I have been with Commerce Ins (now Mapfre) for decades and have a house we are remodeling...their insurance premiums were $700 every three months and were paying this for over a year until I decided to look elsewhere. Ended up calling AAA and agent said he could do better. Well he did...got a policy for $900 A YEAR. Agent said he could do better with vehicle (4) insurance as well as he works with Commerce/Mapfre also. GREAT...he did get a policy for almost $500 LESS...SAME COVERAGE! My question to Mapfre is , How can I have exact same policy with 2 different agents and have a difference of $500 between them?? Shouldn't it be the same price for ALL agents? Next issue is got NUMEROUS mailings regarding policies from BOTH Mapfre and previous agents...confusing because one letter stated my policy was cancelled and in same sentence is stated that it was reinstated!! When I inquired about changing agents I was told by AAA it would cost me $180 to change over...great, do it I said. Received a check (?) for LESS than what it should have been for cancelling (wasn't told I would be GETTING a check to begin with) and was informed it was a PENALTY for cancelling before policy ended! ARE YOU SERIOUS? We pay this in full every year at Christmas time. I changed agents, not insurance company...still Commerce/Mapfre!! In this mass confusion Mapfre cancelled my policy (motorcycle ins policy was another issue I had to deal with) which cancelled my registration on all 4 vehicles that we were driving ...FOR OVER 3 WEEKS! This caused us to pay $100 EACH vehicle to reinstate registrations and a trip to the Registry. After being with this insurance company for decades, I AM ready to change companies for the stress they caused us. read more

This insurance company is by far the worst. My car t-boned by a scooter and severely dented on the driver's side. The driver on the scooter did not have insurance, and after the accident happened I filed a police report. Then, I filed a complaint with Mapfre and everything seemed to be going smoothly. The insurance company gave me a rental and I put my car in the shop. I called the auto shop a few days ago to get a status update and they informed me that the insurance company told them to stop working on my car because they were investigating my claim. The insurance company never called nor emailed me to update me on why they ordered the auto shop to stop working on my car. I called the insurance company and found out that my claim representative had changed as well. I spoke to my new claim representative and he had a nasty attitude and said that my investigation will get started in 3-4 weeks all because when he called me last week at work, I was busy and could not speak to him. He also told me that they will not be paying for my rental car anymore with only 1 day notice. This is bad business. This claim representative is mixing his personal feelings and vendetta against me with business and I do not appreciate that. I am a working women who needs her car fixed asap. I always pay my insurance bill on time. I am super disappointed with this company and just want my car fixed asap. That is my only means of transportation to work. read more

I am a personal injury attorney practicing in Massachusetts for the past 25 years. I have an enormous amount of experience dealing with all manner of insurance companies with respect to personal injury and property damage accidents and I must say that Commerce is by far THE worst insurance company in the industry. Not only is this my opinion, every single attorney I speak to about Commerce concur. In fact when lawyers discuss Commerce, we roll or eyes and because they are laughable. The adjusters are trained to find any reason, whether legitimate or not to deny claims...and in those instance when there are no reasons, real or imagined, they work tirelessly to pay as little as possible and to the extent they do pay, their goal is to delay, delay, delay, and pay as far into the future as possible. This way, your money is sitting in their pocket and being invested by them so by the time they finally do pay, most of the claim is paid with the interest they earn on your money. They are a total rip off not only for third parties making a claim against their insured, they do not treat their insured any better when a claim is made on their own policy. For instance...when you are injured in a car accident, you have up to $8,000 of PIP benefits to pay medical bills and lost wages. However, within a very short time of the accident Commerce will insist that you go see their doctor in what they call an "Independent Medical Examination" ("IME" for short)...these are anything but "independent". The doctor is hand selected by Commerce and paid by Commerce to say whatever commerce tells them to say...and what do you think they say?...right...that you have no injuries or that you are all better. Based on this so-called independent medical report, Commerce refuses to pay any further PIP benefits. They have been sued more times by claimants for unfair treatment than all of the other insures combined. True they may charge less for the premiums, but you get what you pay for. What good is paying less for a policy from a company that has no intention of paying anything on your claim. The policy is worthless and you have been ripped off if you buy it. If you think you are saving money, consider the cost to you of being sued by someone's attorney because your insurance company refuses to pay a reasonable amount on legitimate claims. You are the one that suffers. Not only does commerce have its own law firm doing all of its defense work so there is little or no cost to them of denying claims, I have been told by many people that Commerce claims adjusters and their defense attorneys regularly coach them to lie...and yet the public wonders why there are so many lawsuits and they think plaintiff lawyers are the cause...nothing cold be further from the truth. Personally, I am glad when the public buys Commerce policies because it keeps me busy. If they treated people right, then there would be no need for my services. read more

