POOR MOBILE APP, POOR EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS I wouldn't be informed of due date on my bill not even an email I would receive as a reminder, so I can forget my due date and they charge me a $85 . When I called their customer service she says it is not included with my service, they wouldn't notify me. DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. Why would anyone opt out of receiving email notifications regarding their bill? Why is such thing an option at all? You should be informed/notified/reminded via email about your due date approaching just like other service providers do. I see they just use it as a reason to charge you despite their poor service. I called an adjuster Peter Stephen and attempted to let him know that I had returned a rental, he cut me off and yelled I'm not giving you another extension! I tried to explain that I was confused because the insurance company told me that I was approved for a car that is comparable to my car that was totaled and it will be fully covered. He told me to have the rental company call him. The rental company said they don't talk to adjusters. I am shocked that MAPFRE lets employees treat customers like this. Scam artist; have auto insurance with this company; they lack integrity and are deceitful with their handling with insurance claims. Ended up with a surcharge for self inflicted minor damage and was never told or advised that I might get surcharged and now have this on my driving record and an extra $300 per year for this. They should have offered more information and warned me on the possible consequences for filing a claim, I had no idea that I would get surcharged and that this would go against my driving record with the the MA DOT! I was referred to MAPFRE by my Insurance Agent because I had failed to make my last installment time payment on insurance with another carrier. The former carrier demanded payment of the amount owed and then refused to do further business with me. My payment was literally three weeks late. MAPFRE refused to allow me to make installments on my car insurance. Since that time I have had three cars insured with them. Hyundai Accent- Hit by another driver at an intersection. The other driver, who hit my vehicle at an intersection, tried to move forward on blaming me for the accident. Instead of defending me as the MAPFRE customer, MAPFRE folded, allowed the case to go to an arbitrator, and refused to cover me for anything, including the salvage value of my vehicle which the other driver totaled. Chevy Malibu- Driving on Massachusetts Route 3, I went over a patch of black ice and skidded off the off ramp at Exit 16 in Weymouth. I went over the curb and the tie rod was damaged. I submitted my claim to MAPFRE. They cited all these complex figures and in the end refused to cover any damages, despite my covering the car in insurance over the book value of the vehicle. Volkswagen Passat- A friend of mine hit my vehicle in his driveway in his Toyota RAV4. What we thought was merely a fender bender over the passenger's side front wheel turned out to be a damaged wheel knuckle, tie rod, alignment as well as damage to the passenger's side front end. $1150 for the wheel and alignment. $521 for the bodyworks. MAPFRE uses a third party called Viking Appraisal. Viking is notorious for delays, refuses to call the repair shop, and refuses to talk to insured customers like me. I made the "mistake" of calling Viking to ask questions about the initial appraisal they did and why they did not do an complete appraisal. They ignored appraising the wheel damage and merely did the bodyworks appraisal. I called the guy who left a message on my voicemail back. "Call your insurance company" he said to me. Then he hung up on me. I was then told by MAPFRE that Viking doesn't do a full appraisal the first time out. I was not told this upfront. It was used as an excuse for nearly a month in delays processing my claim. I am so mad I am considering reporting MAPFRE and Viking to the state. Massachusetts takes a dim view of insurance companies that take advantage of citizens of the Commonwealth. I may have to report this to MA State Attorney General Maura Healy, whom I know personally through friends. Companies like MAPFRE have absolutely no right to mistreat Massachusetts customers with fraudulent claims, repeated delays, refusal to cover claims, price gouging, and harassment tactics. Commerce/Mapfre has terrible customer service, and absolutely no regard for its loyal, longtime clients. I have had a multi-car policy with Commerce for 20 years, as well as homeowners insurance, and had not filed any claim for at least 15 years, other than one minor glass claim. When I recently filed a claim after hitting a deer, it took them 6 days just to get an appraiser to my car, and then another 7 days to get a written estimate of damage to me and my auto body shop. Thirteen days from filing of a claim to estimate is ridiculous. Then, Commerce will try to nickel and dime you on their reimbursement to the auto body shop. Commerce is fine as long as you never file a claim; otherwise they are awful. If you don't believe me, just google J.D. Power ratings of auto insurance companies in New England for 2017. Commerce is at the bottom of insurance companies with only 2 stars, which is actually the lowest rating J.D. Power gives. read more

Horrible experience. Price hiked 50 dollars a month more without any tickets. 2 assigned agents to leave the company. Signed me up for renters insurance I never asked for(probably why they are not there anymore plus didnt return my 6 phone calls) Agent on phone stated that they decided to increase premiums in the interest of the company and not the customer. Supposedly California raised their premium which may be true but 50 dollars? I don't drive more than 1.2 miles a day from home to work PLUS monthly servicing fee of $10.00 ( what are they servicing if it's already an electronic payment plus there is no paper invoice). Consider working for a company that makes a positive change not something that makes the world upset. Insurance companies already keep most of our money but want to further take advantage of their customers. Will shop somewhere else. read more

