Nice pub with a pretty wide range of foods on the menu. We've sat in for dining and also sat at the bar a few times for burgers. I liked how the burgers were cooked right in front of us at the bar, and they were delicious! The crab melt aways are good, kinda like garlic bread but with old bay, cheese, and crab. We had mussels marinara once that tasted really 'off' and they were promptly removed from our table and bill. Other than that, I've liked all the food here! I think they should do an upgrade to the speakers in the bar area, though. They are completely blown out and sound terrible. I think there is a jute box attached to them, so you're at the mercy of whoever is picking songs. read more

I visited Buzzy's today before work. I read excellent reviews online and saw superb pictures. I ordered half supreme nachos and penne pasta with tomato basil cream and garlic bread. As soon as I ordered the nachos, it was brought to my table within 10 minutes. The service was super quick. The supreme nachos had lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, olives, and pickled jalapeños with a base of house-made nacho chips and loads of cheddar cheese. It was served with a side of salsa and sour cream. The nachos were delicious and super warm. The salsa was tangy and tasted fresh. On the other hand, the Penne Pasta with Tomato Basil Cream and Garlic Bread was excellent. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the tomato basil cream sauce was phenomenal. Hands down one of the best pastas I've had in the longest time. The garlic bread was buttery and sprinkled with fresh garlic. In addition, there was a spice blend on the garlic bread, which enhanced the flavor. Overall, an awesome tavern and it has been running for a long time, which says a lot. Highly recommend. read more

Went here on a Friday night. The bar was really lively and the atmosphere was great. Music wasn't too loud, but they play different music between the bar and seated area (where we sat), so you're stuck listening to two songs the whole night. Maybe that sounds like a silly complaint, but it's actually pretty annoying. The restaurant itself is nicely taken care of, even if the furniture is a bit older. They keep it clean and neat, even the outside parking lot, and the building is freshly painted with a cool logo sign out front. I live in this neighborhood, so I appreciate the upkeep that they do to keep the area looking nice! We've been here before and I remember liking the food very much. The food on this visit wasn't the greatest, though. Our crab meltaways were lukewarm, and there was something seriously wrong with the mussels. We get mussels at any restaurant that offers them since they're a fav app of ours, so it's not like we don't know what mussels taste like. These smelled like low tide and manure. Like funky, rotten seafood. We tried one or two but the smell when you brought it up to your mouth was so strong! I hate sending food back, but we really couldn't eat them. I think our server even knew they were gross. When she asked how everything was, we said the mussels were, ummm...she chimed in with "really fishy?". She was very nice and apologized, and removed them from the table and took them off our check. (throughout the night our sever was really great btw!) After that we decided that we wanted steak, but weren't hungry enough for two meals. So we got the 16oz prime rib and split it. The server brought us an extra plate and even an extra steak knife, which was very thoughtful! Unfortunately, that steak was NOT 16oz. I know they say it's the pre-cooked weight, but again, we aren't newbies to eating out, and that was NOT 16oz worth of meat. I would say the steak was maybe 8 or 9oz. It was delicious, though, and we didn't feel like complaining any further. For $25, we felt pretty ripped off with that meal. The mashed potatoes were super salty and lukewarm. Ahh, I really hate complaining about restaurants on Yelp, but it seems like the management checks up on this account so maybe they can make some small changes after reading this. We will be coming back again as it's so close to home and the staff was so nice. read more

Dive look & feel, but the food separates this local watering hole from the pack. I like it. A big square bar seating about 40ish greets you upon entrance. Those bold dollar store type paintings or perhaps paint by numbers of nothing special oddly plastered over every nook & cranny of the interior walls, definitely a cheapening ambience. I couldn't help, but be reminded of a old school Speakeasy that was cleaned up and made to look slightly more modern by an 80 year interior decorator. Multiple flat screens to catch the game. $4 for a domestic draft is robbery in these parts for a place just a step above dive status. But every 4th drink is a buy back, so there. Kristin is not only personable, but a top notch bar wench. Lunch special average $10 because they charge extra for sides. The homemade Cole slaw would make the Deutsch proud. The soft shell crab sandwich at $12 is ample an moist inside yet perfectly crispy outside just like fellow trusted Yelper CK's head. The thin fries are fried to perfection. Loved the selection of classic rock always jamming. Definitely a local towny older dude type of feel by day, but warm & inviting. I think I saw Norm & Cliffy sitting in the corner, lol. Don't be put off by the bar you encounter when first entering the place (you have to walk through the bar to get to the actual dining room). Although nascar is on the TV and the bar is dark and a bit off putting, once you get to the dining room you're in for some good food. The burgers are quite good, and they let you customize the burger to a degree I wouldn't have expected. The quality of the food is great. And free wi-fi to boot ! Let me start by stating that what makes Buzzy's great is that it is fairly inexpensive. Jack and coke, whiskey neat or on the rocks, draft beer. Everything is at a cheap price. Went this past weekend for a late lunch with the family. GREAT burgers! It's so hard to find burgers made on a real grill, good char, large size (I only ate half and I always finish everything) and they offer a few different chips/fries options as a side. Moderately priced (maybe $12-$15 depending on toppings?.) You can even get burgers grilled right behind the bar! Casual, family-friendly atmosphere, bar area is separate from true dining room area. Just wish they had a better craft beer selection (mostly bud-miller-coors and the usual imports.) read more

