not even on the road due to this stalemate. That is also 30 days of a car payment to which I have yet to even been able to enjoy my car for a full 30 days. My vehicle was only in my possession 7 days prior to this claim as it was just purchased. This time lag however, seems to be no fault on my body shop and yet more stems on the poor response time from not only Him Hat but everyone else involved at Commerce/Mapfre being the reason I have had to endure 30 days of zero resolution. Respectfully so, given that it took Him Hates 5 days to return a call, to which 3 of those days included me continuing to follow up to see "where my return call was" nothing has yet to be resolved. And as of Monday april 29th I got an email saying they would write me a letter pertaining to what I dunno, but I have yet to receive that, still don't have answers on why they won't pay for the rest of the repairs even though they have received multiple letters outlining the exact cost and exact time the extra work would cost and still nothing ! Nothing but problems! 2 weeks and I still have not received a response from anyone at mapfre ! Time for the court to decide, enough is enough! The absolute most horrible experience trying to deal with these people, So they finally came to a conclusion and they won't cover the full price to pay for the damage done to my truck! They want me to pay over 2000$ out of pocket, funny how insurance works you pay them to cover damage or whatever done to your vehicle and they get to decide what they want to cover! I was insured with MAPFRE and they were horrible to work with. I had an incident where some bridge construction fell on my car. It was significantly easier to work with the at-fault company than it was to work with my own insurance company (MAPFRE). The incident left a hole in the side of my car and I live in rainy Seattle so I was eager to get this fixed. When I started the claim I was told I would be contacted within the next couple business days. When my claims adjuster didn't contact me after a week, I tried calling and emailing. I left voicemails and she never returned any of my calls or responded to any of my emails. I was only able to make progress when I escalated via my insurance agent or got her teammates to transfer my call to her. She doesn't answer calls from customers? Anyways after dozens of hours of tricking people to forward me to the right person, I finally got an appointment for an estimator to inspect the damage. The estimator was decent. He wasn't qualified to answer my questions about claims but since I couldn't get anybody else at MAPFRE to help me I'm glad for his guidance. Once I got it to the repair shop, MAPFRE caused me an entirely different headache. MAPFRE insisted the shop use specific used parts that were too damaged to be usable. The shop re-ordered parts 3-4 times that MAPFRE insisted on using, but none of them were usable. The repair was estimated to take 4-5 days but ended up taking a month because of MAPFRE. I wasn't at fault for this incident. I filed the claim with the at-fault company and did all the work to get them to accept fault. Then I gave all the information to MAPFRE to submit to their subrogation department. A month later I still hadn't heard anything, so I called them up. The person on the phone said they received the information but didn't know what to do with it. I had to explain that all they had left to do was to call the phone number to tell them where to mail the check. Seriously? This whole experience was such a headache. In retrospect I would have been much better off just taking care of the whole thing myself without insurance. I ended up taking care of everything anyways, but had to pull MAPFRE along every step of the way. Hopefully others see this and can avoid the headache that is MAPFRE. read more

This is the kind of people that they hire at Mapfre: I just had a service technician by the name of Hassan arrive from Roadside Assistance. Never have I had such a rude technician in my entire life! When I tried to greet him in a friendly manner, he didn't bother to be kind back or even respond when I asked him a polite question. Instead, he was rude and very unfriendly but worst of all he made me feel uncomfortable. He also gave me some very unkind looks and was very standoffish. I don't know if it was my ethnicity, and if he is racially prejudice but I hope this individual doesn't continue treating other customers (who are not of his race) the same way. Just a heads up about the kind of people that they hire at Mapfre Insurance. This place deserve - 2 time in my life I got screw over by this company Back in 2011 someone speeding 40 on a 30 and hit my car . it was totaled and they said it's my fault loss my car and out of money. Today they said it's also my fault, my car was parked and I check my mirror and it was clear no traffic on street. I'm halfway out the car then a car speed into the street and I quickly got back in car and saved my life. The law for opening doors is only do it when safe and doesn't interfere with traffic, I follow everything correctly but can never know when a speeder that doesn't pay attention to the road come by. Made a call for claim and it wasn't their employee they sent it to some call center, tried to tell them everything and detail but was told it's not needed because they are not experts and my claim rep will call me. The person who