I'll summarize my experience and how each 5 points will contribute to one whole star. 1) Claims department never return phone calls, never answer their phones, or even reply to email. 2) The other driver is at fault therefore this process should be EZ-peezy. No. Not even close. I'm driving around with two broken doors for over three weeks. 3) Their voicemail states "We work as a team;" Good luck with this. MAPFRE co-workers never want to help. Snarky tones and outright dismissive. How do you expect anything gets done at MAPRE? 4) The other driver is at fault therefore I should get free car rental while it takes about two weeks for repairs to be done. MAPFRE rep told me to call the other insurance company and deal with it myself. 5) This goes back to communication. I call MAPFRE on Monday to know the current status of my claims and was told I will be notified around 2pm. 5 days had passed and not even an attempted missed call. Just save yourself the trouble. Once I get my cars fixed I'll cancel this company ASAP. Insurance is meant to help you in time of need but not this company. read more

I pay almost $4000 a year in house insurance alone. We were away for several months and neglected to pay the last 1/3 of our premium on time. Called to get the extra service and late fees removed. I found the same insurance coverage for $1000 less a year. I got a full refund on my house insurance, which is paid annually by my mortgage company. I make monthly payments for my auto insurance. I paid $227 and was refunded $86. They call it a 'short rate cancellation penalty'. My agent never explained this, and I was changing to a company throught the same agent. . Mapfre is a ripoff for auto insurance. Avoid. I am currently filing a complaint with the State insurance regulators. Mapfre produced an in-house valuation report where they deduct for burns, deep gouges, tears, holes, and cracks in the dashboard, seats, and headliner...a dirty engine compartment?...a few dents and dings. My vehicle has none of those, as it is in pristine showroom condition, other than the minor collision damage. When I notified the company of this, they said my only option was binding arbitration. Umm, no it's not. All of the above is classified in the report as "Normal Wear". This is the second vehicle in which I've dealt with Mapfre regarding total loss valuation. The same falsified language was used on the other vehicle, again in showroom condition. Every indication is this is widespread systematic fraud perpetrated on the public. I will be looking for a class action lawsuit against this company. I suspect it won't be hard to find enough burned policyholders to file class action. Unfortunately for Mapfre, I'm in possession of the car, still in pristine condition, for inspection by state regulators and appraisers. I spend a lot of time and money keeping my cars perfect. Don't expect professional treatment here! My truck was rear ended and the tail gate had obviously been scratched up and marred in a couple spots. They used the worse adjuster to look at the damage. They are trying to tell me it was prior exciting damage. A child could look at these marks with shinney metal and know it is not old. When dealing with this company you need to complain bitterly for each scratch or they will screw you. When I called them on it, they told me "good luck". I have USAA insurance, and have since the service, they always act professional and do what's right. Lesson learned. Prepare to fight with commerce for every little thing! read more

I would not recommend this company to ANYONE! BUYER BEWARE! If you get into an accident and is not at fault, like I was they will not work for you. They tried to blame me for 50% of damage even though I was parked and was hit the guy drove off I got his plate number and also had a witness. I had picture of witness plates that I took in front of witness and took his name and number without any hesitation on his part. I gave this information to everyone I needed to after an accident. Maphre reported they spoke with the witness and that information was helpful and hey were able to gather similar information from him as well. Now today Jamie Health my claim adjuster acted very unprofessional started yelling at me when I asked him why I am being charged for 50% of the parts. The parts they are claiming I need to pay for were damaged a lot during this accident. This man became angry threatening to end this recorded call. I told him give me your manager. So he said ok put me on the phone with a Paul Coleman and who acted very professional and helpful at first and apologized for Jamie's behaviors asking he look into this situation more for me. I then was told due to the accident being a hit and run and the man who owns the car denied the situation so for then that's enough to go on. Paul told me that I caused most of the damage. I'd love to know how I did? I was parked mind you in a parking space in front of a restaurant and an insurance agency. This man hits me while I was still in my running vehicle parked and yet this is all my insurance will do for me. They will tell me I'm at fault! So now I have to fit a $315 bill to get my car back. After all my lost wages after this accident and when the accident happened I was working at the time for UberEATS and parked outside my restaurant for the food pickup. I had to cancel and was locked out of app at that point and unable to make money then had my car being fixed for weeks as they tried to get payment. This company doesn't work for you they just want to take your money. I must add I also called the insurance again with my auto body shop and a agent named Vanessa answered and she chose to lie when we asked for her extension and gave me Jamie Heath's instead asked her why and she said that should be the only one I need why do I need hers. Also she then refused to supply information on notes about my conversation with Paul Coleman even though I asked for them saying I want to know what it says. She refused to provide that information and then became irate and spoke over me and my auto body manager as I asked her for her manager and tried to blame me for being angry and I never was. They try to steer the conversation to anger on purpose. Then she rudely hangs up on me when I asked for management several times. Yesterday, I was heading down I-495 in Westford, when a truck in front of me kicked up a rock, which bounced 3 times off my windshield. I called Mapre/Commerce's auto glass line, and they took care of everything in a few minutes. I had the option of a glass tech coming to me, or going into the glass company (I did the latter). Everything was perfectly coordinated between Commerce and the glass company, and when I showed up for my new windshield today, I was back on the road in 40 minutes without even having to sign any paperwork. I couldn't have asked for a simpler, easier experience. This is the third time we have made claims with Mapfre/Commerce, and the previous two occasions they were just as good. They don't give you an argument about anything, they just do what needs to be done to make things right again. Thank you, Mapfre/Commerce! read more

