He thoughtfully facilitated my request to experiment with my pant cuff width in a educational and safe way. The attention to fit and finish on the end product is outstanding and I'd be more than happy to go back to Adam and his team to purchase future suiting. Bonus points for highly accessible transit location to their studio and in-home service.

I haven't had a custom suit made in many many decades so being picky myself, I was a little anxious about how and where to begin in the process. Adam took care of virtually everything from A-Z....starting with coming to our residence, measuring me up and helping choose the style and materials from a plethora of material and style choices, even down to the personalized inner lining of the jacket and customized logo. The finished product was truly amazing requiring only one final fitting to fine tune the whole ensemble....the result was a true work of art that fit my aged body in such away that I swear it made me look and feel some 40 years younger, from the neck down anyway, lol.... AND the fit was not ony perfect, but surprisingly comfortable on that summer evening..... classy, sleek and ultra contemporary are how I would define this suit.....these guys know their stuff.

The attention to detail throughout the process was so reassuring. The suit turned out absolutely perfect. This is the only place to go in Vancouver for custom suits. I phoned ahead to confirm Blair Shapera's location and said I would be coming in that day. When I arrived I was told they were down staff and usually work with appointments. This was not mentioned on the phone. However I understand how stuff happens and said I'd return the next day. No harm, no foul, but again, no appointment was required for my dropping by the next day. The next day I did came in and was fitted for a shirt - getting a shirt made is a good way to see how a clothier runs things and the product they produce. I paid, but on the way out Blair explained to me that in the future if I am in the store and someone more important enters then, and I quote: "understand that you will then become invisible to me". What a horrid way to treat people, more so a customer. If I were suddenly made invisible in the middle of a fitting, visit, or appointment because someone better arrived, I would be humiliated, belittled, and likely livid. Fortunately I found out about their attitude toward less-important customers like myself before that situation came to fruition. I wrote them a letter about this experience, explaining how I could not work with a team which would make me a non-person at the opening of a door, and that they could discard the shirt. I don't want a refund, I don't want the shirt. I don't want to do business that would treat me as invisible. Perhaps this is all a massive misunderstanding, but I received no response to my letter. No apology, no clarification, no explanation, nothing. I can only conclude that this truly is how they want to run their business. If you want to go somewhere and risk being treated like a piece of nothing, then this is your place.

Samson - So sorry to see the business of Samson is long gone with his misery he caused so many of us.

He likes to talk about the importance of his work and I guess by reading the reviews some people think it upsets them.. Well.. Steve deserves nothing but 5 stars! I got my suit for my wedding overseas. Steve knew he has a timeline he had to go by and he finished the suit before the deadline. I was very happy with the service and quality. I even still see him from time to time on the street and he recognizes me and says hello.. Even though I only bought 1 suit from him. Everybody at my wedding complimented me on the suit! He made me get French couplings (I got a tailored shirt as well) which really had people talking about it :) If I ever buy another suit, it would only be from this guy! I was and still is very happy with this place and recommend it to everybody I know that needs suits.

Nothing off the rack fit well, and it was impossible to find 5 of the same suits which fit. Steve went above and beyond to work around our 3-week timeline and he nailed the fit for all of us. He even worked in enough time in case any alterations were needed. The fabric Steve recommended was perfect for the groom. Its weave gives it the look of a linen yet the wool material leads to very few wrinkles and a fresh look. The medium light grey color works rather well in black-and-white photographs which pleased our photographer. So far, I've had two suits and two shirts made with Steve. I've seen his work on my friends' and family's suits and I have been consistently pleased with quality, fit, and value. Overall, Steve does an amazing job and I highly recommend him.

I was waiting to get a few more uses out of the bespoke suit that I had made by the Wong brothers…read more However, I just took a peek at what I had hanging in the closet and it brought back many emotions about the journey. I'll save a bunch of details since others have written just as much praise for the fantastic generations of men who have served the Vancouver area for 100yrs and focus on my own experience. I had made the decision to have a suit custom tailored at Modernize Tailor because it's the place my grandfather had gone decades ago to get his very own suits made. I wanted to own a piece of history that is multiple generations old and that meant ensuring the suit was made by the same hands that would have created the timeless pieces that my grandfather would have worn. It was not cheap and it was not lightning fast. In fact, I didn't make it any faster by being very particular about the bolt of wool that I would wear with pride. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough material left to make a full jacket and pants for me and I ended up spending more hours digging through the famous "stash" of finely-aged bolts of fabric before finding something from a new collection of British wools that gave me the same level of excitement. Steven and I spent quite a bit of time talking about what makes a suit and how I will be wearing the single-buttoned, side-vented, and fish-mouth notched and narrow lapelled gem that I had been visualizing for months. Thinking about the all the options I had, I sat on a couch in the foyer of a residential building where Modernize Tailors has returned to their origins after years of being across the street. The results of our conversation and all this time to decide had me re-thinking many elements of the design and fit that I was looking to achieve. Ultimately, I'm so glad that it did. The result was an instant classic. Little work needed to be done upon pickup of the finished masterpiece which took nearly three months due to vacation time for both them and myself. I was picky about a little bit of neck roll just below the collar and I decided it was necessary to turn it into a two-button jacket to make the overall look more professional and proportional. It was a non-issue for them to take care of and an hour later, I walked out of Modernize Tailor with a giant grin on my face. No, I wasn't wearing the suit on my way back to my car. In fact, the suit wasn't even put in a special travel bag or anything. It sat on a very plain hanger, but I just felt better about myself holding it. Chinatown has changed quite a bit since my grandfather would have been walking those same streets, but I'm sure he felt the same way after picking up his new apparel from the Wong brothers. In closing, you don't buy a suit from Modernize Tailors. You are buying a piece of history.

Very helpful, fast service, and great work on a jacket I was uncertain could be fixed. My new go-to…read morefor tailoring.
