Finally tried this place out after coming to Maui so many time. I had high hopes of this place but was disappointed. I guess I was comparing it to Leonard's and didn't come close at all. There are a lot of options and at least they make it fresh so it might take a couple of minutes. Got 2 plain sugar, one lilikoi, 1 filled with ube cheesecake, 1 Bavarian cream, and 1 blueberry. Fillings tasted like they were somewhat water down or thinned out with water. Outside of the malasadas were crispy but flavor overall was not there. read more

We stopped by the truck though it was closed when Yelp and the truck showed it was supposed to be opened. Called the number on the truck and the owner (?) apologized and called us back multiple times while trying to get ahold of her worker. When we finally were able to find them opened, we bought at least a dozen and the malasadas did not disappoint. They were the best in Maui we tasted and were almost as good as Leonard's on Oahu. When the malasadas are made fresh to order and served warm, you know the day is off to a good start. We tried Manuela Malasada since the place we previously went to (the one on the church parking lot) went out of business during the pandemic, and it did not disappoint! You can order the malasadas in quantities of three, six or 12 and choose what type of sugar coating and filling. They are $3 apiece plus $2 for a filling (totally worth it). My love of donuts runs deep and I have very strong feelings about them, so to say these were great is saying a lot. The outsides were perfectly fried with a slightly crisp exterior, but not greasy, and the inside was everything you'd expect of a good enriched dough - light, airy and the right amount of chew. The fillings were delicious - we tried the mango, likikoi, haupia, guava, ube cheesecake and caramel, all coated with plain sugar. What would I change? More filling. The malasadas are sliced then filled instead of piped, so the filling stopped about 2/3 through each malasada. Some reviewers complained about the price but it's really not bad. Remember that it's made to order fresh, it's not Dunkin Donuts and a good quality donut is going to cost more than $1. Also remember that made fresh to order means you will wait a few minutes. They were all so good! We had the mango, lemon, and Nutella (all sugar coated). All of them were amazing, but I think the mango was my favorite. Total wait time was about 5 minutes, and the malasadas were piping hot when we got them. I've only had malasadas once before (on O'ahu) but these were far superior. read more

A big letdown compared to malasadas we've had at several other places. Long wait, no parking, small sizes. It costs us over $15 for three small malasadas. We were disappointed with these malasadas. If you are familiar with Leonard's, be prepared that Maui's Donut are about 1/3 the size for a higher price and reminded us of a fried canned biscuit with filling squeezed in. Glad we tried this place, but will not return now that we know better. They were much smaller than Zippy's. I suggest you try The Bakery Lahaina, Coppa's in Wailuku, T Komoda in Makawao which are well worth waiting for and visiting if you want better malasadas in Maui. read more

Enjoyed the malasadas when we were able to catch them open. We went during the posted business hours on a Monday but they were closed. Tried calling their phone line and just got an automated message. Went again later that week after driving by and saw the OPEN sign with the order window open so we were able to stop by to place an order. Wow, these malasadas are delicious when eaten right out of the oven! Beware, they are large and very filling. One or two malasadas per person is enough, and it's quite a lot of dough both literally and costwise. But it is a unique island treat that we had to try at least once. My wife and I got lucky, we stumbled upon this spot right as the associate was about to run out and he told us we were his last customer. He was very helpful with suggestions on some of the flavors. The malasadas were delicious and flavorful. Great service (wish I had asked for his name so I could mention it here). As we were about to leave another lady walked up and I informed her that he told us we were his last customer but she didn't seem too thrilled with that. The associate stayed and helped the lady still, and that's extremely hard to find where I'm from in California.