Buzzy's is a local dive - it is not much to look at, BUT the food is great pub grub, beer selection is impressive (the fact that they serve Boddington's got us there to begin with!), service is friendly, and it is incredibly affordable!! Great for a mid week night out. We (husband and myself) tried the food recently, and were impressed - it exceeded our expectations. We had the crab melt away bread (1/2 order was MORE than enough for one person), and the cheesy potato skins for starters. I had the french onion soup for my main, and he had a customized burger with shoestring fries. For dessert, we shared the Bailey's cheesecake - which, if it is on offer, be SURE to order!!!! This was incredible, an absolute mouthgasm!! Dense cheesecake, rich chocolate crust, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. This feast, plus three drinks each, totaled under $70.00. We ate at the bar, because the dining room just honestly is not much to look at. I agree that there should be a separate entrance to the dining room rather than just thru the bar - it would make life easier for the blue haired old ladies with walkers...yes, the dining room crowd seems a bit older. I had no problems with sitting at the bar to eat - the other patrons all seem to enjoy a good time, without imposing on anyone else. No one seems threatening or scary. Haha the first reviewer is pretty spot on. Once you make your way past the dark sleazy NASCARy bar, Buzzy's is a nice normal little restaurant. They should really have another entrance so you don't have to go through that place. The food is realllly good. I usually get a burger, or my favorite sandwich of all time, the BLT. There's almost TOO much bacon on it (who would've imagined that was even possible??), but I'm always happy to share the extra with whoever I'm eating with . And they're usually happy to take it. It may be a little expensive for Piscataway, but it's a place I visit with my parents whenever I come home. read more

August 2013 EDIT: I don't often revisit places and I can't recall ever updating a review but I had to. First I got a very pleasant email from someone at Buzzy's apologizing for the bad experience and inviting us to come again with a coupon. So we bit. I'm glad we did. The service as before was nice and professional. The food this time was 180 degrees different from the meal below. I had the stuffed sole and it was delicious. A million times better than a similar entree that I just had in Cape May that cost 30 percent more. My partner had a delicious seafood platter that was even better reheated as a lunch. The portions were generous and I'm glad to say that the below review was based on what must have been an off night. We enjoyed everything we had including the consistently tasty fried zucchini sticks as an appetizer. Great customer service and a great way to handle a dissatisfied customer. Too much gloopy salty and sweet brown sauce that tasted like cheap marsala wine doused into a Hungry Man supper. The chicken was tasteless and had a strange texture like it had been boiled and microwaved. I was hungry so I tried to eat it but that was a mistake as it made me nauseous before I could eat half of it. We should have sent both plates back but that was our mistake. So many other options. This one will will not be visited again in a long time if ever. What a disappointment and waste of money. I'm reminded that the fried zucchini sticks we had as an appetizer were delicious. The crab meltaways are amazingly satisfying. Most of the appetizers are very high quality. The food is adequately priced and is very fresh. For an entree the French dip was cooked evenly. The steak was not over done. The bread was moist. The fries are crunchy and very hot. The service leaves a little to be desired. The waitress was only ever handling 2 tables but service was slow and drinks waited quite a a bit before being refilled. Highly recommend for food quality, but be sure you have time to dedicate to a meal due to the service. read more

Portions are a pretty decent size especially for the price. I went in for lunch and the restaurant area was pretty empty. We were seated right away. I got an eggplant sandwich off the lunch menu (ranges from $6.95 - $8.95). The sandwiches usually come with chips but I subbed for sweet potato fries which was a little pricey ($3) but considering how cheap the sandwich was I let it go. We also got the mussel zupa for an appetizer. The sauce on it is amazing and we ended up leaving that on the table as a sauce for the sandwich. Probably my favorite thing that we got. read more

Meat was a little pulverized but did have good flavor. Mushrooms were ok. Wife had salad with shrimp which was big and fresh. Kids had potato skins with cheese and bacon which was really good. I've been to this place many times. I was just there last Friday. It was pleasant. We had 2 different appetizers. Crab melt away bread and pretzel sticks with cheese. Crab melt aways were delicious. My family always enjoys them when we go there. The pretzels were soft a little under cooked in my opinion but yummy! Just regular cheese "sauce". The burgers here are really great. There a huge and really juicy. Cooked perfectly! I regret not getting it last Friday. I got Danielle favorite chicken and it was good large serving I brought most of it home. When we first moved to the area in the early 90's, we'd frequent Buzzy's because the food was great and the service was too. However, since those days the quality of the food and the service have steadily declined. Tonight I had the french onion soup which I order each time I visit because it is so good. Tonight the best part of the soup was the cheese. There was no taste to it and the broth was so watered down, it was a very pale to almost clear broth. The 1/2 order of potato skins were served luke warm and the consistency was as though they were reheated. The worst part of the meal was my steak & cheese sandwich which I ordered with mushrooms and onions. I've had this item in the past and it was an actual steak on the roll. This time it came out as thin strips of steak, salty and thick. There were all of maybe four mushrooms on it and the onions were as though they were just introduced to the heat and not allowed to cook/brown. The three slices of American cheese on top wasn't melted. They were just laid on the warm steak to melt and not introduced to the broiler. Although I did not ask them to, the server removed the item from our bill. The icing on the cake was when another waitress stopped by the table to remove our dishes and asked if we wanted anything else. When I said no thank you, she replied "no more crappy food?" Not sure if she was being real or being snippy but it really was uncalled for. No one ever said the food was crappy but if that's how she wants to describe it, then I'll leave it at that. So sorry to see what was once a great local spot to eat become something I won't revisit. read more