Worse car/home insurance I will not recommend Commerce insurance to anyone, when it come to car accidents these company is the worse to deal with.. It doesn't matter if you paying for rental car on your policy they will cancel it and not pay for it, they will interview customers face to face making them feel like criminals, a liar and a thief but the customer has to continue paying their premium every month, if you car needs to be repair they will stop any work that needs to be done just because they feel like it.. It doesnt matter if you dont have another car, or if the customers is right, honest and doesn't even matter if the customer shows a police report and has witness for the accident they still give customers hard time, they are rude, unprofessional and not willing to help anyone at all. To them is what they say and the way they say it what counts, everything else it's just waste of time for them.. So if you decide to get this company as your insurance for car/home be ready for all the headaches, and make sure you work it's close to your home and transportation is easy to get because this company will leave you without your car and without a rental.. read more

I had Commerce insurance for only about 2 years when I first got my license. Naturally the policy was expensive, being that I had JUST begun to drive, but Commerce came back with a good price on my policy, but I soon found out why. I was in two accidents while insured by Commerce (NEITHER was my fault, I was hit TWICE) and both times dealing with Commerce was hell on earth. The representatives were very rude, and not helpful at all. They didn't want to go to bat for me when I was rear ended, they would rather have me fight my own battle (Then why the hell was I paying them $2500 a year?!?!). The claims process was EXTREMELY slow, and the damage from the first accident I was in did not get resolved until 3 months after the initial claim. The second claim was by far the WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. The company sent out someone to look at my Jeep since it was in the shop. the person they sent out must have been blind and stupid. I specifically requested they call me so I could be there when they car was looked at, no call. The damage was surveyed and came back that my car was totaled. My thoughts were utter shock. The representative I spoke to was not the adjuster who looked at my car, so he "had to get the explanation as to why the car was totaled" Thanks for the wasted call Commerce, did you think I was just going to accept it with no knowledge of what the report said? Eventually I got a response and the long and short of it was this "the damage came out to $1800 of visible damage, but there is a chance that there was damage to the front axle, and it could need to be rebuilt or replaced" (did I mention I was hit in the REAR, meaning there is a higher chance there would be a problem with the REAR axle) They also valued my car at almost $7000, so im not sure how even if I did need a new axle it would have cost over $5000 to repair/replace, although I knew for a fact that there was no problems with either axle, as my car was not hit hard enough to cause such a problem. I ended up bitching them out until they fixed my car (it took over a month of back and fourth and several mechanics opinions to convince them that the car was NOWHERE near totaled). And the whole time I had to have a rental car. At the end of the process I spent another 2 weeks arguing with them when they refused to cover the rental. That's written into my policy, AND the other insurance company was paying for it because it was THEIR Insured's fault, so Commerce was just trying to take and keep MY money. They are scam artists, con men, rude, and I have begun to actually GO OUT OF MY WAY to make sure people I know and don't know stay clear of Commerce. Commerce insurance is the worst insurance company ever. My catalytic converter was stolen from my car,so I called my agency and they said bring your car to the dealership and get it fixed we will have the adjuster look at it there. My agent forgot to type in her report where my car was obviously because after a week had passed I called the dealership to check on the progress of my car and they said the adjuster had not shown up yet. So I call my agent again and she keeps blaming other people for her obvious mistakes. She told me that I shouldn't let this ruin my day, it's out of everyone's control. I not so nicely reminded her this has been going on for almost 2 weeks now not a day! The adjuster gets sent there finally and I'm told a check is in the mail, get your car. I pick up my car and put the $3000 bill on my credit card while I wait for my check. 1 week later I still don't have the check that was in the mail. read more

