Recommended by a colleague who lives in Manly and great experience with the host welcoming us with wine tasting flight to start. We selected a very earthy Shiraz after some NZ bubbles. Atmosphere Is open air with the entire front of the restaurant open to the sounds of a four to six foot south swell hitting the beach right out front. The manager was so accommodating of our mixed group of Americans and Australians and selected a tasting menu brought out family style. We loved the head on rainbow trout, salad, and beef selection. Any place you can go and have the manager select your food and wine, have a great dining experience and reasonable bill for five about $260 AU for five, is a great place. Loved it! read more

There is something truly special about Manly Wine. At the end of a row of restaurants with amazing views but subpar menus and décor, Manly Wine stands out for its originality. Walk in the door and you'll find yourself in a beachfront garden paradise where greenery abounds, enormous flowers bloom from the walls, and pink flamingos play. Pull up one of their mismatched antique chairs at a tile garden table and I suspect you'll want to stay awhile. I went on a Sunday around lunchtime and ordered the jug of rose sangria, which was on special for $15 (normally $20). I found it refreshing, if not a bit too sweet. They had a roast on special, but I ordered the chicken salad instead. With juicy slices of meat, orange, beetroot, green beans, goat cheese and pecans, it was the perfect summery dish. My date ordered the lamb burger and I stole chips off his plate every time his head was turned.... MMmmm delicious. In the wine department, they have a lovely menu (in the same vain as their Surry Hills affiliate, the Winery). Categories include "Slurpable Reds" and "Unpronounceable Whites." I went with a glass of the The Pawn pinot grigio, which was very light and drinkable. If you're not sure what to go with, talk to the friendly staff for recommendations and I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction. Located at the south end of Manly beach, this eclectic wine bar is a lovely spot for brunch or lunch to enjoy the view or for a glass of one of their many wines on tap. I really liked that they have a set of wines that are "on tap" with descriptions of the flavors of each wine and pricing written in chalk below each one to help you decide. The decor is a very eclectic mix from animal prints to magazine collages, but done in a way that really works. The lamb burger is quite tasty and the prawn salad looked amazing. There were several good options on the menu along with specials through the week. Word on the street is that it's a popular place for hen's nights on the weekends. read more

Manly Wine is lovely - it's almost as cool as it's Surry Hills cousin, The Winery. They are quite similar but of course Manly Wine is stuck in Manly. So depending on where you live this is either awesome, or not awesome at all. Great decor and a beautiful open window at the front of the restaurant facing the beach (across the street). Such a nice place to take someone visiting from out of town, or make a reservation for a night out with friends. read more

This is one of my favorite place in Manly. If you want to avoid the crowd in the main street, this is the perfect place. Well located in front of the beach, you can eat or drink nice meals. Originally from the Big Smoke, but now living in the Wild West, I can't help but be impressed by a seaside venue with shaded seating, a great view, an easy terrace ordering system and relatively inexpensive pricing for fabulous food. Manly Wine did it for me the other morning. On a sisterly reunion, accompanied by two tired dogs, we plopped ourselves on the terrace and ordered from the breakfast menu. One sister had eggs on toast ++ (meaning, what I know as pricey extras), another had the ham and gruyere toastie with a delicious home-made relish and lots of green stuff and the third ordered the muesli with thick tangy yoghurt and shiny tasty preserved figs. Add three coffees and an endless supply of chilled bottled water, all for a mere $50 or so, all up. I was impressed! Not a bad place to prop for a pit stop. read more