did my claim made a mess and left out a lot of things and also I never received a call back asking my side of stories and just decided everything. Dealing with Mapfre has been the worst experience I've ever had. I had a pipe burst in January and they only paid $1100 toward our nearly $10000 worth of repairs. They are using a third party adjuster who only communicated with us every week or so and now isn't responding to my emails. He asked to get estimates and when he got them he arbitrarily picked numbers and gave us a check for less than a quarter of what we spent. Now when I contact my rep, he just forwards my email to the adjuster who proceeds to not respond. I understand that certain things are not covered and that there is a deductible, but this company is screwing us. My wife is pregnant and I would like to be doing things to prepare for our coming baby, but instead my pregnant wife and I have been living in a construction site for over 3 months and we have eaten a Gigantic bill that could be used to pay for things for our family. I've had insurance through them/Commerce/AAA for far too long - every year I think I should look around but never get to it. This year they bumped my premium up some $350 for an out of date inspection sticker - something like 1500% what the actual ticket was, and I decided it was time to go. I just happened to get a mailing from GEICO that day (someone at the state offices must make money telling all the insurance companies when a policy is about to expire), so called them first. Their guy told me he could give me a policy for $410, saving me almost $1,300 over Mapfre! I'm kicking myself that I waited so long. A client of theirs hit my van and it is considered totaled. Mercury Insurance has been trying to call them to accept liability. One week - no response. The person who hit my van gets no repercussions? Anyone have any suggestions? Two days later...Mercury is giving me a check for the value of my van minus my deductible. They will now go into subrogation. I hate the idea that I have to lose money being the victim. Worst experience with an insurance company ever. My car was totaled from being rear-ended. The company tried to low ball me on the payoff amount. The claims people never call you back and bounce you around from person to person. They told me that they would send me my paperwork to sign off on and that it would be out in 3 business days. My wife traded her CRV for a Lexus and the premium on the Lexus almost got doubled. I have asked the agent to check if all discounts have been applied. So far not a word though the agent has been very responsive. I feel like something is not right this year. I've been with Commerce for more than 10 years, and I think it's coming to an end! Hello everyone, I've been with MAPFRE a little over 2 years, everything has been great thus far no complaints. Kind, pleasant and helpful customer service always. I decided to do a review search on MAPFRE because I was involved in a very bad rear end collision to my vehicle that left me injured and in the hospital. The at fault driver tried to flee the scene but a older lady and her daughter was able to give a description and partial plate. The state trooper was able to get the suspect and he is now incarcerated. This happened on a 25mph road this guy had to be doing 65 I never saw him coming all I know is while I'm cruising home from nail salon out of no where I'm now trying to save my life from my spending out of control vehicle and trying to hold myself together after the pain I just encountered to my body. This is my very first accident at 31 yro driving since 16 although the officer told me the accident is 100% the other drivers fault. I was looking for people with MAPFRE who had similar situation but was taken care of by MAPFRE with good things to say and insight regarding them, being that this is my first claim however I see that is not the case with a lot of you. I am now worried and afraid instead of feeling secure especially knowing I was not at fault but it doesn't seem like that matters here. I hope my experience ending with MAPFRE close with the 5 stars I started with. I reported the accident as soon as I got home from hospital yesterday but because it was Friday I was told by Tuesday someone will get in contact with me. I am a nurse and caring for others is my Career I couldn't imagine paying for a service and not receiving the care I deserve with such a life altering situation. Horrible service, support, ethics and care for clients. Simply put these people are only out for themselves and there bottom line. My insurance broker had to get involved to provide support because of how un-professional they are. I had a my window broken into and than my vechile was struck by the get away vechile. When I filled the report it took 3 days for them to answer and they initially tried to forgo coverage by advising me to fix the window on my own. I was frustrated with the response and there desire to help. One of the representative who helps me was names Aaron Woolever, he was very unresponsive and the was trying to get me to only pay for window repairs since he believed it would be less than the deductible. After trying to take there advice, which was a naive mistake, I became frustrated with the work involved in finding a glass repair shop that could fix the same day. I needed a car bad and could not go with out having