They required me to sign up for autopay or pay double the first premium, proceeded to charge me additional fees each and every month afterwards, between $20-40 extra, they dropped any and all contact with me what so ever mid claim, switched the people handling my claim without telling me, told me that my claim was roughly $1500, then dropped it down to $1000 a month later, then, canceled my claim without telling me to "pursue offenders insurance", then decided that they weren't reimbursing me for the deductible.... at all.... Despite the fact that i wasn't at fault what so ever. Then, after only paying a third of what i was told for multiple phone conversations and washing their hands of me, they have the audacity to mail me a renewal that raises my monthly payments to nearly double the initially quoted amount. Because someone in a rental car took off my driver side mirror with his door. This has, by FAR, been the worst insurance experience that I have ever had. This service was a complete joke and they didn't care about me or my claim in the least. read more

Update: after I posted this review, I was contacted by the company via Yelp, and I was finally given the full refund I was due. Too bad they only did the right thing after I posted a negative review. BUYER BEWARE!!! This company is not a "direct-write" company for homeowners insurance. So, if your agent doesn't do their job (servicing the policy) you apparently have NO RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER (or as an insured) with MAPFRE. I have been getting the run-around for 8 months from this company. Paid $1299 premium upfront for a whole year of coverage. A couple months later, I got a bill for $350. Called MAPFRE and was told it was their error, no worries. I continued to get bills and continued to call MAPRFE and my agent for an explanation. MAPFRE was unable able to tell me why they were billing me. My agent never returns my calls. After 6 months of this, I bought a policy with another carrier and immediately sent MAPFRE my new policy and a cancellation form in an attempt to cancel the MAPFRE policy. Guess what, MAPFRE won't work with me directly! They keep telling me I have to go through the agent. I told them the agent either doesn't return calls, or alternately, tells me no problem, he'll take care of it- but never does, they said they have no options for me. Despite about 15 phone calls to both MAPFRE and the agent, they finally cancelled my policy for nonpayment. So instead of getting the $450 they should have owed me for unused premium, they sent me a piddly $150 refund. I'm out $1100 for the second policy and $300 of unused premium for this MAPFRE policy. Can't even imagine how bad they would have been if I ever had to file a claim. I will NEVER EVER USE MAPFRE or the agent AGAIN. I'M WRITING TO THE MA INSURANCE COMMISSIONER NEXT. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY unless you have money to burn and want a part time chasing after them! You have been forewarned... read more

So I got mail saying I've been in an accident (which never happened) on a day when my vehicle was parked all day. The letter stated I needed to fill up an accident report form and send it back. The report was issued from MAPFRE Insurance. So I went to the police station and they said I need to call the insurance company first. So I called the company and the guy I was talking to gave me wrong make of my vehicle asking if I owned a "Suzuki" which I don't and then after a brief pause he said it was a motorcycle hit and run. Extreemly unsatisfied, took three weeks to receive a rental car. During those three weeks I had to commute from Providence to Newport via bus. Around 4 hour commute each day. Once I received the rental I asked how long I would have access to the car. The Mapfree agent was not able to answer my question which at the time seemed reasonable. I was told I would be contacted with an answer. Over a course of 30 days I had never been reached out to by Mapfree. I then come to find out I had the car 10 days past when it was supposed to be back. MIND YOU, their employee could not tell me when it was supposed to be returned. At the rental lot they asked for a payment of 300$. I told them there had to be some sort of mistake. Sure enough I call Mapfree, I am then laughed at, scolded, and made fun of. I was Sent from employee to employee via the phone seeking a suprovisor. After an hour of trying to speak with a suprovisor I was put on the phone with the agent in charge. The "Manager" proceeded to make fun of me, laughing as he told me I lacked any sense. After asking to speak with his suprovisor I was laughed at some more and told he was not in the office to speak with. I left my name and number to be contacted as soon as the actual manager returned to the office. Over the course of a month I never received any phone calls and began to think they were going to cover the 300. After all I had never been informed when to return the car and the employees made a mokery of me over the phone. I look at my bank statement today and see 303$ taken out of my account from the rental car lot. I will never recommend Mapfree to any friends or family , I'm actually going to advise staying away from this company. After this year I will absolutely be switching insurance companies. To a company more accommodating, more focused on customer satisfaction, and last but not least a company that is professional. Insurance companies are easy targets for people's anger but we had a great experience with MAPFRE. We recently totaled a 2 year old SUV. After everyone warning us that we would get a first lowball offer but MAPFRE's offer was 100% of the KBB value and that was only $2k less than what we actually paid for it 2 years prior. And they included the appropriate sales tax on top of that. They were reasonably quick and responsive considering it happened over the Thanksgiving holiday stretch. We have no complaints. read more