We booked ahead (booking service is very complex yet efficient) and were seated in a nice spot for a table of four. Love the decor and furniture, it's very trendy and different to other Manly establishments. The fairy lights, cushions, flamingo decorations and beachy vibe make for a great location for a date or cosy dinner. The veal sausage rolls as entree were probably the highlight of my night! Could have eaten the whole plate myself! Great texture, well cooked and nice and hot. The steak sandwich was ok although not very hot. My mum also ordered the steak sandwich and her bread wasn't toasted, although mine was. I found that a bit strange. The fries were great, as were the drinks/waiter service. As per a lot of seaside establishments, the menu is very seafood heavy. Which makes ordering a bit frustrating if you don't like or can't eat seafood. Could possibly extend the menu with a bit more variety, or some more entrees. The dessert menu was also impressive, making it hard to decide between options. We had the coffee & biscuit trifle with pear ice cream. To be honest I mainly tasted coffee, hardly any biscuit or pear. But it was pretty good, quite rich. I would like to try the brownies next time. I'd recommend for any occasion, just book ahead! And make sure nobody is allergic to seafood. read more

Excellent place for a bite and wind down after a week of intense work. What really stands out is the vibrant crowd, decor and the vibe that is a result of the prior. To be honest I can't pin point how good the food was because I enjoyed myself so much since it feels so casual yet sort of sophisticated. The staff were a pleasure which is a refreshing change given lately I've come across backpackers that are unsure of the menu they're trying to sell. Tucked away in the corner of Manly, it's the place to go for an extensive wine list and the appropriate food to match. But this isn't your typical suit wearing locales. It's hard to pinpoint the exact crowd it's tailored to since such a wide variety can be spotted in one night. I'll definitely be returning for the experience, along with a proper food update. Pretty decent food for being right on the beach and sort of touristy. Love the atmosphere with the beautiful beach view! The waitstaff is friendly! The crowd was a tad older and quieter than I would've expected the place to host but still cool. It's not like an American wine bar at all where wine is the main focus and food is a side. Much to my chagrin, I was invited to a friends bday over the bridge and far away! Well, that's how I saw it anyway until I ventured on over to the other side. A bus and a ferry later (see review on Manly Ferry) and there we were docked in Manly and only a short walk to the beach and to our destination, Manly Wine. This is the sister restaurant of the Gazebo Wine Garden in the Cross and The Winery in Surrey Hills, which just about has to be one of my favourite hot spots to frequent so my expectations were high. There is no denying the location is heaven, looking right out to the spectacular ocean and the huge, open bay windows make good use of that view. You feel like you are at THE spot in Manly and perhaps you are because there are many a furtive glance going on. There seems to be different pockets to this sometimes gaudily decorated place and you can never get bored as there is always something to look at on the roof or walls. My favourite is the scantily clad 1950s bikini models. One wall is totally covered in wine, for those less of the voyer. We had a table of 30 so ours was a 'mini menu', meaning it was already set for us, although we did have a choice of four mains. I chose the snapper nicoise and my friend, the slow roasted sirloin. Most of our friends followed suit and there were very differing reports. Some dry, some exquisite, and that goes for both the fish and beef dishes. I really wanted to love this place and I suppose that if I had gone with just my lover, perhaps the service and the meals would have been more consistent and of a higher calibre. The staff were attentive enough and the drinks always special, it's just the food that was the let down. Shame really! read more

Fun, quirky and always packed with PYTs on a weekend, Manly WIne is fabulous bar with stellar views, fun decor with huge cushions, awesome Pimms cocktails, and a great selection of wine.. Oh and pretty good food too.. They have house wine on the tap and at $7 a glass its a sweet deal... Book in advance if you want a table at the resturant as they run pretty full and you might have to wait a while, but it would be worth it in the end.. Take my word or it.. The salt and pepper calamari and seared scallops were fresh and beautifully prepared... I couldnt stop wanting more of it.. The place has a great upbeat feel to it and gauranteed to lift your spirits up. read more

We had no reservation but we were accommodated in a friendly manner, food and drinks delivered promptly and refills taken care of quickly and without seeking out the waiter. Not bad! The nice atmosphere with an open-air concept makes it a pleasant place to stop for a drink. The staff is friendly and very attentive. There is a street between the restaurant and the beach, so you do lose some of the beach atmosphere with some traffic noise. Their food is decent, though nothing really worth writing about. One of my go to spots in manly. Love love love this place! From the fun and funky decor and large porch that overlooks the pine tree lined beachfront. I always stop in for a glass of wine and the free wifi since I am a foreigner. The service is always great and the place is nice and quiet earlier in the afternoon which is when I popped in. My friend from Sydney recommended this place to me on my first visit and it is the place I tell everyone to go to if they even mention the fact they are traveling to Australia. I will be back and hope it sticks around in the years to come. read more