Zero Stars! My husband has been with Commerce for 40 years and both of us combined for over 30 years. As soon as ALL of our policy dates are near expiration, we will be looking elsewhere. Our daughter was in a recent traffic accident (her first after 8 years of driving). Because she was so shook up and the other driver intimidated her (screamed at her before the police arrived), she did not clearly explain to the officer what happened as well as she could/should have. Even though the police report was incorrect, we thought Commerce would do their own investigation. The damage to the vehicles clearly tells a different story. Turns out, they only go by the police report. Why then do they ask you to complete your own accident report? 1st call to them they told our daughter "don't worry, we are on your side and will defend you". Second and subsequent calls, after receiving the police report (that we sent!), they are rude and want nothing to do with you. They even go as far as yelling at you for bothering them, not caring that they have brought "their" customer to tears. One woman kept talking over my daughter on the phone, not listening at all. I am so disappointed that after decades as a customer and paying them thousands of dollars they do nothing to help you when you need them the most. They will lose 3 car policies and 1 homeowners because of their lousy "customer service". I do NOT recommend them at all. Sorry to repeat......but such a disappointment! My experience with MAPFRE/COMMERCE was generally positive, even though it took some time to sort out the claims - as the other driver who tried to cut me off just before turning on to a bridge where 2 lanes become 1 lane - rushed to file a claim with his insurance company before I even got back from work that day. The other driver did this even though it was obviously his fault for hitting my car, which was already turning and in the appropriate lane to do so. It was a minor accident with little damage (a dent in my car and a long scratch along the side of the other driver's car as he brushed against my car when trying to get ahead on me on the bridge). After many phone conversations and paperwork explanations it was determined that I was not at fault and the claim was paid. The MAPFRE staff gave me good suggestions about which repair shops to use. Everyone was polite and helpful, and the recommended repair shop staff was great. Of course it was a minor incident and a rather clear situation, and I have no record of other accidents, so it should have been a very straightforward process. I don't know how a more serious accident or more ambiguous situation would be handled, and I hope I will never have the need to find out. read more

My son was in a fender bender with a Commerce Ins customer. It is over a month, and the claim is still not resolved. I have literally received nothing but a run-around from them. We have a witness who specifically stated that the accident was not my son's fault...my insurance company has the recorded statement and have had no issues being in touch with that person. For some reason Commerce "can't" reach her. And the recording that was sent over by my insurance company was "empty." While that may be the case, when my ins company has called over there multiple times, no return calls have been made. I have three children within driving age...and they have many friends. I have already steered one family away from signing up with Commerce because of my horrible experience with them! If nothing else, I will make certain that everyone I know hears my story and decides not to use them as they are looking to sign their children up for auto ins. Several of the agents have been rude as well!!! Just a horrible experience! My ins company investigated the incident, spoke to the witness, processed the paperwork in TWO DAYS. It is over 30 days and nothing from Commerce. Avoid this insurance company if at all possible!!! read more

