There's no signage that says they charge $2 extra for filling. That's not right. $44 for a dozen filled Malasadas. I'm no malasada connoisseur but I've tasted many malasadas, even from Oahu as well. I'm going to be completely honest, I was very disappointed. Whenever we head to the west side, there is always a line so I've always thought "man, it must be good". As we arrived, we wouldn't find parking closer to the trailer so we had to park on the other side of the gas station. That was no issue tho. It was raining so everyone who was waiting for their order and wanting to order had to cram under the covering. Again, no issue. I ordered 3 plain and 3 filled, Ube (which I had to pick another flavor when my order was ready so I picked Peanut Butter Chocolate), Haupia and Bavarian Cream (so good). I thought the fillings were going to be more of a custard like consistency but it wasn't. Haupia I'm assuming it was just coconut syrup, the Bavarian Cream was runny and the Peanut Butter Chocolate was literally peanut butter and chocolate syrup. The dough itself had no taste at all and it was very dense. Malasadas are meant to be light and fluffy. All 6 were stuffed into a small togo container and the lid couldn't close. read more

Omg these malasadas were warm and fresh. We got the pineapple, cookie butter, peanut butter and chocolate, lemon zest, plain, and ube cheesecake. The pineapple with sugar was so delicious and it was the perfect amount of filling. The plain one was light and fluffy. The peanut butter and chocolate was good and you definitely get your peanut butter fix. The lemon zest was the perfect amount of lemon and sweet. The ube cheesecake was just right and not too sweet. They definitely need to be eaten within 2 days otherwise they get too hard. I'm sure if we had an oven or something to warm it up, it would have been fine. Fair warning, the sugar goes everywhere. Fresh and hot malasadas. Because they are made to order, the treats are screaming hot. The lady making them warns you to let them set and cool a bit. Very hard as the tantalizing smells fill your car as you drive away. We ordered the Ube cheesecake, blueberry, Bavarian cream, guava, mango, and lilikoi. Powdered sugar on the first three and Li Hung Mui powder with sugar on the last three. So good. It is tempting to order a dozen as the two couples in front of us did. The choices are endless. Delicious and fresh malasadas! They're served from a little truck tucked away in the corner of a parking lot. Took about 20 minutes as they were preparing a fresh batch, but that's just the price of warm malasadas, and there's really no other acceptable way to have them. Cash or Zelle only, and my only note would be to take into consideration how sweet the fillings are (the fruit fillings were more like sweet jams/ syrups as opposed to tart or fresh) when choosing your sugar option. We were driving back to our hotel after dinner and spotted Manuela Malasada so of course we did the only reasonable thing and stopped! They were down to their last dozen, so our timing was lucky. Apparently they go through 80 lbs of dough each day, which makes 200 dozen malasadas, and when they're out, they're out. I've had malasadas a few times and these were hands down my favorite. I loved the perfect hint of crisp/crunch on the outside and the soft, pillowy interior. We got lilikoi with li hing (sour plum sugar), guava cheesecake with plain sugar, and haupia (coconut custard) with powdered sugar. They were all delicious! It was definitely a I'm-stuffed-from-dinner-but-I-can't-stop-eating-these-because-they're-so-good kind of situation. Even the Hyatt residence club Malasadas were better as far as texture and flavor. I know what they mean by the sour taste in the dough. Almost like they added sour milk. I don't know where to start, not sure if it was fhe end if the day batch or my order was rushed but it was not what I expected. I ordered 6 filled malasadas. After waiting over 40 min, they told me they gave me "extra extra" because the dough didn't rise properly. When I looked at my order it already looked hard, burnt and dry. When I tasted one, the outside was crunchy and the middle was doughy, undercooked and had a sour taste/smell. I had to spit it out. Only 3 were filled and even the "extra" ones were made the same-inedible. Sadly, we couldn't eat any of them and threw them out. I gave 1 star because they were nice, but I would not recommend this place at all or even give it another chance. I'm giving one star right now and when I give this place a second try if it earns it, I will change my review. We ordered 3 malasadas: 1 plain powdered sugar, 1 lilikoi filled with powdered sugar and 1 Bavarian creme filled with powdered sugar. The lilikoi filing and Bavarian filling were good. The biggest issue is the wait was more than 30 minutes. There were a couple people ahead of us and it wasn't busy. There was no apology from the staff. No communication from their either about the long wait time. At some point I thought maybe they forgot us so my husband asked and the guy said it would be 5 more minutes. We had already been waiting for 30 minutes. I'm not sure if they forgot us, hopefully so it explains the long wait time, however we were at the table right in front of them so maybe unlikely. The second issue is the cost paired with quality.it's 3 malasadas for $10 but another dollar for a tiny dollop of filling. The Malasada isn't filled, it's cut and the filling is placed in the cut sorta spilling out of it. Looks nice, though, but need more filing! Third issue is dough. The outside was crispy (in a good way) but the inside was yeasty and super dense. Not ideal. The size of the dough is also quite small especially with the cost. Ambiance is fine. It's a good truck across from Costco - that's a thing on Maui. I live on Maui, we are foodies and will probably try this place again and if we do and it is a different experience, I will update this review with that experience. One man shop running things, 45 minute wait to order (about 6 person in line), another 45 to wait on the order. Flies swarming the inside. The pastry itself is a flop. It's $17 for a dozen and then an additional $1 for filling per donut. Our pastries averaged a 1/4 tspn of filling. The pastry itself isn't like your traditional malasada, it's dense and crunchy on the outside (like a hard beignet) - good sweet flavor though. If you're expecting Leonard's then you need to lower the bar - you'll be disappointed if not. This place appears to be the only game in town though.
