Whoah I eat out breakfast a LOT. When I say a LOT I mean every weekend twice. It is by far my favourite meal of the week and I relish a unique place to have breakfast. Belgrave Cartel gave me the best breakfast of the last 12 months :) I first came to Belgrave Cartel after dinner for a few cheeky cocktails. Let me tell you the cocktails were amazing. The apple pie cocktail was a revelation. BUT this post is about Breakfast. I had the Mafia eggs and asked for a change to add bacon. No issues for this crew they actually integrated the bacon straight into the dish. Love that they are happy to roll with the punches and make some small changes (this is getting a little silly around town at the moment with some places not allowing changes...the Hilton even charges $2.50 to remove pickles from your burger!). The menu is the best offering I have seen around and you will definitely find something yummy to eat. Coffee is great. The service is exceptional. Go check out Belgrave Cartel = Northern Beaches meets Surry Hills.

BREAKFAST LIKE A BADASS, with really twee tea cups, cutlery and lots of lovely potted plants, twinkly lights and twee little doodahs.. You'd be confused about the badass bit until you see the food, I was egg-static how over, sourdough and sauted mushrooms with feta and poached eggs for two of our munchy crew and some amazing looking pesto with spinach and eggs for one, whilst I went for the Ship mates breakfast aka the whole shebang! Grilled salmon, eggs, avocado, spinach, asparagus, feta, tomato and toast.. mine rocked up with sourdough toast which wasnt listed on the dish, I asked if they'd mind swapping it out for gluten free which wasn't a problem (so.my picture is missing the toast FYI) but we couldn't wait to tuck in. This was a perfect spot for breakfast before a long, frankly exhausting morning spent dipping in and out of the water at Manly beach.. fish watching takes it out of you. The citrus green tea here was delish, the coffee's looked up to scratch and the service was top notch with a rather quirky character I almost wanted to take home with me. Looooved it.

Interesting place, good food! I liked the small outdoor seating area up the back. Had a tasty brekie and good service, food came out quick! I'd like to return to try some of their other menu offerings.

Cartel is better to wear a stack hat

Great spot -- best coffees in Manly -- great service -- favourite breakfast spot. Nice little courtyard area in the back, a more private back room and a couple of streetside tables as well. Popular for dinner but haven't tried it yet

It's…read moredefinitely cheaper than dining-in in the hotel restaurant, yet you get the same quality of food as it shares the same kitchen. We watched the cooks prep for our food and it was handed to us fresh off the stove. Food wise, the portion size is simply enormous and we couldn't finish the takeout box despite lots of walking during the day. But that doesn't sacrifice the quality. The salt and pepper squid was on point, yet not overpowering. The deep fried prawns was simply perfect. You can taste the freshness of the prawn just underneath the deep fried batter. Fish was cooked beautifully and didn't fall apart easily when you slice through it. It's already 5 star experience and I would have given a bonus point to the restaurant for having biodegradable wooden takeout cuttery.

I will preface that my eating companions really enjoyed their burgers!…read more The Ivanhoe lives as a happy resident on the corso between the wharf and the beach. Visited by Long time friends and new acquaintances. Ivan loves it's Wednesday burger days at 12.50 for a meal. Our trio choose the second floor because the first floor is quite dark but the outside deck is stunningly sunny with wall greenery, flat screen TVs, heaps room, and funky wicker decor. Our burgers arrive swiftly- having come from, I understand the cleanest kitchen in the business. Chips are salty and crunchy and meat has been cooked to preference. My 'beef' with this burger is the size of bun to patty and the taste of the meat. Bun is too big and each time I bite-sauce and bits fall out. And the meat has a game-y flavour. Is it weird to say "animaly"? Not the best burger I've had but the kitchen does offer a huge array of options and I'd eat here again

The menu overseen by Chef Shaun Presland and Head Chef Shoji Toru offers a superb section of nigiri, sashimi and sushi rolls, all made to order from the freshest of local seafood. Saké Manly's drinks list showcases the finest of Japanese spirits, whiskies and over 30 bins of sake as well as umeshu, shochu and flavoured sake. Four seasonally changing spritz feature on the menu, all designed to match the light, floral notes of Japanese cuisine. (Stolen from the website...very useful information) The views are nice, not spectacular though...while it is a waterfront restaurant, if you don't get a good seat with a view you will be stuck watching all the folks on the wharf. We were a walk in and scored a table in the middle. I think you need to make reservations for a table with a view or for a big party...or maybe just get there really early. This place is lit! Great ambiance, modern decor and plenty of space. Be aware of the prices on the menu though...is is after all a Waterfront restaurant...so value will be an afterthought. ~ spicy brussel sprouts - 4.5/5 One of the suggested appetizers that our enthusiastic server convinced us to get... Basically a perfect appetizer! Delicious, charred, good flavor. ~ glacier51toothfish saikyo yaki - 4.5/5 I feel a bit duped on this one... Patagonian toothfish! It's amazing! "From Australian waters" ummm...in the states we call it Chilean Seabass! It is an excellent fish, buttery, flaky, light...delicious. Problem is our waitress advertised it as something that can only be found in Australian waters...um...NO. Sooo...I was under the impression I was enthusiastically wolfing down some exotic local Aussie catch! ~ sashimi moriawase - 4.5/5 Brilliant! Just Amazing!! Just not for 2 people...I could scarf this down myself. Amazing presentation...edible art, small pieces of fish, but very fresh. ~ From Japan with love - 3/5 A Gin bowl...whatever that is suppose to be. Nice refreshing drink, nothing stands out about it. IMHO the description sounds better than the drink tastes. All the food here is very very good. You are paying a premium for waterfront dining, so I had to ding about 1/2 star off. Definitely no value here; while every thing was Brilliant, nothing was outstanding. Good place to take a date, but be prepared to drop $$$