one. I decided to call back in and had to wait 24 hrs before I was contacted by my representantive after leaving several messages. I informed him that I could not find anyone to fix my car the same day and that I needed a car bad. I also told them my broker was going to get involved and that I felt as if they were not looking out for my best interest. He immediately reserved me a rental and informed me I could take it to any body shop. What came after was bullshit. They split my claim into 2 separate claims requiring me to pay double the deductible. The insurance broker who got involved talk to there managers and had someone else take a look at the car from Mapfre physically. He agreed with my statement and saw the damage to the vechile as one claim. I received pressure from Aaron and his department to accept the 2 claims or loose my rental car. After a week of fighting with these guys I decided to just fix my window. They are HORRIBLE, DONT TALK TO THEM ON PHONE GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. They record calls with out letting you know and try to get you to agree to what they are demanding. They will pressure you and will not look out for you. Do not use them. read more

As I suffer through the claims process currently for an accident for which we weren't at fault I find that my emails, voice mails and questions are generally ignored or I am treated as if they are doing me a huge favor for offering me a settlement (how dare I question this?) They act as if it's insulting that I ask for information about how they reached this settlement and dare, as I mentioned, to question it. I am so frustrated with this process. After reading so many negative reviews below, I have to say that at least I don't have to feel as if this horrible customer service is personal. It's just their way of doing business. Great. Is it too much to expect an answer to the questions I asked? Is it unfair of me to question their calculations and/or to ask for the necessary information to make an informed decision about this claim? I am torn between not using anymore of my energy to learn what I'm entitled to, ask (and ask) what I know I should have already been given, do my own valuation research doing exactly what they told me to do and then some, providing them with proof positive that their offer is too low (what a surprise) and getting nowhere OR just give up on getting what I'm entitled to or even something close and just accept their first and only unfair settlement offer. This is what they want. To wear you down until you give up. Ignore, don't answer questions, and use expressions like "this is the only and final offer we'll be making." I'm worn out from this crap. Sat. night I open a letter from MAPFRE saying they cancelled me as of 2 days ago. They say I owe 19.22. I checked emails, no notice or bill, just a confirmation from when I paid online a month ago. I never got anything in the mail. I go online to pay. It says I owe 34.22 and there's some bizarre zip code for me. I try to pay but it gives me an error msg. I go in a different way and the option to select payment is disabled. I call. There's no human service. So now I have a full 2 days left over Labor Day weekend, supposedly with no car insurance. Yes, I am writing about an insurance company. This is not anecdotal experience after a single situation that happened to work out in my favor. Rather, seven years into my automotive policy, I can say that I do not detest, resent, or fear my insurance company. This alone gets a few stars in my book, because having had auto policies with four other companies before this, I could never say as much. But it goes well beyond that. Three people have hit me since I've had this policy, and only one of them was up front about admitting it. One lied about it, another disappeared. Commerce took my side and went after all of them, and treated me fairly. Moreover, they did it with empathy for my situation, understanding when I was confused, and reassurance in the face of my worries. In each case, I got paid at least fairly, and when things got tough, they said, "Don't worry, you're paying us to handle the complicated parts." And they're even friendly when I call to pay my bill. A large corporate entity that treats me well every time I call (for seven years) and always takes my side? I wouldn't have believed it either, but it's true. Should treating me like a customer -- like a human being, even -- warrant five stars? This is 2008, man -- it's worth six. read more

Aha, I FINALLY found a place to warn others of this awful company. I was dropped a little over a year ago for exactly ONE at-fault accident in my 18 year driving history. Yep, you read that correctly. No explanation, nothing. My agent couldn't even figure it out, just that I should choose someone else and be done with it. Not only was I dropped for that accident, I had to get the CEO of the company involved in an email chain because the person dealing with my claim was unresponsive and didn't go to bat for me on another accident that clearly wasn't my fault. I drew a handful of diagrams of the scene and insisted it could never be my fault since the damage happened to the rear bumper. Emailing the higher ups yielded a result the same day but why put someone through this? If this is PART of the reason my coverage was ultimately dropped then good freaking riddance. Avoid them at all