The shop at the Rossio location is small but very elegant. There is a bar with about 4 high chairs. If they are available, you can grab a seat and look out the window while enjoying the egg tarts! Now, onto the main attraction, the pasteis de nata, Portuguese custard tarts. It was pretty delicious! The crust could have been a bit more crispy but if you are staying in the downtown Rossio area, this is a good alternative to Pasteis de Belem. Service was fine. read more

Castro is another popular shop I saw to get pastel de nata and boy was this tasty. This was probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite. The crust was a lot more flaky and therefore fell apart super easily. The custard was delicious, but I didn't like it as much as the Manteigara one. There was no one there when I went so I got mine to go very quickly. There is some standing room here, but not much space available. read more

I've been trying to find the best nata in Portugal and I found it!! Their shop is so quaint and amazing. You have a perfect view of the chef's process (by hand) forming the dough in the tins and adding the custard mixture before carefully placing them in the oven. They even had different liquors that you can enjoy with the natas. Such an amazing experience in Lisboa!! read more

Castro is a chain with locations in both Porto and Lisbon. We first went to the Porto location and tried the Pasteis de Nata fresh and warm with some coffees, and then this Lisbon location for a Too Good To Go. These ranked 3rd on our tour de nata list, as the custard on the sweeter side. The custard was still nice and light with a flaky crust. These were also the most expensive at €1.70/ea. They have Too Good To Go at several Castro locations in Lisbon. I scored 8 natas for €4.29! sadly, they don't hold up that well, even with a little nuke in the microwave (a toaster oven or air fryer might have been better?). As a day went by, they got sweeter too. A solid choice if you come across a Castro and have a hankering for a nata. Best to get them fresh out of the oven. read more

I ordered a Too Good To Go box and it did not disappoint. 8 pastel de natas for 5 euro was great. They weren't warm when I got them, but still delicious! The crust is perfectly flaky. And the custard is lovely as well. Great proportions. These were both a great dessert and then breakfast the next morning. It was super easy to pick these up, very quick. And the gentleman who put the box together was very kind (but most Portuguese people are very welcoming!) read more

Great spot in the hustle & bustle of Chiado! Walked in for an afternoon treat and had some of the best pastels de nata. There a few tables inside to sit which was nice and we enjoyed getting to rest for a bit. The service was great as well! No complaints! read more

I visited Castro on a Monday mid-afternoon. I was surprised that it wasn't crowded at all, since I had been warned by others that there are usually long lines. I ordered their iconic pastel de nata. It was delicious, especially with the cinnamon dusted on top. I also liked that you can watch the pastry chefs at work as they make everything fresh. I'll definitely be coming back again. read more

This is a pretty popular de nata spot near the Santa Justa lift. It is quite small with a bar top to stand and dine in. Although quite solid, I think Pasteis de Belem was still the winner for me in Lisbon. The custard was on the sweeter side for me and the crust was not as crispy, especially due to the fact that it was not served warm. Nonetheless, service was pretty quick and good here - I would definitely recommend checking Castro out if you're in the area because there's no such thing as eating too much egg tarts when you are in Portugal! read more

Very solid pasteis de nata right by the Santa Justa lift. The pastry shell is definitely one of the best and you can see the master bakers at work in the open kitchen. Worth a stop if you are in the area (and don't want to make the trek all the way to Belem - these are a good proxy)! Grab a box of 6 for $9 (they come in a nice tube-like pack). read more

If I could rate this place more stars I would! I went here twice on my trip to Lisbon and it was my favorite place to get pasteis de nata. The nata is the perfect level of sweetness and the coffee is delicious as well. The place can only accommodate three parties sitting and two or three standing so be mindful of that. I can't wait to be back in Lisbon just for Castro. Believe me these are better than Pasteis de Belem! read more

Delicious warm and fresh pastel de nate. Only has sesting outside which is good. You can watch people stand in line for the elevador while you enjoy a treat. Cappuccino was perfection and open late. read more

I will not reveal the number of times we went here on a recent trip to Lisbon :) between Castro and Mantegaria up the street we were definitely spoiled for choice ! We loved the sit down option here and enjoyed many tarts, espresso, port and Ginjinha. Went here for desert, the only have pastel de natas, coffee and Port wine and Ginja. Natas were amazing, you can add cinnamon or sugar on top. There are a few high table tops where you can stand to have the desert and a drink. It is not meant for you to stay there a long time. Service is polite and friendly. read more

Upscaled without good reason. Just ok. Cooled. Should be served fresh, warm, crispy, with a flaky pastry shell. Once chilled the pastry becomes chewy, and not the best in taste or texture. read more

This was the first pasteis de nata we tried in Lisbon since it was a block away from our hotel. However, they ended up being our least favorite ones we had out of all the dedicated pasteis de nata bakeries during our weeklong trip. First of all, they were served cold, unlike Manteigaria and Pasteis de Belem. It's really hard to compete with warm pastry, so they were already way behind there. The pastry was nice and flaky, but not the flakiest we had. The custard was too sweet for my husband and a little too gloopy. I will admit it was quite sweet, and I have a considerable sweet tooth. Overall, this will be better than any pastel de nata you will encounter outside of Portugal, but it paled compared to the other popular pasteis de nata bakeries in this country. read more

I absolutely love anything custard like and while in Lisbon had to eat some of these delicious custard pies. By this time I had tried at least four different places. Very good coffee, brewed on an italian cimbali machine. I had a flat white and it came in a tiny espresso type of cup. Tiny, but good. The pastel de nato is very good. Crispy and flaky and the custard was not too sweet. Hot off the press with bakers behind the glass doing their magic. Directly across the street from the santa justa lift. read more

We came across Castro during a sightseeing walk through the city. We decided to stop in and give it a try, partially just so we could rest our legs. We are glad we did. This was a great find. Everything about this little pastry shop clicks. The mechanical window display is humorous and eye catching. On the inside, the well laid out pastry de nadas brighten up the countertop, while in the back a pastry chef is clearly seen working his magic. It's moot to argue which shop has the best pastry de nata in Lisbon, I can promise that this Castro Atelier de Pasteis de Nata deserves to be in the discussion. This place is a must visit when in Lisbon. You can't go wrong with Castro's. read more

The pastry shell does have a good crispness and flakiness to it, but the problem is the inside is just way too sweet. The custard is just sickly sweet - such that it simply doesn't work with the egg flavor. It seems to be a problem unique to this chain, as I haven't noticed this sweetness anywhere else. Overall, I would look elsewhere for pastel de nata. 5/10
