We loved this place!!! Upon entering you know you're in a proper Irish pub because the atmosphere wreaked of it and stale beer made sure of it. It looked to have several locals who frequent the place regularly and each one was as talkative and friendly as the next. We ordered a couple beers. - Smithwick's for me - Cider for my lady We didn't eat but the ladies sitting by us did and their burgers looked so good I almost ordered one and I don't even eat meat, but I almost did that night. Oh boy, nice Irish bar and perfectly poured Guinness, but......I'll just spit it out. Sheppards pie does not have lamb. Corn-beef and cabbage was microwaved which dried out meat and left cold and hot spots, no carrots or yellow mustard? So, a couple of big ass fails for a bar that has Galway signs. Clean and attentive help. I like the place but the food, seriously lacks if you're anticipating Irish chow. I may come in for a quick drink, but no food for me. read more

Mannions is my Cheers. It's that kinda pub. The food is always awesome and the staff are tops. Friday nights after 7:30 is my favorite regular time because there's usually a guitar player. Always a fun night. I figured it out. I've moved all over New Jersey but I've always met friends at Mannions, probably since they opened. Lame. Stopped in for a drink at 2:15 on a Sunday afternoon. 7 people at the bar. 5 with empty glasses waiting to be filled. We sat at the end of the bar without the bartender even acknowledging us for 10 plus minutes while he tried to figure out the cash register. We left. Either train your staff or hire a pro instead of a local. I'm a bartender. The customers should be taken care of as soon as possible. Make eye contact. Stopped in for a quick lunch on the day of the Somerville St Patrick's Day parade so the place was pretty packed, mostly in the bar area but we were still able to get a table for 2 immediately. I figured I'd stick with the Irish theme of the day and ordered a corned beef sandwich on rye and fries. This was not a good sandwich. The corned beef was really dry and the bread didn't seem fresh either. I did enjoy the fries but they were $3.50 extra as the sandwich normally comes with chips... this sandwich definitely wasn't worth the cost. I will say our server was lovely but as many other reviews said just come here for some drinks and eat elsewhere. read more

This seemed to be the quintessential Irish pub with exactly the food and service you'd want from an Irish pub. I had the wings and their venerable shepherds pie. Perfect. Not innovative in any sense at all, just exactly what you'd want. Fired in the oven for a good crispy potato top and their Bloody Mary/Maria was exactly what New Year's Day called for, especially during a pandemic, I'm glad this place was open. It's worth the few extra steps down Main Street or whatever... why 4 stars instead of 5? Not sure exactly. It was exactly as hoped for and maybe a 5 star place would exceed those expectations, but I wouldn't argue with a 5 star review for an Irish pub. I bet the locals have stories to tell. Servers are attentive and kind, and will remember you if you come back a few times. Only sampled the bar food so far, it was fine if not memorable. Wings ordered buffalo style were very hot (temp), crispy and salty, mild heat despite order of medium, needed a bit more sauce, $7 for about 10 wingers. Nachos were a large heap of red/white/blue tortilla chips heaped with chili, tomatoes, cheese, beans etc., $8.50. Vegetarian rating: seriously, an Irish pub, you have to ask? Let's be generous and say 1.5 stars for the Vegetable Sandwich Wrap at lunch; mozzarella sticks, nachos and salads at dinner. Maybe you can convince your server to bring pasta with red sauce, hold the animal protein. Mannion's pub is right on Rt 28, parking can be tough, a few tables out front on the sidewalk and a whole lot more inside. Huge TV in the bar! A good neighborhood Irish pub that entertains and has decent food and good, cold beer. I've been here a number of times. I really like their wings. I always get a Guinness as they pull it perfectly. My husband and I stopped in most recently on 3/13/2021. The place was packed, honestly. We got a table and order our beers, my husband ordered the Sheppard's Pie and I got the Fish and Chips. Our waitress was friendly and there was a general air of St. Patty's day. Food was really good. They had Irish dancers come in and then a piper. We enjoyed ourselves. I think a problem with some of the reviews for this place is 1. they expect too much, this is a neighborhood Irish pub and 2. they come in during the middle of a slow day and expect 20-something servers to give them white glove service. This is a great place to hang, and if you are nice - they are nice! So smile! read more