I reported water damage from a broken pipe to MAPFRE in January 2018. The adjuster they sent refused to look at all the damages even the obvious ceiling in the bathroom that was totally destroyed. Obviously they were instructed to lowball the cost of repairs. When I asked the rep from Mapfre if they had a contractor they recommend not only did they recommend someone but said if they found additional damages they would be approved because they had worked with them many times and trusted them. Here we are in August 2019. Contractor was thorough, documenting the additional damages Mapfre's adjuster refused to look at which of course brought the repair costs up. Mapfre approved those repairs. When the contracting company went to take out permits from the local building inspector he informed them there were many things that needed to be brought up to code. I have that coverage on my insurance and pay additionally for having an older home. Mapfre not only refused to pay for code issues they decided against my wishes to cash me out for the original adjusters estimate. I'd like to add to this that during this saga Mapfre was aware that that my husband passed away on Christmas Eve 2018 after a seven-year illness. And despite all that one of their managers lied to me, went against the contractor they recommended and against my pleas to just do the right thing, He didn't even include the emergency repair I paid which more than covered the deductible. They used the original adjusters estimate that didn't include all the damages. Any delays in beginning repairs did not cause any additional damages, everything was the same as when the damage first occurred. Imagine forcing someone newly widowed into having to seek legal recourse and pay legal expenses because they opted to go against the very contractors they touted. Evidently when they don't want to pay a claim this is the road they take. By the way none of these funds would go to me they pay the contractor directly. One star is too high a rating. read more

I was in an accident Feb 9th. I had Mapfre, who was the other drivers company, come out to do an appraisal for repairs. It came to approx $1500. When I initially called Mapfre to get info on the claim (I believe the other driver was at fault) I was told I had not sent them the police report which I promptly faxed over. I called a couple weeks later ( mid March and spoke with a Noelle?) She asked me a couple questions about the accident, where it happened etc.. I believe she looked up the intersection on her computer. She then said ok you are all set We can either send you the check for repairs or have it directed to the body shop. I also asked if I could get a rental and was told yes. I wanted a copy of the appraisal sent to me. After approx two weeks, having not rcvd the appraisal from Mapfre, I called again. This time I spoke to a Paul, who obviously was not trained in positive customer service. He told me that in Noelle's notes there is nothing stating that the claim would be paid. I asked how I would know about the direct pmt or ck to me scenario and he said well its not in the notes and the claim is still being investigated. They said they still haven't heard from the other driver. They called him 2-15-18 and mailed a letter on 3-30. Really not my problem. If he doesn't get back to you I have to keep waiting???? I asked how long do they give the other driver to respond and was told as long as it takes (months or years) I was flabbergasted. I was told I could go thru my own insurance but I will have to pay a deductible and rent a car and am afraid I'll never be reimbursed. I think they feel ppl will just give up. Well Mapfre, be ready for calls weekly, a report to the better business bureau and court if necessary to get this done. I was told by your employee, I was all set and then told by another employee I was not all set. If I had brought my car to get fixed, i would have had to pay the whole bill myself along with car rental charges to get my car back. Your company is disgraceful and i will let EVERYONE I know hear about it. Seeing as though I am in sales, that is quite a few ppl each week. read more

I had full coverage insurance with this company. I was on the freeway stopped in traffic and an unlicensed driver slammed me from behind and sent me into the car in front of me. The car was damaged to the cost of 3200 dollars and they wanted to total the vehicle. Took two month to get an adjuster out. The collision shop said that there was no reason to total the vehicle but these guy wanted to resell the car and leave me high and dry. My expensive monthly insurance got me nothing but headache and a damaged vehicle. They stuck and are too small to be able to afford paying the claim so the lowball it and take the car and leave you screwed. read more

They did not call to me 1 week and my car towed at towing place and they charged me $800 towing fee and storage fee !!!!