Stopped in on a midweek bar crawl of the area. It was still happy hour when we sat at the very large rectangular bar. Some of the regulars were hanging out and seemed cheerful enough albeit a little rough around the edges. In the center of the bar is a small grill, we didn't see any cooking going on this visit but assume this is where some delicious burgers come from. We did get a half order of the Crab Melt $6.50. Think french bread with crab and cheese melted on top. It was good, about 5 slices for a half order and enough for a snack for two people. This is a neighborhood bar with the neighborhood feel. Just grabbed a late dinner here with my family last night and felt compelled to write this review based on the experience. Let me preface this review by stating that my family and I used to come to Buzzy's pretty frequently in the early to late 90's when I still lived in Piscataway. We always had a great experience and loved the food and service. After that, I never got the chance to go back. When I relocated back up North for work a couple years ago, I took my grandmother out to eat here a couple times. It was disheartening because both times I went, I came away unimpressed, as the food and overall experience was not at all how I remembered it. BUT... after last night's meal, this place has won my heart over once again. I don't know if there were changes made in kitchen or if I just caught them on a bad couple nights last year, but the food last night was superb and the service could not have been better. We arrived at 9pm and the waitress was friendly, attentive and did not rush us in any way, shape, or form. The Crab Meltaways are a house favorite/speciality and they were fresh and cooked to perfection, much like the Cheddarburger I had as my entree. Medium-rare, just as I ordered--juicy and delicious. The Boston lager I had with dinner was fresh, clean and cold. Two people from our party ordered the Salmon Imperial, something I wouldn't necessarily venture to order at Buzzy's. Again, fresh, cooked to perfection and damn tasty. Everyone loved their meal and I came away happy, knowing my faith and good memories of a nostalgic childhood favorite had been restored. Absolutely awful! Way over priced for frozen seafood! The cheese they use is so cheap it doesn't even melt! Ordered some potato skins, covered in congealed cheese and nothing else. Got their special crab cheese bread appetizer, same thing bad cheese and no crab. Ordered blackened catfish that was BURNT and DISGUSTING. The asparagus was burnt as well and as a replacement mashed potatoes was brought out 10 minutes later. $130 down the drain! read more

my friend and i came in on a thursday for happy hour and had a great time! the bartender jordan was a sweetheart, an absolute delight. it was pretty quiet for a thurs, we stayed from 6pm until about 10:30 and there were only a few other parties there. we were also the only ones under 40, aside from the bartender so i think more young people should check this place out! good happy hour deals, classic american bar fare, and a nice ambience. bring your friends, get it poppin! read more

I go here when I come to NJ from NYC to visit my father (he loves the place). Commenting on French Onion Soup and Cheeseburgers plus dessert, as that's what my son and I order. I also taste my dad's orders. This place, which looks like a big nothing, has surprisingly good food. The waitress knows our order, even though I come once every month or two. Great soup, great burger, great fries. The Toll House pie with ice cream is wonderful. I've tried bits of their penne with mushrooms and shrimp, and their London Broil, and both were very good. Should probably explore the menu more, but regardless, this spot is much better than it looks from the outside (can't speak of the bar as I just eat there). The last 5x we have gone there has been horrible from food, service and prices are rediculous. The place should close the restaurant as its only good for expensive beer. My husband and I have been to Buzzy's 5 - 6 times. We have only ever eaten at the big round bar. The dining room looks dated and dispiriting and I would not be very happy there. Eating at the bar at Buzzy's is a unique joy for burger fans. We have eaten other things here; the shrimp artichoke appetizer is excellent and big enough to be a meal if paired with the dinner salad with egg and shrimp, but the burger is our go-to. Buzzy's is the only bar I have been to where the bartenders are in charge of not only drink pours but also burger cooking. Amazingly, we have had 4 different bartenders cook our rare burgers, and we got exactly what we ordered every time. Even in places where a line cook's only job is burger flipping, we only end up with rare about 50% of the time. There are always a few good local craft beers on draft, prices are excellent, atmosphere is neighborhood congenial and decor slightly divey, staff is generally friendly and attentive. What a divine place! Amanda, our bartender/server/cook was utterly kind, professional, attentive and funny. I ordered a cheeseburger and my boyfriend got two hot dogs for $1 each! All delicious. Loved their skinny fries. Amanda was very professional and not once did she look at her phone, very focused on her patrons. Very appreciated. The patrons were all so down to earth and fun.