Mannion's keeps itself quiet most the time which makes it a mellow place to stop in for a pint and meal with a few Irish specialty items to choose from but plenty of American bar fare as well for the picky eaters that aren't as adventurous. Prices are excellent too. Meals will run you only about $10-$25 per person, for a good portioned meal that will satisfy everyone with some great appetizers. St. Patrick's Day is done with an old style theme and doesn't go overly extravagant. On a beautiful July evening, we came for the traditional "cruise night" in downtown Somerville, but needed sustenance first. Had not been to Mannion's in a while, so figured what the heck, let's go... Outdoor seating was not to be had (full) so we ventured inside, where we were quickly led to a table near a window. Victoria, our server, was cheerful and efficient - always around but never overbearing...just right. My [burger-snob] son said his cheeseburger deluxe was "not bad, a 7 out of 10". My spouse had a grilled chicken sandwich but left off the best parts (in my opinion), such as avocado and melted swiss. My other son got "Kelly's chicken fingers" which, even at $5, was a skimpy portion and not terribly appetizing. I ordered corned beef and cabbage, which came with potatoes, and it was very good. The highlights of our visit were my corned beef & cabbage and our server. The low-point was the chicken finger kid's meal. The rest was in the middle. Street parking can be tight BUT a new lot just opened across the street. read more

I've been going to Mannion's on and off for over 20 years and I have seen the place decline little by little. Today, I wanted to grab a quick pub burger and a beer, and out of convenience stopped in on an early Sunday afternoon. There were a few stragglers at the bar, but an empty place overall. The server was a friendly bearded millennial who took my order of a bacon cheeseburger​. I asked what was on tap and he was unsure, so the first beer I ordered was out and I had to order​ a different one. The burger arrived, unimpressive and dwarfed by the bun and a big bush of old wilted lettuce and a rubbery pickle, with a side of potato chips. What happened to serving the burger with fries like they had in the past? Unacceptable. You would think they would up their game considering the recent success​ of Somerville restaurants, but they seemed​ to have gotten worse. After I finished my first beer, I waited for a few minutes for a refill because the ignoring server was more involved in looking at a laptop at the end of the bar than being attentive to the two other customers he had. After my second beer was finished, I was ignored again as the bartender was back to giggling like a little girl on his laptop with his buddy. I got the check and left this hole. Management needs to step up and train these unattentive​ and unprofessional​ servers better as well as keeping the food on the menu at least to the standard it was before. read more

This is just a thoroughly average Irish pub. I went here with a large group and the food, drink, and service were all about average. If I wanted food, I would go somewhere else in town with the large variety of interesting and tasty places to be found. If I wanted drinks, I would go somewhere with more of a bar ambiance instead of a food pub. I love their wings there, have had a decent corned beef and cabbage, the chicken francese is one of the best I had, and if they have the filet mignion on a special then it's always done just right (especially with that demi-glazed sauced). If you are coming here for the live music entertainment, prepare to drink as it will make your experience much better. Typical big crowd during the times they have Irish singers there consists of lots of banging on the table and loud singing with the entertainer and the bar patrons. Just an average place the moment we walked in the waitress/bartender / hostess had an attitude problem. Every time she came over to ask us if we needed something she had an attitude to the point where I actually asked her if she had an issue with us because she didn't even know us. We ordered three meals two were off the special menu. My burger was just passable the other two meals they couldn't even eat them they just left them didn't even want to take them home. They even ordered regular Iced Teas and sent them back because they said they tasted that bad. Went to Mannion's for lunch today. The bartender immediately I.D. my boyfriend and I. We didn't want to drink just wanted burgers but showed our I.D. as requested since we were sitting at the bar. He refused to serve us because we do not have "Real ID"s. We both have regular NJ state Licenses. We tried to explain to the bartender that our licenses are legitimate and the Real IDs are for flying and have nothing to do with drinking. Keep in mind we are both close to thirty. After arguing for a few minutes we left. We didn't even want a drink but that encounter made us so angry we left on principle. He will never serve anyone if expects everyone to have transferred to Real ID. Someone should explain to your bartender what a Real ID is. We will never be back. read more

Mannion's is an old fashioned Irish bar in a gentrified and growing Somerville Main street. The decor is about what you'd expect when thinking "pop" Irish ... lots of dark wood and green accents. Smells of boiled cabbage compete with bleach from the mopping up of the night before. No proper Irish bar is complete without its surly bar keep, and Mannion's doesn't disappoint here either. If you want to get drunk and throw random insults at people, Mannion's is definitely a worthwhile stop. I highly suggest running in there and screaming GO SHARKS! For everyone else who's evolved past the need for self loathing via trashy establishments and boiled food, you can do much better on Main Street. Mannions has been a great go to pub for us for years and we've never had bad service, but they've just recently really stepped up the quality of the food. It was always solid for pub fare but the update to the menu has really made a difference. The French onion soup was the best I'd ever had, which is a pretty big compliment coming from a pub lover. Terrible bar service on an early Sunday evening- the one bartender barely checked on us, was on her phone while pouring drinks, and never gave us menus. Even worse was the Summer Shandy I ordered, which had a funny smell to it and just didn't taste right. I probably should've went with a Guinness anyway... This place is definitely dated; I can appreciate pubs and restaurants with an old feel to it, but this place is just stuck in a time long gone with cheesy decor. read more