I haven't been here for about a year but I'm not sure what happened between then and now but unfortunately it's not for the better. What used to be quite a cool, funky bar/restaurant with interesting food and imaginative drink is now pretty much just bog-standard "Modern Australian" cafe-cum-restaurant. It's not so much as the food does not sounds interesting, it's just that it fails to deliver on the expectations from the menu. We arrived for an early dinner and were seated quickly but it took too long for the drinks order and we had ask to order our food. It was one of those strange situations where there are an abundance of staff, all buzzing around busily but not that many diners which makes it difficult to understand why you're not being served. I must say though that the were all lovely when we were being attended to. We shared the duck liver parfait which was probably the best dish, generous and with nice, basic pickled vegies, salt and pepper squid which is fairly standard these days as well as the raw salmon with ponzu which was tasty I guess but nothing special. The mains were disappointing. The "Black Angus" sirloin was strangely thin, overcooked in parts and then rare in others. I guess on average it was the "medium-rare" we asked for if only that's what that meant! The pork cutlet was nice enough and cooked well but it wasn't really anything that you couldn't cook at home on a Tuesday night. It feels like all restaurants along the Manly beachfront eventually descend into mediocrity. They mostly start out pretty good but whether it's due to high rent, an over reliance on the location or new management who don't share the same ability as the original owners, they eventually just end up kind of "meh". It's not that Manly Wine is bad as such, it's just that it's not as good as I had hoped and there is much better close by. Unless you're in Manly for the view, head into the back streets where there much, much better food is served these days. read more

Set at the south end of Manly Beach this beautiful bar is much more than a humble wine bar. It has a Gazebo like vibe about it with a sort of enchanted garden vibe (same owners). Vines creep up the walls, fairy lights and melted candles cover every inch of available space. The atmosphere is equally as chaotic with a loud rowdy crowd packed inside, spilling out of the huge windows, onto the street. What's cool about this place is that it embraces beach culture so thongs and singlets are welcome. Be prepared for a big crowd on a Saturday night - stick close to your friends or you're in danger of loosing them. If it were me, I'd avoid the Saturday night crowd and head down on a Sunday at about 4PM for Sangria jugs and live music. read more

Great little spot along the water's edge (well across the road from the beach to be exact), went here the other night with the intentions of setting up a girlfriend with my husbands mate, started off with a pitcher of pink grapefruit margarita, my girlfriend and i downed that quite fast, it was watery lacked tang-nothing to write home about, we figured it was subpar cause it was a pitcher so she went in for another two rounds of just regular by the glass margarita's the first again was ok but the second she had was fabulous, we originally decided to go to Manly wine because my friend had a giggly rose cocktail a while back which she loathed but knew i would love because it was sweet and literally tasted like you were drinking roses, knowing the rose aficionado that i am suggested this venue to try it and after the watery pitcher of pink grapefruit margarita this was my drink of choice and it was everything she promised and more! sweet, floral and served with a red rose stuffed inside the glass and also a second rose poking out, i wish it had just the one rose in it because then i would have had more of that sweet elixir to enjoy! next up we ordered something to chow down, my girlfriend is a vego and so we decided just to get the ricotta and cherry tomato on sourdough, sweet potato fries with aioli and a serve of regular chips and ketchup our dining partners ordered the cheese burger and the fish of the day, everyone said they enjoyed their meals, i say order those dam sweet potato fries!! so good! sweet and crunchy with that aioli sauce just mellowing out the sweetness, the ricotta on sourdough was great too, really creamy and luscious it must have had lemon zest in it because there was a definite pronounced lemon note - not a tang just a fresh burst of lemon, very fresh-different and made me want to add lemon zest to my next homemade ricotta dish. Nice place overall to be with friends and i will be back for more giggly rose cocktail's! read more