I have had this company for about two months and I already regret switching to Mapfre. My 18 yr old daughter was driving on a divided highway, at night, going the speed limit of 65 mph, on an unlit portion of the road. She hit a boxspring in the middle of the highway that had already been hit by a state trooper. After hitting the boxspring, she hit the center guardrail, spun across two lanes of highway and landed in the breakdown lane. We do not have collision on this car as it is old. Mapfre, as of right now, is denying the claim, calling it a collision claim because she hit the guardrail and not a comprehensive claim. My daughter did nothing wrong. She should not have to drive on a highway at 65 mph and expect to hit something in the road. If it wasn't for the boxspring, my daughter would never have gotten in to an accident. I have called my claims rep several times in the past two weeks, left voicemails, and have never received a call back from her. I finally called again today, couldn't reach her, and spoke to another claims rep that told me my claim wasn't covered. I was very upset and she said she would leave a note for my adjuster to get right back to me. She never did. And to add insult to injury, the car was towed to a garage and the adjuster went there and told the garage the towing and cleanup was covered. When I brought that up to this rep she said they always say that and they don't really know the circumstances. How incredibly irresponsible and inept! I think my car is still at the garage where it's been for the last three weeks. I thought that part was taken care of as the adjuster said it was covered. What will that bill cost me? This has been a nightmare and it's not over yet. Mapfre has been horrible to deal with and as soon as I can, I am switching to another company. I don't even care if it costs me more monthly, Mapfre does not deserve my business. read more

MAPFRE Commerce Insurance - DO NOT bother...If I could give them a LESS THAN ZERO rating I would! After being loyal customers for over ten years with our home owners and three car insurances with them, we received a letter that our home owners policy will be cancelled as of June 1, 2016, after filing two claims in 2015 for damages to our barn/garage and home during Snowmageddon - they claimed 'unfavorable losses'! Mind you, we have ALWAYS paid our premiums off early and have NEVER missed a payment in all the years we have been with them. Our house had ice damage which we fixed and then our barn roof collapsed, the steel beam just missing one car. (good thing I guess). We had to tear that building down and rebuild which cost us MORE than what we were given by MAPFRE but it was done. Our total claims for 2015 did not nearly come close to the premium payments we have made over the years and yet, they still cancelled us. Seriously? Is this how your reward loyal customers? You were willing to take ALLLL our money but the first time we need to use our insurance, you throw us to the dogs? That speaks volumes as to what you really think about your customers! Even our several phone calls to our agent did nothing - ohhh, wait, they'll review our case if we send them all our receipts but no guarantees they will keep us and our homeowners insurance will double. While they are raking in billions of customer money, they are cutting those that actually use them! Well, as of June 1st, we'll have new insurance and oh by the way MAPFRE, if you think we're leaving our 3 cars with you, you are sadly mistaken. We might not be paying you millions but we are the backbone of this country and your business - next time you should consider that when cutting a customer off at the knees...Good riddance and we're on to your competition! My experience with Mapfre/Commerce insurance has been totally horrible. I have been with the insurance company for over 20 years with not one claim towards them. Every year my insurance has increased both for my home and auto. 2 weeks ago my son was hit on the freeway, and it was not his fault. The amount for the claim was around 1300 which Mapfre took the deductible, even tho they even said it was not my sons fault and sent us the remainder of a little over 500 to fix his car and said they would go after the other insurance company to get the 750 back but it could takes months. We have contacted 7 different people trying to find out what is going on with the claim and everytime have gotten a phone message. Even left a message for a Manager to call us and she never did. As soon as this claim is totally done I will be switching to Geico which is 600.00 less a year for better coverage and I am sure way better customer service. This has been my only claim and has not been fun. Malpfre made sure they got their money and stopped even trying to provide service to my family. My whole family is now going to switch and I promise I will pass the word on the terrible service I have received. Not a happy customer at all with this so called company. read more

I filed a claim with Mapfre after I was rear-ended by their customer. I initially did not want to work with my insurance because of the deductible and thought the process would go smoothly. I needed my car repaired quickly and thought everything would go smoothly because, well, I was rear-ended and with overwhelming evidence, there would be no questions and I would quickly get my claim processed. Nope. After a month, repeated calls to my "claims adjuster" and many days of driving around with a smashed car (I am a tutor and it looks bad on my part when I drive around in this car), I decided, f*** it, this insurance company is completely worthless, and I am going to pay the deductible and go through my collision insurance. I just did that and the day after am going to go get my car fixed. I will retain my collision insurance so I never have to deal with a garbage company like this again and waste my precious time. read more