costs. Go with one of the larger, national chains that are now serving Massachusetts. I cancelled my insurance plan over two months ago and to this day I'm still waiting for my refund (which they messed up how much they were supposed to refund me twice now and was almost 100$ less than what I should receive back). I LOVE how this lady does not know how to fill out an RMV-1. I TOLD CInda all the lien holder information that they needed to add to this form. HOW simple is this?? She takes down all the information and then submits this to the MA DMV. WHAT WAS THE RESULT?? I received a copy of the RMV-1...where half of the page was cut off but i could see the lien holder information. I said that is perfect but she had to re-do it because of half the page having a blank line. This 2nd page she submits to the DMV AND when I got the copy a few days later.... where it says lienholder code, she wrote NO. WENT FROM A LIEN HOLDER NAME AND ADDRESS TO JUST NOTHING. Just moved to the area from out of state. Called to get a quote for 2 vehicles and renters insurance. Evidently the state we came from only required us to have 20/40. When MAPFRE heard this, they told me they could not give me a quote. A QUOTE!! Their minimum is 25/50. So I said okay, that's fine, I'll certainly buy 25/50 from you then. Give me a quote using that. I'm sorry, we can't even give you a quote if your current policy is only 20/40 !!!! Well, after reading some of these reviews it is probably the best thing that could have happened. Their customer service has improved. However, their prices for an old car and a perfect driving record are still very high. I have all of the available deductions, and yet my insurance premium for the year is one third of my car's value!! My car is eight years old! I have a perfect driving record. This is crazy! Would rate this company lower, if possible. A Commerce Insurance auto client ran into the back of my car, no doubt who was at fault. They sent a claims adjuster who determined the cost to my vehicle was $1500. He authorized me to get the car fixed. In fact, the body shop found additional damage and the adjuster visited their shop and authorized the additional expense. Commerce Insurance has refused to pay the claim saying the boiler plate on the back of the form say the adjuster's approval is not authorizing the fix. Since the insured was driving a rental car, even though she refused additional coverage, Commerce say the rental company should pay. Caught in the middle, the body shop is asking me to pay. Calls to Customer service, now referred to as "customer disservice" are routed somewhere outside the US and connections are horrible and the people barely speak English. There are no supervisors and they provide no customer service they only want you to pay everything before they can discuss why you wouldn't pay because of their customer disservice. Then I was lied to, in e-mails, when they said they tried to call me but were unsuccessful. I told them there were no calls and asked for a screen shot of the alleged calls to me, there were no missed calls, no messages and never a response to my request for the screen shot. The leads who think they're the boss act like they own the place. The biggest issue is management. The couple managers I've had should definitely NOT be managers. I honestly have not looked at my policy in years because I have no accidents except for a rear ending 4 years ago that I was told did not change my insurance. My driving record for 14 years is otherwise completely clean, and I just realized that I was paying $1,200 per year for my insurance. Called Geico, got the same coverage for $660/ year. The sad part is that on my policy statement for Commerce, it says "Loyalty member 11 years." I don't think there are any rewards for being a customer for 11 years at that rate. read more

worst service. even if you have full coverage with rental included, they will not give you rental until your claim is solved. what sense does that make? rentals are for the time being while they solve the case. my wife's car was stolen a week ago and they refuse to give her a rental until they solve her case. which they say could take up to 4 months. what is she supposed to do in the meantime while this company drags their feet in this investigation? investigators are not trying their best to solve this asap and are also dragging their feet, we had to send the police report 4 times. and they have yet bothered to go look at the footage from where the car was stolen from. it's been a week. completely unacceptable. this should have been solved in a week. if you are considering this insurance company, I suggest you pick any other. read more

Completely shady company. One of their insured crossed the middle line and I had to swerve to avoid direct impact. She took the mirror off my car. They sent a small check with no explanation after I made my claim. Husband called and they said, "Yeah, you'll get the rest when the mirror gets fixed." Tried to call THREE times (left messages on the day it was getting fixed to let them know) NO return call. Now they won't pay the rest.....crooks. Will be now having our insurance company go after them.. Complete joke of a company. Actually feeling badly for the person that hit me and considering suggesting she change insurance companies, they are disgusting. Praying my insurance company will decimate them. read more
