    Pasteis de Nata and ginja
    Semira A.

These Pasteis de Nata were pretty good. I will say these did lean just a little too sweet for me definitely would have been better with a cup of tea to go with. I will say I loved the dough, really buttery and a nice flaky crunch to it. The service was very attentive and patient in walking me through their other food offerings. The vibe was fun, a little touristy but no complaints there.

Located in the Time Out Market, and also appears well known. The pastel de nata is pre-made and laid out on the counter, so it was cold when served. They cost about 2 euros each. There is cinnamon on the side and it does taste better with it. The custard is on the sweeter side which I didn't mind; I think these pastries were one of the better ones, and it would pair well with a coffee. Crust is flakey and buttery but still holds together decently well. It's very hard to find seating with how many people are within the Market, took us about 20 minutes before finding the end of an open table. Luckily, eating these tarts dont necessarily require seating.

I tried the Pastel de Nata (Portuguese Egg Tart) at Manteigaria in Time Out Square in Lisbon. The egg tarts were really sweet, but it felt less custardy than the one in Porto, so I'd give it 8.8/10

This is not the egg tart place called Manteigaria! This is the meat and cheese shop called Manteigaria Silva! Tried an Iberian sandwich and it was very delicious and fresh. The meat and cheese tasted amazing, but wasn't a fan of the bread. The bread was very dense! I prefer the sandwiches that come with a baguette. Still very good and I would love to come back and pick up a charcuterie board to pair with wine.

I like Pastel de Belem more but you can't go wrong here. They offer coffee varieties too. I didn't see any salty options unlike Belem which had a delicious spicy beef treat

These pasteis de nata, after having a few in the city, are definitely some of the best. I highly recommend. Custard is great, but what sets it apart for me is the flaky crust.

Yum! One of the best pastels de nata I tried in Portugal. The crust was flakey and the inside was sweet and still warm/runny. Heads up: they only accept card!

Manteigaria Silva is not the same as the custard tart shop down the way, although they are really good too. Manteigaria Silva specializes in cheese and charcuterie to eat there or take away. I had the Trio de Enchidos (sausage) with lombo, chorizo and cachaço. All were good but the cachaço (I think) was my favorite. It was smokey and a little sweet and unlike anything I'd had before. Would have loved to have tried the cheeses as well but wasn't able to during this trip. Next time for sure. This booth is a winner.

Ok besides the fact that eating just one feels like a punishment because they are so creamy and flaky and rich... It feels like Whoopi should pop in the window right now to tell me I'm in danger... I will definitely have to forget about this place. It is too good and diets are real.

Manteigaria is a popular bakery in Lisbon that produces pastel de nata. This particular Manteigaria is located inside Time Out Market and is constantly producing and selling their pastry. It's €1 per pastry and there are no bulk discounts. The pastel de nata here is tasty. I enjoy the custard and the pastry. However, one of the biggest differences between the pastel de nata at Manteigaria and the one at Pasteis de Belem is that the pastry at Manteigaria is much sweeter. You'll notice a sweet after taste. My preference is the less sweet pastry from Pasteis de Belem over Manteigaria. However, Manteigaria comes in second in my ranking of pastel de nata.

Another go-to bakery besides Pastéis de Belam if you want a good pastel de nata. They have so many customers so that you know the pastries are always fresh. And you get to see clearly how the beautiful pastries are made. It is right by the entrance of Time Out Market you can't miss it.

It's the cheese / charcuterie shop.. NOT the egg tart place!

We came to the shop in the Time Out Market. They've been around since 1890, and they're known for Portuguese cheese and charcuterie. It's confusing because the name is the same as the egg tart place (which has only been open a few years apparently). They had a special mountain cheese called sella de estrella - it's a soft, runny, stinky cheese great on crackers. We also got the azeitão, which was another sheepsmilk cheese. They can make you a plate, or you can get it to go. Service was super friendly, and they let us sample the cheeses. They even vacuum sealed some stuff for us to take back to the US!

One of the best pasteis de nata in Lisbon. It was our favorite out of Pasteis de Belém and Fabrica de Nata (2 other very famous bakeries) it is extremely popular on google reviews and the favorite of the concierge at my hotel. Definitely must try one here and compare it to others! One is 1 euro

Best pastel de nata in the city, hands down. We sought this place out every day and it was worth every calorie

That is exactly the "good" problem Landeau has as besides their famous chocolate cake, all they have are beverages, inadvertently making their sign outside with the proclamation "When in doubt, try chocolate cake!" kind of hilarious. Once you've huffed and puffed your way up one of Lisbon's stairmaster hills, the darkened and vintage feeling interior of this particular Landeau feels very welcome. Although there is ample seating for the size of this store, the ample line of people waiting to get in from the outside might make getting a seat difficult nonetheless. I do like the regular lattes here but let's face it, any beverage you get here is really meant to be a sidekick to the main star of the show, Landeau's famous chocolate cake. And it is indeed, the best slice of chocolate cake you'll ever have, and that is not hyperbole. Layered and textured, but pillowy and light, it's really difficult to describe what a beautiful heavenly experience eating a chocolate cake at Landeau is. It's like treating your mouth to the most sumptuous and comforting experience it's ever going to have when eating something and you never want to end. And for under 5 euros, it almost feels like a steal. I really do consider going to a Landeau one of the highlights of my trip to Lisbon and urge everyone to put it on their must eats here. Even yes, over the egg tarts.

My boss loves pastel de nata and we were on a mission to eat them every chance we had. He found this little cafe and we walked on over. This place is classic, beautiful chandeliers in the ceiling, mirrors on the walls, gold trimmings. You can either order and eat at the counter or you can get a table. We opted for a table which was great because we were able to look at the menu in English. There is a case full of all different kinds of pastries as well. We ended up getting two different kinds of breads and a pastel de nata and two Americanos. The pan de deus was my favorite with the sugar on top. The bread was airy and fluffy and delicious when dipped into the coffee. Service was fast and the place was clean.

Based on the items I ordered, everything was just passable. Maybe I'm not really appreciating the difference in textures between similar pastries in different countries, but even compared to several other bakeries and cafes in Lisbon, this was my least favorite. (Overall outside of pasteis de nata, I found pastries and baked goods in Portugal to be a bit drier, breadier, and sweeter than some other countries.) The chocolate croissant I ordered used melted chocolate sprinkles on top and inside, and the bread was laminated on the outside but kinda dense and dry on the inside, no airy pockets, just bready. The palmier tasted a bit stale, like when a crispy cookie has been sitting out and softened. The croquettes were average. The espresso was pretty normal. I sat outside since it was a nice day, they had a number of tables and patrons dining outside. They seemed to be understaffed bc it took a while for the server to come out and take my order, though the food came pretty quickly once ordered. Inside it's a very old-school feel, very ornate with many mirrors and liquor shelves along the wall. Not sure about prices now though will say in 2022 they were very reasonable.