It's actually a nicer looking restaurant for the Manly area, very clean and contemporary. The service was very good (which is unusual for Aus), I think they're catering to the tourists that visit. We tried the tempura, it was lightly breaded which was nice but it had little flavor. The spider roll with the soft shell crab was nice, very light! The nigiri eel was the best!! And we ordered a dragon roll for dessert which was a very cool experience and tasted delicious too! This place does get busy during the holiday season so book a table. And while Manly is a casual place, people tended to dress up just a little nicer here but you still had a few locals in beach attire but not many.

Their menu is considered modern Australian with an Italian flair, which is an interesting fusion of cuisines. They have tapas, entrees (appetizer size), mains (larger portions) and sides, which can be shared amongst the table or paired with a main to make for a more filling meal. + GRILLED TASMANIAN OCTOPUS (A$28): The four of us shared this and it turned out to be a tantalizing appetizer! Three meaty tentacles and one flat piece were served on top of n'duja (spreadable pork sausage) with pipes of lime confit on the side. This was my first time having n'duja, which had a smoky flavor from Calabrian chilis that paired well with the grilled taste of the tender octopus. The lime brightened up the dish with citrusy notes. + SEAWEED PRAWN PILLOWS (A$22): While tasty, if I tasted these blindly, I probably wouldn't think of shrimp and seaweed being the two main ingredients. The shrimp and seaweed were finely minced and made into a batter which was then fried into a fritter. They were crispy and light with a soft mochi-like texture inside. Salt on the plate enhanced the flavor even more. + SNAPPER FILLET (A$44): The snapper was delicate, moist and had a wonderfully seared skin. It came topped with a few zucchini blossoms, but that was the extent of the dish, so I'd recommend ordering a side with this. It was placed on a pool of creamy white sauce (which may have incorporated Jerusalem artichoke as noted on the menu) and dollops of black garlic sauce came on top. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the black garlic which had a very earthy flavor that I found too strong and off-putting for the mild fish. The four of us shared a side of BROCCOLINI (A$14) which was a great pairing with all of our mains. It tasted super fresh since the stems still had a nice snap to them. They were simply tossed with extra virgin olive oil, sliced almonds and chili for a hint of heat. My dad enjoyed their spatchcocked chicken and my sister was happy with her sirloin steak. The steak was cooked more than the medium that she requested, but it was still delicious and had a zesty salsa verde. Overall, we had a lovely lunch here. Our meals were wholesome and I could tell that everything was fresh and of pristine quality. It's not fancy or Michelin starred or world renowned, but somehow it manages to find the perfect balance between beach casual and chic, while serving amazing food. We stumbled upon it and popped in for lunch after swearing we weren't hungry for a big lunch. Famous last words, right? We started with the caramel Ed garlic bread and piccolo burrata, both of which were amazing. I wanted to lick the plate but my husband gave me the side eye. Someone at the table next to us had the Prawn Salad, and it looked incredible, so we ordered that to split. The prawn salad is the best salad I have ever eaten, and I eat a lot of salads. There were so many flavors and textures and mouthfeels - the creamy avocado, the crispy salty bacon, the sweet tender shrimp, the light oily vinaigrette, the warm salty halloumi. This is salad GOALS. It was so good that we just went ahead and ordered another entree - the grilled barramundi. It was also delicious, the fish was perfectly cooked, the asparagus was tender but firm, the potatoes were crispy but creamy, and the tang of the goat cheese and sweet roasted tomatoes really made something magic. It was temping to get dessert, but we did stop to check out the breakfast menu on our way out. Also - as a pregnant person, I was so thrilled to see a decent list of mocktails! The Passionfruit Fauxjito was really good and tasted like a true cocktail. This perfect little beach restaurant is so unassuming from the outside, but is worth the stop for the gorgeous views, attentive service, and amazing food!
